Concert report: Within Temptation in Zurich - a very special experience

Yesss :D So this time, I got the FULL experience of Within Temptation (after I saw them in Frankfurt this year from seating area - which just wasn't it for me, too far away...).

I think it's such an advantage to be used to going to R+-concerts - this way it's sooo nice to make the experience that you not always have to sell your soul if you want to make it to first row XD

I came 1 hour before the doors opened - half an hour would have been completely sufficient :D No fighting, no running, no elbows in the ribs - and I made it to first row, yaaay!! :D Man I just enjoy being very close to the band, seeing expression, emotions, interactions between the band members,... This way I can indulge completely into the experience.

The opening acts (Blind8 and Annisokay) I alreday knew from the concert in Frankfurt - already there I LOVED Annisokay but this time I also enjoyed Blind8 way more than the fist time. I think it's because I was closer, this way I felt the energy more.

Within Temptation was gorgeous as ever! Sharons voice is so damn good and she sounds like on the record. Her high notes are clear and beautiful and give me goosebumps each time.

This was also a very special concert - after 1/3 of the set, they had to pause for about 10 minutes, because a side part of the stage had broken down (not visible for me, but it wasn't safe to continue). This somehow had messed up the technics, which caused problems with the guitars and their in-ear-monitors. They continued after 10 min, but it was obvious that there was something wrong. Technicians were running around from time to time, sometimes a guitar was missing on stage. Sharon told the audience in between songs about the ongoing difficulties.

What impressed me was how professional and still flawless her singing was! The most impressive moment was probably, when 3 of the six band members were suddenly off stage in the middle of a song - Sharon was left only with the drummer and keyboarder - and sang "Stand my ground" - SO very fitting!! It was also unique to hear the song without all three guitars (bass included)! :D She apologized several times for the difficulties, of course it wasn't their fault and I had the feeling that no one in the audience was complaining. The atmosphere was relaxed and the audience even started singing a swiss song during the break (which I didn't know). At one point when the technical issues persisted, I was fearing that they might cancel the show - but that wasn't the case. They carried on, even though one of the two guitars was missing most of the time.

Sharon even said that this never happened to them, technical issues they already had of course, but never to that extend. So it was a very special experience :D It wasn't something negative in my eyes, it just showed me how professional they are and what good musicians they are - perfoming this good with noise interference and missing instruments is definitely something! They finished their set 30mins late and it was such a unique experience :)

And today I have a little neck ache - which is always a good sign that it was a great concert ;D

Taylor Swift and Vienna Eras Tour

So, Eras Tour Wembley Night 2 just happened and I am sad

I am sad and I am upset and I am also happy for all of the Swifties who got the chance to attend but I am so upset that I had one chance to see Taylor and that was taken away from me, and thousands of other swifties...

And I'm seeing other swifties defending Taylor and her team, and being so insensitive and mean to the Vienna fans and I'm just in shock. Everyone moved on from this so quickly and the Vienna fans are still trying to deal with the immense sadness that we're all feeling.

I'm hurt. Hurt that she didn't even acknowledge the Vienna cancellations in any way whatsoever. She didn't have to state the reason, just an acknowledgement to show that her fans are seen, that she cares about them. Just that would have been enough for us.

And no, I'm not being an entitled person asking for my favourite artist, the only artist whose music I've listened to for YEARS, to atleast tell me that she was looking forward to performing for us. She isn't answerable to us but she is a celebrity with millions of fans who support her and stand by her no matter what. So no I'm not entitled in asking 1% of that support back from her.

Years of dreaming about going to a Taylor concert and this was my first chance. I was supposed to put on my eras tour outfit, wear the jewellery I bought for the concert, anticipate the outfit changes and surprise songs, scream fuck the patriarchy with 50k fans, scream the cruel summer bridge, cry. What do I do now?

Even if she couldn't say anything, a surprise song for us in the Wembley concert would have been nice. Just one song.

I'm just hurt and sad and upset and I haven't been able to listen to her songs ever since the cancellations. I can't bear to look at the concert videos. Yet I open them like a glutton for punishment. Idk what to do. She's been my favorite artist for so long. Her songs brought me comfort when I moved to a new country. And now those very songs hurt me. It hurts and I hate this feeling and I hate that I'm not even seen. I'm just another person who spent money on her.

In the grand scheme of shitty things happening in the world right now, my problem is very much a first world problem. Sometimes I feel so stupid thinking these thoughts. I just want to move on from these feelings. But I don't know how to process these emotions. If anyone has any tips please feel free to share.

Haha this ask suddenly made me miss my Adèle hyperfixation during the portrait press run. But I’m afraid I can’t help you with that. Tho I remember there was a fan who sent her a letter (I’m guessing thru her mgt co at that time) and got a response/postcard back so you never know. I guess it’s harder now cause she’s not in cinema anymore.
