The 1981 abduction and murder of 6-year-old Adam Walsh went on to change law enforcement in the United States. On 27 July, 1981, Adam was abducted from a Sears department store in the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Florida. His decapitated head was discovered in a ditch two weeks later by a fisherman over 100 miles away. Authorities searched for leads, and at one point in the investigation, they even suspected that his own father, John Walsh, who would later go on to become the host of America’s Most Wanted.
The case seemed to go cold, until two years later when Ottis Toole confessed to the brutal murder before recanting. Ottis Toole and his partner, Henry Lee Lucas were the tag team from hell, having confessed to brutal hundreds of murders over the span of a few years, although only a few could be corroborated. During the investigation, authorities somehow lost Toole’s impounded car and the machete that he claimed he had killed Adam with. John Walsh still continued to suspect that Toole was the man who killed his son even though the case remained unsolved due to mishandling evidence.
John Walsh became a famous victims advocate and assisted police in closing dozens of cases. In 2008, while on his death bed, Toole confessed to his niece that he did in fact kill Adam Walsh. The police, satisfied with this confession, closed down the case.

The Abduction and Murder of Adam Walsh
On July 27, 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh was shopping with his mother Reve at Hollywood Mall in Hollywood Florida. The two went to Sears where Reve had intended to inquire about a lamp that was on sale. While she headed over to the lamp department, Adam was left at a kiosk with Atari 2600 video games on display where several other boys were taking turns playing. At 12:15pm Reve had completed her business regarding the lamp and returned to where she had left Adam only to discover that she and the boys were gone. She was then informed by a store manager that a scuffle had occurred regarding whose turn it was to play the game and security had demanded that the boys leave the store. When the guard asked the older boys if their parents were in the mall, they said no. Adam's parents had assumed that their son was too shy to speak up to the security guard and tell him that he was not will the boys, so he left with them. At the time, the parents also thought that the boys left their son by himself when they exited the store. Meanwhile, Reve looked around the toy department and could not find Adam, so she had him paged over the public-address system while she continued to look around the rest of the store. By coincidence, Reve ended up running into her mother-in-law, Jean, who helped her search for him. After more than 90 minutes of searching and failing to locate Adam, Reve called the Hollywood Police at 1:55pm.
On August 10, a severed head was found in a drainage canal alongside the Florida Turnpike near Vero Beach, which was almost 130 miles from Hollywood. The next day, Adam's parents, John and Reve had appeared on national television saying that they hoped that Adam was still alive. However, soon after the recovered remains were identified as Adam's. The coroner ruled the cause of Adam's death as being asphyxiation. The state of the remains also suggested that Adam had died several days before the discovery of his head.
American serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer was even considered as a suspect at one point as he lived in Miami Beach at the time of the murder. Two eyewitnesses also came forward saying they saw him at the mall the same day Adam was there. One claimed to see a strange man walking in the toy department while the other saw a young, blond man throw a struggling child into a blue van and drive off. When he was interviewed about Adam Walsh in 1992, Dahmer denied his involvement in the crime, stating "I've told you everything- how I killed them, how I cooked them, who I ate. Why wouldn't I tell you if I did it to someone else? When this rumor surfaced, John Walsh came forward saying that he did not see any evidence that linked Dahmer to Adam's abduction and murder.
In 2006, John and Reve Walsh reached out to former Miami Beach homicide detective Joe Matthews, who reopened the cold case. Otis Toole was a convicted serial killer who had confessed to Adam's murder twice but then recanted his confessions. Hollywood Police Detectives were unable to verify Toole's confessions due to a series of errors they made during the investigation. This includes losing the bloody carpet from Toole's car and even the car itself.
98 photos taken by Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators of Toole's Cadillac were developed and shown was a machete believed to dismember Adam's body. A particular image of the carpet behind the driver’s seat showed the bloody image of a young face. "Looking at it, you actually see a blood transfer from Adam's face onto the carpet," said Matthews.
In 2008, nearly 3 decades after the crime occurred, former Hollywood Police Chief Chad Wagner officially named Otis Toole the killer and apologized for past mistakes.
The death of Adam and his father's work as an activist has helped to put faces on milk cartons, start fingerprinting programs, and increase security at schools and stores.

The last moral panic centered on widespread physical dangers to America’s children began in the early 1980s. Several high-profile and disturbing stories became media spectacles, including the 1981 murder (and then beheading) of 6-year-old Adam Walsh, who was abducted from a Sears department store in Hollywood, Florida. The Adam Walsh story was made into a TV movie that aired on NBC in October 1983, the same year that the 1979 disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz was fictionalized in the theatrically released movie Without a Trace.
Adam’s father, John Walsh, who later spent more than two decades as the host of America’s Most Wanted, claimed that 50,000 children were abducted “for reasons of foul play” in the United States every year. He warned a Senate subcommittee in 1983: “This country is littered with mutilated, decapitated, raped, strangled children.” In response, Congress passed two laws—establishing a nationwide hotline and creating the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The panic prompted the building of shopping-mall kiosks where parents could fingerprint or videotape their children to make them easier for police to identify. According to the sociologist David Altheide, it also led to the advertising of dental-identification implants for people who did not yet have their permanent teeth, as well as the creation of a cottage industry of missing-child insurance to cover the cost of private detectives in the event of an abduction. As a 1986 story in The Atlantic recounted, the nonprofit National Child Safety Council printed photos of missing children on 3 billion milk cartons; a person would have had to be paying close attention to notice that all the photos were of the same 106 faces. (The photos also appeared on grocery bags, Coca-Cola bottles, thruway toll tickets, and pizza boxes.) “Ordinary citizens may have encountered explicit reminders of missing children more often than for any other social problem,” the sociologist Joel Best wrote in 1987.
The fear of stranger abduction was partly a product of the cultural environment at the time. “Family values” political rhetoric drove paranoia about the drug trade, pornography, and crime. Second-wave feminism had encouraged more women to enter the workforce, though not without societal pressure to feel guilt and anxiety about leaving their children at home alone, or in the care of strangers. The divorce rate was rising, and custody battles were becoming more common, leading to the complicated legal situation of “family abduction,” or “child snatching.”
Yet there was still a backstop, a way for the panic to end. The Denver Post won a Pulitzer Prize for its 1985 story laboriously debunking the statistics that had caused such widespread alarm. The actual number of children kidnapped by strangers, according to FBI documentation, turned out to be 67 in 1983, up from 49 in 1982. A two-part PBS special explained the statistics and addressed the role that made-for-TV movies and media coverage had played in stoking the fire; a study conducted in 1987 by Altheide and the crime analyst Noah Fritz found that three-quarters of viewers who had previously considered “missing children” a serious problem changed their minds immediately after watching it. With the arrival of better information, the missing-children panic faded.
But decades later, fears have flared again. “You know how they used to have the kids on the milk cartons way back in the day?” Jaesie Hansen, a Utah-based mother of four who sells Operation Underground Railroad and #SaveOurChildren decals on Etsy, asked me in July. “That wouldn’t even be a possibility now, because there’s so many kids. There’s not enough milk cartons to put them on.”

Adam Walsh - six year old son of John Walsh - was kidnapped in Hollywood, Florida on July 27th, 1981. Fourteen days later, his severed head was the only body part to be discovered. Following the crime, Walsh and his family founded the Adam Walsh Child Resource Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to legislative reform, and eventually merged with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), where Walsh still serves on the Board of Directors.
The Walsh family organized a political campaign to help missing and exploited children, which eventually led to the creation of the Missing Children Act of 1982 and the Missing Children's Assistance Act of 1984.
The four-time Emmy nominated made-for-TV movie Adam was seen by over thirty eight million people in October 1983. At the end of each broadcast, a series of missing children's photographs were displayed for viewers, and a phone number was provided if a viewer had any information about them.
One of these photographs was of a young Bizzy Bone [of the rap group Bone-Thugs-n-Harmony].
When Bizzy was four years old, his then-stepfather Byron McCane - former Pittsburgh Steelers fullback - kidnapped Bizzy and his two older sisters. Told that his mother and grandmother were dead, Bizzy was unaware he had been kidnapped and displaced. For nearly two years, Bizzy and his sisters were forced from shelter to shelter, apartment to apartment, car to car and motel to motel, state to state - all while local agencies and eventually the FBI were searching for them.
Prior to being rescued, Bizzy was molested by the son of a friend of Byron. Too young to understand the atrocity of the act, he kept it to himself for years. A neighbor alerted the FBI after she viewed Adam, and at seven years old, Bizzy was reunited with his mother.
But despite the reunion with his family, his troubles were yet to be over. After the reunion, Bizzy became the new stepson to his mother's new husband - another abusive stepfather who was also physically abusive towards Bizzy. When his mother could stand no more of the abuse, she left the new husband and their life behind; Bizzy was placed in a foster home. At thirteen he became involved in street life and gang activity, before forming Bone-Thugs-n-Harmony.

Republicans for Kamala is taking off and includes some high profile former office holders and staffers. This is more than just the usual handful of mid level and obscure officials.
At least three former governors including Jim Edgar of Illinois (1991-1999) have publicly announced their support for the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Nine days into her 2024 candidacy, Vice President Kamala Harris picked a couple of notable Republican endorsements: Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan threw his support behind the Democrat fairly quickly, and John Giles, the mayor of Mesa, Arizona’s third-largest city, endorsed her soon after. Given the state of the cotemporary GOP, it’s not easy for any Democratic candidate to pick up cross-party backing, so this represented a decent start. But hanging overhead was an obvious question: Would other Republicans soon follow? The question received a rather emphatic answer over the weekend. NBC News reported: >> The Harris campaign on Sunday unveiled more than two dozen endorsements from Republicans, including former governors, members of Congress and Trump administration officials. Many of the endorsements came from politicians who were already openly critical of former President Donald Trump, including former Republican Gov. Bill Weld of Massachusetts; former Rep. Denver Riggleman, R-Va.; and former Trump administration press secretary Stephanie Grisham.<< Those names are, of course, just a sampling. According to a press statement from the incumbent vice president’s campaign, Republicans for Harris includes endorsements from former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye; former Secretaries Chuck Hagel and Ray LaHood; former Governors Jim Edgar, Bill Weld, and Christine Todd Whitman; former U.S. House members Rod Chandler, Tom Coleman, Dave Emery, Wayne Gilchrest, Jim Greenwood, Adam Kinzinger, John LeBoutillier, Susan Molinari, Jack Quinn, Denver Riggleman, Claudine Schneider, Christopher Shays, Peter Smith, Alan Steelman, David Trott, and Joe Walsh; and former GOP State Chair and State Senator Chris Vance, among others. “As a proud conservative, I never thought I’d be endorsing a Democrat for President,” Kinzinger said in a written statement. “But, I know Vice President Harris will defend our democracy and ensure Donald Trump never returns to the White House. Donald Trump poses a direct threat to fundamental American values. He only cares about himself, and his pursuit of power. “That’s what we saw on January 6 when he sent a mob to overturn our lawful election, who violently attacked law enforcement and ransacked our nation’s Capitol in the process,” the former member of the Jan. 6 committee added. “There’s too much at stake to sit on the sidelines, which is why I wholeheartedly endorse Kamala Harris for president. Now is the time for us all to unite to save our democracy and defeat Donald Trump one last time.”

Shifting Gears (2018) - M. Emmet Walsh
This is suppose to be a family movie, but John Ratzenberger and M. Emmet Walsh ruined it for me. Why? I kept masturbating to the both of them.

The decision to kill off Maggie Walsh and replace her with Adam as the Big Bad basically halfway through the season is so fucking weird. The pacing of it is fucked. We spend 13 episodes slowly building up the Initiative and Walsh, only for Walsh to be abruptly killed off, the Initiative plot line and story significance to go spinning off in an entirely different direction, and now we have to sit here and listen to a pretentious asshole pontificating in a cave while accomplishing nothing. And then come the climax it turns out Adam’s master plan is more or less what Walsh had been planning all along, making him even more pointless.
Look, if you want to have a shocking twist change out of the Big Bad, you have to either do it at the very beginning of the season — like Spike & Drusilla replacing the Anointed One in s2 — or at the very end of the season — like Dark Willow in s6.

Seamus is the 17th regimental mascot of the Irish Guards and was acquired from his breeder in North Yorkshire in October 2020.
He spent four weeks with his new handler, Drummer Adam Walsh, from Dublin, at the Defence Animal Training Centre at Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, before officially joining the regiment.
As part of his training, he was familiarised with military music and the Regimental Band of the Irish Guards.
Seamus lives alongside the guardsmen and attends recruiting events and ceremonial occasions.
