yk it makes me a little sad to think about how humans dreamed up the afterlife as a means of making peace with their life on earth. like. in my history class the textbook was talking about how ancient Egyptian (3000 BCEish) thought of the afterlife was the underworld where it was an idealized version of Egyptian life. and that’s a pretty general thought for a lot of people. why do we think our life here is so bad that we have to make up a better version of it to get us through like “well at least we have ____ to look forward to in death!” that’s so sad. we should be able to just be happy while we’re alive.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION!!!

Okay so I recently read a book called Absent by Katie Williams and holy crap that shit was good. I cried for hours last night after I finished it. Also, I was not expecting that plot twist. So if anyone is looking for a book to read, one filled with emotion, supernatural, ghosts, loss, love, betrayal, and mystery this is the book for you. When I tell you I could not stop reading this. I. Could. Not. Stop. It had me in its grips since my eyes landed on the first word. I prefer audiobooks normally and never read ebooks because my phone screen is small and I have the attention span of a five year old. But when I saw this on my reading app, I tell you I could not stop reading it. This may be the first E-Book I've read that wasnt a short story or graphic novel. I read it in no less than three days, the some of fasted I've ever read a big chapter book (again, attention span of a five year old even with good books). I cannot reccomend this enough, please, if you want a book to read that will make you cry. Read this book!!!

Hi, I'm Katie! I'm a writer with two ongoing wips that I like yammering about, so ima do it here!

My wips are set in the same universe, on the planet of Illaros, fifth from the last star left living in the universe. There's a continent, some islands, and other assorted junk down there. The gods have a dyson ring, but they don't like to talk about it. The stars are the eyes of an ancient primordial force of destruction.

Honor's Outcasts follows a rag-tag group of delinquents trying to survive psycho pirates with family ties, a siren theocracy, magic that rots in your blood, and the Horrors. Their number includes such mighty heros as: a kid who can explode people with her mind, a buff shark lady who survives regular eldritch encounters by not paying attention, a mute aroace siren man with a bitchy attitude, and the world's sweetest gang mamber. Of course, they're one big family, and what's family without a little religious terrorism?

The Mystery of the Mortal God asks what happens when magic and science collide in a world where ethics panels haven't been established yet. Set a few decades down the line from HO, this story follows a cowboy witch with a chip on her shoulder as she discovers a mysterious robot laying broken and confused on the side of the road. At the same time, in a city on the other side of the globe, a blue blooded detective investigates a cold case suddenly gone hot. In time, all players will meet, including the mage who set this whole conundrum in motion.

The Final Voyage of the R.S. Starbreaker is sci-fi with ghosts! More accurately, as the magical societies of Illaros take their first steps into space, they don't use unmanned probes, but instead call upon the gods to send ghosts to be bound to a mighty runic galleon: the R.S. Starbreaker. This first skeleton crew consists of an honorable former Flying City pilot with a seedy past, a brash elven astronomer infamous for her incomplete work, a meticulous selkie cartographer determined to map the solar wheel, a laid-back fae man with a dangerous set of ideals, and the key to this mission's success: a former part of an eldritch hive mind on a hunt for his extinct people's missing afterlife.

The Val-Killjoy rivalry has an extra layer to it if you follow the Closeted Katie Killjoy headcanon. Usually not my thing, but in this case, I think it’s funny.

Imagine a lesbian or bisexual Katie who’s been repressing her same-gender attraction her whole life and afterlife, and when she finally starts to come to terms with the fact that she finds women attractive, she blames it on Val because he “gave her the gay.”

Vaggie says stuff like “rad,” “dude,” etcetera unironically and definitely gets made fun of for it. Mostly by Cherri and Angel– Pentious says it is ‘hashtag trending awesome sauce.’

Vaggie sets 6 alarms in the morning, all with custom minute intervals between the snooze alarms to make SURE she doesn't sleep through it. Charlie doesn't mind, though, mainly because she wakes up at four in the morning to work on projects anyway.

Charlie has made playlists for everyone in the hotel on hell's equivalent of spotify; Vaggie's is the most well thought out, but they all describe them very well. Alastor never listens to it due to his dislike for modern technology/apps, but he appreciates it– or at least acts like he does– nonetheless.

Charlie definitely rides on Alastor's shoulders like a little kid bro IDC WHAT U SAY

Vaggie has cried ONCE in front of the rest of the hotel after being genuinely dogged on repeatedly on one of the worst days of her life, and they all just stared at her in shock. They hate on her so much because it never impacts her– or so they think so, because Vaggie always shrugs it off. They refuse to talk about it.

Vaggie's spice tolerance is unmatched.

Each night, Charlie visits Pentious’ memorial and wraps a weighted blanket around it, saying that maybe it'd remind him of the Egg Bois and the way they snuggled around him in the afterlife.

Vaggie is a huge Hunger Games fan. 90% of her personality derives from Katniss Everdeen.

Adding onto the last one, if Charlie and Vaggie were to have a child, I feel like it'd have the personality of Lucy Gray Baird.

Niffty definitely writes strange fanfiction. Also has BL as her header on the Hell's equivalent of Twitter. She's a little twisted, but we love her.

Cherri is an absolute menace. That is the best word to describe her.

Angel and Cherri did the “screaming in public restrooms” prank once.

Everyone assumed Charlie was mid-20s until she dropped the bomb that she's over 200 years old. They were all flabbergasted (minus Vaggie, who already knew. Angel also called her a “gilf lover.”)

Angel asked Vaggie about her body count once to tick her off, and she answered “around 1,000 or so, roughly estimated,” thinking he meant kill count. Charlie was shook.

Vaggie is a Paramore, Flyleaf, Evanescence, etcetera fan. Proud listener to 2000s emo girl music.

Charlie's guilty pleasure is punk/metal/rock music. She says she only listens to “Taylor Swift and musicals,” but she has a hidden playlist with KORN, PTV, and all of those bands on it.

Angel wakes Husk up by blasting Ayesha Erotica songs into his ear occasionally since Husk is a heavy sleeper and refuses to get up sometimes.

Pentious calls himself a “semi-proud father of the Egg Bois.”

Charlie ran a hate page about Katie Killjoy. She has since moved on from it... probably.

𝜚 ₎ HEAVEN HCS

Vaggie definitely played about 100 sports back in Heaven. Fencing, soccer, and, bare with me here, she definitely did ballet. She refuses to admit so, however.

The exorcists actually aren't brought into the world as adults. Instead, they're raised by volunteer parents of Heaven their entire lives, starting fighting training at age 6 or so. They claim that “children's brains are easier to mold.” Basically, they're taught to be murder weapons from a very, very young age. It's also instinctive, but it's the training that truly brings it out.

Each exterminator is based on a different bird breed, but the most common are eagles, falcons, hawks, and generally predatory avians.

The Exterminators are also very fast flyers, and they establish the quickest flyers through racing. Vaggie was formerly the fastest until she was cast down to Hell. Now, the fastest is Lute.

Adam also referees these races, and instead of a gun or whistle to start them off, he uses his guitar.

Afterlife - Do you believe in life after death?

I do, but...I also like to think you can choose. If you followed a certain faith, you could go to that afterlife. Or you could choose nothing. Or even reincarnation. Now personally, I want this life to be my last if that's the case. Just let me decompose and have roots grow through me. My afterlife will be every springtime bloom.

Fantasy -  What’s your favorite mythical character?

Oh, I love them all...you can't seriously be making me choose.

Maybe banshees? First to come to mind, but that's probably because I'm re reading Darby O'Gill and the Little People. What a movie that was as well! I saw it way too young and the face of the Banshee when she comes for Katie is clear as day in my mind...and who doesn't cry whenever they have laundry to do. Especially by hand. Incredibly relatable.

Owl - What creature would you have as a familiar?

A rabbit... Unassuming and certainly not frightening. Who pays attention to a prey animal the color of dust and dirt, that cringes at the shadow of a hawk over head? It runs, so fast you can hardly see it, to the safety of the burrow where no one thinks about it anymore, where no one wonders how many might be hiding in the earth or how far those tunnels may stretch. Oh, the world may have countless enemies...but they have to catch us first. And we have grown clever over time, watching the traps be set out for us. When one falls, another will take its place.

Derry Girls: absolute masterpiece, incredibly funny and also moving at the same time. It’s set during the troubles in Ireland and follows a group of school children and their families, and all the stupid shenanigans they get up to

Arcane: stunning, genuinely my favourite show for visuals ever. Top tier character designs and arcs, fantasy/action vibes and really entertaining character arcs! S2 (the final season) came out last week!

Miraculous Ladybug: very comedic and shenanigan-y if you have the stomach for cringing a bit. Writing wise low-key dreadful but a really entertaining world and set of characters, once you’re into it you can’t get out

TDP: MAGIC. FANTASY. DRAGONS. I love so many things about it but esp the side wlw ship which will forever have my heart!

a man on the inside, Brooklyn 99, the good place: these are all by the same director and all epiccc! A man on the inside is about a lonely old guy who is hired by a PI to go undercover in a care home but ends up making friends there. The good place is a comedy with emotional moments set in the afterlife (if watching this be careful to avoid spoilers). All three are a vibe and I very much reccomend! Michael Schur makes masterpieces!

Never have I ever: the most entertaining and wildly aggravating show I have ever watched. You will hate Devi at times but also she is so endearing! I rewatch the few episodes I can manage to get thru whenever I can!

Some people might remember me posting something similar when Overcompensate came out, but I wanted to do it again.

To make a very long story short, when I was 14, seven years ago, about two years into the clique, through a concert group chat, I came into contact with a girl named Emily. She was 17 almost 18. We were both huge 21p fans.

This period of time was the darkest in my life; I was pretty sure I was going to take my own life before I graduated high school. I was all over the place and I ended up having a few heart-to-heart conversations with Emily.

Specifically, just because of circumstances, she was the first person I managed to contact after I went through a traumatic experience when I was 14. She didn’t say anything that stuck out, but she comforted me and I will never forget it.

Emily was also dealing with a lot of her own issues; she was open about it. Our contact lasted from March to August 2017 until we just naturally stopped talking.

That was until December 2017 when a mutual friend alerted me to Katie’s Instagram being tagged in multiple memorial posts. After some light digging and context clues from captions, we confirmed Emily had taken her life December 5, 2017.

I’m now 21 and thriving. I was able to heal and I am continuing to heal. I finish college next year and I’m excited for my future. But it never feels any less heavy when I think about Emily.

I promised myself when I found out about Emily’s passing that I would remember her each 21p milestone and I would share her memory.

With the release of Clancy, seven years later, I want to continue to keep that promise.

Emily loved music. She played the guitar and had a lot of friends. She really felt pride in the fact that she loved to help people and she wanted to find a job where she could help people. I wish so desperately she was able to complete that dream.

I don’t know my own feelings about the afterlife, but all that comes to mind when I think of Emily now is that I just hope she is finally at peace. I still follow her Instagram, her last post from September 2017 of her dog. She had multiple posts about 21p on there and she was so excited about new music.

I hope wherever she is, she is still able to listen to Clancy.

I knew Emily for less than a year and we never met irl and there hasn’t been a time when I make a post commemorating her that I don’t cry like a baby. You truly don’t have any clue how much of an impact you have on the world. I wish we had one final conversation where I told her how much her talking to me that one day did.

As I listen to Clancy obsessively on repeat for the next few weeks, I hope somehow Emily is listening as well.

The world misses you Emily. You deserve to be at peace. |-/
