Looking for a slowburn epic fantasy with unique characters (harpies!), dual POV, no spice, a lush setting, anime inspiration, and more?!
✨ SOUL-BOUND is available now in paperback and ebook ✨
When a tsundere princess with forbidden magic loses her flight during her quest to heal corrupted crystal roots, she must depend on a charming vagabond's aid to help her before their avian world collapses.
Think TANGLED and ANASTASIA's royal x rogue dynamic with the traveling romance like DANCE OF THIEVES meeting the healing, atmospheric setting of FERNGULLY.
🪷 SOUL-BOUND SUMMARY 🪷
Avem, a continent inhabited by bird-like humans called Avians, consists of seven territories, each of which contains a crystal root: a treelike sanctuary preserving magic. Avians cannot wield the land’s magic themselves.
Except, Mika, the princess of Passíer. However, her father forbids her to use it out of concern for her safety.
Due to the expanding corruption from Cantio; a fallen territory under Passíer’s jurisdiction because of its damaged root, Zayn the militant king of Nyx, suggests Scorching Cantio. To avoid such a catastrophic outcome, Mika flees from home, determined to heal Cantio’s root herself.
In Cantio, she meets Roshan, a vagabond playing double agent to protect what’s left of his uncorrupted homelands. Upon noticing her pink feathers, unique for her specific species, he cautions her to leave before she’s captured and used as coin. She snubs his warning and is nearly taken captive.
During his efforts to help her, Roshan is wounded. Mika heals him with her magic, unintentionally and unknowingly bonding them together.
When the quest costs Mika’s wing and grounds her, she accepts Roshan’s offer to escort her across Avem to heal the damaged roots before corruption destroys their world.

Would you give up everything you have, if it meant getting everything you want?
Tumblr media
For Morgan Pajpjow, normalcy is perhaps a relative term. To most, moving to a new town twice a year would be a bit unusual, but that's Morgan's normal, and he's resigned to it. After all, what's the point of making new friends when it would just be wasted effort? So he keeps his head down, content to be ignored by most, and staves off the meddling and antagonism of the few who won't.
But when Morgan finds a silver branch waiting for him on his way home, normalcy abandons him. Down a disused fork in his driveway, he tumbles headfirst into the Otherworld--a land of arbitrary laws ruled by capricious fairies. A dance, a gift, or an invitation suddenly become waiting snares, eager to bind him into servitude. Now, far from home, Morgan will have to learn how to embrace vulnerability and ask for others' help, or face being stranded in the Otherworld forever.

The age of Empires and Godfire is finally over...
But now there's some fixing up to do.
In a little town cursed with bad luck, a young boy and fledgling dragonbird spirit take on a quest, in hopes the reward will solve all of their problems. The journey will take them much farther from home and to many more silly, bizarre, and powerful spirits than they could've imagined.
As some of you might know, I'm making a comic called The Messenger!!
Tumblr media
It's a silly little adventure story, but I'm still really proud of sticking with it despite everything going on in life ;b; and it's even in Hiveworks now!!
Tumblr media
If you want to check it out, here's the Prologue! Thanks for sticking around all :D

Character Focus: Derivan!
Tumblr media
artist is zoanluen on Twitter!
Oh man, Derivan.
I mean, his character concept was kind of what started this whole thing, right? I like monsters - if the tags on some of my other posts haven't made it obvious - and 'living armor' pushes a lot of buttons for me. There's a lot in the idea of being othered that resonates with the queer experience, and Derivan embodies a lot of that in a lot of ways by being, uh, a suit of armor that's afraid to let other people know that he's a suit of armor?
(It turns out they knew all along. Not completely, but they figured something was up, considering he never took off his helmet. 0 of his friends were surprised when it was eventually revealed.)
Derivan spent most of his formative years in a dungeon (the video game equivalent of a dungeon, as in a 'challenging location', not someone's basement), so he's very fascinated by the world at large - which explains a lot of his connection to Vex, who loves explaining just about everything in too much detail. Unlike most people who talk to Vex, Derivan sits and listens to every word attentively.
What's sort of funny is that a lot of people assume he's ace? I do have an ace character, but that's Sev. Derivan is demisexual. I leave further thoughts on this as an exercise to the reader. (Or you can respond to this post with theories.)
Derivan represents an outside-context problem for the system in the world of Edge Cases. He's essentially an embodiment of an issue I often find in video games - that video games will often designate 'monster races' that are all enemies, despite several of them being very clearly sapient. He's meant to be commentary on that aspect of the reductiveness of video game logic, so to speak.
He's very formal and thoughtful, he uses the lights in his helmet to express most of his emotions, and is otherwise protective of his friends, who were the first people to accept him. Found family vibes baybeeeeee
For those not familiar, Derivan is from my book, The Fabric of Reality.

A Brief Summary of Lake Amenity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lake Amenity is a beloved passion project I've been workshopping since 2018. Originally, I had the hope in making Lake Amenity into a cartoon, but I figured the path towards that goal would be unimaginably difficult and I'd likely be forced to scrap a lot of the story anyway. I believe making the story independently is the best path for me to take at this point in my life, despite the lower production value. I don't need the story to be perfect though, I just want to be able to be happy with it at the end of the day. The story follows Cass and their friends, Aria and Axel, as they learn to grow and trust each other during various hardships. Cass is a young, shy kid who struggles to learn magic due to their disturbing visions. Aria is a determined child who's trying to find her path. Axel simply wishes to do what he wants and own as many magical creatures as he desires. Family drama, mental health, and fire-breathing dragons are the kinds of things you'll find in this story. Despite all the fantasy elements though, I consider it a humble coming of age story.
The first episode will be released here April 22nd 2023.

The start was strong but the ending failed to deliver... if only they had paced the pinch points of Bunniguru and Blister closer, made them more impactful. Maybe I am expecting too much from a kids show.....

Anyone got any recs for good old fashioned adventure fantasy? I’m talking wizards, dragons, evil sorcerers, high fantasy type stuff. I don’t want a political machinations plot, I don’t want a romance arc, I want a band of heroes on an epic quest. I want the kind of story all those wizards airbrushed on vans came out of. Hell I don’t even particularly want innovation, it could be fucking textbook mediocre high fantasy and I’d prob read it so long as it’s not written for kids or young adults.
The adventure part is critical, I’ve got plenty of other worlds type fantasy that takes place w/i a small area, I want the kind of shit that comes w a bigass map at the front. Some real Forgotten Realms bullshit (but not written by bob salvatore bc I want to have a good time)

Hi Tumblr! I'm Kurt and this is my debut novel.
Morgan and the Fey is about a high-school freshman complacent with his lot in life, who suddenly finds escape and danger in a world completely foreign to him. The Otherworld he falls into is one part pan-European fairylore, one part mythological quest cycle, and eight parts uncharted old-growth forest. This book has a host of inspirations, but if I had to describe it in a comp, I would say it's Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom meets the Fafnismal.
This is an idea that came to me very suddenly about two years ago, while reading up on folklore and listening to music from the Romance era (as one does), and I very quickly fell in love with it. It ran away with my imagination and I ended up writing my first draft in a span of eight months, which was far faster than any project I'd worked on of a similar scale before now. And since then, I've been trying to make this dream a reality.
Writing Morgan was very much a labour of love for me. This is primarily the kind of book that I would've wanted growing up as a queer kid with no real way to define myself--with a main character who doesn't quite fit the mold (but isn't particularly afraid of that), struggling to find both his place in the world and people he can truly trust.
This book focuses on the lives of queer youth, and all the struggle that comes with that identity. There's of course countless themes that are wrapped up in that, and many that the novel explores. But primarily, Morgan is about self-discovery--the best and worst of you brought out by the people you know, the places and people you call home, and figuring out just who you are and where you stand in this crazy world.
If you're interested and would like to preorder, you can find Morgan and the Fey at any of the locations below:
Rakuten Kobo
Barnes & Noble
Apple Books
Smashwords
Additional links to other stores will be available as they generate, so I'll be updating as that occurs!
Morgan and the Fey will be available for purchase November 7th 2023.
