Speechless

There have been times in this life when I have found myself tongue tied, unable to utter necessary truths on my own behalf, to the detriment of my wellbeing. 

I do try to use my words. Truly. But I’ve always been a bit more of a listener in conversation and a writer when it comes to expression. 

Anyway, once again, as is becoming a recognizable pattern like the ringlets of his hair or the timing of his rhythms, he has turned the nature of my association with this reality inside out for me too. It is ecstasy that has brought me to the state of wordlessness this time. 

I’ve both cried and laughed to breathlessness. Noticed myself pacing, gripping my skin, and moving my body in ways which mimic the scenes described by his pen..  but the proper string of phrases to express the way I feel about this gift escapes me, much to my deep regret. Not because it isn’t pleasurable to feel this out of control, so lost for words- dear god no- but because he deserves to hear the gratitude, the desire that hums within me like a kitten’s purr, rising from the energy of his words. 

Yet I find myself unable to sort out what to say to him. What’s that they say- “cat’s got your tongue”? Yeah, something like that. 

While we’re hashing out the matter, here are a few options I’ve considered:

“I’m speechless.”

“I can’t stop thinking about you.”

“So, how many blogs do you run anyway?”

There were parts of me that wanted to ask him if he’d meant it, if I’d been mistaken in thinking he was behind the words, but I knew better. The details. Always the fucking details. The carefully chosen and placed words. Echoes of my own work. No one else knew me in such a way. None other would bother to implement this level of precision. The question would not only be insulting but unnecessary, though still.. it seemed only natural, given my state of total awe, to grasp for some sort of reassurance or explanation. But it was all there in what he had written. How he had delivered it. Black and white words colored richly by the heat of the heart and the imagination of the mind behind them; an artist’s touch. 

He writes like my favorite author while quoting my favorite musician. 

How could I possibly say how much that means with something as feeble as words? 

I feel the need to run to him. To do away with the restraint and composure which comes between us all too often and just melt into his arms. To look into one another’s eyes momentarily before each diving into the other’s lips as our hands delicately begin to dance across flesh. We’d exchange sighs and subtle groans as the dancing turns to clumsy grips and eager gropes. 

I want to write my gratitude in tiny, nibbling kisses across his neck and chest, down his tummy. To trace his skin teasingly with my tongue. To look up at him with wide eyes and drool upon myself as I take more of him into my mouth.

I ache to wrap my arms around him. To assure him that his heart is as safe as he’s made mine feel. To feel it beat beneath my fingertips as I tell him that no lover will ever break it again for as long as I am alive because I will work day and night to maintain the moat that now surrounds it and springs from the well within my own. To never let him go.
