Sword Spirits are the same as any other spirit- that is, they are simply a soul without a body. With a typical spirit, however, their body has withered away, leaving just the intangible aspects of themselves left.

Sword Spirits are the opposite.

They are made, not born. It is rare, as only a God can complete such a task: to pull a soul from the Sacred Realm before it becomes a person. Just as Fi was created by Hylia and Ghirahim was created by Demise, blank slates. Servants.

Weapons.

Warriors never got the chance to be Link. His soul was tethered to a blade before he would have been born. Created to serve in a war that is now over, he is left without a purpose. His previous Master, the Zelda of his era, could not leave such a powerful weapon alone. For fear that he’d try to take a new Master, she had his blade hidden deep within a temple and guarded by Hyrulean soldiers and perilous traps.
