can't believe i have to say this, but apparently it needs saying: it's really fucked up to say someone deserves to be disabled. point blank. end of story.

I was checking the warnings for Moana 2 and felt the need to share this after seeing the flashing warnings. I personally won鈥檛 be able to see this film because of how much there is.

I'm absolutely terrified and living with the fear that my seizures are going to kill me.
I was taken to the hospital yet again the other day due to one that caused me to completely stop breathing.
It's such a terrifying thing to live with, and I don't wish this on anybody. I think the scariest thing is going to sleep and wondering if I'm going to wake up in the morning.
I know I should be taking it one day at a time, but every single day is hard when you have limited independence because of what your body is making you go through.

Hey Tumblr, if I select "never auto-play" for GIFs and videos, this also goes for banners. And this also goes for previews.
GIFs in the preview/background when you open a tag shouldn't auto-play. Your banners we see when we open the app shouldn't auto-play.
It's overstimulating for me and it's extremely unsafe for epileptics, people with migraines, and other photosensitive people. Everything that moves can be a trigger, not only flashing lights.
This isn't a "Please, that would be very nice", this is a "You could be responsible for an epileptic not being able to drive for 6 months because of one (1) small absence seizure".
It has real consequences, and you constantly forget photosensitive people, to say the least.
Photosensitive people can avoid unsafe apps if they know they're unsafe. But you provide the option to disable auto-play. You make people think that it's safe for them to use your app. They let their guard down. They think it's fine.
Only for you to make it unsafe again all of a sudden. That's a real asshole move tbh.

Please stop underestimating what visuals (and scents for irl!) can give people seizures/migraines/etc.
Different people have different triggers and levels of sensitivity. Brightly colored text, subtle pulsing/flashing lights, slow gifs, huge bursts of different colors in static images, anything that can cause eye strain, lots of emojis, lots of different text formatting -- these things are not necessarily safe or tame. Tag your shit.

Please keep in mind your epileptic friends this disability pride/awareness month! We are consistently being left out and ignored by everyone and it鈥檚 VERY disheartening and it鈥檚 a life-impacting disability to have. Please don鈥檛 forget about us.

So - I have been talking a lot to people without epilepsy about epilepsy recently, in part due to my recent video essay. One thing I have taken away from the talks is, that schools, staff, teachers AND students need to learn first-aid. As a mandatory thing. Not just as an optional extra curricular. It's not enough to just teach the teachers, but also students need to learn about health conditions and how to react. e.g.
How to apply an Epi-Pen What is Diabetes Stroke Heart Infact CPR Epilepsy First Aid... It's not just mental health awareness and education, we need health awareness and education, and more of it. Why does it have to take somebody having an emergency for people to learn about the first aid after the emergency happened?
If you work anywhere! Or if you are active anywhere no matter where, initiate getting some first aid training for everyone. There is probably also some subsidies and funds, tax incentives etc for some companies and organisations who do this sort of stuff!

the spiritfarer devs continue to refuse to add a flash toggle and claim their game is safe even after learning that their game caused at least one person to have a seizure. screenshots (alt text available):

link to their photosensitivity warning page where they claim the game is safe for photosensitive people:
the spiritfarer devs already have a history of ableism, so this really isn鈥檛 a huge surprise

when i go to a venue's website and see "you don't have to pay extra for accessible seating!" i am, in fact, not reassured at all but instead am actually full of disgust that that concept would exist at all

Woke up extremely fatigued (more often than usual). I had no idea why until I realized that I had been biting my cheek in my sleep. It's now very sore and swollen. I suspect that I had a seizure in my sleep but I'm hoping that's not the case.
Joys of living with a seizure disorder.
