I turn 34 on Sunday. Every year after 30 feels incomprehensible to me. I never thought I would make it to 30. Never. And yet, here I am at 34.
I never know how to feel. I made it one more year. And still struggling with trauma, bpd, depression, suicidality, self harm. I know I've made "progress," whatever that means I guess. But, I always come back to the ideation and urges. How many more years of this can I take? Even if I continue making progress, I do not think I will ever be without the suicidality and self harm. Without the constant thought of how my life would always end at my own hand.
So what then? Do I keep going? Knowing it will never fully go away? That my immediate reaction will always default to suicide, even if the thought may decrease as the years pass? Do I want that? Do I want a life like that?
I don't know.

When it comes to autism intervention, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically proven and highly effective approach. ABA therapy in Alpharetta, Georgia, operates on the fundamental principle that behavior is learned and can be modified systematically, orchestrating behavior change for individuals with autism.

Shockingly underrated thing about Leo is that he’s legitimately charming when he wants to be?
He’s the Faceman! He’s persuasive! That’s not just some random title he gave himself with no backing to it. People will listen to him. Even if they think he’s being annoying or if they’re upset at him, people listen to him anyway! There’s a reason his bros push him out front to talk to people, and when this happens, that talking nearly always works.
Moreover, Leo knows people. He looks at them and takes into account how they act and what they’re like as he makes his way through the conversations. It’s easy to forget this aspect of Leo’s character because he only brings it out when he really needs (read: wants) to, but it really is a notable part of him that always love to see.
And I say charm in particular because he has a knack for not only getting people to pay attention, but for getting people to stay and listen to what he has to say.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rise leo#I feel like people equate Leo to a lot of loud gross boy behavior instead of looking at his actual accomplishments#which fair enough#he IS a loud gross boy a lot of the time#but his charisma really deserves a mention for how much it comes in clutch#that one cut animatic of the other people in the resistance wanting Leo to join them for karaoke like#and yes those inspiring speeches he gives his fam are also an example of charm#bro has! charisma! he can have his loser moments and at the same time show off how to manipulate through words#Leo knows people and if he really wants to he can talk them up#but yeah like - I see people calling him the face man a lot but not so much taking into account what that entails#he’s got a pretty face! and he’ll do the talking a lot! but that’s not all a face man is#another thing that is SHOCKINGLY underrated in fandom is Raph loving fighting???#I have no idea why but I feel like I don’t see this mentioned enough#he adores wrestling and roughhousing and training and just FIGHTING in general plz let my boy punch something#I have more I wanna say but it’ll have to wait until later it is very late haaa#anyway my main point behind this post is that Leo knows people and in turn knows what they WANT#it is this same perception that makes him REALLY GOOD at getting under people’s skin too#people skills and adaptability really make sense when you take into account the fact that he’s a red eared slider#it really is cool to see how much this part of Leo is addressed throughout the series#nearly always in very lowkey ways

I've seen a lot of discourse about Virginia Kull's portrayal of Sally Jackson in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series, and I'd like to say that I loved her. Don't get me wrong. I love Sally from the original book series, and I, too, would fight the God of War on her behalf. But something that I enjoyed about Virginia's portrayal of Sally that we don't get in the books is the character depth. We don't hear much of Sally's backstory in the TV series, apart from a couple of flashbacks with younger Percy and that scene with Poseidon (Toby Stephens). However, those scenes do an excellent job of showing us that alongside being Percy's mother, Sally is also a young woman who fell in love with a man she could not be with and is enduring the natural consequences of having Percy. She struggles to communicate with him when she's frustrated, gets teary-eyed when she lies to him to prolong the inevitable, and actively sacrifices her happiness to ensure his safety. Virginia Kull's portrayal of Sally Jackson reinforces the character's humanity, imperfections, and determination, and it's everything to me.

i genuinely don't know how to phrase this but like
i need to see more ACD Holmes adaptations. I want to see a series that's huge like how BBC Sherlock was, but one that doesn't mess with the story so much. In my opinion, BBC Sherlock doesn't accurately capture the iconic essence of the original Holmes. It's a decent show in it's own right, but it's just nowhere near as good as the original stories, especially when it comes to representing how Sherlock Holmes actually behaves in the original tales. (Not to mention the obvious queerbaiting).
I want to see the REAL Sherlock Holmes get famous. Yeah, everyone knows who Sherlock Holmes is, but it's usually a very general idea full of stereotypical detectives, huge pipes, and "elementary, my dear Watson!" (which is not an actual line in the original stories, anyway)!!
Like imagine some kind of tv show/movie for the stories. A fully-fleshed visual representation of all the stories. (while fixing problematic parts, obviously, because there are MANY problematic parts) with an actual PLOT to keep the masses entertained, while still showing the original, enthralling character of Sherlock Holmes.

hotd writers thought Rhaena's Vale plot was too boring for tv so they stole a black character's plotline to make a white character more interesting, and they thought we wouldn't notice because they made the Velaryons black in the show (and yes, Rhaena is still written as a white character because she is Valyrian, and the racially based discrimination and violence book Nettles faces has been erased) 🤡

losing my shit over hannibal and will again because i felt like rewatching this show again
i cannot believe some people still don’t think it’s canon??? hannibal wants to fuck will so bad he baby traps him with a teenager within days of meeting him???
he stabs him for betraying him even though will literally told him to tun away??? will leaves his entire life for hannibal???
what more do you need? will clearly has been fighting himself and his morals (and his sexuality) from the start and hannibal has been coaxing him deeper into murdery (and gay) activities…
this show is three whole seasons of one man learning to accept himself and become who he is despite not wanting to be that person while his (not) therapist manipulates situations on the sidelines so he can have a boyfriend that gets him

Years ago one of my housemates, after he nearly levitated suddenly seeing my reflection behind him in the microwave-- for the second time that day, I'd walked into the kitchen undetected-- said "Jesus! We've got to put a bell on you."
Which I've been thinking about a lot over the last couple of weeks, seeing Frenchie levitate when Ed suddenly materializes near him in s2e2, and seeing Ed actually wearing a bell in s2e5 as a condition of being on the Revenge.
Tumblr media
(Image courtesy of ratcoffin69, as my ability to screenshot HBO Max seems to have vanished.)
Being a very quiet walker is an advantage if you're a cat stalking a bird. But it's also an advantage if you're a child trying to be invisible and inaudible to a volatile parent. I don't remember learning to walk quietly, but I do remember thinking my sibling who was cheerfully loud would probably suffer less by getting better at melting into and out of rooms.
I imagine there are adults who are quiet walkers because one of their parents took them on a nature hike and taught them if they were very quiet they might see a cool animal-- not necessarily to catch it, just to enjoy seeing a creature living its creaturely life.
Ed "I hate nature" Teach is much less quiet walking through tall grass and didn't learn to walk quietly in order to watch a deer going through its early morning routine (though his bunny-interaction skills seem promising?).
Tumblr media
Per a current housemate's request, I try to remember to say "I'm walking behind you" when someone I live with might not hear me, at least in the kitchen where stoves are hot and there's a higher number of breakable and pointy things. Which I guess is kind of like wearing a bell. Just: it's hard to learn a new habit, especially when you had very good reasons for learning the old one.

the clans use salt for healing and cooking if i remember correctly. im only saying this because would someone ever name their kid "saltkit"
Yes! Saltkit is a valid prefix in BB, but only after moving to the Lake.
Before then, they make a sort-of-salt out of burning dandelion root. They consider this material a kind of soot, fine ashes produced by burning something. The rough translation of this spice is "soot-salty-taste."
Salty (taste) = Byyle (Comes from blood-taste)
Soot (ashes produced by finely burning something) = Keybo (Used alone in artsy contexts, usually describes bistre, a pigment made from soot and water.)
Plant Salt (of coltsfoot or dandelion) = Keybyy
To specify if it comes from Dandelion or Coltsfoot, you'd say Keybyy Raerra or Keybyy Hakprru. There aren't two dedicated words for the difference; these are both considered "types of dandelions" by Clan cats.
Dandelion = Awpo Any flowering ground plant with fluffy yellow petals.
This is why they didn't previously have a word for salt itself! They would only ever encounter raw salt as an animal lick, which they'd call Byylebon. Salty-useful-rock. Because it was associated with humans, they wouldn't steal them or interact with them much.
Rraash is a Townmew loanword, a word they adopted for raw, powdered salt during their time trading with BloodClan. At the Lake, they now collect raw sea salt during "Salt Patrols," which are beach trips where a big collection of apprentices are brought to the ocean to learn how to collect and process salt.
So, depending on how the parents would like to name their child, those translations could be;
Byylemew = Saltykit The taste of salt. Could refer to the flavor of blood, the taste of the ocean, or the spice made from burned dandelion roots. Has a very food-y connotation, probably named by gourmands.
Keybyymew = Saltkit, Spicekit, Seasoningkit, Rubkit This is a very ThunderClan sort of name. They traditionally used a lot of keybyy in their recipes, as it's very important for a good marinade and making ham. Though, it wouldn't be too surprising to see it used in WindClan too.
Rraashmew = Saltkit, Brinekit Raw salt. Made from boiling ocean water during large expeditions to the sea called a "Salt Patrol." Used as a medicine AND as a spice, important in controlling parasite infestations, fighting infection, and preserving food. Could just be referring to an off-white colored pelt, food, or even strength in battle for its association with treating wounds.

Although, something triggering happened while at church this morning...
I was talking with this one guy who had his 4 y.o. daughter with him. In the middle of conversation, he suddenly noticed she had a bite mark on her hand and asked her what happened. She said she bit it when she was angry. Right there, he went into this explanation of not hurting yourself when you are upset, referencing children's books her parents read with her about processing and validating emotions while also learning how to cope with strong emotions.
I just sat there in shock. That was what I would do when I was in kindergarten. And what did my mother do when she saw them? Told me to stop because they are unsightly and then she turned and walked away. I can still visualize the scene. Staring at her back with shame and an overwhelming sense of rejection as she left me alone. Instead of receiving any help with how to process and cope with dysregulation, I just became smarter at hiding the SH. Which took on multiple variations over the years.
Since I was at church, I was in social mode, so I stuffed down the trigger and carried on with the conversation. But, now it's starting to hit me since I no longer have my paper to focus on...that is what being a parent should be. That is what I should have gotten.
But, no...never for you. And it's too late.
Too late.

me, in my early 30s: hey we should talk about how being in theatre in high school often put our teen bodies in harms way by immature adults who saw us objects to use and sexualize every 20-40 year old around me: theatre kids are so cringe me, in my early 30s: we were put into shows and experienced art meant for adults and had our bodies objectified instead of being taught theatre arts in a safe space with learning about art as the priority and this is also reflected in the indie and professional scene, performers are suppose to without question having their bodies be on display and to be touched how the show runners want every 20-40 year old around me: theatre kids are so annoying me, in my early 30s: hey are you listening to me, you haven’t been in high school in years you’re an adult now those kids you thought were annoying are adults now too hey hello? hello? every 20-40 year old around me: theatre kids  😬😬😬

in a world with an aftg show (because it Has to be a show, not a movie) seth would have a Pretty Guy actor playing him who looked even prettier when he was sneering or scowling and people would make edits of him with the velocity + slo-mo effects and be like "i can fix him"
#and kevin would be it boy of the century and matt would be THE 2000s icon along with allison#neil's the one who looks scrappy and jumpy (which he is) but everyone's gonna be in love with his sharp tongue and hater behavior#everyone would either hate andrew or love him and obv i fall into the second category i'd be no. 1 andrew minyard apologist/defender/lover/#everyone (including myself) would love nicky if this adaptation of him didnt come with all those predatory jokes godbless#everyone else is an icon. yes even aaron who's way too detached from the foxes but he partially slays just being a fox and king of idgafdom#the girls are icons obviously duhhh#but i think with riko the actor would be soooo good and pretty like scary pretty that people make edits and the captions are like DISCLAIME#wymack would have sooo many edits with the sound of whatever's trending that's equivalent to the usher DADDY'S HOME one#i actually have so many thoughts ab an aftg show despite how much i dont want it like i cant help it! aftg slays too much!#these bitches r all too damaged! i love them all too much! i think ab them all the time!#lots of people hate but aftg and the foxes r genuinely some of the most well written relationships to me probably bc i can personally relat#and i think a show would allow for other scenes that we dont see in the book bc theyre all from neil's pov and we don't really find anythin#know anything ab the other foxes beyond what neil knows himself#and LEST I FORGET.
