The Wayhaven Chronicles - Update 26/Jan/2024

I did something this week I don’t normally do: I rewrote Adam/Ava’s scene as I was writing it.

Normally, when I do rewrites, I will keep going with the scene I’m on and then decide afterwards. It’s surprising how things change once the whole scene is written! But something just wasn’t quite right with how I wanted their opening to be.

It didn’t match with the ‘vibe’ I wanted for the love interest openings.

Book Four starts out with quite the punch, which I always love doing with getting straight into some action and drama, hehe! :D

But unlike Book Three where it continued on with drama for a bit, I wanted to slow things down. Have a chance to spend some time with the love interest properly, especially as Book Four is pretty darn intense!

And A’s just felt too…drama, lol!

Obviously, this is A’s scene, so some drama and angst is always expected, but their romance might not be what people expect in Book Four considering the ending to it in Book Three.

A’s romance is the most emotional rollercoaster romance of the lot. Up and down, down and up! And there may just be more up in this book than down…before the plummet that may just come in the oft-talked about major angsty painful Book Five, hehe! ;D

So yeah, it just wasn’t working, so I made the decision to scrap it and redo it long before I would normally. And it was SO the right decision! Now things are flowing waaaay better, and it feels more like how the others scenes will with the love interests.

Sometimes, you have to take the pain of deleting a whole bunch just to make it shine brighter…something I know but that always makes me wince as a creator, especially after days of working on scenes!

**b4 demo spoilers** will we get any explanation as to A's sudden shift in attitude at the beginning of b4? like them being super casual and stuff. i know you said you didn't wanna make it too heavy for /reasons/ but i was just wondering it A themselves has a reason for this switchup between end of b3/start of b4. hope ur having a nice day !!

It was the ending of Book Three when A realised they love the MC.

And they already knew they loved the MC, but now they really, really know it, and they told the MC as much…well, they sort of admitted they feel something, or that they can't deny there is something—but that's what they meant, lol!

And that admission is hard to cram back down inside of them for the moment. They'll get there…but for now they can't help let those feelings stay.

Plus, I really wanted a break for the A-mancers and give them some of the nice romance too for now, especially considering what's coming in Book Five…

It’s been a minute since I’ve talked about Wayhaven but that post about N Sewell I just reblogged got me thinking.

I think it’s interesting that N and A essentially switch roles when it comes to the MC in book 3 during the love triangle route.

N is deathly afraid of something happening to the MC and losing them. Thus, they get overprotective and want to keep MC out of the action as much as possible.

A, on the other hand, goes in the opposite direction. Obviously, they don’t want anything bad to happen to the MC either. But they advocate for the MC to get the chance to protect themselves and not be kept out of the action. In fact, there are two separate occasions in book 3 where we see A get annoyed with N because they feel that they’re smothering the MC.

In book 1 however, N is the vampire who is strongly convinced that the MC deserved to know the truth. Whereas A was adamant that they be kept in the dark for their own protection.

I don’t think either one is better than the other necessarily (though I do have my preference tbh) but I think it shows that they love differently. Part of the reason A falls in love with the MC is because of how capable and strong they find them to be. The way they trust the MC to be able to handle themselves in a way they didn’t when they first met them is a form of love language for them.

N, meanwhile, becomes blinded when it comes to love as others have mentioned. I don’t think it’s a matter of them not thinking the MC is strong and capable. There’s plenty of dialogue in the books before 3 that show that’s not true at all. But they’re just so consumed with love that nothing really matters to them except making sure the MC is okay.

I would say this fit M too but it is no longer true. M romancers have graduated clown University with book 3. 🤡 🎓

Will we get to be in a relationship with Adam in book 4? Like you said this will be a seven books series, but my heart can't take it anymore if it has to be in the last books that I can be lovey dovey with him T^T And I just want to ask first to prepare mentally, not forcing you to have it in there! Adam/Ava won't get into a relationship with the MC in Book Four, but there will be much more close romance in Book Four for Adam/Ava. I really wanted to give A-mancers a bit of a break before the angsty intensity coming up when Adam/Ava takes two steps back in progress.

BUT A-mancers will be in a relationship long before the end of the series so they can enjoy actually being with A together in a couple.

I do love me some pining and angst, but even I have my limits for will-they-won't-they, lol! :D
