LOOK!! I FOUND A VIDEO OF A DANCE THAT MY OLD HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER TRIED TO MAKE US LEARN!! (Did we learn it? No! Did we have fun? HELL YEAH!)
This is an afrocolombian folcloric dance that is also known and danced in Ecuador ^^ it's difficult as hell to make it right, but when the dancers do it right it's beautiful to see! I wanted to share it because it brought me many good memories of dance classes during high school :3
Tagging just to share: @islandtarochips @snootlestheangel @alypink @stuffireadandenjoy @justasmolbard

La Piscina Vacía Session: Vol. 10 - La Morena del Chicamocha
some traditional afrocolombian music stylings called Bullerengue and Chalupa performed by La Morena del Chicamocha and composed stemming from her experience as a trans poc in Colombia. unfortunately there are no english subtitles but it's such a beautiful performance, definitely worth a watch.
#unfortunately i don't know much about chalupa but i enjoy bullerengue and it reminds me so much of bomba done in puerto rico#Youtube

Viche Son de Caña
Review by: The Auditor Review #1166; Rum #481 Here we have a bottling of Viche from Colombia. Viche is the sugar cane spirit distilled by Afrocolombian communities in the Colombian Pacific coast. 7. CENA
"...having dispatched a dinner of veal, with cassava, yams, and fried bananas, and a case and a half of champagne in addition, Aureliano Segundo was sure of victory." (Marquez 255) Estimado/a: On our last night we went to La Frontera, a Mexican restaurant for dinner. It was here that we all shared a meal and reflected on our time in Santa Marta together. Although it was customary for us to eat together on most occasions, this time was special. Not only was it our final night but everyone ate together including Professor Adriano. We cracked jokes, ate until we were stuffed and truly wished the merriments as well as our time together would never end. This atmosphere I believe is what Ursula hoped to inspire in the Buendía house when she renovated the house and made sure the windows and doors were always open to welcome guests to eat with the family at the long table. Iced wine, a Canadian specialty was shared courtesy of Ashley and Nelly. Meanwhile, Diego Soledad shared with us viche, an AfroColombian drink similar to that of moonshine. It felt as though we were tapping into Aureliano Segundo’s tendencies of opulence and decadence as he indulged in throwing lavish parties and eating gluttonously. Marquez writes, “Since Aureliano Segundo had taken charge of the house those festivities were a common thing, even when there was no motive as proper as the birth of a Pope.” (189)

Row over ancestral festivity divides Afro-Colombian town
The recent election of Colombia’s first ever black vice-president, Francia Márquez, has thrust Afro-Colombian voices into the limelight, providing them with greater support and recognition. In Guapi, Ms Márquez and her presidential running mate, Gustavo Petro, secured 94% of the vote in June’s elections. #Row #ancestral #festivity #divides #AfroColombian #town

Five kids aged 14 to 16 years old were found dead in the poor neighborhood of Llano Verde, in Cali, Colombia, this past Tuesday (August 11th). It is suspected that the kids were murdered because they refused to be recruited into gangs. The massacre has caused a lot of sadness in the Afro-Colombian community and beyond. Another horrible act of violence occurred yesterday (August 13th), during the funeral service that was held in honor of the victims, a grenade exploded and left one dead and 15 injured. All of this happened in a neighborhood populated mostly by families that arrived recently to Cali from rural parts of the country that they had to escape because of the armed conflict. After being displaced by violence from their territories, forced to leave under the threats of paramilitary groups, they arrived to the city only to live in neighborhoods where they are exposed to more poverty and violence... But do Black Lives Matter outside of the US? Please say their names... Juan Manuel Montaño, 15 years old. Jean Paul Perlaza, 15 years old. Leyder Cardenas, 15 years old. Alvaro Jose Caicedo, 14 years old. Jair Andres Cortez, 14 years old.

I Am Because We Are / Soy porque somos
Hey y'all! I'm here to invite you to this talk with two of my idols, one you probably know but the other one you SHOULD bc she´s awesome, Francia is an amaaazing woman and you'd probably love her as I do. Anyway here´s the invite:
I'm attending an event called “I Am Because We Are”: A conversation between Francia Márquez Mina and Angela Davis.
“I Am Because We Are”: A conversation between Francia Márquez Mina and Angela Davis This event will be streamed in English and Spanish.
///\\\ “Soy Porque Somos”: Una conversación entre Francia Márquez Mina and Angela Davis Este evento se transmitirá en inglés y español.
In March of 2010, activist, author and Distinguished Professor Angela Davis met with Afro-Colombian activist, human rights lawyer and former president of the National Council for Peace in Colombia, Francia Márquez Mina. Later that year, Davis went on a solidarity trip to Márquez Mina’s hometown of La Toma, an important community in the movement against dispossession and extractivism. Later, in 2014, Angela Davis sent a video expressing her support for Márquez Mina when she led a 10-day, 350 kilometer, march of 80 women to Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. This mobilization demanded the suspension of all illegal and unconstitutional mining, as well as the removal of all the mining equipment from La Toma. Now, as Francia and the Soy Porque Somos “I am Because We Are” embark on the campaign to be elected President of Colombia, they meet again to discuss radical politics in Colombia and the U.S. today. They will discuss black radical politics, left coalitions, black women’s movements, the carceral state, paths to abolition, and issues related to environmental justice.
This conversation will be moderated by Mamyrah Dougé-Prosper at the University of California, Irvine and International Coordinator of the Community Movement Builders' Pan African Solidarity Network.

💙🇨🇴🎨 #ArtIsAWeapon #MiamiArtWeek2019 As I strolled through @scopeartshow, I was instantly drawn to this gorgeous painting by multidisciplinary #artist @saivargas (swipe ⬅️). As I got closer, I felt so connected to her, and I just happened to be wearing a blue dress and headwrap that day. Simon told me that he created this striking series of oil paintings entitled "Mujeres de Providencia," to honor and capture the beauty of Afro-Caribbean women from the #Colombian island of #Providencia. Thank you for being so gracious, Simon.
