Kumina is an Afro-Jamaican religion. Kumina has practices that include secular ceremonies, dance and music that developed from the beliefs and traditions brought to the island by Kongo enslaved people and indentured labourers, from the Congo region of West Central Africa, during the post-emancipation era. It is mostly associated with the parish of St. Thomas in the east of the island. However, the practice spread to the parishes of Portland, St. Mary and St. Catherine, and the city of Kingston.

Kumina also gives it name to a drumming style, developed from the music that accompanied the spiritual ceremonies, that evolved in urban Kingston. The Kumina drumming style has a great influence on Rastafari music, especially the Nyabinghi drumming, and Jamaican popular music. Count Ossie was a notable pioneer of the drumming style in popular music and it continues to have a significant influence on contemporary genres such as reggae and dancehall.

The Kumina riddim is a dancehall riddim produced by Sly & Robbie in 2002. It has featured in recordings of over 20 artists including Chaka Demus & Pliers and Tanya Stephens.

Kumina is an Afro-Jamaican Religion and is not the same as Pukkumina or Pocomania.

Kumina emerged through the practices of indentured labourers who were brought to Jamaica from the Kongo region of central Africa after the abolition of slavery. In the second half of the 19th century it syncretised with Myalism. Kumina differed from Zion Revivalism in rejecting the belief that the Bible should be the central authority behind worship.

The practices of Kumina are primarily linked to healing.[4] Healing ceremonies utilise singing, dancing, drumming, animal sacrifice, and spirit possession, with the intent of summoning spirits to heal the sick individual. These elements are also found in Myalism and Zion Revivalism.

Organization of Kumina communities follows the general local character of African religions in Jamaica. Kumina communities are small family based communities or nations. Some nations include Mondongo, Moyenge, Machunde, Kongo, Igbo, and Yoruba. People from Kumina families are given the title Bongo. Marrying into a Bongo family is one avenue to become a part of a Kumina nation; special initiation is the other avenue. Kumina nations are led by a "King" and "Queen". Imogene "Queenie" Kennedy AKA Queenie III (c1920-1998) was a well-known Kumina Queen in the 20th century, born in St Thomas in the late 1920s she later moved to Kingston and then Waterloo, St Catherine.

The use of cannabis or ganja in Kumina may have been an influence on the adoption of this plant as a sacrament in Rastafari, a religion that developed in Jamaica during the 1930s.

SPLATOON AU TIME: Here’s inkling Duncan (punk rock cause I was thinking of a pop idol vocaloid au, he’s thinking about Madge, i ship them), a younger Octoling Stanley who was an agent during the war with Kyle, who looks too much like Frye and Iono and is still easily excitable. Like their human counterparts, Stanley stayed away from others due to his jinx and was ostracized, not that they minded at all while Kyle was an orphan, having lost their family to a massive heatwave and famine. They end up bumping into each other with Kyle being amazed and in awe 🤩🤩of meeting an Octoling, instead of running away or avoiding him like Stanley is use to, they instead compliments him and asks so many questions, flustering and overwhelming him a lot so it just went from there (there’ s a whole storyline that I haven’t figure out yet but kyle gets kidnapped and stanley recuses him and they become a couple later on im working no the details)

Plus some Stanley x Andreas shipping, just some boyfriends doing each other's hair. it was based off that overwatch photo of Lucio doing Junkrat’s hair and I thought it was cute and adorable 💞💓💖💗

Luke is an octoling like Stanley and thus was accused of killing someone (Victor though I don’t know how that works here) and an entire town so he’s on the run until he meets Inkling Ivo Hugh, an newbie to the games as they become battle partners and try to solve the mystery (I haven’t figured out who most of the cast is, though Rusty is also an Octoling)

Stanley and Kyle(Proteus is his stage name) becomes idols after fighting in the war together (stanley was Agent 2, Kyle the inkling was 7) before settling down together as musical influences, a younger octoling Stanley before everything went to hell, Kyle wearing a Frye inspired outfit and wears a mask inspired by Lord Ganesha (he’s Indian/Arab), Stanley leans more towards his Cherokee/Mohawk Iroquis/Creole myths, legends and folklore on coyote and foxes(get it? red fox-) (haven’t draw him yet bu andreas leans more towards argentine dance folklorico, duncan’s rock n roll)

 here so I’ve been trying to figure out their names, like Dead Sea, Kyle is blatantly inspired by Frye in appearance and dance, and loves hanging out with Stanley. Like folks think it’s Stanley they should avoid and rumors tend to spread but nope it’s Kyle cause they once threw a chair at someone making fun of Stanley, Kyle may be a overly happy, optimistic chap but they won’t take nicely to anyone picking on their loved ones. Your side mission was to get shit faced, the original plan was to impress Namjoon. Joon’s friend and the heart throb physics teacher in the neighboring highschool. He was tall, with tanned skin and striking silver hair, to which he kept maintenance on religiously, whenever he smiled dimples adorned his cheeks, (Y/N) melted under his presence, and ever since Joon had introduced them about a month ago she was determined to get his attention. 

Perphase that’s why she stood in the mirror taking in her curves. Kiya had since left her room leaving the drunken middle school teacher in her matching undergarments. “So sexy” (Y/N) slurred to herself. It was definitely the alcohol inviting this new found confidence. (Y/N) fumbled to locate her phone, and when she found it began finding the best angles of herself. “Let’s just take Sunday to recover, and then never again” The two roomates agreed and quietly nursed their hangover. 

“Namjoon seemed to be into it though” Kiya finally piped up, leaving her place into the kitchen to take her place in the easy chair. “He was definitely checking you out, and returning all your drunken flirting.” 

(Y/N) shot up, pushing the sudden hit of nausea aside. “I was flirting with Namjoon?”  Kiya raised an eyebrow and tilted her head causing a dread to fall from its messy bun. 

“You don’t remember? Come on (Y/N) you weren’t that wasted. Plus you were doing a good job! Positive touch, smiling, turning your feet toward him with open body language.” As Kiya continued her praise in sex therapist (Y/N) racked her brain thinking about what happened last night.

(Y/N) herself had to fight the eyes that would fixate on her curly afro or her body. She was extremely curvy, with a small waist she wore a size 10 dress to accommodate her large hips and size G breasts but would always have fabric bunch around her midsection. Korean dress didn’t quite fit her and she to settle with high shipping costs to get clothes from american websites.  

Her first day teaching her students awed at her skin color and hair she purposely left free in order to allow the children to formulate all the questions they possibly could.  

“This is the only day you can ask me anything! After that you're disrupting my class and that’s detention” She has told her class and for the rest of the lesson she was bombarded with questions about American, rap music, her hair, and soul food.
