A little yellow caterpillar on what I believe is some sort of Agrimony. I didn't even realize there was a caterpillar on the flowers until I looked at the photos when I got home.

Agrimonia genus
(Agrimony)
Tumblr media
(Image by W.A. Delamotte from William Baxter's British Phaenogamous Botany, 1834)
History and Etymology: This genus of flowers has many recorded uses, however not much is known of it's history. The word "agrimony" is nearly the same in its derived Greek, and no one know why this flower was named as such. Flower Symbolism: Agrimony has a very simple meaning. It stands for thankfulness and gratitude.
Fun Facts:
Agrimonia has 12-15 different species within the genus, and are mostly separated due to the location in which they grow.
Agrimony has a larger variety of medical uses than a lot of other flowers. It has been used for eye issues, used as a way to heal wounds, etc etc.
A stalk of this flower can typically reach around 6 feet high, although the petals at the top usually cause it to droop.

21/07/2023-Lakeside and home
Photos taken in this set: 1. Carrot. 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. Views on two great walks today. 5. Starling in the garden. 6. Teasel. 7. A lovely young Moorhen I enjoyed seeing, they have great stark colours and I saw Moorhens well generally today. 8. One of a couple of Collared Dove I really liked seeing at Lakeside, I'm more used to seeing them at home so it's always a novelty seeing them at Lakeside.
Alongside the geese and butterflies and moths mentioned in my last two posts about today, I enjoyed seeing House Martins delightful birds sailing through the air and hearing Chiffchaff well beside the lakes on both walks. Other highlights today were; seeing both families of Great Crested Grebes and lots of Mallards well again, Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, good views of Feral Pigeon and Magpie, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Red Soldier beetles, burdock I believe greater burdock, dark mullein, knapweed, thistle including fluffy seed heads which were illuminated by the evening sun that I enjoyed today, daisy, agrimony, hemp agrimony, St. John's-wort, meadow crane's-bill, herb-Robert, purple loosestrife, red bartsia which is coming into its own here now and cuckoo-pint. Woodpigeon, House Sparrow and Lesser Black-backed Gull out the front were other great birds to see at home today with bees flitting around the lavender seen well in the front garden and buddleia and agrimony and other flowers I liked seeing in the garden.

Agrimony sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The A5 are 5.8" x 8.25" (14.8cm x 21cm) The A4 are 8.25" x 11.7" (21cm x 29.8cm) The A3 are 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) The A2 are 16.5" x 23.4" (42 cm x 59.4cm) Originals are A3 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) Frames not included in price. Plant of the Day
Monday 3 February 2025
The seedheads of Eupatorium cannabinum (hemp agrimony, andurion, hemlock parsley, hemp weed, holy rope, Indian ague root, water agrimony) catch the low winter sunshine and continue to provide display value in the Cruickshank Botanic Garden in Old Aberdeen on the campus of the University of Aberdeen. This vigorous upright perennial has dense domed clusters of tiny light pink flowers in late summer and early autumn.
