this prompt for this au is absolutely iconic ily ❣️❣️

Ava makes the mistake of heading to the ER's doctor's lounge instead of trekking back up to the CT floor, needing any moment of rest she can steal ten hours into a twelve hour shift. But when she enters the room, Will, Natalie, and April all stop talking, instantly and badly acting like they're focused on random things. Ava rolls her eyes, resisting the urge to tug her lab coat back over her abdomen. "God, you can just ask."

Natalie holds up her hands in a gesture of innocence, and Will grimaces and looks away, but April offers an awkward smile. "Congratulations...?"

"Yes," Ava confirms, the word ending in a hiss of irritation. "I'm pregnant. And I was really hoping I could avoid becoming everyone's business."

"Sorry," Will says sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"How are you doing?" April asks, a mixture of curiosity and compassion in her eyes. Honestly, Ava doesn't want either.

"I'm alright, just tired," she answers, her gaze drifting away. She sinks down onto the couch, hoping for a moment to close her eyes, but Natalie speaks before she can actually relax.

"So, Ava," she says, lips pursed, clearly going for nonchalance, "who..."

"I'm not going to talk about that," Ava says, a little more sharply than she means. Between the ache between her eyes and the fuss happening around her, she's at the end of a quickly-fraying rope. But her attempt to firmly end the conversation is foiled by Will.

"Nat," he says, not even doing Ava the kindness of actually addressing her, "it's gotta be Connor."

Ava drops her head into her hands-- she's too stressed and tired to argue, and besides, any protest she could make would only make him more certain.

"Wait, Ava, did you sleep with him?" There's an added weight to the couch, telling her Natalie has taken a seat next to her. She doesn't answer, fast regretting inviting this conversation at all.

"Hey," April interjects, "are we maybe crossing a line? Ava, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

"Thank you, April," she sighs. "I don't-- I don't mind people knowing, I just don't want to be everyone's gossip. It feels..." she shudders, picking up her head and running her hands through her hair. "...gross."

She almost regrets her wording at the look on Natalie's face, but really, she can't spare much energy for comforting the other woman, even if her intentions are harmless.

"Hey, sorry," Will offers. "Congratulations. And it's... none of our business."

"Of course not," Nat agrees. "Sorry, Ava. If you need anything, just ask, okay? I'm happy to help."

Ava knows the offer is genuine, but she can't help but feel that she's not sure she knows her well enough to take her up on it. Another thing that's not Natalie's fault; she never really feels like she can connect with people easily, even when there's no reason they shouldn't be her friends. Again, she closes her eyes, too tired to voice any of this. "Thank you, Natalie," she murmurs, her voice almost too quiet for anyone to hear.

"Hey, let's clear out," Will suggests. "I can't even imagine what surgery shifts are like when you're wiped out like this."

"I'll come get you if you're needed for a patient," April promises.

"Good luck, Ava," Natalie says, her hand brushing her shoulder.

Ava makes herself open her eyes to smile gratefully at them. "Thank you."

It's not enough, but it's something.

#my dc posting #dc #bruce wayne #batman #i dont read comics bc bruce is such an abusive asshole. instead i read 'happy' batfam fic- most of which has bruce be an abusive asshole #but no don't worry. at the end after countless mistakes and mistreatment of his kids he'll tell them he loves them and they'll forgive him #immediately and everything will be rainbows and sunshine #he just has issues with communication 💞 he loves them so much he just don't know how to show it >_> once he does though #everything he's done will be excused and ignored in favour of a cute lil family hug <3 isn't this such good parenting #it is genuinely so disturbing to read that over and over again bc the writers don't realize how horrific that is so it's not tagged w the #proper warnings #once again. most fics start out good w bruce fucking up monumentally and it rly explores how the kids feel and cope w it and it's just #so good #and then the moment the 'making up' moment comes on it's like i've gone from a gourmet meal to a trash-bin half-eaten burger #at this point i oftentimes just stop reading the moment the Big Clarification of the misunderstanding comes up bc it's just immediately #gonna turn into ''oops silly bruce is a lil silly and feels soooo bad and Hugs His Kid once (1) solving all of the issues''#and see the thing is. i like bruce!!! i like batman!!!! just when he's not written like this :)#well no actually i still like him as a character even when he's being shitty. but not when the narrative bends over backwards to excuse #his actions. yknow?#there's so many fics with so many good premises and so many fascinating ways they could explore the characters and their relationships #but the moment batman is put into the mix it feels like everyone's brains turn off to dickride him as the Ultimate Father who just has a fe #issues #this is like my 10th post on this topic. but it's so common and keeps happening!! that i keep having more thoughts and complaints abt it!!!

#well thats okay. eventually itll come up naturally. and if not well. it doesnt make me feel very okay. but its not a big deal #and i guess ill meet ppl in the future who will curate a different idea of me and maybe therell be fewer misunderstandings #<- coward who CAN communicate to save their life but not in any lower stakes situation for their happiness n quality of life #we <3 repression n insecurity. maybe if i keep digging at the corner of this bit of the labyrinth with my spoon ill get out someday 😌#anyway.. theres my daily vague vent post got it out of my system #wanted to do it earlier but ended up not having much time after work n then called friends which was nice :^)#also i never have signal at work these days.. my boss has said shell get me on the staff wifi tho cuz i do need it for work reasons #its rare to need it for work purposes bc we all use work pcs n stuff anyway and not rly supposed to use mobiles in the lab #but yeahh.. god i have so much admin shit to sort out also gotta text family back before i sleep i forgot to earlier #its all good.. also my memory foam pillows turned up so i no longer have to steal my roomies extra one for my neck pain <3 #ik she was missing it... not to sound like a creep but it was nice that it smelled like her a little. just familiar innit #we're always around each other so its just what being home smells like to me.. listen i have a sensitive nose 😔✋️#if we were a lot closer i would ask if i could sleep in her bed while shes away but we're not so it would come across sooo weird..#and i would feel rly weird abt someone sleeping in my own room without me there. well maybe not actually. as long as they werent snooping #<- guy whose mother used to go thru their shit all the time n struggles to not feel paranoid and distrustful when it comes to privacy #was thinking recently my ideal living situation w a partner would be separate rooms but we still share the bed sometimes #but not every night bc im a sensitive sleeper... but we can switch bedding so i can still smell them if i wake up in the night alone #like how new mothers trying to get babies used to cot sleeping each have a cloth or blanket and swap every night #so the baby is comforted by the blankets smell and sleeps more peacefully.. and momma finds it easier being apart from the baby too #sorry this is getting gooey and weird my meds have been wearing off the last couple hours im so sleeppyyyy 😭#well.... maybe everything can wait until tomorrow..... bed is calling..#goodnight everyone muah #.diaries

1 day i will make a meta of sansa's dynamic with her metaphorical champions/suitors & how that correlates to the ashford theory (i.e sansa being betrothed to joffrey baratheon, then promised to willas tyrell, then being married to tyrion lannister, then being married to harry hardying then married to aegon vi targaryen & aurane velaryon but it is not this day. lmao. when i make that meta it'll be so over for y'all.

#just know that. she never marries after aurane. btw lmao #like if he like g-d forbid ever died before she did she'd like. literally never marry or love again like. thats it lmfao #but anyway like. she has a complicated relationship w/ all of them tbh & reflects on them sometimes.#she obviously hates joffrey for him abusing her but like. she can't help but feel sad for him at times bc like. he was so young.#if he had the right people around him maybe he would've turned out okay eventually. but it didnt happen. she never met willas but sometimes #she wondered what it would've been like to be lady of highgarden but she hopes he's doing alright. her dynamic w/ tyrion is. complicated #like. he was never like openly cruel to her or anything & she's grateful to him for saving her life & standing up for her but like.#there's always that grief surrounding their families & i think she resented & mostly afraid of him at the time but in hindsight she's+#grateful that he never hurt her or forced himself on her. harry she hardly knew unfortunately but like she disliked him at first #but then he actually seemed to warm up to her & she had him tied around her lil finger but she knows that she wouldn't like to be married+#to a guy who actually has children w/ sb else. like. she's seen how that played out & while she wouldn't be mean it makes her uncomfortable #but especially surrounding aegon bc like. she's not naive enough to say she loved him but like. she actually LIKED him #like. while she was wary of him at first she warmed up to him & genuinely respected him as a person & most importantly aegon was her FRIEND #they got along rly well due to their similar upbringings & what they had to do to survive & like. he's actually a decent guy in canon. lmao #he's handsome & was chivalrous & honorable & sweet w/ her but also like batshit insane in a good way. like.#he was the golden prince she always wanted since she was a little girl; the prince that joffrey was supposed to be but never was.#he gave her a future as queen of westeros that was originally HERS. so when daenerys eventually executes him she has mixed feelings about i #aegon was good to her & she'd vowed not to betray him & she actually intended to keep that vow. to her she was forever in his debt+#he gave her a future from her isolation & suffering @ winterfell bc of how much everything changed & he waited for her to love him back.#he actually showed her respect & gave her a solid future when she felt alone & abandoned & led her gently into a world of his own making+#& gave her back her honor & a future. esp when the north was divided between jon rickon & herself. most preferred jon or rickon over her.#without aegon's intervention she probably would've had to marry some northern lord below her station. the winterfell succession crisis wild #but aurane velaryon? that's the love of her life. her bold captain. he taught her how to love & coaxed her in the sun to bloom & freed her.#freed her from the chains of her family obligations. he taught her to break the rules of tradition & follow her heart & trust her instincts #he was there with her in her darkest hour. he quite literally saved her life & defended her honor when no one else had the balls to do that #no one looks @ or touches her the way aurane does she loved him madly truly & deeply he took her girlhood in his stride but when autumn cam #she escaped & had to push him into the deepest recesses of her mind in the name of survival & pragmatism but she never stopped loving him.#& his sweet memory brought too much heartache & bittersweetness for her. she lowkey waited for him for years. & they EVENTUALLY reunited !#he fought & got legitimized for HER. she's. so genuinely happy w/ that man. he's one of her best friends & the father to her children.

You had asked him years ago to explain everything to allow the secret he had kept so long to be heard by someone he trusted to help him heal. Since then the pregnancy had turned into a nine-month countdown to the date. The small kicks he felt every night fought desperately against the feeling, the reminder. The life you were carrying to involve him in a never-ending circle of happiness was already trying to heal their dad. Leon was too good of a man to let this affect the relationship with the child, besides due dates can be wrong all the time. Sometimes the baby will come later, he might be lucky.

You watched him become nervous as the countdown began as you were in the final weeks of the pregnancy. It became a routine for Leon to stare at the red circle every morning as he made breakfast and coffee. Only getting worse since the date was only a few days away at this point. The nursery was completely decorated with things you had both collected yourselves and had been given in the baby shower. All of the baby grows were washed and put away, a large stockpile of diapers in the changing table ready to be used up. You were both just waiting on the baby.

“Good morning” You spoke softly as you entered the room. Your voice is now the only thing taking his attention away from the calendar. Leon smiled at you, his oversized shirt draped over your body. “Morning” He mumbled, hand instantly smoothing the fabric smiling at the little kicks that greeted him. It wasn’t unusual for him to be awake early, his military timer being one of the things that never left him. You tried to hide it, you really did but Leon didn’t miss the twinge of pain in your face. The small adjustment you gave yourself as pain washed over you. “Are you alright?” He asked ignoring your previous question entirely. His touch was gentle a simple reminder of his support. You nodded muttering a small ‘yes’ despite your features clenched together displaying otherwise. His hand moved gently on your lower back, the movements distracting you from the pain. You knew what the date was but you also knew what the pain meant. You just didn’t have the heart to tell him yet. After spending the whole night hoping that maybe it was just a Braxton hix and they would fade away eventually. However, the world wasn’t that kind. “Love, please don’t lie to me. To his credit he worked quickly, gathering the bag and items you had prepared and putting them into the car. He was careful as he led you towards the car. He thought he would be more lost today, that the date would distract him from being present with you. It did occasionally, every time someone would remind you both of the fact the baby was arriving on your due date he would go silent. Get lost in his mind again. Only to be brought back by a softer comment from you or your touch. The same way you would normally bring him back after spending years with him.

When getting himself coffee or ice chips for you; he would make sure to avoid the ER, the screams triggering his flashbacks. You were proud of him, he never let it show. Despite the circumstances, you knew he would be the best partner you could get in this situation.

You tried to hold back from making any sound but the more you needed to push the louder you got. He didn’t blame you, he could see that you were trying for his sake. The hospital was already proving to be challenging with all of the other mothers throughout the day going through the same process just a few rooms down. The wails reminded him of all the distant ones he heard as he ran around the police station, of all the people he couldn’t save as he was trapped inside. Your deeper groans of pain sounded similar to Marvin’s as he spoke helping Leon out of the station.

You felt his presence, but he wasn’t there, his eyes watching over you with that hazed look again. You wouldn’t hold it against him; it was enough that he was here physically. You knew he hated the hospital, the sounds of everyone injured and in pain. You’ve spent countless times trying to force him to get his sickness checked out by doctors instead of googling the symptoms. However, you knew that once the noise reduced, he would come back, and he would enjoy the moment.

Guilt washed over him as he held the baby the small bundle watching him with curious eyes. You were asleep, having some well-deserved rest. The machines beeped around him, the noise of the hospital fading as he looked back into those blue eyes. They were so small in his arms, their head cradled perfectly in the palm of his hand. This is what he endured and fought for that night, the chance to have a life at the end of it. To have happiness and love surround him in even the smallest ways. Leon didn’t know he was going to be tracked down and blacked mailed by the government for just surviving the events of Raccoon City.
