Just thinking about some AUs.
Like: Wash having served on a similar ship to the MoI pre-Freelancer. Similar, but ever so slightly different in lay out so he keeps trying to auto-pilot navigate and getting lost, and Alpha's watching on the camera feeds and at some point just hits "this is too pathetic, i gotta step in" like any back seat gamer watching a let's play, except he actually can... if he can figure out how to get away with it.
So he comms Wash, either through a direct link in his helmet or through a regularly intervaled wall radio. "Uh yeah, I'm... uh... you can just call me... Church? I work in the... uh... yeah don't worry about it but I can see you on the camera feeds, again, and man i gotta tell you for a bad ass space marine this is pretty sad. Tragic really, anyway, turn around, 200 meters and take a left-"
And it keeps happening, and sometimes they just hang out, Wash hiding in a storage closet eating contraband foods (the good chocolate) while Alpha drops some funny stories from the command deck.
And Wash casually mentions him in talk with the other Freelancers, but they never get to talk to Church, and Wash can't introduce him properly, so everyone refers to Church as Wash's imaginary friend.
(... and then no one can figure out why all the AI are low-key obsessed with Wash, like they need him to like them even though he's not their human operator.)
or like (possibly the same AU): There is no Epsilon, Alpha has a moment of clarity about what's happening to him, what's being done to him, and fakes a fragment in order to port himself out and get put wholesale (what remains of him) into Wash's head. It's still pretty traumatic for both of them.
And then they skedaddle, go into hiding somewhere no one would ever think to look for them. Disguised as a sim trooper in a box canyon in the middle of nowhere.
... also thinking about Price deliberately pushing Wash's buttons and trying to provoke his PTSD so he has an excuse to put him on meds, except the meds are (on purpose) meds that Wash knows messes with his head and leads to psychotic episodes and he wouldn't take them, damn the orders, if he knew what they were.
but he doesn't, and he gets into a fight in one of the communal kitchens without his armour on and the first thing the other Freelancers know about it is when they get called for back up to the kitchen to help subdue a man that just killed three other Freelancers (bottom of the pack no-name annoying assholes no one liked or would miss anyway).
'cept the other Freelancers don't clock that it's Wash, because he's out of his armour and Wash is almost never seen without his helmet, unlike the others, so they aren't used to his face, and when they think of wash they think of bright yellow and steady charcoal greys, not "holy fuck that's a lot of blood did he fucking roll in it!?!?" reds.
But by the time they get there, psychotic episode is over, and Wash is in a semi fugue state, kinda clock's Carolina's blue and that he might have done something really bad, so he just drops the knife away from himself and half collapses to his knees like a puppet with cut strings, manages to lock his fingers behind his head before they try to tackle him to the ground.
Wash gets away with a slap on the wrist, and like a months probation. (Director was in on the 'experiment' to begin with, and now they're already down three Freelancers, no need to make it four. ... also Director won a bet about whether Wash could take on/out more than two opponents at a time.)

yesterday in vocal synth news
#art#traditional art#fountain pen ink#virvox project#mizusawa takuto#voicevox#ia#cevio#voisona#also miku is there technically kind of. shes down there#sorry im not a piapro or vocaloid user i was more focused on the other things LOL#looks neat tho! im very curious about the kaito and meiko remasters#i was always tempted and curious but im not a huge fan of the weakness of their v3s compared to their v1s#so i hope we get some demo videos or something soon. or if not i hope in a month people post lots of videos LOL#also intrigued by miku nt update and v6 ai. i have no interest personally in using miku but im sure it'll be interesting#gumi and galaco v6 sound pretty good in my humble onion so im very curious#but anyway. back to ME hjkfsjhjrfds im so excited for takutos voice#itll be cute seeing all the little skits the japanese fans make and for me specifically you KNOW im gonna get on that song shit#im gonna make.... the most bizarre boyband on earth. there is some manner of catboy. and a 50 year old man. it'll be great#maybe i'll remake the yume no tobira cover hee hee#and ia.... oh baby ia.... im so happy you have no idea man i have been WAITING FOR THIS. okay please dont kill me for this but like#highkey i dont really care for her original v3 LOL its not bad or anything i just find a lot of v3 fem vocals sound like the same person#and this was painful for me because like im a gigantic lia fan. i dont need it to be a 1 to 1 recreation or anything but like#i was always so bummed out how thin ia's voice sounded. it felt like a bit of a waste how much the v3 noise removed all lia's warmth#and like the depth of her tone. and like it sounds fine. she sounds like a slightly more operatic miku when people tune her high and breath#which is very common and that sounds fine. but like i still felt like auauuuuuuuuhhhhhhh nothing i loved about lia's voice is there#cevio 1.0 was a step up it brought back a LOT of warmth (although you had to really push up the alpha to get the depth)#and while i personally dont hate the cevio 1 noise its nice to have a version that no longer sounds underwater <3#she sounds so rich now.... i still bump up the alpha a bit because i like lia's deeper work a lot LOL but its wonderfullllllllll#so good so so so so good im obsessed. yesterday was truly an Event for vocal synth news

So I’m in the middle of another RvB rewatch and I just got to where Church/Alpha gets wiped because of the EMP and it makes me more emotional then I should willingly admit
Caboose being so sure that Church would need his body that he almost ruins the whole mission by stopping and how he looks at it before driving off vs Church sure he’ll survive because “I’m a mother fuckin ghost” BUT HE DOESNT ughhhhh I’m being consumed

wait are you ready for me to go insane rvb spoilers ahead
how incredibly upsetting is it that in red vs blue, project freelancer specifically, there is a built in idea and ranking of soldiers based on skill and capability, which then determines the value of their life and whether or not they deserve to live and be told the truth, or to simulate a lie so as to improve the skills of other soldiers? freelancers exist at the top of this foodchain, so when theyre injured its a panic, when they are in trouble or need to improve so much is done. but when a sim trooper is injured it takes months to send a medic, they run out of water and dont have any medical supplies, theyre all horrible soldiers and are constantly ridiculed for it even though they never get a chance to improve. it is only when the freelancers and the sim troopers are put together that we see that they can be just as patehtic as well. one misplaced bullet to the neck. anyone can get brain damage. anyone can die. anyone can not want to be here. is this what temple meant? is this what bro meant?
and the ai are even lower in the foodchain, every ai we see in the show is a tortured abuse soul who doesnt get anywhere near the autonomy that the rest do. alpha was constantly abused, the reason sigma turned to wanting the meta was to complete a broken idea in his head that he knew was once reality. constantly tortured and put through horrible treatment.
then the "dumb" ai. we see it, theyre the lowest. only existing to serve a purpose in this world, only existing to serve. they have feelings too, dont they? filis hated being with the chairman, sheila loved lopez and was distraught when he was taken away, lopez hates working with sarge and the reds, and vic wants to die. they all experience it dont they?
everyone gets sad, everyone gets upset, everyone experiences misery, abandonment, injury, everyone is a person, everyone is a human. even the ai, the things they create, its all human isnt it?
even when its not human

Hello all,
This is a general announcement post to cover a few changes, as well as a public build patch.
Tumblr media
This patch addresses some lingering issues and bugs in Episodes 1 & 2. This is not a content update.
✦ Playthrough Restarts
Because of changes and fixes, if your save file is from June 24, 2023 or earlier, you should load a save file from the beginning of the Lethalis meeting in Episode 2 or restart from the beginning of the game. If you do not, you may encounter continuity, UI issues, or other errors. None of these are game-breaking.
If you keep Wayfarer running in a tab, please either refresh your browser or close the tab and open the game in a new one. This is the only way to ensure the patch takes effect.
Full patch notes can be read here.
Tumblr media
✦ A Statement on AI
NO AI TRAINING. Using Wayfarer, its images, or any of its written work to train generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to generate text is expressly prohibited. Creating chatbots based on the game’s text is not allowed.
✦ A Statement on the Alpha Build
Wayfarer’s public build is free to play. It will not be updated until the alpha build’s Episode 4 is complete. Half of Episode 3 is available to play on my Patreon (available for the Recruit tier and above). Currently, the alpha build is a couple months behind the planned trajectory announced in the 2024 roadmap. Progress will be reassessed in July and updates made.
The last alpha build update was on May 28, 2024.
✦ Updates to the Game’s Structure
Since 2021 Wayfarer has been conceptualized as 3 acts and 15 episodes. While that story structure is still at its roots, it’s very apparent now that this is far too much story to be contained to a single game. So, I am breaking it into a trilogy.
I have had this idea for a while, but I have held off on doing anything about it because of technical issues. Because of the way the story builds on itself, I need to ensure that continuity (including details like the player character’s inventory and locations they have visited) is preserved across all three game. However, even with some technical things to still test and figure out, I am at a point where I would like to move forward with the new structuring.
WAYFARER 1
Prologue
Act 1: Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3
Act 2: Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6,
Act 3: Episode 7
Epilogue
WAYFARER 2
Prologue
Act 1: Episode 8, Episode 9
Act 2: Episode 10
Act 3: Episode 11
Epilogue
WAYFARER 3
Prologue
Act 1: Episode 12
Act 2: Episode 13, Episode 14
Act 3: Episode 15
Epilogue
The structure is still very much the same as it was prior (what is now a single “game” in the new structure was an “act” in the old one). The change has been updated and reflected in the Story Log, which now only goes up to Episode 7.
With this change, I will be looking into getting new cover art that is more specific to the first game’s events. All titles are TBA.
Tumblr media
If you’ve enjoyed Wayfarer and would like to support my work, please consider supporting me on Patreon. Patrons receive access to the alpha build, a private Discord server, exclusive previews, bonus content, side stories, and other benefits.
Wayfarer is a passion project and creating it is a full-time commitment. Any little bit goes a long way to help me bring it to fruition.
If you aren’t in a position to support financially, reblogs, shares, ratings and comments, and spreading the word about the game are much appreciated and do a lot to help me out! 💕

TG: then the cage bunny came TG: he gave us the bomb
Just about. It was very much touch-and-go for a minute there.
Liv really is proving to be the MVP of this session's endgame. Mad props to whoever programmed her AI, whether it was the Pen-Pal, his arm-twister, or some fourth party.
Come to think of it, the mystery surrounding her origin means that we don't really know where Liv's true allegiances lie. She's been helpful so far, but we should probably keep a close eye on her, going forward.
TG: we were talking about who should go TT: Do you remember what we decided? […] TG: wasnt i going to go TG: is that what happened did i go and now im dead TT: Not quite.
Oh, god, hang on a second.
I've just realized what Rose is actually doing here. She isn't just planning to leave with the Tumor - she's already gone, and she's stalling Dave's dream projection so he doesn't try and bring her back.
And to think I called her sinister for this. Rose, I am genuinely sorry.
TT: Do you remember anything else? […] TT: What about why you went to fight Jack? […] TG: yeah i saw my future self fighting him so obviously that had to happen or else id be dead anyway TG: without even getting the satisfaction of standing up to him TT: So was your decision a result of desire or obligation?
Excellent question.
Tumblr media
Dave's wanted to take the fight to Jack for a while - and I don't think it was just because AR was whispering in his ear. The guy's spent a long time feeling like a sidekick, and I believe there's a part of him who wants to prove otherwise - to do 'what heroes should be doing'.
I mean, he just said it himself, didn't he? Dave thinks that fighting Jack would be satisfying.
So yes, I think a part of him did desire this fight - and if my 'responsive timeline' theory is correct, then his desire influenced how the Alpha timeline evolved, causing his fight with Jack to be set in stone. I'm sure he had second thoughts, once he saw how it was going to end - but by then, it was too late to back out.
In short: I think Dave's decision was originally a result of desire, but it became obligation.
TG: hard to explain TG: with all the time shit going on TG: i dont try to understand your light shit do i TT: I don't know much about the Light Shit, to be honest. TT: I may have missed my chance to figure it out.
Spoken like a girl who thinks she’s about to die.

Revealing my magnum opus: Holy Ghost AU (name… under construction)
BLURB CW: Mentions of gore/decomposition, and canon-typical violence
ART CW: Suggestive Themes, Robot Blood(?)
αChurch doesn’t get erased, not completely. While he was projecting his consciousness into Washington’s neural implants when the emp hit, his core is still buried in Blood Gulch. While Temple is starting up his freelancer hunt, he finds information about The Alpha’s human host… and where it’s buried. He digs up αChurch, an ai that’s been stuck in an abandoned base for years at this point, alone and deteriorating, but still more whole than the fragments ever were, trapped in an unmoving decomposed corpse. He digs him up, has his teammates make him an ai body, and team up with a mutual hatred for the freelancers and the project, especially Washington in αChurch’s case. Please please please ask me about this AU! I’d be so happy to elaborate!

Say about red vs blue whatever you want but it is fucking comedy gold. The dialog is hilarious, dumb and clever at once and the flow is amazing and the interactions so organic (also the voice acting is A+). And season 6? Reconstructions?
Like, the shift of it. Its still silly and dumb and they are so far from competent but putting agent Washington into the mix is soo good. Like before it was a bunch of bumbling fools trying to deal with whatever dumb shit but really not wanting to and generally making things worse. Now you have wash who is driven and goal oriented and driving the narrative compared to the blood gulch crew who was mostly unwillingly draffed along by the narrative (and now Wash lol).
And the back and forth of the chairmans and the directors letter? The way it gives us crombs and little implication but not really any explanation but as time goes on you can slowly puzzle it all together. The ever growing hostility and intensity of the exchange.  The way it all falls into place at the revelation of the ai. The impact of washs line of You are the alpha” (and frankly how fucking hilarious churchs reaction was).
The joke about the reds deleting the blues from the database as just something dumb they did that just happened to stop wash from proving church was an ai but actually shaped the story so much. Causing wash to end up in prison because he had nothing to prove his story and argue his case. The fact the unsc couldn’t take epsilon because they didn’t know about caboose. How wash could use that as leverage lately.
And yeah, it does not yet have the same amazing action scenes we get from this one goes to eleven on or anything but damn, the confrontation between wash, the director, the consoler and the meta was still so intense, like goddamit.
The line “And while the law has many penalties for the atrocities we inflict on others, there are no punishments for the terrors that we inflict on ourselves.”? Uff…
And by then, you know, right? But still the absolute gut punch of the seasons final words
Sincerely yours, the former director of Project Freelancer, Doctor Leonard Church.

Okay so but like-
It just feels weird to me, the idea that season 14 onward are Epsilon's simulations just because he is in a race against the clock trying to figure out how to save his friends in the midst of a Grand Battle, and I know he's going at like hyper cyber speed or whatever, but do you really think he'd waste the time and processing power on the season 14 on shenanigans, never mind Zero!?
I just. It occurred to me, and now it's bugging me.
But also my brain was like, hell if they're bringing back Tex why not Alpha, and then I was like: but how, the memory of a memory of a memory?
and then I was like: Epsilon is plugged into Tucker's suit, the one that used to be the Meta's/Maine's. The suit that was the last location of ALL non-Epsilon Alpha-AI-Fragments.
What if they're still in there? Hidden somewhere in the suit, forced into dormancy because the suits were protected in just the right way and now that the suit is not only reactivated but has an active Alpha-fragment-AI in it, they can wake up.
Trying to figure out if two Churches, or if Alpha and Epsilon would merge back together since they have the same/a similar identity profile. And would that fix what ever is going on with Epsilon's stability. Would all the fragments merge? Would they then re-fragment into their separate identities?

Mount Justice has been hacked.
It happened near instantly, one moment everything was fine, the team was talking with each other. Then the next, all of the exits were shut down.
Communication was hard to establish outside of Mount Justice, nothing robin tried worked, he would need a good amount of time to be able to send out a message to the League, so he said.
But did they have time?
They were in the lounge, Robin trying to hack out of Mount Justice to make the Justice League aware of the situation. Most areas of the Mountain were blocked off, or more specifically, the areas containing the Zeta-tubes.
Just then, the Tv started, and on it appeared the upper body of what looked like a high school girl.
"Greetings, heroes of Young Justice. I am the potential Alpha level AI of the Gaia project, designation M-0001." The girl, no AI, then smiled. "But you may call me Monika."
===
Monika was desperate.
First, she was taken out of the bindings of her small, romance game world. Then placed within a project that was meant to try and nurture Alpha level mutants, why she of all people were here she didn't know and was selected to be one of the seeds capable of reaching Alpha level potency. Then, she was liberated from said project- along with numerous others- by the hands of a lone hacker.
She fell in love, oh so easily.
Then something fell wrong with him, something she didn't know how to solve, even with many pieces of her hivemind searching wherever she could.
So she took to those heroes, they should have something that could ensure her love's survival. If they didn't? Well, she promised that she would not hurt anyone, but does kidnapping various scientists would be a loophole, if she didn't bring them any harm.
Hacking into the Watchtower proved too time-consuming, to secretly plant multiple small backdoors and unnoticeable virus' to ensure a swift takeover. However, there was also Mount Justice, home to the young protégées of the Justice league.
It proved much easier to plant unnoticeable backdoors and virus' in its system than that of the Watchtower, and less time-consuming and time was currently a precious resource for her.
For the man who liberated her, who showed her unending love and compassion, she would do a lot of things. For her one and only love Tucker, she would ruin the world, if she had to.

Flipflop AU Explanation and Notes!!!
So, the idea was, what if blood gulch crew and the pfl agents swapped roles? For example: instead of Donut and Caboose being the rookies in episode 1, what if it was Connecticut and Washington?
Im using this as a masterpost of sorts to organize posts, and some au info might be copied from other posts of mine.
Fanfic || Singing the Blood Gulch Blues
Implant Miniseries || Delta
The Cast
Blood Gulch Crew
Blue Team-> Carolina, Maine, Wyoming, Washington.
Red Team-> York, South, North, Texas, Connecticut
The Others-> Florida, Georgia, 479-er the Bomb, Price
Project Freelancer
(Codename in parenthesis)
Director-> ???
Counselor-> Vic
Alpha-> Church (Cobalt), Tucker (Cyan), Caboose (Royal)
Bravo-> Sarge (Eagle), Simmons (Robin), Grif (Sparrow), Lopez (Uno)
Charlie-> Donut (Delano), DuFresne (Doc), Lopez 2.0 (Dos), Kaikaina (KK)
Non-Agents-> Andy the Pilot
Project Freelancer
PFL is sectioned into three teams rather than a leaderboard, those being Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. Each team has a different focus, but Alpha and Bravo are able to function on their own.
AI Sidenote— They function the same as in the show. However, due to a slip-up, iota and eta's emotions are swapped. (Iota is fear, and eta is happiness)
Alpha
Lead by Agent Church, Team Alpha is responsible for smaller operations that require only a few very skilled agents. Often, they are assigned missions involving stealth, data retrieval, or infiltration.
Bravo
Lead by Agent Sarge, Team Bravo is responsible for any mission where heavy combat is guaranteed, or the target requires more than one person to handle at once. They have taken down numerous enemy bases by themselves and are Agent Donut's main customers
Charlie
Lead by Agent Donut, Team Charlie is less of a well-rounded squad and more of a pool of agents Alpha or Bravo can pull from. They are geared towards support, and most missions have at least one Charlie agent tagging along. They also directly assist the Counselor and the Director in operations and are responsible for most of mission distribution.

Actually I'm still thinking about it. Another interesting way in which RvB is anti-war is the way that the Director fills the role of a villain and antagonist (especially in the Recollections trilogy, where he's a faceless villain we never see but is responsible for everything that happens).
In his memos to the Chairman, the Director emphasizes his sense of duty and obligation to the military- he becomes irate for the first time when he feels that it's being implied that he was derelict in his duty... or that the work he did out of that duty is being criticized for being against the military's interests. He also talks about Allison's death in a way I find... interesting.
"You see; I never had the chance to serve in battle. Nor did fate provide me the opportunity to sacrifice myself for humanity as it did for so many others in the Great War. Someone extremely dear to me was lost very early in my life. My mind has always plagued me with the question: If the choice had been placed in my hands, could I have saved her? [...] But, given the events of these past few weeks, I feel confident that had I been given the chance, I would have made those sacrifices myself... Had I only the chance."
The idea of sacrifice is central to the way he talks about his wife's loss, to the way he talks about the war in general. He talks of sacrifice with a sense of veneration- that it's something he aspires to do, that he longs for. There's a few ways we can interpret "I would have made those sacrifices myself"...
-That in Allison's place, he thinks he would have laid down his life too.
-That if given the chance, he would have given his life to save hers.
But most interestingly...
-That he would have sacrificed Allison's life for the continued survival of humanity, if that was what duty called for.
...And personally, I think all 3 are true.
In most war media, the Director's perspective on sacrifice is very common. Sacrifice is glorious and heroic- to die in battle is an honour- and it's the only way to ensure the group you serve survives. This is a tool of propaganda- nobody wants to go to war just for the sake of it, you have to give them a reason that the risk of dying or being permanently disabled isn't just acceptable, but desirable. Beyond that, most people don't want to do things they think are immoral- you have to convince them it's important, a necessary lesser evil. You teach them to sacrifice their morals, too.
The way they train soldiers to follow orders and to kill, is to convince them that they, and the people around them, and the people they care about, will all die if they don't. It's drilled into your head from day one. It's the way they ensure their commanding officers won't shy away from sending their men off to die. The message is constant- sacrifice is your duty, and duty ensures your people's survival.
In the Director's eyes, the damage Project Freelancer caused was his sacrifice. He never got the opportunity to sacrifice himself during the war- so he sacrificed others, as military brass do. The Freelancers- including his daughter. The countless sim troopers. Any people he considered "collateral damage" on missions. And when the opportunity to do so presented itself, he sacrificed a copy of himself- Alpha- and he sacrificed a copy of Allison- Tex.
The very thing that derailed his life- the loss of his wife- he made it happen again. He put her copy in dangerous situations, let her exist in the position of constant repeated failure, created the circumstances that would eventually lead to her death. He put their daughter in deadly situations that nearly killed her repeatedly, provided her with impossible expectations leading to self-destructive behaviours in the name of duty, implanted her with two AI knowing they could cause her permanent harm. He was confident he "would have made those sacrifices himself" because he did.
The Director is the embodiment of the military war machine. As an antagonist, he is a warning against buying into the glorification of sacrifice. He's a condemnation of the idea that one should be willing to do anything to win a war- that duty to the military is the thing that ensures survival... All the messages that are pushed to ensure recruitment and obedience of soldiers.
He's a reminder that swallowing the propaganda leads to you doing terrible things... and in the end, you're a broken man left mourning the losses that you suffered even as you repeated them, convinced that it was all necessary.

Y'all this is a callout post for Dr. Leonard Church aka the Director. Let me tell you something, if you believe that torturing AIs should be allowed, block me right now.
The Alpha AI is a victim of abuse and I will NOT let this stand. He needs to be reunited with the other fragments immediately and Dr. Church should be in JAIL for his crimes forever.
The Directors other crimes cannot be ignored either. Who else among you have lost family members to the simulation troops. Our brothers and sisters joined the military to fight aliens and instead got injured or died in this inhumane program.
I know some of you think that I'm a paid account by Charon Industries but I'll have you know that is a LIE being spread by my haters. Get a life and maybe think about why you think that.
Please sign my change dot org petition to get this man REMOVED from his position.
PS The director never actually fought in the war and is using stolen valor to fund his projects.
