Wilma Scarlet ⚔️
Parent: Will Scarlet
Parent’s Story: Adventure’s of Robin Hood and his Merry Men
Powerful Qualities: Strong, Adventurous, Flexible
Roommate: Ada Vogel
Secret Heart’s Desire: Because everyone thinks girls are damsels in distress, that means I’m one too. Jeez, it’s like I haven't been training to fight since before I could walk or something.
My “Magic” Touch: Like my dad, I’m a master swordsman. I can also ride horseback and I can survive in the woods for days.
Storybook Romance Status: It would have to be someone who is on the same wavelength as me. Someone who won’t hold me back just because I’m a girl you know?
“Oh Curses!” Moment: I tend to get lost in my training. I’ve also injured myself so many times, my mom is worried I’m going to cut something off in the future.
Favorite Subject: Heroics 101. It took a lot for me to prove that I belong in that class, and it takes a lot to stay in it. So I’m not giving up now.
Least Favorite Subject: Damsel in Distressing Class. It’s part of the deal I made with Headmaster Grimm. I can take Heroics if I take Damsel in Distress. I hate acting weak just to gain some boys' attention. It’s the worst.
Best Friends Forever After: Since our dads are all Merry Men, we’ve all grown up together. I’ve known all of them since we were kids, including Sparrow Hood and Alanna Dale. Darling Charming too. We sometimes practice together.

THE HOT MEDIEVAL & FANTASY MEN MELEE
FIRST ROUND: 70th Tilt
Adhemar, Count of Anjou, A Knight's Tale (2001) VS. Robin Hood, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
Propaganda
Adhemar, Count of Anjou, A Knight's Tale (2001) Portrayed by: Rufus Sewell Defeated Opponents: - Sir Bowen [Dennis Quaid], Dragonheart (1996)
“Okay, I get it, he's a terrible person. He cheats at jousting, he's mean to his herald, he ranks women somewhere below trophies and horses. But reader, I DON'T CARE. I can't help it. I admit that when I was younger (and perhaps more sensible) it was all about William/Ulric and his charming smile. But Adhemar... I would commit CRIMES for this man. Those eyes, the cheekbones, the glower! Do I think I could fix him? No. But, god, we could make each other worse!”
Robin Hood, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) Portrayed by: Errol Flynn Defeated Opponents: - High King Peter the Magnificent [Noah Huntley], The Chronicles of Narnia (2005-2010)
“In so many ways Errol Flynn is the blueprint for every Robin Hood that came after him—nobody should be able to make a cocky guy who laughs all the time likeable, yet Flynn brings so much charm you can't help but fall in love with him. He is truly a merry man, yet somehow not annoying, and his balance between caring deeply about the people affected by the taxes and his own lighthearted approach to life is just.... can anybody Robin Hood more than this Robin Hood? I don't think so.”
Additional Propaganda Under the Cut
Additional Propaganda
For Count Adhemar:
For Robin Hood:
“Look, I'm going to say it: we wouldn't have most of the men and media properties in this tournament if it weren't for Errol Flynn, his weaponizable charm, and the way his thighs look in tights.”
(+ Bonus Will Scarlett)

Herbert Mundin (The Adventures of Robin Hood, Cavalcade, David Copperfield)— There are so many scrungly actors in The Adventures of Robin Hood, but if I can only submit one of the Merry Men, I've gotta go with Much! He starts out the film showing us all how brave he is, standing up to Sir Guy and willing to die for what he believes. He even takes out King Richard's assassin (a man twice his size) single-handedly, even though he ends up getting pretty badly beaten in the process. He also has the most adorkable romance with Una O'Connor's Bess, where he shyly admits that he's never had a sweetheart, which endears him to us even more. I love the two of them together more and more with each viewing...and audiences must have too, because they made three movies together! His film career sadly only lasted from 1930-1939 when he was killed in a car crash at the age of 40, only a year after Robin Hood. :(
Asta Nielsen (Hamlet)— Hamlet is a classic scrungly little guy and Astra Nielsen playing him as a girl who has been raised as a boy is extra scrungly, the scenes where Hamlet is pretending to be in love Ophelia (while secretly in love with Horatio) are particularly awkward and endearing.
This is round 1 of the contest. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. If you're confused on what a scrungle is, or any of the rules of the contest, click here.
[additional submitted propaganda + scrungly videos under the cut]
Herbert Mundin:
youtube
I AM SO UPSET THAT THERE IS NO VIDEO OF HIM AND UNA O'CONNOR IN ROBIN HOOD THEY ARE SO CUTE
Asta Nielsen:
just look at her. pathetic sad goth girl pretending to be a boy. sighing and being hurt and learning terrible things at every turn. please I love her with my entire heart

Wiggy Wednesday🧠🪱 - A Robin (Buckley) Hood au
tagged by @just-my-latest-hyperfixation @shares-a-vest and @hotluncheddie Thanks guys!!! 💕🫂💝
continue-the-game tags at the bottom, you guys absolutely don't have to read this whole thing for it, it won't hurt my feelings cause this thing got long sgnxgnxnh
💚>> EDIT: @carolperkinsexgirlfriend expanded on the aro robin thing and its literal perfection!! <<💚
tbh the past few days ive felt like i was loosing my spark a bit (could be a medication thing now that i think about it) so the plans for today are to rewatch some really damn good motion pictures, feel some emotions probably, and go from there.
having said that, i was able to put together a fun little idea about Robin Stranger Things as Robin Hood, Steve and Little John, either Vickie or Chrissy as Maid Marian. Chrissy would fit the secretly badass princess type very well, thinking princess peach in the mario movie, while vickie would be slightyyy more tough girl princess, thinking fiona from the first shrek. I'm not like a huge fan of slapping character names into roles just because, so i think most antagonists would be of the robin-hood-world and some might get left out. Dustin and Erica would be there, possibly as merry men, or i also think itd be cool to mix another vaguely-medieval story that fits the kids group better, have it be something in the backstory or future or something like a story living in the edges of this one. Eddies also an easy fit as the minstrel and could be tied to chrissy's story too if you want
im not planning on writing anything for it, but the story ideas that are jumping out to me rn are mostly characters meeting/origin stories. Steve and Robin meet early on in her outcastery, Robin in jail for stealing and Steve also locked up close by either for something outrageously stupid or something definitely illegal but for the sake of his little brother and friends. They swap stories and then swap even more jokes and fun banter. Either Robin loops him in on her plan to break out, or Dustin and Erica come to break Steve out during her escape and they all team up. Maybe a little part where they visit Dustin and friends, let him know Steve's fine even tho him and Robin are fugitives, maybe Dustin tries to follow them but they have to send him back until he's old enough to move out, an emotional "we're not gone forever" talk, concluding with Robin and Steve heading off to camp in the woods and figure out what's next. maybe robin comes out here, maybe steve had confessed and whatnot similar to the show, maybe robin just needed to establish that she's not into him before they started adventuring just the two of them. Maybe she mentions her future plans, to stay firmly on the laws bad side, maybe to reunite with the lady she found at the edge of palace gardens, something that would make the road alongside her rougher than his already will be, and Steve chooses to join her anyway.
also a romantic subplot with Chrissy or Vickie.
if its chrissy, i think itd go similarly to the disney movie (relative to vickie's anyway), chrissy has her princessy life and through circumstance (maybe an archery contest, maybe they run into each other, probably a combination of run-ins) they meet and are into each other, maybe Robin crossdresses and after she's revealed to be a girl Chrissy's head over heels, maybe Chrissy runs away, maybe robin wins her favor, lots of fun princess tropes to play with.
with vickie, i keep leaning into the Fiona-style angle where she very much doesn't care to be in a royal setting, not rejecting femininity just spinning the princess archetype on its head. So maybe she's a runaway, maybe she rescued herself, or maybe she faked her death or something extreme, and she runs into robin (maybe robins disguised and she looks extra rougish, maybe vickie had only heard bad stories about her) and they fight. if vickie wins she notices in her victory robins actual personality, realizes shes not aggressive like expected and they talk, and if robin wins she does a mercy thing, maybe disarms her to get enough time to run off and vickies like 🤨mysterious🤨 or they spark up conversation. Maybe part of Robins group comes in either ready to defend her or diffuse the situation and their appearance soon splits the fight. lots and lots to play with. one way or another vickie tags along or joins the group, she and robin fall in love, yippee
aaaand third option: polyarmory, where chrissy joins the group first, they run into vickie second, and the three of them fall in love.
fourth option: aro robin (lol get it. cause. arrows.) who picks up princesses (plus steve too) like its her job and those princesses fall in love
r*nance (* for search because this isn't exactly abt them, NOT to be a dick about it) could work too ig but its not my jam so im not diving into that angle
i also love the idea of expanding robins relationship with any of the kids (Dustin and especially Erica, because scoops troop has solid character dynamic potential thats barely touched. Robin and Max too, and it'd make sense to bring in Lucas too with his ties to both Erica and Max)
if this gives anyone else brainworms and you want to write it, absolutely go for it, i know im definitely not going to sit down and write scenes or anything for it, and if you're comfortable tag me so i can read it!!

Most Common Problems Faced by My Childhood Dolls (Grouped by Type of Doll)
Baby/Companion Dolls: life-threatening diseases; bullying by other dolls at school; my dubious discipline style; my divorce from my imaginary husband Jake.
Groovy Girls: bullying by other Groovy Girls; life-altering gymnastics accidents; feet too unwieldy for go-go boots.
Barbies: false witchcraft accusations; real witches; tuberculosis; kidnapping; the time Ken and his brother Adam started a polygamous cult; bullying by other Barbies (whether in a normal high school or a beauty pageant or a cult); basically anything bad that happened to female movie stars in Hollywood under the studio system; the challenges of raising a million Chrissies and Kellies and Stacies and Skippers and similarly sized off-brand child dolls with little help from Ken or Adam; sibling rivalry (including an East of Eden-style mess between Ken and Adam).
Dollhouse Families: my friend Emily C. (I was Emily S.) stealing the mom doll from my old Fisher-Price family, leaving John (the dad) a widower, so when I got a new family a few years later, I decided that John should marry Patricia, the mom of the new family, which made it necessary for me to interpret Robbie (almost certainly meant to be a dad doll) as Patricia's teenage son, which was obviously very emotionally confusing for Robbie and exacerbated the usual tensions of a newly blended family.
Clothespin Dolls: Nancy, Alice, and Lily, the three charming clothespin dolls made by my genuinely talented great-aunt Beth in the 1960s or 1970s, were grown-up sisters who had a complicated dynamic (both Nancy and Lily had serious psychological and/or substance abuse issues, so Alice had to take care of them and Nancy's children and her own children) and also experienced nineteenth-century-literature-style problems, like diphtheria and ice-skating accidents and bear attacks. The clothespin dolls that I created myself as a tween/young teen were not as well-made, but their problems were generally limited to normal high school bullshit (not even the kind where you get poisoned or kidnapped!).
Miscellaneous Medium-Sized Figurines (mostly fast food toys of Disney characters and mini-Barbies): various passive-aggressive rivalries between groups (mini-Barbies vs. movie/TV characters, Disney vs. non-Disney, movie vs. TV, protagonist vs. non-protagonist, etc.); a lack of eligible bachelors (leading to unwise marriages, such as Belle from Beauty and the Beast marrying a temperamental Space Jam monster); ennui.
Playmobils: the Playmobils had a nearly utopian society, relatively free from poverty and class snobbery, and generally this diverse group of Union soldiers, stuffy Victorians, pirates, outlaws, royalty, horse girls, milkmaids, and fairies were able to work out their differences peacefully. However, all that progressive modernity had a dark side, most clearly illustrated by the Kafkaesque ordeal of Oliver, a boy who was imprisoned for no discernable reason by an evil psychiatrist and his social worker girlfriend despite the desperate efforts of his mother to free him. Intense wartime romances and infectious disease outbreaks were also common themes.
Fisher-Price Great Adventure Action Figures: these rather hideous but very fun toys (consisting of an anachronistic mix of knights, pirates, cowboys, and Robin Hood's Merry Men) belonged to my seven-years-younger brother, so we would play with them a lot while I was looking after him. Naturally there was a lot of military conflict and criminal activity built into our play (will Robin Hood and his friends be able to steal the treasure from the castle? Will the golden knights or the black knights win the big battle? Who will stop the stagecoach robberies?), but, to entertain myself, I would introduce storylines such as "the Golden Sword Knight is tired of being bullied by the other knights, so he runs away and goes to live in the forest with Robin Hood's gang, where he falls in love with a female outlaw" and "Little John starts a AC/DC-style rock band with two of the black knights and everyone hates it."
Fisher-Price Little People: easily the most provincial of the doll groups, the Fisher-Price Little People struggled with extreme class/wealth inequality, widespread adultery, child abuse, teen homelessness, practically non-existent resources for the disabled, sexual repression, a character known only as "The Pervert," and a killer clown. Every day they went to school and work, and every night they tried to find someone to hook up with and maybe got kidnapped. I only wish my brother and I had been in possession of the motel playset. Think of all the extramarital affairs and drug deals that could have happened there!
Polly Pockets: the Polly Pocket community was dominated by two wealthy factions, a nouveau riche pair of brothers with a beach party house and the royal family. Due to a severe job and housing shortage, plus the local men's habit of not acknowledging their natural children, ordinary Polly Pockets had to struggle and scrape. Compared with the Barbies, there was a lot of solidarity among women (and also Josh, the one working-class boy Polly Pocket). Many of the Polly Pockets were very fragile, including the alcoholic Cowgirl Becky and the agoraphobic piano player Penny.
Paper Dolls: intense status jockeying over who had the most/best clothes, mainly. They also fought about friendships and (if there were any of them) boys, but it ultimately came down to clothes.
#dolls#little john's signature song was called 'ride to hell'#'we're going along on a ride to hell/why don't you come along and feel the trail'#it was not good and everyone was so mad at him

My Striker's Headcanons:
- His singing voice is Eric Clapton's. Because yes.
- He doesn't like fish and seafood in general.
- He's a real animal whisperer: Striker has a natural affinity with animals, especially horses. He finds solace in their company and prefers them to the one of demons.
He inherited this "gift" from his grandfather, Amaru, who was a serpentfolk shaman.
In my AU, the serpentfolk were wiped out by other demons, but their legacy still remains, for there are many demons who have snake-like features.
- He's pretty good at cooking, but only knows a few recipes.
- Even if he tries to hide it, he's a hopeless romantic.
- He recently developed snake-like features, like venom glands and being able to smell scents with his tongue, even if very far away.
- He often sleeps in fetal position and he's a hugger. His arms or tail will automatically wrap around whoever he's sleeping with.
- Striker starts his day with a strict morning routine that includes a workout, a hearty breakfast, and practicing his marksmanship to keep his skills sharp.
- He's a coffee lover: Striker can't function without his morning coffee. He prefers it strong and black, but occasionally indulges in a sugary, cream-filled concoction when no one's watching.
- Striker is surprisingly good at fixing things around the house. Whether it's a leaky faucet or a creaky door, he tackles household repairs with the same precision as his combat missions.
- He enjoys reading, especially crime novels and westerns. He often unwinds in the evening with a good book, escaping into tales of adventure and intrigue. Although his favorite book since childhood is "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood".
- He likes STRONG women and men. Not only physically, but in the sense of attitude too.
- Striker finds small talk pointless and prefers meaningful conversations or silence over idle chit-chat.
- He hates being undermined or underestimated. He demands respect and recognition for his skills and efforts.
- Striker enjoys a good glass of whiskey, particularly after a long day. He appreciates the complexity of its flavors and the way it helps him unwind. His favorite cocktail is the Old Fashioned.
- He doesn't get drunk easily.
- He despises drugs.
- He only smokes whenever he's relaxing or he's pensive. Usually cigarettes, but he enjoys a good cigar from time to time.
- Striker is definitely a Dom in bed. Still, that doesn't mean he never tried being a Sub...but that means he REALLY must trust the person he's having sex with, and that's extremely difficult.
Not impossible, but difficult.
As of now, only his late wife Ember, managed to do that.
- He is fiercely protective of his partner. While he respects their independence, he’s always ready to defend them if necessary.
- Striker shows his love through acts of service. Whether it’s fixing something for his partner, cooking a meal, or taking care of their needs, he believes actions speak louder than words.
-Despite his tough exterior, he has a surprisingly soft side that he shows only to his partner. He can be gentle, affectionate, and even vulnerable with them.
- Once Striker commits, he's incredibly loyal. Betrayal is a deal-breaker for him, and he expects the same level of loyalty in return.
- He has a bit of a jealous streak. While he trusts his partner, he can get possessive if he feels someone is trying to encroach on his relationship.
- Striker is very supportive of his partner’s goals and dreams. He encourages them to pursue their passions and is always there to offer help and motivation.

Will they find a way to get their old lives back, or will they join her in her life of danger, wealth and power?
If anyone knows of a fic like this, please reblog, reply, or send an ask with fics fitting this idea and I’ll add it here!

@athena-xox :Nate
MY BOY. Strap in because the lesser known the character the more headcanons there are.
Nate and Alana O'Dale are dating
(Context: I headcanon this backgrounder as the daughter of Alan O'Dale from Robin Hood. She's also in the Merry Men band)
One of his goals is to end hate against those who aren't human.
He is Briars goto if she needs a buddy to go on adventures with. However he is very weary on fire-based activities.
There hasn't been a "true" Rat King in The Nutcracker for YEARS and he is determined to figure out why.
He is one out of two boys in Ballet class.
He hates it when people underestimate him just for being made of wood.
He is amazing at sword fighting.
When Alana was getting ready for her first ball Sparrow balled his eyes out helping her get ready.
The Merry Men have sent photos of wood burning to him as threats.
He loves sweets, it's all he will eat sometimes.
He isn't a fan of the Christmas season because others will try to use him as a prop.
Him and Tiny are long distance friends.
He's friendly with everyone.
His fashion sense is combining Soldier-Prince with a modern take.
He easily gets hurt.
He is close with his father but rarely sees him during the school year since Toy-Land is so far away.
His BFF is Sweetheart Sugar-Plum.
(This girl)
They're childhood best friends.
His birthday is December 21st.
His dad had to fight to get his son into the Ballet class since it's "for girls" .
He has black hair, tan skin, and eyes so green they almost glow.
He has started a "Non-Human-Human" club. The members are: Lizzie, Cedar, Kitty, Bunny, CA Cupid, Mister Spider, The Three Pigs, The Three Goats, as well as a few others. Professor Card is the sponsor for it and so far they've done a lot for the community.
He accidentally learned Riddlish due to the club and how many Wonderland students are in it.
He is so tired of the Nut jokes.
In Toy-Land they focus on nonverbal communication. He sometimes forgets that and will have entire conversations without realizing the other person doesn't know what he's trying to say.
Outside of Ballet and any Extreme-Sports he is extremely clumsy.
Headmaster Grimm doesn't accommodate him for his height.
The mirrors show his true, human form.
Him and Briar are close, they both understand what it's like to be cursed. To be cursed at such a young age and just to be expected to "deal with it" because it's "your destiny".
He was cursed when he was seven and he can still remember being human, being able to be a person and to feel.. everything. To feel the grass, a hug, to know your emotions are real, not having to worry about being made of wood, the biggest thing, to be able to enjoy the feeling of being by the fireplace without being scared.
There are times where he breaks down due to this. Just wanting to experience Christmas like how it was before the curse.
Source: based on the play, the book, and the Ever After High books.

144. Various Authors - Dragon #55 (November 1981)
As we approach the end of 1981 we get the November issue of Dragon with a cool Erol Otus cover. The issue marks the return of an important part of the magazine and TSR in general, by bringing back Gygax's From the Sorcerer's Scroll column, which had been absent for over a year at this point. Gygax writes about the world of Greyhawk and again return to the issue of "race" in Greyhawk, a lot of talk about "pure" and "mixed" races which feels not only uncomfortable but unnecessary, also because he had already written this in #52 as an addendum to Lakofka's Tiny Hut. At least he promises to being new content in the next issues. But it's not all about returns, there is also someone new showing up here and that is Larry Elmore that contributes a new comic strip at the end of the magazine, but more importantly will be one of the most important (together with Clyde Caldwell) artists that will set the visual identity of AD&D for the rest of the 80s and beyond.
However, the magazine starts off with a couple of reviews of the Fiend Folio by Ed Greenwood (who gives it a pretty negative review) and Alan Zumwalt (who gives it a middling one) as well as a reply by editor Don Turnbull. Turnbull explains, and he is right, that many of the problems pointed out are a result of a really difficult publishing history which made the book exist in a limbo for about 2 years before publication, making it outdated by the time it came out.
We also get new stats for Dinos in AD&D, stats for Robin Hood and his Merry Men, a little adventure module and an article on how your characters can run away from danger in dungeons. We also get the usual bestiary and comic strips with the addition of Da Letter by Larry Elmore.

“Oh Curses!” Moment: I tend to get lost in the music. When I start playing, I just can’t stop. It usually takes someone shaking me or a loud noise to make me stop.
Favorite Subject: Muse-ic Class of course! It’s a great time to practice and make new songs!
Least Favorite Subject: Swamp Swimming. I love being outdoors as much as the next forester, but a swamp is no place for me.
Best Friends Forever After: I’m childhood friends with all the Merry Men’s children, including Sparrow Hood and Wilma Scarlet. Melody Piper, Hopper Croakington, Sandra Castle, Yeh Jia Li, Mildred Goldstraw, Meen River, Wang Yan Mei, Linda Vorm, and Birch and Maple Spinner are some of my closest friends.
Pet: My pet rooster, Chanticleer, can really carry a note.

The Scottish actor Archibald Duncan was born in Glasgow on 26th May 1914.
His father was a regimental sergeant major and his mother a postmistress. He was educated at Govan High School and afterwards and worked as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards.
It was at the Citizens Theatre Company that Duncan joined the training ground of many Scottish actors including, Molly Urquart, Duncan Macrae, Gordon Jackson and Eileen Herlie. He then made his Scottish acting debut in Juno and the Paycock, playing all three gunmen, at Glasgow's Alhambra in May 1944.
Duncan went on to star in London's West End with the likes of the great Scottish character actor Alistair Sim and the late George Cole. Film roles started to follow with , Floodtide , The Gorballs Story, The Elusive Pimpernel, Green Grow the Rushes, Henry V, The Lavender Hill Mob, You're Only Young Twice and Walt Disney's The Story Of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men as 'Red Gill' amongst many others. Duncan also teamed up with Richard Todd and James Robertson Justice in Disney’s Rob Roy the Highland Rogue as Dugal Mac Gregor.
One of Duncan's first big TV roles was as Inspector Lestrade in the 1954 series Sherlock Holmes, but perhaps Archibald Duncan is best remembered for his second Robin Hood role, where 6'2" Duncan played Little John alongside Richard Greene in The Adventures of Robin Hood which ran for 143 episodes on ITV here and CBS in the states from 1955 to 1959. I just had a wee look and many of the episodes are on Youtube.
Duncan's portrayal of Little John would be fondly remembered decades later for his combination of strength, skill and humour. It was during the filming this unforgettable series that this Scottish gentle giant proved to be a true hero and managed to prevent a runaway horse from hurtling towards a group of spectators, consisting of mainly children, watching close by. For this brave feat, he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery and £1,360 in "damages". But it also resulted in him missing the recording of eleven episodes of Robin Hood. So between times, a replacement was found in fellow Scotsman, Rufus Cruickshank.
Another great Scottish film he appeared in was Ring of Bright Water. Archie Duncan's career in television production carried on with parts in programmes like Z Cars, Hereward the Wake, Orlando, Black Beauty and Bootsie and Snudge.
Sadly in 1978 he suffered a massive stroke which caused paralysis down his right side. Sadly he passed away at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, London aged 65 on 24th July 1979.

It has just come to our attention that, in error, Richard Burton as Thomas Becket (Becket, 1964), was not counted in the tally of contenders. This has been corrected.
However. This now leaves us with an odd number of contenders, and so, as we have a proliferation of Robin Hoods, we have decided to even out our count of Robins and Arthurs (and our list of contenders) by eliminating one Robin.
We leave it to you, fine people of Tumblr, to choose which Robin to hand over to his respective Sheriff of Nottingham.
To be clear: The Robin who receives the most votes will be eliminated. Vote for the Robin you would like to see eliminated.

Aaaahhh I just finished ‘Merry Men Making Merry’ (otherwise known as MMMM) and I’m so hyped about it!!! I had so much fun reading it, your world-building is amazing, so impressive!
As I said I’m a big fan of the story of Robin Hood and it brings back childhood memories. I like that you can read your fic without having any knowledge of the original story, but if you do have knowledge of it it’s so much fun to recognize parts. Like BBH being friar Tuck had me cackling, it’s perfect!
I always love how you write Larray, I can literally hear him in my head with the way you write him 🤭
Oooh and don’t get me started on the ingenuity of incorporating their background stories through flashbacks, that really made the story come to life for me.
//“You gave me a purpose,” Dream tells him, barely audible over the cracking and popping of the fire. The wind almost carries the words away, but George heard them. They’re his now.//
This is probably my favorite part in the fic. For a moment there you had me fooled because of how the og story ends, but your ending was literally perfect. Anyway, I don’t want to spoil too much and I’ve been going on for too long so for anyone reading this ask please go read the fic, you will not regret it!
Thank you Scoops for giving us such a wonderful story again, you’re amazing!
(All that’s missing was the map of the realms at the beginning of the story, haha)
MMMM because it's finger lickin' good!!! Lol no that's so cringe omg
Spoilers under the cut!
I really wanted to write Robin Hood and I was blessed to get the prompt (It was one of those challenged where you give your top 3 preference and then get assigned one). I knew I could write something actiony/adventury because I LOOOVE writing those and I think I'm pretty good at it. Cc!DNF don't really lend themselves to action and adventure but AU versions of them do. Deep in Dream and The Mushroom King and the Nightmare were some of my favorite stories to write. Like, fully obsessed while I was writing them and working on the world building, and MMMM reminded me heavily of those vibes.
I have seen the DIsney animated movie, of course, and also "Men In Tights" and both of those stories kind of spoof the already famous tropes of Robin Hood, so I did some digging --aka I watched an hour long youtube video essay about the evolution of Robin Hood lore-- and dove in. I wanted to add elements from different "canons" - like Robin Hood being secretly a nobleman. I also didn't want this story to be 100K words (which, as you know, I could easily accidentally do) so I decided for the plot, we would center around something fun-- stealing something, since that's what he's known for. I didn't know how to make George Maid Marian because obviously he has to be the love interest, OBVIOUSLY lol, so once I changed it to Maid Marian being Dream's sister, it all kind of fell into place.
However, I also wanted to see *how* they became the Merry Men, I think that's really interesting and integral to the story, and thus the flashbacks were born. I really don't like flashbacks, both in reading and writing, I think they can be done very very well (Hi Luci!), but normally i just find them really boring, so I had to keep them short and action packed to keep everyone's attention.
BBH as Friar Tuck -- fit tooooo perfectly, I just had to. I went back and forth on George or Sapnap being Little John and then decided it didn't really matter ultimately, they both kind of fill that role. Though, George kind of also rounds out the "Robin Hood" persona --please note that he gets mistaken for Robin Hood at least once in the fic!
I had a blast writing this one and, not going to lie, it got away from me for a while, but @rebelwithoutabroom helped pull me back lol.
Thank you so much for such a lovely review of the story! I'm so glad you liked it <3
(Yes, next time will add a map, though i have no idea what it all would look like so that will add like 5 months onto things. Also, multiple realms, what was I thinking?!)

Robin Hood - Henry Gilbert
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Robin Hood is the best-loved outlaw of all time. In this beautifully illustrated edition, Henry Gilbert tells of the adventures of the Merry Men of the Sherwood Forest - Robin himself, Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet and Alan-a-Dale, as well as Maid Marian, good King Richard, and Robin's deadly enemies Guy of Gisborne and the evil Sheriff of Nottingham."
I know Robin Hood is generally seen as a tale for children, but I couldn't help but read this edition when I found it at a book fair. I read every word of this book while outside in the bush, as I thought Robin would approve. It certainly added to the atmosphere.
The language does take some getting used to, but I found that after a few pages it becomes quite natural and actually adds to the story. Every character's personality comes through in their language, and it really felt as though I was in the greenwood with them all. As well as this, there are some absolutely beautiful descriptions of nature within every chapter, which speak to the beauty of the greenwood and Robin's connection to it. One of my favourites is found on page 44:
"Most of the villeins lay on their backs, feeling pure enjoyment in looking up into the weaving masses of leaves above their heads, through which, like flaming spear-heads, the sunlight slid now and then as the gentle summer breeze stirred the deeps of the trees."
Additionally, the comments on equality and justice are just as relevant today as they were when these tales were first told. Robin Hood, who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, who lays justice to those who do wrong with no punishment, who defends the innocent, the poor, and women and children with an iron fist, is a symbol of hope to us all; he is testament to the everlasting dream of justice in an unfair society. Robin Hood is the embodiment of a chivalrous and fair man, and we can revere his violent acts against the rich as they finally receive the punishment we know they deserve.
Also, he literally stormed the largest castle in all the land against all odds because they killed his wife, which is honestly all anyone could ask for.
I was dreading the final chapter as soon as I started the novel. I was never actually aware of many of Robin Hood's tales beforehand, so I didn't know how he died - I was expecting some giant battle or valiant sacrifice, where I would be forced to hear of his death amongst the chaos - but, thankfully, this was not the case. His death was almost beautiful. I was sobbing pretty hard all the same, but it gave a nice sense of closure.
I don't think I will ever walk through nature the same way again - in a good way, of course. In all its beauty and all its mysteries, lies the hope of a better future in Robin Hood.
