Perfect

Rated G. Prompt: Over your shoulder from The way you said "I love you."

It was a perfect day. The sun was shining. The breeze was cool. His favorite person in all the world was by his side. They had walked into town together, and shared an ice cream cone on the steps outside the little store. Then, they followed that up with a trip to the nearby orchard. His favorite part of that bit of the day was when the grumpy man who lived nearby came out of his house in order to be very loud and very grumpy in their general direction. His person had laughed, and had started running through the trees.

Running! That was a marvelous thing to do, especially on a day like today and with a person like his person. So he ran, too, with his heart full of joy and love. When they arrived at this field, and his person had taken the fabric disk out of the bag he carried on his back, his heart leapt again.

This was his favorite toy! He didn’t even wait for his person to throw it. He took off like a shot across the field in anticipation. When he heard the disk spinning toward him though the air, he looked over his shoulder and jumped. He twisted in the air, and his teeth snapped shut on the disk. He landed with a solid thump, then raced back to his person with his prize.

It really was a perfect day.

You know, I feel like we're not talking enough about the fact that Alastor has in his room a full reproduction (?) of a swamp-forest that's highly likely very similar to the one where he was killed. Talk about being morbid.

Edit: someone pointed out in the comments that the swamp-forest is called bayou. It's a kind of ecosystem in Louisiana.
