✨HEADCANON✨
Tumblr media
Topic: Pets
Characters: König, Ghost, Price, Soap
CW? Sfw
König
He has a dog. A big one. Not necessarily a German shepherd but like a Rottweiler and they’re a very nice doggo and sometimes König babysits Riley and the two dogs get along so good together 🥺
Simon “Ghost” Riley
He has a couple dogs, sometimes he and König meet up to take their dogs on walks together. He also always gave me pet snake vibes, but don’t ask me why bc idk
John Price
Person: “You should get a kitten.”
Price: “No, I don’t like cats.”
[later someone gifts him a kitten]
Price: “…. Fine.”
6 months later, they both have separation anxiety for each other and Price has a nanny cam set up (one of those ones you can talk into through an app on your phone) at his house so he can still interact with his cat while he’s away.
John “Soap” MacTavish
This man has an African Grey Parrot (they are incredibly smart animals) and it has a Scottish accent and he teaches it to insult Ghost (think Ghost and Soap’s normal dialogue from the game, but more chaotic bc Ghost hates arguing with a bird).

I’m not asking for like detailed intricate care information because that is obviously research I would have to do on my own BUT on like an emotional/spiritual level... do you recommend an African grey as a pet?
For the average person? No, not really. I love Ripley, but most parrots are special needs pets.
Greys regularly live to be more than fifty years old, crave tons of social interaction, and are perpetual toddlers with a pair of wirecutters attached to their face. They poop about every fifteen minutes, wherever they feel like it, and are constantly scheming ways to destroy your furniture. Screaming (really loud screaming) is a normal and healthy social activity for parrots and you can’t and shouldn’t try to stop them from doing it. They’re fragile animals that require specialized vet care and are easily harmed by household objects like nonstick pans or window glass, but they can also fuck you up–I have permanent scars on my body and face from Ripley’s more emotionally volatile adolescence.
He bosses me around and gets very sulky if I haven’t hung out with him for at least an hour every day, even if the other people who live with me have spent several hours talking to him. Ripley is never truly alone in the house, because I have two cockatiels who flock call him constantly throughout the day, but most days he also asks us to turn the TV on when we leave for work. I spend a lot of time training and caring for him but I still have regular anxiety dreams about something bad happening to him–and so do the other people who live with him.
Tumblr media
That said? I can’t imagine my life without Ripley, and each day he awes and humbles me with his intelligence and the depth of his emotions. The fact that he openly loves us humans and says so (and means it!) will forever amaze me. Talking with him is literally communicating with an inhuman intelligence, and it’s probably the closest thing I’ll ever experience to speaking with an alien. He’s smarter than I’ll ever be able to fully understand, and living with him is a little bit like having a pet, a little bit like having a kid, and mostly like having a very weird roommate who everyone else in the house is slightly afraid of. If you are the kind of person who wants to commit a huge chunk of your life to caring for a dinosaur child, a relationship with a parrot could be very rewarding for you.

I hope your hiatus goes well! As for a more interesting ask tho, if you could have any bird in the world be your pet(with no limitations, like u could fulfill all their needs and everything), what kind of bird would you choose?
(TW, animal welfare; animal neglect, animal SH, infodump; Putting that out there because uh, I went on a tangent cause I am passionate; Short caps)
Man that is such a controversial topic for me XD Because I’m very firm in the sense that raptors and sort shouldn’t be in captivity beyond conservation purposes (and falconry for conservation) and if they are, they should be given maximum range - and for parrots that are in mass bred in environments not suited for them and its a large issue that we’ve kind of dug a whole into, so parrots shouldn’t be pets, but if you have to they should be companions with almost the entire time out of the cage so like XD
I have a reactive response to birds as pets but the theoretical could fufill all their needs and everything” does cover some of that - though I also would still have to sit and question if the dynamic between a human and a wild bird could ever simultaneously exist with having all their needs fufilled so I’m sitting here rubbing my chin as a overly complicate an otherwise relatively simple question.
In leu of the honor of the original question and what I get the intent to be (aka, if there was ABSOLUTELY no issues and it was 100% possible to maintain both a human-bird bond with said animal while having their full life) it would probably be a toss up between a Harpy Eagle, Barn Owl, Secretary Bird, and California Condor.... maybe a penguin or cormorant if I had a really nice water bed. OR A RAVEN SINCE THEY BRING SHINIES BACK. It really would be a different answer to who you ask in the system though. I probably would go uh.... I actually really don’t know. I might actually go Snowy Owl..? Maybe? Aesthetically I’d go Secretary Bird but personality wise I’d like a Raven hmmm
I really can’t put a finger on a favorite bird. Raven I feel would probably be the easiest to both have a fully wild and free relationship with but also an individual bond that would be enjoyable, but I dunno. Its really hard of a question to answer
As for the more technical - I would probably take the question and warp it to the alternative loop hole question of - hey, you are saying I could provide for an animal’s needs entirely?
I would take in the honest to god most torn up - feather plucking - self mutilating - anxious depressed bird; probably a cockatoo breed, and take it in.
I actually have a habit of trying to take in really anxious, sad, or mistreated cockatiels in and trying to bring them up and let them behaviorally adjust to people and other birds a lot and its actually a dream goal to help parrots get a renewal on life since some live just as long as we do, but often are much much much more neglected throughout their entire life as dependents.
Like I can go on and on about it, but a lot of the longer living birds (cockatoos, african greys, etc) can be bred for money, bought for aesthetic, and treated poorly, abandoned or put for adoption and bounce from home to home to home that was not prepared for them and getting so many behavioral issues and “bird mental health” issues as I put simply and some really just dont get the chance to have a happy life. Some have a good owner until they are 30, then their owner dies and their owner’s family doesn’t want to care for them so they are sold or abandoned or put up for adoption and after living a great life are put into the cycles others do so like
One of my dreams if I ever get the money would be to legitimately have an Aviary and / or be a part of a parrot rehabilitation and rescue center XD I was actually up front with my fiance when I started dating that my future with caring for birds and adopting / fostering ones in need is something he would have to accept as my package / baggage or I will not under any circumstances proceed with a relationship XD
AND IM RANTING SO AT THE ANON THAT SAID RANT GO AHEAD I WISH I GOT THIS DONE FOR YOU BECAUSE I HAVEN’T FOUND A TOPIC TO RANT ABOUT FOR YOU AND HERE I AM RANTING ON THE WRONG ANON
But like, since I’m part ways on this tangent, lemme share one of my princesses that I’ve been caring for. (Quick photo below the keep reading)
[cue Riku gushing about their bird]
We got her from a previous owner that really couldn’t care for her and named her “Crash” because she kept crashing every time she flew (which is btw very dangerous - even if I noticed she seemed to learn how to “crash safely) and I really didn’t find the name cute cause it clearly was an issue - so I renamed her to Avery Rose - Avery being like Ivory + Avian and Rose cause I like Rose; but she also was REALLY terrified of hands and people and if a hand was within like 2 feet of her she’d panic - fly (or try to) and crash - and if you got her she’d bite like, right through your hand. I figure (vet wasn’t sure and didn’t want to do unnecessary invasive procedures to be sure) that she either has some joint / motor issue that makes it hard to fly or she has poor vision that makes her anxious.
She also would pluck a lot out of stress and anxiety and isolation and stuff cause cockatiels are social birds and they need a lot of stimulus form their owner and/or other birds. She ALSO really didn’t get along with other birds either and would pretty much kinda avoid them. Even until today she kinda seems to miss the social cues of the other birds or not meld in since like, most birds get excited when small treats or “cookies” are brought over and they start pacing and heading to the food dishes, but she just kinda like.... waits or shows no interest XD
She’s a really unique personality. But anyways, my mom took her in originally and uh... as a typically kind of neglectful mom does, just kinda found her “too difficult” and just gave up on her, and I saw that and was like OH HELL NAH JUST CAUSE SHES REALLY ANXIOUS, SOCIALLY ABNORMAL, BITES HARD AND CRASHES DOES NOT MEAN YOU GET TO ABANDON HER so despite technically not signing up for it I was like “Mom she’s mine and I am taking over her care what you are doing is kind of cruel”
And like, one of the flock members we have is the son of my first cockatiel who I helped raise (aside from his parents who primarily raised him) and socialized as he is now a bit of my personal emotional support birb, but with insistent help from me and I’m guessing bird support from a slightly younger and annoying boy birb that really liked her, she actually managed to learn out to fly REALLY well (like my boy, my son here literally like, kept doing small loops around and following her around until she got it and literally repetitively flew up and down to help her figure out how to land it melted my heart) and she actually really likes me specifically holding her and coddling her or hugging her, which I think might be because it might give her security.
She still plucks as it is one of those things that can follow a bird for life (though its getting better) and she is still anxious and really odd in social behaviors to the other birds, but she really seems to function in a happy life and she has a bird partner and a human mother and unlike before she can fly like any other bird and crashes rarely ever and like
She’s one of the things that I am most proud of seeing and lights up my world and I am SO god damn proud of her and she has LOWKEY been an inspiration for my recovery sometimes cause GOD do I love her XD
Her and her partner / “my boy / son” are the two birds that follow me to and from college and they seem to actually like car trips now? XD But they are my roommates and I love them immensely ;w;
Anon: What bird would you have if you could have any of them and treat them perfectly to their need
Me: DID YOU ASK ABOUT BIRD WELFARE, TECHNICALITIES AND PROBLEMS WITH BIRDS AS PETS (other than typically domesticated ones), MY DREAMS ABOUT SAVING ALL BIRDS IN THE WORLD AND THE STORY OF ONE OF MY BABY GIRLS AND HER MENTAL HEALTH JOURNEY?!
I apologize I do this sometimes :v I hope you enjoy my infodump / ramble

Not a question from the thing but going off one of the answers on that, what are your fave birds??
I LOVE GOFFIN COCKATOOS SO MUCH.........i grew up with a bunch of birds because my mom does parrot rescue so I have a lot of experience spending time with them and I formed a very close bond with a particular goffin that has remained bonded to me for at least 15 years. They’re really clever, really fun, and they all have anxiety which is such a mood. I also love african greys cuz they’re so darn smart.
As far as non-parrots go, I’m a big fan of the red-tailed hawk. when i was a kid, i always wanted to be one if i got reincarnated.

HEADCANON: Ricks that have eluded the citadel and Ricks’ from the other side of Finite curve.
Ritas are female Ricks : Classy queen science bitch. Dresses a bit like Rick only: wears pearl earring, and a pearl necklace, has a grey conservative bob, also no unibrow (that’s why they made waxing dear) Cold, tough as nails, classy and hardly ever seen without her martini or wine glass. She had to be tough because she was woman in the STEM field at a time when women has their research stolen by their male colleagues or discredited and stolen. That never happened to her, although it cost her career to the point where she end up formally leaving the field altogether. Unlike Rick, she doesn’t belch,  or fart  even if she’s three sheets to the wind. Has not joined the citadel  of Ritas which she refers to as ‘the sewing circle’. Sounds like Jessica Walter
Morticia ‘Morti’ Sanchez: a quiet unassuming, aspie nerd girl, suffers from anxiety. Just wants to write & read fan fiction and be left alone to be nerdy and crush on girls. Sadly, her Grandma keeps dragging her on these fucking adventures.
~~~~~
Chef Rick is a bit of combo or Anthony Bourdain (SUCKIT) and Alton Brown, his globally inspired fusion molecular gastronomy cuisine  have won him tons of awards, including a James Beard and piles of money. Also he totally has show where he travels around the world with his reluctant grandkids introducing them to new and frightening (For a easterner) foods. He’s one a few Chef Ricks’ that’s avoided the citadel, mostly cuz he keeps his knives sharp & handy.
UK  born Rick  is Glaswegian, and moved down from Glasgow(?) live with his daughter, her British husband, grandkids and cuz they live in a semi-detached house has to use his shed on his allotment as a workshop. (You can totally have Peter Capaldi to voice or play him now).Possibly worked for M1-5 or the Kingsmen?
Gay Dragqueen Rick’s Drag name is K-laxia Rixxvaganza, No one is more fishy, tucks better, or brings the realness like this queen. Also no one is a bigger bitch.
Gem Rick looks female and is a blue quartz that was made for an extremely limited time. Any remaining Blue quartz’s have portal led off home world to the farthest reaches of the universe, possibly never to return.
Gem Morty is Nacre otherwise known as Mother of Pearl. low quality servant gem, who is as neurotic as dozen Pearls. Often seen in the company of Blue Quartz’s
Pony Rick (of the MLP universe) is called unicorn called Thinky Booze, who currently resides in the deepest, darkest, recesses of Princess’s Celestia’s dungeons and continues to resist any and all forms rehabilitation. His cutie mark is flask.
Pony Morty is well just Morty… in pony form? Currently is wondering why Grandpa Thinky disappeared.
Cat Rick is known as Carl in most parts of the multi-verse and is a thin, white cat with one yellow eye and one blue*, drools when happy, steals, scratches, bites, highly intelligent gives no shits and does SHIT ON THE FLOOR (clean my litterbox BIIIITCHES!) Also is the best hunter of all vermin, birds and brings down bigger prey. Indoor-Outdoor Cat  because you try and see if you can keep version of Rick locked up. Usually dumps the mutilated remains of his prey  at his owner’s feet, in smug fashion.
Dog Rick was euthanized for aggressiveness after being dumped at a shelter.
Dog Morty has lived a long wonderful fulfilling life.
Parrot Rick is African Grey, and despite knowing more words then any other bird even of his very intelligent breed, mostly says: FUCK YOU! and screeches at 4 am.  Has outlived his first owner and now lives with owner’s daughter.
*Expect on Discworld he’s called Greebo there.
earth, 11-11, and contemplation!
earth: where do you feel most at home? —Probably the field behind my house in the late summer—early autumn months. I have a lot of good memories there from when I was younger. It’s my go to place whenever I need to get out of the house to take a breather.
11-11 : What’s something you want but feel you can never have? —Freedom. Every choice I make seems to be dictated by what others think. I try way too hard to live up to the expectations of others, especially my parents. I want to be able to say “no” and not feel as though I have to give an explanation. I want to be out to my friends and family without worry that I’ll be disowned by any of them (some of my family are very judgmental and deeply religious).
contemplation: If you could wake up one morning and everything in your life was perfect, what would it be like? — I wake up in an apartment that I share with a roommate who is also a very good friend of mine. I’d have freedom from my parents and their control with a job I love that gives me the option to work from home. Career-wise, I think I’d go for something creative, like a career in writing or editing. I’d be a published author working on my next novel. In my free time I’d work on learning a new instrument or creating a webcomic to share with others. I’d be a few years into my transition and have love and support from my family and friends who accept me for the man I am. Maybe I’ll even be in a relationship. That would be lovely. Anxiety will be at an all time low. I’d wake up early, not because I have to, but because I want to. I’d look forward to every single day because I’ll see every day as a new adventure no matter how small. I think I’d have a pet, too. Like a cat or maybe a bird. I love African Grey Parrots! I’ve already thought of a name, Artemis Fowl. Get it? ‘Cause it’s a bird and—yeah, you get it. Or a cat named Neko di Angelo like Nico di Angelo but with the Japanese word for cat. Lol puns. I think I’m funny. Overall, my perfect life would simply be me acting openly as my true self without fear. :)
Why is my bird plucking? Non-Medical Causes of Feather Plucking
(Here is a thing I wrote for a Wordpress blog! Contains academic sources!)
Feather plucking in birds can be a confusing situation. Sometimes birds pluck themselves, sometimes they pluck other members of the flock; the cause can be a medical issue or the cause can be a behavioral problem. In this post, we'll take a look at the non-medical side to feather plucking.
Note: If your bird is plucking, please do not try to diagnose the cause on your own. Seek veterinary care, as the plucking could be caused by an underlying condition.
Birds are incredibly smart creatures, and without the proper environment and stimulation, they can turn to self-mutilation. Likely causes for behavioral-based plucking include stress, separation anxiety, lack of enrichment/interaction and attention seeking. It's also important for bird owners not to encourage behavioral plucking, especially if plucking is used as an attention grabber.
However, in a study called "Nonmedical Factors Associated with Feather Picking in Pet Psittacine Birds," published in the 2014 issue of Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery, researchers found that some species are more inclined to pluck. They found that African greys and cockatoos were more likely to pluck than other birds. A few other studies included macaws and eclectus parrots as being more likely to pluck. The researchers also found that rescue birds and birds given more than eight hours of out-of-cage-time were more likely to pluck.
So why would African greys and cockatoos be singled out as the most likely to pluck? African greys are extremely intelligent birds -- they're compared to human toddlers for a reason. Their intelligence may lend them to be more likely to suffer from lack of interaction and enrichment and turn to feather plucking. Cockatoos are also intelligent birds, but lean toward the affectionate side. Cockatoos crave socialization, and if they are denied that, especially if it is a single bird, they may pluck due to separation anxiety, lack of interaction or attention-seeking behavior.
On the flip side, over-stimulation can lead to plucking and feather damaging behaviors, too. Lack of sleep or downtime and constant noise (think young children playing or a noisy neighborhood) are examples of over-stimulation that are likely to cause stress and possibly feather plucking.
Mating behavior and territorial behavior may also lead to feather plucking. Either of these could lead to one bird plucking its flockmate. If this occurs, the owner needs to separate the two to prevent further aggression.
Why is your bird plucking? Even on the behavior-based/non-medical side, there is a plethora of reasons why a bird may pluck. Other research, which wasn't even discussed in this article, cites cage placement, sex and obsessive grooming as causes. It can be difficult to pin down the exact reason. The best way to answer the "why" is to evaluate yourself, your bird and your relationship. If you are able to examine your bird's behavior, diet, sleep schedule, toys, etc., you can narrow down your possible causes.
A vet can help you diagnose the cause of your bird's plucking, as well as correct it.
