Kindly take a break from scrolling to read this, it's important.
Take your time to grieve and come to terms with the election results, but once you've done that, it's time to get to work. We have two months. And a lot to do in that time. We have to prepare, to be ready.
Be careful about what you post or say online. Anything potentially incriminating should be avoided. Threatening language, even if clearly a joke, can be used against you.
Know someone who's trans? Someone who's had an abortion? Someone who's LGBTQIA+? Someone who's an immigrant? Someone who attends protests? Someone who's disabled? Someone who might in any way be at risk due to laws being put into place? No you don't.
Move away from social media platforms and browsers that require you to use your real identity or input a large amount of personal information. Now's a good time to find alternate means of communicating online. Tails, Element, Tor, Mastodon, Firefox, and Lemmy are all decent options.
Find a community. Someone you can talk to, either online or in real life, that you'll have reliable contact with. We need to try and create a network, but one that's as anonymous as possible.
Start scrubbing your trail as much as possible. Get rid of old accounts that can still be traced to you but are no longer used, delete personal data off the internet. There are websites out there that will freely remove your data from the internet, but be careful about which one you use, make sure it's safe and legitimate first.
Change any usernames that you can that contain any personal information. Names, birthdays, anything.
Plan B has a four year shelf life. Stock up, but don't take more than you you'll need. We don't want a COVID repeat where everyone buys an excessive amount of things and leaves none for everybody else.
There are doctors that will sterilize you, if that's the way you want to go.
Stop using online period trackers right now. Delete all data from it if possible first, then delete the app itself. If you must, write it down, but in a subtle manner and on something you keep at home. Don't label it, just put the dates. If you're really worried, discard older records and only keep the most recent few, and label the dates as other random events, like "go to mall" or "chicken salad for dinner this night"
Get your vaccines now.
Save money.
Archive. We have to start collecting records, media, data, books, and articles now. On racism, on fascism, on homophobia, on gender, on self-reliance, on survival, on safe travels routes, on equality, on justice, on anything that may be useful and/or censored soon. We can't let them erase it.
Collect those online resources. Bookmark them, copy files into your storage, Screenshot pages. Create a decentralized library where everyone is working to be part of a whole, storing what they can individually and sharing it between one another. Again, be careful about doing this.
Second-hand bookstores are your best friend. Books are usually very cheap in them, and they often have a decent stock. See what you can find.
When buying ANYTHING I have mentioned above, or anything else that maybe put you in danger, try to use cash to reduce your spending trail.
Check your car information online, many newer models can be remotely tracked.
Turn your phone completely off if you may be at risk due to your location and current activities. Turning off your GPS also helps.
Take note of where you are. Who are your friends? Who's a safe person? Where can you go besides your own home that you know you'll be safe? Establish these connections now.
Who around you is not safe? Who and where do you need to avoid? Do you need to move? If you cannot afford moving but need to, there are fundraisers that can help you. If even that is not an option, at least try to make sure your home is secure. Have someone who can help you. Have a fallback safe place.
And finally, I want anyone with resources to put them in the replies. Flood it with useful links, information, tips, anything. We're in this together. Do not panic. Organize.
EDIT: Please be civil in the replies.

more dad dabi head content?! you write it so welllll🥺🥺🥺
*sighs.* It's been a long day for me so im coping by speedrunign this. thanks for requesting, I appreciate you interacting with me more so than the usual like or comment.
Author notes under the cut as well as links
Warnings: FLUFF (mostly, 90%), not proof read, SPOILERS, minor swearing.
reader has blue eyes like Dabi's (she's a toddler, 3-4 years old)
Dabi calls reader bunny, Dabi is addressed as "Daddy"
---
Dabi would be such a good dad you cannot tell me otherwise.
I mean sure, some times he forgets things, that you have school the next morning, and most days he feels like shit for not being able to rent a proper apartment to house you in; forcing you to live in this tiny cupboard of drywall and rotten carpet because he simply can’t afford better. Yeah sure, he sometimes loses his temper and tells you to go wait in your room when he has his "coworkers" over or when the bad man is on TV. But the moment he sees discomfort, prickles of tears in your eyes
He will shut the ever loving fucking up and back away.
But I think what makes him the best dad is his undying will to protect you, usually from himself. He'll lock himself in his own room or take it out on civilians and other villains before even thinking about coming to you in such a god awful state.
however it's also important to note that he'd do just as heinous things if he finds something that's more of a threat then himself. AKA, Endeavor.
(I just realized that by typing the rest of this paragraph, I'd be spoiling the plot of part three, forget I ever said anything.)
So rather than speaking of the devil we'll talk about how much of a worrywart Dabi actually is at heart.
He spends every single waking minute, and every unconscious second, to worry about you. This man lives in constant paranoia. Truly, deep down in his heart he wants to bundle you up in bubble wrap and tuck you under 10 blankets so you'll never be cold. So it's quite unfortunate that he can never quite express these feelings to you or anyone for that matter, trauma and internalized fear of emotional vulnerability and all that.
As a result, he will often express this through odd gestures of- I'm not quite sure what exactly it is.
What he'll do is he'll stare at you for prolonged periods of time, memorize your every schedule, demand to know all your friends, he emails your teachers once a week at least to ask them about your academic and social whereabouts. Everyone thinks he's a helicopter parent, no, he's a fucking psychopath.
he might as well have a GPS tracker on you. of course you barely get a say in this. he's your darling father, he's been like this since you were born, he only does it because he loves you and wants to keep you safe. he doesn't want to hurt you, even if he does, he's always apologized right after.
Dabi is also a cheapskate. the world's greatest in fact. despite the IRS never collecting his taxes he will forever never have enough money, he spends most of his "paycheck" the money stolen from innocent civilians on your college funds. He fully plans on starting a new life in Europe after All For One takes over and enrolling you into a top college so you can get your education (that is if the educational system is still intact.)
this is also why he is a Dumpster Diver and Pro Thriftier on the weekends! Everything, and I mean everything, is probably vintage and from goodwill. I have nothing else to say about that.
However, this did cause you to be heavily bullied and ostracized at school. A school in the pretty subarubs of japan where everyone's parent were either middle class or above, where you, you came from a different district, with the worn down shoes and the badly done hair, so excited to meet your new classmates. And it's quite sad really, never having many friends and all that. Especially if you aren't fully Japanese and were of color. (shout out to all my POC readers!)
and of course this wouldn’t be a proper story without Dabi being a little shit, but that's the thing about Dad Dabi, he is never a little shit in front of his child. never had been and probably never will be. It primarily roots from this need of an acutal father figure that he never had (endeavor was more so a mentor and teacher and, of course, abuser rather rthan an actual father to him).
he's nothing but serious around you, hell, he barely even talks, only ever grunts and hums in response to whatever you're saying so you know that he's listening to you. you may think he doesn't care, but he remembers it all as best he can, scribbles it down in broken grammar on the back of newspapers because he can’t afford a proper phone nor nice clean printerpaper.
Honestly, Dabi's a good father. But he's heavily insecure about it, he truly wants to lock you up in a castle like the princess you are to him and keep you there until the ends of time.
And on a simmilair note, he refuses to let you became a "bad" person.
AKA, someone who doesn't respect others, someone who cusses a lot, someone that doesn't show gratidute when given something good in their life. the reason he does it is because he refuses to see the current version of himself in you, he refuses to even think about you being tainted. Refuses. In his deluded mind that version of you can never exist lest they kill him.
He's genuinely the most strict helicopter parent to ever parent.
I'm talking monitors you 24/7, enrolls you in every after school club with even the tiniest bit of academic advancement (chess club, book club, math team), and he sits down with you every night to work through homework, he only ever buys nutritious meals for you; even though they take up the majority of his budget, and he only eats after you've eaten, drowning himself in the shitty dollar menu fast food.
Of course, he rewards you heavily for your hard work. Every day, he praises you for all that you’ve accomplished,
“Aww, good job honey.”
“A+, very nice.”
“You got a B? Oh, you thought you’d get an A? It’s okay, I know you tried. a B is good too.”
It not the most encouraging thing in the world but he wants your to know that he cares, he’ll takes you out for ice cream at the end of every month and give you an allowance to spend 10 dollars for every A on your report card. (This takes a huge bite out of his budget, but he made you a promise… he can skip out on dinner a couple nights, it’ll be fine.)
so far, you've been doing so well in school, one of the best students in your school, one of the more kind and respectful too. it's just that... you're so shy, you practically cower in fear when you have to talk to your classmates, especially after the incident. (Part 3, anyone?)
Dabi also puts this persona on for you, this persona of a kind man who is just a tad bit odd looking. he puts on the facade of being a normal civilian with a stable job and okay-ish income just so you don't worry. With you, he’s soft and trustworthy and only wants the best for you. Even if he does make you upset, he says sorry afterwards, always. He loves you, at least, that’s what he tells you.
And though it's not something he really worries about now, he dreads the day you become a teenager, then you'll know why he spends his nights out when there's criminals on the lose, who fears the day you'll understand what the news means, the day you'll take the hero's side. He just doesn't have the resources to keep you hidden from the outside world long enough for this wretched war he's fighting to be over. For the mean time, he denies you of much context on what he actually does all day, it's quite easy to do such a thing; he only ever needs to divert your attention to something shiny or pretty, like those little unicorn toys that he bought you for your second birthday, bought them brand new unlike many of the other things he's gotten you over the years. But he doesn’t know how much longer he can keep this up for, you’re smart, incredibly so, it’s only a matter of time until you know who he actually is,
another thing that he fears is of you growing up, caring for a small child is one thing, but he fears the day that you'll become a complex human being capable of properly understanding your emotions and failing to understanding that he truly wants the best for you.
he'll sit in the darkness of the living room some nights, you tucked neatly away on the other side of the couch, fast asleep, you never could finish a movie night without falling asleep half way through. his breathing's heavy as he runs his mind through the thousands upon thousands of theoretical fights you two'll have when you get older. How you’ll want to distance yourself, how you’ll cry yourself to sleep some nights because you think he doesn’t love you. he can't handle it, he won't stand to be your enemy.
because one day, you'll be an adult, you'll want to leave him, and you'll never come back. he can't live with that, he simply won't. he sometimes thinks about killing himself so he won't live to see the day you no longer want him in your life.
OR, OR, ALTERNATIVELY.
ProHero Dad Dabi.
I have been thinking about Dabi's ProHero Au since forever now. think teenage father Dabi but he got a girl pregnant the moment he's out of high school. (those after graduation parties be crazyyyy) and now he genuinely doesn't know how to balance his home life and his career and his daughter.
and obviously, just obviously, he CANNOT tell his father, he's already worse than Shoto, he's not gonna go lower on the scale.
so despite being the highest climbing amateur Hero in the past 7 years, he takes the longest hiatus of his life just to figure all this father shit out. his first plan was to but the girl up for adoption, and then he realized it would fail the moment the media find out, then he thought maybe he could tell one of his friends to take care of her, one of the ladies who'd fallen head over heels for him back in high school, he'd charm them, marry them, and then make em' into a house wife to take care of his mistake child.
honestly, it was a pretty good idea until he truly did start to love his child. similar to the main timeline, ProHero Dabi realizes he wants to be a better father than the one he grew up with, he decides to keep the child and raise her as his own, etc.
But in this timeline, literally everything is reversed.
Dabi's loaded with that money that the government gives him or fighting off a couple measly thugs, pair that with the brand deals he gets offered every other minute, and the trust fund his daddy gave him to get him through the "rough years" as he called it, he's practically rolling in cash.
oh God, you are going to be such a brat growing up. Life handed to you on a silver spoon is nice. I'm talking luxury clothes, top private schools, an allowance bigger than the gods. and Dabi did It all cuz' he loves you.
and the media goes HAM over a teenage ProHero that already looks like a villain having a daughter with a stranger! the press goes wild over it, but the whole time, Dabi covers your little tiny face with his hand so the flashes of the cameras don't frighten you and calmly explains that he will not be taking any questions. he holds you tight to his chest the whole time.
But you know who as the most furious? ENJI. big guy cussed out Touya for 3 hours straight all while holding you, at first the refused to give his son any right to hold you let alone raise you! In Enji's eyes, his son is the most malicious thing to ever grace this planet, he drinks, he smokes, he has ten thousand tattoos and piercings along his burn marks to match, Dabi's essentially the devil, and he's not going to let him get anywhere close to his first ever grandchild and possible child prodigy that he can turn into his puppet! Rei and Fuyumi had to step in and try and convince Enji to let Dabi have you rather than file to take full custody of you with the promise if Dabi even showed hints of negligence towards you, he can take his son to court.
okay that the end of my rant. and please let me know if you want to know more about pro hero Dabi from me.

stay forever - jake debrusk
summary: the real reason jake was scratched against l.a. on october 21.
word count: 2.9k
note: have been absolutely fascinated by him pulling a tyler seguin for 9 months and started this fic back in october...
An emptiness overwhelmed Juliet’s house as it always did when her parents had returned back to Connecticut. It was a purchase she regularly regretted—three bedrooms more than one person needed and more living spaces than she could ever fill—but people had gotten to her with their constant comments about needing to grow up. Needing to prepare for a family.
She hoped that her future husband would appreciate its location on the Pacific Coast Highway because that wasn’t something she regretted.
For the time being, she owned a very unnecessarily large house which she only lived in part time when her filming schedule allowed. She spent a lot of time on her own waiting for company to arrive.
Juliet’s company for the evening was someone she didn’t see very often at all—mostly when he was in California for work, or when she visited her parents—but someone she always wanted to see more often than she could.
She sat down at her kitchen bar, a poorly made cocktail sitting in front of her, and her feet swinging around the base of the chair as she waited for Jake to arrive at her door. By the time the GPS tracker was outside her house, her drink was empty, and she was filled with nervous excitement. She waited by the intercom, no longer embarrassed to open the gate the second he pressed the buzzer, and then opened the front door to wait for him to walk up her driveway.
“That drive feels longer every time,” Juliet told him, reaching for his belt buckle as soon as he was in reach so that she could tug him closer until they were chest-to-chest.
With the door closed and the car disappearing out of the gate, he nodded, saying, “I think I learnt the entire history of the Pacific Coast Highway.”
“I can send a car to pick you up,” she reminded him as she did every time he was in California.
“But how would I know that The Beach Boys released a song about it in 2012? Or the Australian pop punk band who mentioned it in one of their songs? Or—”
“I get it,” Juliet cut him off, still leading him through the house with her hands on his belt. “You like facts about the Highway. Music about the Highway, specifically.”
Before he could get any more words out, Juliet pressed her mouth to his, still keeping him close with her hands on his belt.
They had the whole afternoon together—the whole night—which was a luxury that they were rarely afforded, and Juliet was overwhelmed by all the things they could do together. As was usually the case when near Jake, she never got any further than an arm’s length away.
The Pacific Ocean stretched out beyond Juliet’s balcony as they sat and watched the waves roll onto the shore beneath them. Being cuddled up under the warm afternoon sun was more than she could ask for. She fit so naturally in the space between Jake’s legs, her back pressed against his chest and his fingers hiding underneath the hem of her cropped shirt and across her rib cage.
There wasn’t much to talk about that they hadn’t already spoken about in their daily phone calls or their frequent texts, but the silence wasn’t so bad. Just being with each other, in each other’s space, pressed up against each other on her surprisingly comfortable outdoor couch was enough. Juliet caught him just smiling at her on more than one occasion. It was nice to just see him in person rather than on a phone screen.
The sun had sunk below the horizon, leaving behind the pink sky Juliet so adored about Malibu. She looked over her shoulder at Jake and melted into the instantaneous kiss.
“Do you want dinner? Abbey made you the chicken one you said you liked last time. The one that fit with your nutrition plan?”
Jake’s forehead came to rest against the back of hers. He asked, “You remembered that?”
“I wrote it down and you hadn’t said your plan had changed. I hoped.”
Her fingers started to tap against her ribs.
“God, I need her to be in Boston to be my chef.”
“I can ask her if she wants to,” Juliet said without hesitation.
“Do you come with her?” he asked, his mouth pressed against the back of Juliet’s neck. “Because the only person I want to move to Boston is you.”
Juliet hummed. She didn’t want to rehash the conversation they’d had all summer, not on their first night together since he left for training camp. She’d thought about moving back to New England, about being closer to her parents and her sister, about being closer to Jake. Her house might have been too large for just her, but it was a better alternative than uprooting herself for a relationship where they hadn’t even said they love each other after nearly twelve months.
Her sister’s commentary about them being unable to say the L word because they spent too much time apart always fell on deaf ears.
“Jake—Jake,” Juliet panicked, shaking his shoulder viciously. “Jake. Your alarm didn’t go off.”
He woke all at once, a violent flail sending his limbs in all directions as he sat up. His first instinct was to reach for his phone on the bedside table; his phone that wasn’t there.
Typically, on the rare occasions when they woke up in the same bed, Juliet was wrapped up in his arms before she’d even woken up and before either of them even thought about getting out of bed there was slow, lazy, but oh-so-good, morning sex and a healthy amount of cuddling.
That morning, though, she watched him launch out of bed so quickly he nearly tripped over the top sheet he didn’t take time to remove. She couldn’t fault him.
She tried not to follow him around the bedroom too closely as he dressed, nor throughout the rest of the house, but she found herself picking up things that fell out of his overnight bag and slotting them back in gingerly.
It was the lack of speaking that was the most unnerving. Jake wasn’t a typically angry person, in fact Juliet couldn’t recall a time where she’d seen him mad, but the heavy footsteps and the tension in everything he did made her hesitant to speak.
On the kitchen counter downstairs, next to an empty bottle of red, was Jake’s phone which he swiped off the counter with such fervour that it crashed to the floor, causing Juliet to recoil. Jake didn’t seem to notice.
Standing in just the shirt she’d managed to throw on, Juliet kept her distance as Jake scooped up his phone and ordered an Uber. If Juliet were to be petty, she’d have mentioned that if he’d let her organise a car then none of this would have happened. Except, she wasn’t petty, nor was she interested in stoking fires, so she stretched out the bottom of her shirt as she nervously wrung it through her hands.
The silence remained until Jake looked like he was readying to leave, standing up from where he’d been leaning across the island and texting furiously. He didn’t look away from the screen.
“I’ll see you after the game,” Juliet said, tentative to break the silence but not at all wanting to let him leave without saying anything at all.
Jake scoffed, “I’m not gonna play so don’t even bother.”
Juliet stepped towards him, the space reducing to only a couple of paces, reaching out to him with her eyebrows pulling together. She asked, soft, scared, “What? Why? Are you injured?”
“I’m late, Juliet,” he snapped, still not looking up from his phone. “They’re not gonna let me play.”
“Oh, well, I’ll still come,” Juliet said, harried. While she was relieved that he wasn’t keeping injuries from her, her brain was reeling to create a solution. “Maybe I can talk to somebody and tell them I had an emergency—”
“Don’t do that. Whatever you fucking do, do not do that.”
“Okay… I don’t have to do that.”
Jake used the buzzer to open the gate to let the Uber driver in and Juliet’s eyes began to well up with tears as she heard it get closer to the house. Their perfect night shattering before her eyes was creating a tightness in her chest she hadn’t felt in years.
She reached out to him, despite him being too far away, and asked, desperately, “I’ll see you after the game, though?”
“Sure, whatever you want, Juliet.”
“Jake.”
He didn’t respond, only pulled open the front door as the Uber stopped in front of it.
Juliet, panicked and incapable of thinking anything else, ran to him and gripped the loose sleeve of Jake’s hoodie and said, “I love you.”
“Okay.”
He didn’t so much as look at her before he shrugged her off, got into the Uber and closed the door, his phone immediately pressed to his ear.
It wasn’t the confession she’d imagined, that was for sure.
Juliet had considered cancelling her car and watching the game from her couch. Through the entire process of getting ready—which was getting longer and longer every day as the comments she was seeing got worse and worse with every second she aged—she stared at her phone for any sign of Jake. Whether he was going to beg her to show up or tell her to not come at all, she wanted something. She got nothing.
Sitting at her kitchen island, staring at the ugly painting her agent had bought her to congratulate her on an Oscar nomination the year prior, she didn’t think she’d ever felt more pathetic—and losing that Best Actress Oscar when it was universally agreed that she would win was the previous champion for that category.
With the car arriving shortly to pick her up, Juliet knew she had made an unconscious decision to go to the game. She had her jersey across her lap, the 74 hidden, and was the least excited she’d ever been for a hockey game.
As with every public appearance, Juliet made sure she was at least able to fake a smile before she got out of the car. Oliver, her driver, was her greatest confidant and the best secret keeper she knew. He’d seen her in some truly horrible states and, while it may have just been the ironclad NDA, not even her agent or PR manager had heard about the worst breakdowns. She was hugely grateful for him and the minor adjustments he suggested to make her seem realistically happy.
It was always a while before she was noticed at games; most people weren’t in the target demographic for her movies, and those that were weren’t expecting her to be there, so she was able to walk the concourse, get a beer and sit down before the whispers and photos started. She wasn’t hidden with centre-ice, bench-side seats and it was only a matter of time before the camera operators found her—she stood out enough being the only yellow jersey in a sea of black without being famous.
She shouldn’t have gone alone was her main takeaway before the first period even started. She’d never had the problem before, but never before had she felt a dull ache in her chest and never before had she so desperately wanted a buffer.
It wasn’t until the beginning of the second, when LA scored their first goal, that Juliet’s face was plastered across the screens. It was, at least, a good enough reason for being caught looking as miserable as she felt. She smiled, nonetheless, throwing her hands up into the air as if to ask what can you do and also to show everyone that she was wearing what she deemed to be the correct jersey. Even if they booed her for it.
The texts that started coming through weren’t a surprise. It wasn’t unheard of that someone she knew was also at the game, though they were much more likely to be rooting for the Kings and in a box where they wouldn’t be bothered.
Juliet made a point to not pull out her phone until intermission because too many people had opinions on her not paying attention when she was out anywhere, and she didn’t need to give them anymore ammo. So, she waited until she was standing in line for another beer before she pulled it out of her pocket. Most of the texts she ignored because they were from people she never really spoke to asking her to get drinks after the game, one was from her sister with a tweet mentioning her being at the game which she reacted to with a thumbs down, and, finally, one from Jake.
He had been scratched, just as he said he would be, and the text was almost definitely sent at the exact time she was shown on the screen.
Thanks for still coming. Will you hang around after?
She sent back a text and closed her phone, ready to order another beer and ignore her phone for the final period.
Do you want me to?
Yes. Course I do.
It was something. That’s what Juliet was forcing herself to think, anyway.
Juliet didn’t need much to get past security; not when someone had come for her. It meant that, despite Jake’s disinterest in her being there that morning he hadn’t gone to the trouble of calling off her escort.
Her way down to the locker rooms was filled with people stopping her for photos. It wasn’t like her to deny people, and she hadn’t any other time she’d been caught at a hockey game, but she had somewhere to be and when she didn’t know exactly what was waiting for her.
There was no Family Room for her to wait in, unless she wanted to crash the Kings’ room uninvited and face more questions than she’d already been hounded with that night, so she bravely stood in the hallway unaccompanied as she waited for the coach to address the team and for Jake to be free enough to come and meet her. The few very confused Kings staff and partners she passed were to be expected, at least.
Juliet was ready to open up her burner account and search her own name in Twitter—she was already in a bad enough mood that any comments she read about her cellulite or the confusion about her cellulite when she was allegedly too skinny after her last role couldn’t do any further damage—when the visitor’s locker room door opened with a groan. Jake had the decency to look sheepish, repentant, when he stepped out. He didn’t look at anybody but Juliet as he crossed the hall to meet her.
“Thank you,” he said, his voice low and shy. “For still coming. I don’t think I would have if I was you.”
“I nearly didn’t,” she admitted, trying to act cool when she knew that she could only look as desperate as she felt. “You really hurt me, Jake.”
“Yeah, I—I know, Juliet. I shouldn’t have taken any of that out on you.”
The door opened again, the agonising groan rattling whatever small amount of composure Juliet had been able to pull together, and she looked down at her feet.
Jake closed the gap between them, making room for the wave of people to exit the locker room, and Juliet put hand on his chest to steady herself at the unexpected movement—she hadn’t realised how good it would feel to touch him and felt herself lean ever closer.
“Do you have to stick around? Or can we go somewhere a little less noisy?”
“I have to get on the bus, Jules,” he said, his head lowering. He put his hand over hers on her chest to keep her close. “I want to go back to Malibu. I don’t want to sleep by myself in a hotel room when you’re in the same city…”
Juliet sighed. “But you had one chance.”
He started to look around and Juliet knew he was looking for somewhere more private for them. He opted for slightly around a corner, not quiet by any means but at least out of the thoroughfare. Juliet was long past being caught in a compromising position with anybody—and, truth be told, any positions she’d been caught in were hardly scandalous and all with serious partners—so she wasn’t worried about effectively being boxed in against the wall, with Jake leaning down to talk to her.
“God, I’m sorry,” he whispered. “None of it was your fault; you didn’t deserve to be treated like that. I love you and I treated you like shit.”
She tilted her chin down and looked up at him sheepishly through her eyelashes as she asked, “You love me?”
Jake’s laugh was abrupt and aborted just as suddenly as it started, the realisation that it was not the right time was clear on his face. “Well, yeah. Yes, Juliet. I don’t think that should be the thing that gets me over the line, though.”
“I’m still really mad at you,” Juliet said, even as she slipped her arms around his waist. “But I think I’m just going to enjoy you while I have you.”
Juliet was delighted to share a photo sent to her by her sister of her and Jake leaving Honda Center hand-in-hand, mostly so she could caption it ‘I want to be @/taylorswift when I grow up’.
She was even more delighted when less than ten minutes later she opened up Jake’s story to see that he’d reposted it with a caption that just said ‘same’.

“I’m not sure if I find what you did genius or outright stupid.” Natasha looked at her with narrowed eyes. The words carried a heavy judgment cloaked behind feigned indifference.
“Your plan was so risky.”
“What plan?” Yelena’s words were met with another – mocking – rebuttal of the redhead. A clear display of disdain. It was a challenge. One that was heightened through the brazen raise of her younger sister’s brow.
“I’m doing this for you. So you can have the adventure you longed for,” Y/N told them, tense. Squaring her jaw, she glared at the two younger siblings. “All I have been doing is so you can have a piece of the freedom you so crave, to give you what you deserve.”
Her focus shifted to Yelena alone, “But in case you haven’t noticed, we aren’t at home where we are well protected. We are in a lot of potential danger here. Taking it lightly and ignoring what could happen is not the way to go. Carelessness is nothing we can afford.”
Yelena pressed her lips to a tight line, the corners of her mouth pulling downwards. Silence spread over them. Uneasy, dense silence, as her words had reached a far deeper place in them. Each one turned to their own internal conflict and thoughts.
“What are we going to do then? What's our plan?” Natasha spoke up after a long bout, causing Y/N to sigh.
“Stay, for now. Try to come up with a way to get the car working. Leave before the end of the week.”
“And what if there is no way to get the car running again?” Yelena piped up. It conjured another bout of silence between the three of them. None the wiser.
It was the question of a very real problem they could stumble into. Having the car stay in the cold for days surely wouldn’t enhance its viability. Without the car, their chances dropped drastically close to zero. Maybe they could try to steal their host's car, yet she would rather do anything than betray their kindness like that.
It was Natasha who spoke up, offering a different solution. “Then we give up our location.” Two pairs of eyes turned towards the redhead, confusion shining in them, neither knowing what she was insinuating.
“What do you mean?”
“The car. You didn’t think he gave us a regular one, did you? It’s an official state car.” Natasha leaned forward on her knees, a smile pulling at her lips as her eyes twinkled, “Made to blend in with civilian ones, bulletproof but more importantly equipped with a GPS tracker.”
“How do you know that?”
The redhead shrugged, even as her older sister looked at her warily. She had a distinct feeling that her sister would not give her an answer, no matter how much she kept poking. Perhaps it was best she didn’t know. Her sister had her mysterious ways to obtain information and it was best it stayed that way.
Revealing their location to their keepers and guards was a possibility but one they had to consider carefully. They’d have to do a lot of explaining in that case. At the same time it was reassuring to know, should they fail, there was another failsafe solution.
“How is the GPS tracker going to help us?” Yelena wanted to know crossing her arms.
“It has a button to send out a distress signal–”
“No.” She interrupted immediately. “Not a chance. We are not going to do that.”
“What why?” Both younger sisters looked at her in shock, Yelena seemed to contemplate if she had actually lost her mind.
“Because we do not want to create a political conflict! How will it look if we send a distress signal from outside of Sokovia’s borders?” No, they couldn’t do that. It would create a war with both sides believing the other to have started it with an act of aggression. But that also meant their failsafe option wasn’t so failsafe anymore. In fact, it wasn’t an option anymore. “We have to get the car going.”
Simultaneously they released a heavy sigh as Yelena slumped backward. She turned her head towards the ceiling and grumbled under her breath. “... aren’t mechanics…” Natasha seemed to be less defeated, still trying to be optimistic and even more so trying to work with what they had.
"Alright. Assuming we get the car going again. How are you planning to tell the boys we won’t be accepting the offer to travel with them? They think we are refugees.”
“Where’d they even take that conclusion from?” Yelena butted in, looking back down.
“Oh you know because ‘the future heir of our bordering enemy country and her two sisters trying to have a vacation’ is the most logical conclusion if you ran into three lost girls in the woods by night.” Natasha snipped with a roll of her eyes.
“Hey!” The redhead and the blonde looked at her, both pressing their lips together as they at least tried to look apologetic. “Fighting between each other is the last thing we should do right now.
It’s really not that far-fetched for them to have come to this conclusion. We were secretive and reserved, I bet we looked pretty spooked to them. Stranded, lost, wandering around.
Remember everything we were told about Brooklyn? I am now convinced that most of it was blatant lies and if we got dished up lies, who’s to say they weren’t fed an equal amount of bullshit about Widovia?”
It was entirely feasible for their views to have been clouded by lies. Who wouldn’t try to make their enemies look worse? There was no blame to be held. She’d been told those lies, she’d believed those lies just as Steve and his friends had believed the things they’d been told. How could you know a lie was a lie if it was the only thing you were ever told? How was a bird to know there was life outside the cage it was born in if it had never left the cage?
“As for that,” she replied with a heavy sigh, “We’ll have to lie to them I fear. Say we want to stay here in the village.” She felt crushed thinking about the inevitable lie that would have to roll over her lips.
Something in the deepest parts of her heart screamed and rebelled just thinking about being untruthful to Steve. There was the duty she had to her sisters and her home, it demanded certain deeds be done. Yet it couldn’t lift the dreadful feeling.
“We still have some time until then.” Natasha spoke, the softest she had spoken in a while, as she looked at her big sister. It brought a smile to Y/N’s otherwise weary, tired lips.
For the first time since waking up, she felt lighter and not worried. Those feelings of weightlessness transcended her sisters, and soon they fell into a relaxed and animated talk about unimportant things.
For the first time since arriving here, it felt like somewhat of a vacation. The feeling didn’t wane as the boys came walking out of the kitchen. They’d shooed the girls out after breakfast, denying any help to tidy up the kitchen.
Sam and Bucky’s shirts were marked with countless wet spots. It looked like they had fought a battle instead of doing the dishes. The suds clinging to Sam’s jaw emphasized this observation once more. A smile crept across her lips as she saw the damp strands of blonde hair hang over Steve’s forehead, suds and bubbles clinging to the tufts. It was blatant that he had been caught in the crossfire or partaken, perhaps even instigated it, judging by the sly smile creeping onto his lips after she crooked her head in question.
The early morning talk during breakfast had cleared up any ill feelings or off vibes, yet it still surprised her as the three men spread out in between them, taking their seats on the couches. Steve sank down into the spot beside her, his weight curving the cushions down. Gravity pulled her towards him, their legs and shoulders touching as she was pressed to his side. Bucky and Sam suited themselves beside her sisters, which especially in Bucky’s case felt weird to see. The brunette and the redhead eyed each other from the corners of their eyes, briefly nodding before they turned back front and tried to stay as casual as possible. Observing made her snort quietly, it felt somewhat awkward and shy, something she couldn’t say she had ever seen Natasha be.
“You didn’t flood anything, did you?” Yelena spoke up, eyeing the wet spots on their clothes with amusement and mocking. “I didn’t pack any Bikinis.”
It caused them all to laugh. To properly laugh. The mixture of voices made her heart beat faster, happier. And as she watched Sam and Bucky interact with her sisters, she understood what Steve had said to her about his friends the night before.
“Rest assured the kitchen is dry. You won’t get wet unless you decide to go swimming in the lake outside.”
Bucky scoffed at that, “You’d have to break the ice before.”
“Don’t make it sound like that’s such a challenge.”
“That ice is thick enough to skate and play hockey on, bird brain. I’d like to see you try to break it.”
“You can’t play hockey on ice.” Yelena muttered, looking at the bickering males in confusion. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her lips pulled down. It was her characteristic pout, a face she had only ever seen her younger sister pull with Natasha or her.
"Yes, you can.” Sam argued against it, pausing to eye her thoughtfully. “Don’t tell me you have never witnessed ice hockey.”
“Well, I haven’t. It sounds fake.” The indignation and sureness in Yelena’s voice amused her, but what made her crack was Sam and Bucky’s dumbfounded looks. They’d obviously hadn’t reckoned for Yelena to be serious.
She wasn’t the only one highly amused at this, as Steve let out a snort. Quickly he tucked his chin towards his chest, hiding his face. His shaking shoulders betrayed him.
Sam and Bucky jumped into a scandalized, in-depth explanation of ice hockey, supported by dramatically frantic hand gestures, yet all she could focus on was Steve beside her, still chuckling to himself in glee.
“Is your sister always so straightforward?”
“Oh, you haven’t experienced half of it. This is only the tip of the iceberg. She’s unforgivingly blunt.”
“Seems like she is quite the firecracker.”
“She is. She definitely is.”
Together they glanced at the scene unfolding on the opposite couch. It was a funny sight, seeing Sam and Bucky so determined to convince Yelena of the sport.
“But have you ice skated before? Do you know what skates are? You know shoes that look like they have knives strapped to their bottom?” Sam lifted his foot and mimicked what was supposed to be the blades a skate possessed. Yelena scoffed in revolt.
“Yes I have, I didn’t grow up under a rock! We have ice skating in Widovia, you dumbass.”
“Ice skating is a national sport.” Natasha piped in to stop Yelena from getting worked up even more. “Every child knows how to skate.” “So you can skate?” Bucky asked to confirm, a teasing lilt to his words. Yelena and Natasha nodded in unison.
“There is no one better at ice skating than Nat.” “Now that I’d like to see. No one has been able to best Bucky before.” A rumbling went through the crowd at Sam's contest. Steve let out a long ‘ohhh~’ beside her, causing her to glance at him. The silliness of the situation made her smile. For the first time, she saw Bucky grin widely. It had a wicked nuance to it, haughty and blinding as he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees.
“There is only one way to find out,” he drawled, more or less challenging.
“I hope you are ready to land on your ass,” the redhead told him, smirking and cocking a brow at him. Another wave of ‘oohs’ sounded
“I don’t think we have any skates in the lodge.” Steve noted, drawing the attention towards him. Four pairs of eyes landed not only on him but also on her. Some were more subtle than others in the way they eyed the close proximity between the two. The sly grin blossoming on Natasha’s lips told her she wouldn’t hear the end of her teasing. “There might be a pair or two from when we were kids, don’t think they’ll fit anymore.”
“Yelena has tiny feet, I bet we could get her shoved into a pair.” The youngest of the three sisters shot her a dirty glare, underlined with a pout. It made her snicker.
“We can surely rent some from the ice rink in town.” Sam noted.
“You’ll also need some other clothes. Something warmer and thicker,” Bucky noted, eyeing the girls. Their clothes - while still wintery - were not made to stay outside for longer periods of time. Neither were they suited to keep them dry. Even if, they couldn’t keep wearing the same things for the rest of the week.
Empty and quiet lay the room, shrouded in mostly darkness. From the carpeted wooden hallway just outside the drag of steps drawing closer could be heard. The shadow of a pair of feet appeared below the crack of the door, the even mix of voices however pointed to more than one person.
The key being inserted into the lock sounded of a metallic nature, reminiscent of the old brass keys used in castles and historic buildings dating centuries back, it wasn’t much younger than any of those, so it was fitting. With 3 resounding clicks as the key turned the mechanism inside, the lock gave way. The bronze handle moaned in complaint to operate after many years of neglect. A beam of light pushed its way through the larger growing slit of the door opening. Particles of dust danced in the brightness.
Then, a loud sneeze.
“Bless you,” Yelena chimed in from further back in the hallway, largely unbothered by the thick layer of dust that had been disrupted. Steve, at the front of the crowd and the one to have opened the door, wasn’t as lucky. He rubbed at the underside of his nose with the knuckle of his pointer, sniffling and squinting into the room. “It’s, ugh, a bit dusty,” he mumbled the obvious.
“When’s the last time anyone was in there?” Bucky asked, leaning against the wall just by the door, peering over Steve’s shoulder at the room full of treasures. Treasures, not in worth but in memory.
There came no answer from Steve. He couldn’t say but he knew it was too long. Glancing back at Bucky, no words had to be said for the Brunette to understand. They hadn’t been back here since he’d lost his mother.
Sam eyed the pair of them, he could feel their hesitancy to take the necessary step forward. Sentiment and memories, feelings not yet felt fully held them back. So he made the step for them. He rounded Steve, setting the first foot into the room. And then another one. And another one after that, until he reached the window at the far back of the room, between shelves, drawers, and other things. The handle of the window creaked as much as the door had, yowling under the sudden movement, protesting in a not-so-silent plea.
At once unfiltered sunlight streaked into the room. The light greedily stretched out until it illuminated every speck and nook it could reach. Crisp, fresh air followed, pouring in much slower but steadily it swapped out the stale air.
“Gotta give whatever we find in here a good wash first,” Sam said, standing in the middle and turning in all directions to examine the many things stored away.
“It’s not like there isn’t a perfectly fine washing machine just downstairs.” It was Bucky then that set foot into the room, eyeing the shelves with a mixture of curiosity and caution. Steve, who still stood at the door, turned towards the three girls in the hallway. They had followed but taking a polite distance.
His nod was what let Natasha and Yelena trickle into the room as well. Only she remained, examining the blonde closely. It hadn’t been his good manners that prompted Steve to yield, to let them enter first, it was the hesitancy to step into the room that glued him to his spot. One hand resting on the frame of the door, it seemed to have a mind of its own clutching the wooden work.
She reached out to him, her fingers barely brushing the fabric of his sweater on his back, when his eyes snapped to her. Clouded in emotions, he looked startled for a split second before he hung his head, smiling defeated and bashfully.
“It’s just a room.”
“Just a room,” she agreed with a hum.
Steve looked up at her in surprise. He hadn’t anticipated having her confirm his words, no less to have her sound so familiar with them. The hesitancy in him she’d recognize anywhere. It wasn’t hard to spy something she was so familiar with. Akin to what she had felt many times before.
Steve’s hand slowly loosened, pulling away from the door frame. He turned towards the door, shoulders bracing, and taking a deep breath. In his moment of preparation, his search for readiness, his hand once again evolved a life on its own.
Butterflies started to bloom in her stomach as Steve’s fingers brushed against hers. It was a faint touch, barely there and over as fast as it had happened. Those blue eyes of his glanced back at her, clear-headed once more.
“Hey Steve, do you have a clue where exactly those clothes are supposed to be? So we got a place to start looking?” Sam’s voice carried out of the room.
"Yeah, punk." We’ll be occupied for the rest of the week if not.” Bucky complained shortly after. It was no surprise he did, she understood as she followed Steve - at last - into the room.

How Much Does a Private Investigator Charge?
Private investigators are professionals hired to gather information, conduct surveillance, and solve complex cases ranging from personal matters like infidelity to corporate fraud. However, one of the most common questions people ask before hiring a private investigator is: How much does a private investigator charge? This guide will break down the costs associated with hiring a private investigator, including what factors influence their rates, different pricing models, and what you should expect based on the type of case.
1. Introduction to Hiring a Private Investigator
Private investigators offer a wide range of services, from conducting background checks to helping locate missing persons. Whether you’re dealing with a personal issue like divorce or a business matter involving corporate fraud, private investigators can provide crucial information that isn’t accessible through public channels.
While hiring a private investigator can be essential in many cases, it's equally important to understand the associated costs. Private investigator charges can vary depending on multiple factors, including the investigator’s experience, location, and the complexity of the case. Understanding these factors will help you make an informed decision.
2. Factors That Influence Private Investigator Charges
The cost of hiring a private investigator is not standardized and can fluctuate depending on several elements. Let’s take a look at some of the key factors that influence private investigator charges:
a. Location and Geographic Influence
Private investigator rates vary significantly based on location. In urban areas with a high cost of living, such as New York or Los Angeles, investigators tend to charge more due to increased expenses. Conversely, in smaller towns or rural areas, the rates may be lower.
b. Complexity of the Case
The complexity of the case has a direct impact on the cost. A simple background check or record search will likely cost less than conducting surveillance on a subject for several days. Cases that involve complex legalities or require special skills like digital forensics tend to be more expensive.
c. Level of Expertise and Experience
Private investigators with more experience often charge higher rates because they bring specialized skills and knowledge to the table. Highly skilled investigators who handle niche cases, such as corporate espionage or financial fraud, may demand a premium for their services.
d. Resources and Equipment Needed
The use of specialized equipment, such as GPS trackers, surveillance drones, or forensic software, can add to the total cost of hiring a private investigator. Complex cases requiring advanced technology will inevitably incur additional fees.
3. Hourly Rates for Private Investigators
The most common pricing model for private investigators is the hourly rate. Here’s an overview of what you can expect when paying by the hour:
a. Average Hourly Rates in Different Regions
Private investigators typically charge between $40 to $200 per hour. The rates vary based on geographic location, the investigator’s expertise, and the complexity of the case. In metropolitan areas, expect rates closer to the higher end of the spectrum, while smaller towns or rural areas may offer more affordable options.
b. How Rates Vary Based on Experience and Specialization
Entry-level private investigators may charge around $50 to $75 per hour, while seasoned investigators with a wealth of experience can charge upwards of $150 to $200 per hour. Specialists who work in areas like digital forensics or fraud investigation tend to charge more due to the technical nature of the work.
c. Typical Minimum Hours Required
Many private investigators require a minimum number of billable hours to take on a case. This minimum can range from 3 to 5 hours, especially for surveillance cases. It ensures that the investigator is compensated adequately for their time, even if the case is resolved quickly.
4. Flat Fee Structure for Private Investigators
In some cases, private investigators may offer a flat fee pricing structure, especially for simple, one-time tasks. Here’s how flat fees are structured and when they may apply:
a. Common Cases for Flat Fees
Private investigators often charge a flat fee for specific services such as:
Background checks: $100 to $500
Locating a person: $300 to $800
Record searches (court, criminal, or financial): $50 to $500
Flat fees are common when the task is straightforward and doesn’t require extensive time or resources.
b. Pros and Cons of Flat Fees vs. Hourly Rates
The advantage of a flat fee is that it gives the client a clear understanding of the cost upfront. This model is particularly appealing for clients with smaller, more predictable cases. However, for complex cases that may evolve over time, an hourly rate may be more appropriate, as the flat fee could become either too costly or insufficient to cover the work involved.
5. Retainers and Upfront Costs
Most private investigators, especially for longer or more complicated cases, require a retainer fee. This upfront payment serves as a deposit and is applied toward the investigator's work.
a. What is a Retainer?
A retainer is essentially a deposit that ensures the private investigator is compensated for their time and resources. It is particularly common for cases requiring surveillance or ongoing investigative work. Once the work begins, the investigator deducts their hourly fees from the retainer.
b. Typical Retainer Amounts
Retainers generally range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the case's complexity and duration. High-profile cases, such as corporate fraud or long-term surveillance, may require a larger retainer. Once the investigator’s work is complete, any unused retainer funds may be refunded, or if the work exceeds the retainer, the client may be billed for the remaining balance.
c. How Unused Retainer Amounts Are Handled
In cases where the investigation ends before the retainer is fully used, the remaining balance is typically returned to the client. This refund policy should be clearly stated in the contract to avoid any confusion.
6. Additional Costs to Consider
Beyond the standard hourly or flat fees, several other costs may arise during a private investigation. These additional expenses should be clarified before the investigation begins.
a. Travel Expenses
If the investigation requires the private investigator to travel, especially over long distances, the client may be charged for mileage, airfare, hotel stays, and meals. Travel expenses can add a significant cost, especially for investigations that span multiple cities or states.
b. Equipment Fees
Specialized equipment like surveillance cameras, night vision devices, and GPS trackers may incur additional fees. While these tools are necessary for specific cases, they can increase the overall cost of the investigation.
c. Report and Documentation Fees
After completing an investigation, private investigators usually provide a detailed report summarizing their findings. Some investigators charge a separate fee for this report, particularly if it requires compiling extensive documentation, video evidence, or photographic material.
7. Cost of Specialized Services
Private investigators offer a range of specialized services that come with varying price tags. Below are some examples:
a. Forensic Analysis
If a case requires digital forensics, such as recovering deleted emails or investigating cybercrime, expect to pay a premium. Forensic investigators often charge between $100 to $500 per hour, depending on the complexity of the task.
b. Legal Testimony
Private investigators are sometimes called upon to testify in court regarding their findings. This can incur additional costs, especially if the investigator needs to spend significant time preparing for the court case.
c. Surveillance Technology and High-Tech Tools
Cases that require the use of sophisticated technology—such as drones, high-resolution cameras, or software to hack into devices—come with a higher price tag. These services can range from $200 to $1,000 or more, depending on the equipment required.
8. Private Investigator Costs in Different Types of Cases
The type of case significantly affects how much a private investigator charges. Below are some common case types and their associated costs:
a. Corporate Investigations
For businesses dealing with fraud, embezzlement, or internal investigations, the cost can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the scale of the investigation. Corporate investigations often require a combination of surveillance, background checks, and forensic accounting.
b. Infidelity and Domestic Investigations
One of the most common reasons people hire private investigators is to confirm suspicions of infidelity. These cases typically range from $500 to $5,000, depending on how long the investigation takes and the geographic scope of the surveillance.
c. Missing Persons Cases
Private investigators charge between $1,000 to $5,000 for locating a missing person, depending on the complexity and duration of the search. Some investigators specialize in finding individuals using databases and contacts that are not accessible to the public.
9. How to Choose a Private Investigator Based on Cost and Quality
When selecting a private investigator, it’s crucial to strike a balance between cost and quality. Here are a few tips to ensure you get the most value for your money:
a. Check Credentials and Licensing
Make sure the investigator is licensed and has the necessary credentials. Unlicensed investigators may offer lower rates but could put you at risk of legal issues.
b. Ask for References and Read Reviews
Look for online reviews or ask the investigator for references. A reputable investigator should have a track record of successful cases and satisfied clients.
c. Be Clear About the Scope of Work
Before hiring, make sure you and the investigator are on the same page regarding the scope of the investigation. This will help you avoid unexpected costs or misunderstandings about the services provided.
10. Conclusion: What to Expect When Hiring a Private Investigator
Hiring a private investigator can provide invaluable insight and information, but it’s important to understand the costs involved. The cost of a private investigator varies based on the type of case, the investigator’s experience, and the location. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $200 per hour, with additional fees for specialized services, travel, and equipment.
By understanding the various factors that affect private investigator charges, you can make an informed decision that suits both your needs and your budget. Whether you’re dealing with a personal matter or a corporate issue, working with a reputable and skilled investigator can make all the difference in resolving your case.

Leverage Log: The Real Fake Car Job
Well with a title like that, im left wondering the syntactical ambiguity. Is this a job about a fake car that turns out to secretly be real, or was there a "fake" Fake Car Job that its being contrasted against? Guess we'll see. --- No way this show starts with mistaken identity, so im betting its Witnes Protection covering a criminal's ass like usual. --- Parker looks at this guy's track record of gettign in with the maffia as a get-out-of-jail freecard and just makes a note. --- Since when do libraries charge for wifi? --- Hardison should invest in like, a small trailer for behind lucille. Keep Lucile clean. --- Oh thats bad... the show is seeding the question of "can Nate live a normal life without these high-stakes heists all the time", which is not a good indicator of his surviving the season finale. --- So he's selling the free wifi to afford his mini-cars. (good scam, low level enough most people wont even bother, allow himself to continue his hobbies a little without getting authorities called on him. Its a good con. Small scale, practical.) This guy is good at being bad. --- So the fake car is the Mussolini's car, which is gonna turn out to be the actual car they're looking for by accident? Is that what the title is about? --- Parker sold the "doesnt know about cars but found the Musselcar in her gramps' shack" character well enough, but if she's meant to play the "doesnt actually know what cars are what" character, maybe throw in a line asking about the colour of "Phil's" Alpha Romeo --- Witness Protection Bodyguard's got a good play with the GPS Tracker on the phone. (is the serving tray a bug or is it a bomb? Who knows? At this point i dont see a reason it couldnt be both) --- So he calls his car friend, from his old life. His old life, laundering money for the Maffia. Guess who's about to be assasinated! --- Is it the Wifi Money? Couple months as a librarian, couple dozen people using the wifi a day on average... Maybe a couple other minor side-hustles round town, could really add up. Especially if he suspects Italian-Parker to be naive enough... (turns out im right, i stopped the episode the moment Hardison said he hadnt accessed any banks for the money) --- Oh God, Hardisons gonna kill this guy with the implication that this "strange artist fellow" bought his prize cars and dismantled them for art supplies. ("aquired at a government auction last year) Like i love the powerplay here, tell him I murdered your babies and if you dont stop me, This baby is next. Like this is full on Dubenich invoking Nate's Son levels of emotional manipulation. --- "are we being suspicious enough" You are buying garbagebags, Axes and shovels "dont use that rope, for future reference, you can chew right through it". Well thats ominous foreshadowing --- Oh... The bodyguard thinks Team Leverage are hitmen working for the Mark to kill HER. In her defence i could definitly see him do it, kill his handler, flee the country dig up his missing money abroad. --- "i did not sell out the Marshal Service so you could throw away all of our planning on a car". shit, she's not witness protection, SHE'S MAFFIA? Oh no she isnt maffia, she's just corrupt. (5 MIllion dollars... thats good money) --- Mobster- You called our mutual friend Charlie Corrupt Bitch- You're an idiot! Mob- Then we tracked you down cause you left your GPS tracking on CB!- Ok that one is on me. Honesty! --- So they're not even going to be taking down the maffia? (most episodes, they'd somehow end up pulling those guys down as well) But hey, the Maffia seems to genuinely respect Nate. (in their defence, they've seen the damage these guys do) --- I only knew three of the five. (car would drive him crazy, Access the accounts, Turn on babysitter. Those are the ones he knew. The car friend who got the Maffia involved are obviously the ones he didnt plan on) --- "we matter". Well, this entire episode about the looming threat of retirement ends on a sweet note. But dang if it isnt an ominous plotthread to add to the final season.

Y'know, after having a significant hand in implementing security measures and training of dozens of people to protect assets like money, merchandise, company documents, weed, and liquor I'm dumbfounded that we'd barely afford anything to protect our children. All the money in an armored truck is insured to the fraction of a cent and there's still at least one guy in there with body armor and a gun in there as well as an inch of steel and 360 CCTV and a GPS tracker. We'll have guys with stab vests and OC spray watching tee shirts at a mall keeping them from getting lifted by bone head teens, we'll have guys with long guns guarding gold bars that are nearly impossible to liquidate if stolen, we'll have someone with a pistol on their hip watching over a pawn shop and keeping an eye on everyone coming and going. But when it comes to protecting kids, something infinitely more valuable than anything else, we then fall upon worthless half measures like annoying drills, doors with locks that tenured teachers prop open because the district skimps on the AC, a camera system no one consistently monitors, or an unarmed off-duty cop/security guard who may have one foot in the grave anyways.
This is a fucking joke, it really is. I'm not saying to make a school into a full on prison (they're already halfway there through other means tbqh) but hire a security firm and get them to set up a proper armed guard staff and a properly monitored camera system and let your teachers carry their concealed firearms. This shit is basic, truly it is. If you want something protected you don't put big ass signs saying "no guards or guns in here : )" but that is what many schools and completed braindead individuals seem to want. These ghouls have no interest in actually protecting anyone at all as it does not serve their narrative to do so. To be exposed to the inconvenience that is actual physical security frightens these weak-minded individuals so much that they will do anything to avoid acknowledging the necessity of it. If you are not willing to go to any length to protect your child, up to and including killing one who means them harm then you are utterly unfit to be a parent. And if a teacher, someone who I trust the life of my child to for 8+ hours a day is unwilling to do that or have someone on hand who is then they should seek employment elsewhere as you are woefully inadequate for the task. There's plenty of openings at McDonald's where you don't need to protect anything aside from some fries and a till.
The average police response time is between 15-146 minutes depending in department size, the day itself, and if you ask most cops even the phase of the moon. The average reaction time of a human being to a threat is 4 seconds. Having an on-site security team, even of just a few people, and a well-briefed group of staff with concealed weapons can cut violent incidents like a school shooting, stabbing, gang attack, or what have you down to the nub in terms of damage done if not entirely deter the threat. This can be done, it IS attainable and will be of minimal disruption to daily operations just as it is when you go to a mall, a concert, or other public or private place that has some sort of security or loss prevention measures. Don't just do SOMETHING, because then you will find yourself swept up in doing SOMETHING STUPID as prompted by talking heads and billionaires looking to gobble up your rights and agency.
TL;DR: Protect our schools and our kids to the same degree we do money and other paltry things. Don't just ban guns and pray for the best like an idiot.
#firearms#guns#gun control#usually never rant like this but goddamn as someone who acts as a consultant this is frustrating
