last anon here, i'm transmasc and have had maybe the worst time possible on tumblr trying to find community here wrt my gender without accidentally falling into discourse and transphobia over and over again. in the face of feeling like i don't have anywhere i belong and that everyone else fuckin hates me for no reason, your blog is just so refreshingly Normal. i don't think you're particularly extraordinary or anything but it was just nice to see you rb that post about trans guys who get pregnant after me having a weird gender morning, so thank you. i can still kill in your name if you want though

i try and look at the discourse and stuff i see re: trans men especially with like... as much empathy and compassion as i can. a lot of the vitriol slung towards us on this platform are from our fellows who are hurting just as much as we are. sometimes it's because they don't realize what they're saying is hurtful, and sometimes it's because it is an unfortunately very human compulsion to try and grab control of whatever you can when you feel like you don't have anything you can control in your life. this isn't excusing some of the stuff i've seen said by any stretch, but it does kinda keep me from getting like........ doom spiral upset or angry about it. (not that i think that's what you're doing! just that it's how i process my own feelings about it)

i also think a lot of marginalized folk never really learned how to properly unpack their disgust responses to certain situations. we live in a society 🤡 that's very reactionary (at least, a lot of western societies are reactionary by nature, esp the United States), and it makes sense that when you've been geared up to React on a dime to something you don't really feel that you have the time to sit and deconstruct what it is you're actually doing. a lot of us haven't been taught to dig through why we feel the ways we feel about different people in our community, about why some other people would want to undergo their journey w their sexuality or gender differently from us, about why other people would think about things differently from us at all. and i know that can feel contradictory, because it is, when being in the queer community is entirely about transgression against strictly adhering to what's considered "normal" or "standard" in sexuality and sex and gender. but honestly i think so many people don't realize that coming to terms w yourself and walking away from your oppressive or stifling upbringing is only step 1, and step 2 is unlearning everything you were taught. my personal motto is "if it's not hurting anyone in any tangible way, or if the people it might theoretically be hurting are of sound mind and consenting to that, why should i actually care?" i try not to reblog discourse-type posts in general unless i 100% back what they're saying.

anyways point being is that like. it's not your job to teach anyone what they're doing and saying is wrong but it helps me, personally, to understand that a lot of the time they don't really realize they're being harmful and in fact think they're being helpful and advocating for the community. and i know it's a meme to say "people need to log off and go touch grass" but i honest to god really do think a lot of the really dumb and frustrating discourse i see on this site would just disappear if everyone spouting it logged off and talked to another queer human person face to face. which i understand is not something everyone can do. does not mean it would not help them lol.

people in the community IRL often just aren't talking about the things we see from the community online. they're all fuckin living their lives and using whatever labels and naming conventions they think feel right without caring about, like.... defining them. if you have a queer presence in your area at all and you're able to go to in-person things it might help a lot of the frustration and hurt you're feeling to see if they have any meetups you can attend? literally just googling like, "lgbt [CITY NAME HERE]", you can usually find some kind of pride alliance or LGBT org, and those things are almost always doing movie nights and meetups and stuff. you do have a place and you are wanted and i'm sorry you've been subjected to seeing shit that's made you feel in any way otherwise.

You know what, I think the reason why the Snitch is worth 150 points is rooted in siblings bullshittery.

It was originally worth 15 points, and then playing in the backyard some eldest sibling was a sore loser and said it was fifty not fifteen, which later changed to hundred and fifty when somebody was updating the official rule book. They accidentally combined the 15 and 50 thing, and everybody just went along with it.

TW: body horror, panic attack, lots of anxiety

Tango is a being of emotion.

Whether the fires of passion and rage that consumed him in the Life games, to the ice cold loneliness he felt after the fact when he realized his soulmate was gone, the man has had plenty of practice in letting his feelings flow through him, empower him, become the fuel that kept him going. 

So when he receives Jimmy’s message in the world chat, every single alarm bell in his head sounding that something was wrong, Jimmy is in trouble, go help him, go find your rancher…

Well, Tango felt his feet hit the sand before he even had the conscious thought of going to find the sheriff.

He can’t help the feeling of worry that pools in his gut as he nears the town, ignoring the gritting sensation of the wind-tossed sand flying in his face, his clothes, his hair. His mind is frantic and flickering as the possibilities flare to life, all the groundless worst case scenarios painting a baseless picture of ash and ruin. 

The smell of singed sand rises in the air, causing Tango to pause, looking back at the course he was taking. A series of smoking footprints trail behind him, some flames still burning in his wake despite the fact the only fuel was the sand and the hot desert sun. He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose as he attempts to steady his breathing.

He has no reason to be getting this upset, no valid explanation for the uncanny fear that’s taken residence in his chest. He shouldn’t even be worried, for void’s sake. After all, Jimmy was talking after a few days of radio silence, and nothing he had said was wrong, or bad, or even troublesome, but for some reason the ice blue flames on Tango’s head were roaring like a bonfire three times their size. 

Maybe if he just… reads the message again, he’ll calm down. He can rationalize, go check in Jimmy without the threat of accidentally burning the town to the ground, and just catch up with the sheriff. It had been a while since they’ve gotten the chance to chat, Tango getting caught up in helping FWhip with his Empire and Jimmy’s never-ending feud with Joel. 

Tango hums absentmindedly as he walks, pulling up the world chat on his communicator.

Jimmy: Renovations in Tumble Town. For safety purposes, visitors are banned until further notice.

See? Nothing to worry about. He was fine, there was nothing wrong with Jimmy. Tumble Town was just changing, so he was probably busy. Everything was fine.

Someone should notify Tango’s emotions of that message, because the pit of worry in his gut only grows. Whoever said anxiety was a rainy emotion must not have known what they were talking about, because the smoke pillaring into the sky from the icy blue flames in his hair seemed to perfectly match the hot sparks of panic in Tango’s chest.

He really needs to find Jimmy before he sets the entire desert ablaze over paranoia.

Because that’s all it could be. Paranoia. He was getting worried over nothing. He can’t feel Jimmy’s pain anymore, he has no reason, no way of knowing the sheriff is hurting or in any kind of danger. Then again, it also meant he isn’t sure Jimmy isn’t, either. 

He had never missed the soulbond more.

The wave of relief that crashes over him when the familiar walls of Tumble Town rise in the distance is hardly enough to quell the burning emotion inside of him, but it does dim the glow to a more reasonable proportion. Nothing is on fire- well, aside from Tango himself- and no screams are to be heard. In fact, it's a typical quiet desert day.

Nothing like Tango would expect from a place undergoing heavy renovations.

He tries to keep himself in check as he nears Tumble Town, doing his level best to not let his growing unease affect him. Everything is normal, any traces of the claimed construction nowhere to be seen. The only out of the ordinary occurrence is the fact that, despite the sun barely even beginning to dip past its midday point in the sky, the lights in the sheriff office are completely off. Jimmy usually keeps the lights on to let people know they could come in and receive help from the sheriff if they needed it.

Tango’s traitorous brain considers truly for the first time that something is actually wrong. That he isn’t imagining things. That Jimmy…

He needs to find his rancher.

The blaze hybrid takes a deep breath, steadying his nerves. “Jimmy? Where are you?” 

Silence.

A fiery man’s sinking heart.

Then, so soft it was nearly imperceptible, a sniffle.

Tango swings his head around, attempting to pinpoint the origin of the sound. His blue eyes land on the dark sheriff’s office, and his heart sinks as a small, pitiful whine comes from inside. He isn't sure he’s ever moved faster than he does in that moment, the door opened and shut before he even processed the fact that his feet were moving, creaking against the wooden planks. “Jimmy? Jimmy, are you ok? What’s-“

“Tango, you shouldn’t be here. It’s not safe.” A hoarse whisper sounds from the back corner of the room, shrouded in shadows from the lack of lights. Tango fights back a cringe at the sound of the voice he knew so well, which was oddly lifeless and wooden.

TW: body horror, death (life series, not really descriptive)

Some people love the toy gag, others are tired of it, I just find it a fascinating plot hook whether he is a toy or not. The head canon that Joel calling Jimmy a toy repeatedly actually turns him into one is everywhere and I love the concept. While brainrotting over this, I had an idea.

Imagine with me, for a moment.

Jimmy is a completely normal human, has been for as long as he can remember. He wholeheartedly knows it, and so does everyone around him. It’s just Jimmy, the completely normal human. Sure, he struggles with his self image a bit, but confidence is key! Fake it til you make it!

The life series happen. He dies first once. Twice. He’s not quite sure when or how it started, but people start calling him a canary. The canary in the coal mine, simply an omen of the death to come. A shock of yellow in the dark and grim, extinguished too soon. He thought nothing of it. It was just a phrase, a nickname. Nothing of any real importance, not definitive about him in particular.

Then he met his soulmate.

It only made sense it was through death, an explosion, the first death on the server. Tango being the coal mine to his canary, they said. The parallels grew, the amount of people mentioning it grew, the amount of times he heard the word canary as synonymous for him grew. 

It wasn’t even always bad. Tango called him Songbird as a term of endearment, and it was rarely ever said with truly malicious intent. 

But just because it wasn’t bad didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.

It hurt when he bolted upright in the middle of the night, back feeling like it was on fire. It hurt as he barely choked back a scream, the skin on his back ripping open. It hurt when hollow bones and bloody golden feathers tore through the gaps. It hurt when fully grown wings developed in a matter of minutes, while Grian had described the process of his own wings growing as a weekslong process, from the forming to the baby wings bursting out to the wings being large enough to fly. It hurt when he cried, even as Tango held his hands, fretting and confused.

But he pushed through it, because that’s what Jimmy did. When things went wrong, when the universe had determined he was the perfect punching bag, he kept going, to show just how poor of a decision it had been.

So he got used to the wings. Eventually learned to navigate with the new weight on his back, stopped bumping into every door frame and tree and chest. He even started building up his wing strength and resolved to talk to Grian when this mess was over to see about flying lessons.

Then he died, a third and final time, and he was thrown to a new world. When he came to, he was human again, no evidence he had ever been any different besides the dandelion yellow flowers scattered around his spawn point. Not even scars on his back where the wings had pushed through in their golden, scarlet glory.

It was just an effect of the life server, the code had gone wrong, he was back to the way he was supposed to be. All of these explanations he heard when he asked the others, most just waving it off. After all, servers changed how they looked all the time. Nothing was wrong.

Jimmy tried to believe them, he really did. But when nightmares come of blood and hollow splintered bones tearing his back to ribbons, phantom pain still making him wince, it was difficult. None of the other changes had ever been that… painful. Real. 

Still, he kept going. Found a desert, built up a town, established a law. He was a sheriff now, dedicated to his Empire and making sure things were right. So what if a stuck-up god decided to make fun of him? So what if he was called pathetic, a toy? Those things didn’t define him. He was human, through and through, no matter what he had been just a single world ago.

Even if he was shrunk by a potion. Even if the comparisons to a plaything became more and more frequent. Even as all respect for him was lost, nothing but a mockery of a sheriff.

It was after the second time getting splashed with the lore potion that it happened. He was small, they weren’t turning him back, and he was just so, so sick of all of this. The Hermits had been brought in on the joke, and now almost everyone he talked to brought it up in some way. Tango was kind enough, he didn’t, and Scott… well, Scott said other things. 

Toy.

It was almost like the word was echoing around in his head as he sat in his sheriff’s office, despite the rage it filled Jimmy with. He wasn't a toy! He was a living, breathing human being! He didn’t have plastic skin, or stuffed intestines, or a pullstring, or soulless glass eyes that couldn’t see anything, not really, not truly. 

Every time someone called him a toy seemed to flood his mind, and tears pricked his eyes. Is that really all he was to these people? To his friends?

The air suddenly grew thick and heavy, and a lightning hot pain shot through every nerve in his body. Unprepared, he fell to his knees, barely keeping a pained screech from escaping his lips. He swayed, barely keeping himself from falling over entirely. 

Jimmy didn’t know what it looked like as his insides scrambled and dissolved and hardened and numbed and hurt. All he knew was the feeling of his bones dissipating, of the phantom sensation of something stabbing his arms and legs and torso, of his back aching as something pushed its way through, so similar yet so different to the wings he had once grown to treasure.

He didn’t see the way the tears in his eyes blended in with their growing glassiness, or know how his torso looked as the organs unspooled themselves inside of him to make way for stuffing. He doesn’t realize until later that the thing protruding from his back is a pullstring, one that doesn’t give him the option of silence if used. He had to look in the mirror to notice the stitches that had woven their way into the seams of his toosofttooplushnotrealenough body. 

He avoids reflections after that, because he is not a toy, no matter what his image says. He can’t be.

He doesn’t know why this happens. Why he seems to be forced to bend to the wills of those around him, to their perceptions of him. He knows he’s human. He has a real, beating heart, even if his chest just feels full and still from the stuffing inside of it, a complete and utter lack of organs. He breathes, filling non-existent lungs with air. He thinks, he feels, even though his head is full of cotton and his face seems empty and lifeless. 

He’s- he’s human. He is, always has been, so why does he keep changing?

Maybe one day, someone will see the signs. One day, someone will tell the shapeshifter what he is, about the powers he can’t control, about how he’s not the universe’s punching bag, not on purpose. They’ll teach him to control his powers, so that he was the one who determined his form, not the whims of others.

But today is not that day. 

Today is the day a plush sheriff squares off against a god, hides from his soulmates of past lives, and longs for the ability to cry all the unshed tears in his unbeating paper heart.

Just a moody lil Sceo scene that might be expanded later:

Scott collapses the moment he reaches the bed’s edge. It’s nice to finally be off his feet—he isn’t sure how much longer he could have kept upright before passing out. It’s almost worse sitting down with the way his body bends, the movement pushing fresh blood past the coagulated mess binding flesh to polyester. He grimaces at the feeling, sickeningly warm. 

Several moments pass; Scott sits completely still, barely breathing, eyes closed tightly and one hand pressed to his middle, willing the blood to stop flowing. Waiting to welcome numbness in pain’s stead. 

When he opens his eyes Theo hasn’t moved a muscle, still standing halfway between the open door and the foot of the bed. His eyes are trained on Scott’s chest. Theo looks hunted. Not quite a deer in headlights, more like the wounded strays Scott handles at the clinic. Tense, uneasy.

 Like if scott makes one wrong move he’ll run. 

In which direction he’s not sure.

Scott feels oddly stripped, vulnerable, somehow both a threat and easy prey. He shifts uncomfortably under Theo’s gaze, wondering whether willing his hand to hide all the damage will magically make it happen. “Theo,” he starts, “You know you don’t have to…” Scott trails off, trying to read Theo’s expression. It’s unsettling, having no idea what Theo’s thinking. “I’ll heal,” he finishes. 

“You sure about that?” 

He isn’t. 

He says, “I’ve survived worse.” 

Theo visibly pales, eyes shifting from Scott to glance aimlessly around the room. Scott notices the way Theo curls his fingers inward before slipping his hands into his jacket pockets, out of sight.

created by amazing mighty around the time felys got kidnapped by a Mysterious Person™. mighty felt lonely and misses felys, and then ended up creating miaya to make him feel less lonely. ended up seeing her as his own kid which is nice :) miaya doesn't really see him as her own father by this point tho :( she also has dreams of meeting someone in the past........she just couldn't remember who it was.

3. Upshift

nothing too special about him. he's just some dj living life normally.

4. Lorn

i haven't come up with anything for her yet :/

was like ether strike back then—blinded by light. eventually cut herself off of it and swore to herself that she'll not be so naive and stubborn anymore. also met strike when he nearly died from being. you fucking guessed it. blinded by light. yippee

vampires in rhymix are rare. the few ones who were alive were then taken down (aka literally killed) by the humans to prevent anything bad happening to the humans. cybervamp is one of the last few vampires in rhymix and really does fear extinction :(

oh boy. honestly idk how to explain it in a post like this when i could just make a whole different post about it, but to sum it up quickly:

parents dead -> lives alone and overtime develops severe depression for a reason i haven't decided on yet -> got found by a group of people in her lowest moment -> got taken in by them -> eventually gets abused and changed in horrible ways possible to make her into a "perfect human being" -> gets traumatized -> eventually runs away with some other kids in the science lab place because she's experimented on in the same place as terabyte, satellite, and opia -> lives independently now

A Frictionless World Is Boring

However, the general point of that piece was to emphasise on how everything is now so frictionless, where all we have to do it sit down and stare at a six inch rectangle (or at a rectangle of any other size, as long as it's in the shape of a rectangle, or vaguely square at best), and the world will come to us, instead of us going out into the world and doing things like how we used to, even just as recently as five years ago.

A quote that stood out to me within that post was this: "There are only two industries that call their customers ‘users’: illegal drugs and software.” - Edward Tufte, which caused me to reflect on my job as a User Interface Designer that works within the software team for a software company (although I don't think anyone would be truly addicted to viewing how many bad bots are attacking their websites, since I'm just providing designs, which are essentially image stills that need to be developed and forged in extremely complicated code, but I could be wrong about someone getting addicted to some data, since all of the vanity metrics on social media are just snippets of data as well), in which I am simultaneously the consumer and the creator at the same time, to the point where my job becomes somewhat recursive as I have no choice but to stare at the screen for 8 hours to be able to design more screens for everyone else to stare at, not to mention that it feels like I'm essentially fighting fire with fire.

Additionally, that post highlights another important point: "the obsession with reducing friction in all aspects of life is simply leading to a super boring and sterile future. It’s a vision of a world of instant gratification. A world in which everything is easy. A world that requires no toil, no effort, no thinking. Ultimately, a world without connections between ourselves and the things around us – what we use, consume, possess, or even just encounter. A world without relationships! A world of abundance but no soul", which essentially provides a snapshot of the world at current (I'm writing this post the day after the post I'm discussing was published) is already frictionless as it is, what with AI being overhyped and seemingly being able to think your own thoughts for you.

I could have easily used AI to spit out a blog post about another blog post, but that wouldn't feel as rewarding as actually writing it myself, and adding my own opinions and thoughts, as well as bringing into the context of my lived experiences, not to mention that if I outsourced this to an AI, it would be incredibly soulless and fake, with no sign of my seemingly distinct and meandering writing style, so doing this myself is obviously going to take more effort, but I enjoy being able to sit with my thoughts and put them out there in my own way, so ChatGPT and any other AI bullshit can take my love of writing out of my cold dead hands, and even then, I'll still haunt those twats.

To be honest, living in a frictionless world has me feeling burnt out and overwhelmed, yet incredibly bored and disillusioned at the same time, possibly because my life is dictated by a shiny black rectangle (also dubbed as a black mirror as I can clearly see my reflection in it when the screen isn't on), to the point where this seemingly innocent and ultra convenient thing is actually a thing that plants itself firmly into my hands, grabs my head, opens my eyes wide open, and literally glues them to the damned screen, forcing me to keep using it for much longer than I would like, since it all starts with something as innocent as checking the weather or my bank accounts, before I accidentally spend 2 hours on there without realising it, or being able to recall the things that I did in that time.

Throw on the fact that I work from home about 90% of the time, and my life becomes even more frictionless, as the world ends up becoming my house (specifically my bedroom, which is my sanctuary, my workplace, my place to unwind, my place to get ready, and my bedroom in which I sleep), where everything blurs into one.

With all of this, I'm trying to add friction into my life again, which seems counterintuitive as I begin to don slightly old fashioned ways of doing things, but is something that I want to do, mainly to get away from having to depend on my phone for everything, and the first step is to remove my cards from my phone (which will force me to use my physical wallet), as well as beginning to use cash again (mainly for budgeting reasons, but also because I want to be mindful of how much money I'm actually spending instead of mindlessly tapping my physical bank card or phone at the contactless card reader every time), and using paper train tickets again (they seem cool, and you get to keep them afterwards, provided that the ticket barriers don't gobble them up), before moving on to other aspects of doing things the analogue way, such as setting an alarm with an analogue alarm clock for the winter months (I would get a digital LED alarm clock, but I don't have one of those since I already have an analogue alarm clock, although I don't set my alarm on it) and waking up with the sun (and looking at the analogue clock face to tell the time) during the summer months, as well as donning an analogue watch for when I'm about and about, putting an actual pen to an actual piece of paper again, and being alone with my thoughts instead of trying to drown them out with algorithimically curated music presented to me on Spotify, reading physical books instead of scrolling through my phone, as well as encountering new analogue ways of doing things.

This way of adding friction into my life means that I know that I'm setting out to do one thing (or a series of things, such as buying paper train tickets with cash, for instance), and that I'm only going to do that, instead of doing something completely unrelated straight after, which possibly explains the general disillusionment and overwhelm.

This is probably why I distinctly remember the days that I go into the office instead of the ones where I work from home, since there is more friction to get to the office (choose an outfit to wear for the day, the act of buying train tickets, the act of getting ready and physically getting out of the house on time, making sure that I've remembered everything that I need for the day, the act of getting to the train station on time so that I can catch the right train (which typically takes one hour, which is enough time to get me into work mode) that will get me as close to the physical office as possible (bonus points: throw in a random cancellation or delay to the journey every now and then to make the commute a little bit more spicy), the act of navigating through a sea of travellers and getting through the physical barriers at the destination train station before going on a quick 10 minute walk to get from the destination train station to the office building, and finally getting into the office itself, where I am physically sat in the same room as other people, where I sometimes go out to lunch with them, since it's a lot better than just doing it on my own, before eventually making my way home at the end of the day), as opposed to working from home (where I just grab a sweater or hoodie, get ready, rearrange my desk a bit, and turn on my work laptop), because although working from home is seemingly more efficient, it's frictionless, and sometimes can be boring, since it's just me and the work (as well as the lack of it), so naturally, I don't remember the days where I've worked from home, since it's no different to me spending a quiet weekend afternoon on my personal laptop, which requires the same amount of effort.

I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I existed as recently as 50 years ago, where there certainly was a lot more friction involved.

I present to you the Angel With A Shotgun Grian saga, which lasted months, so you won't get the full picture by just the posts but you'll get s bit of the idea.

So around what... Finals of January/early February I made a side blog called @angel-with-a-shotgun-grian. If you look at its first posts it looks like a normal mcyt shipping blog. The bio says it so and the first posts are DNF and Grumbo stuff. Not a lot of them, but yeah.

But there's this blog, @hopefulyellowlamp, who is known for being sent by their mutuals drawings of the Angel with a shotgun meme, where Grian is drawn with a gun and wings, just to annoy them.

And I might have created the blog for... A bit more than reblogging ship art.

I reblog two posts from @hopefulyellowlamp with the tags #hmm and #👁️👁️, around a month after the blog was created. I had been waiting for @hopefulyellowlamp to reblog Angel With a Shotgun art for me to begin action.

And after that... They'd noticed me. And it officially started.

They were trying to find who was so determined to annoy them.

And this is the post where they make an embarrassing amount of guesses trying to find who I was + I lay out most of the clues I left. I think I forgot some though. This might be strange considering how upbeat yall are about the fandoms for your games in general, but is there any particular trope or ship you WOULDN'T want us writing/drawing/etc. in relation to your stuff? (IE, any canon you don't want us 'overwriting' or something like that?)

Of course we would want the fan content people make to not be racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, harmful, etc. But in terms of generally doing non-canon pairings or adding in headcanons or stuff, we really don’t mind that. People are welcome to have fun and explore their own ideas.

for the 1.2 Android update was it meant to download as a  separate app? I really want to keep my previous save files but they don't show up (also thank u for the updates I'm really excited to get back into the game!!)

We had to change the name of the file and unfortunately for some phones that meant it’s treated as a brand new game. I’m sorry your saves didn’t transfer over to the new version. You can try to look up your specific phone and see if there’s a way to access save files for games on your device and then transfer those saves over to the new build manually. It may or may not be possible.

I'm having some trouble figuring out how to get the update from Itichio without losing my save files? Is it the same game or a folder I can put in the properties? Sorry if this question is not worded well or if this isn't the avenue you'd want to take technical questions on

Hey. I really loved playing our life. It was a fun experience and I never thought I would like it this much. I do have a question, I am currently replaying the game and I am choosing choices I never chose at first. In step 2 during the road trip arc, I decided to ask Cove about what he liked to see on people. One of his response was anklets and black eyes. My MC have just happens to have black eyes. Do Cove say black eyes cuz my mc have it or it was just a coincidently programmed into the game?

He uses your eye color intentionally! If you changed your eye color he’d change what he said.

Will step 4 have 10 moments like steps 1-3? 

Step 4 is only an epilogue. It plays like the openings/endings of the earlier Steps where it’s a bunch of scenes all in a row, there aren’t any individual Moments.

In the new ol, there are two main love interests... Would it be possible to pair them together or is that weird? 

You can’t stay single and pair them together. If we are going to add all the extra content to have a route where the two LIs get together, it’d be a full poly route where them and the MC were all dating. And that’s not a for sure option yet because it’d add a lot of extra complications. But either way, in OL the relationships all gotta be about the MC, haha.

In OL2, there will be extra LIs in form of DLCs? Like Dexter and Baxter.

Since Cove will have 2 diff body types in s4, will the storyline and dialogs reflect this? Or all of it will be the same? Btw love the game and sorry for bad english. Hope this doesn't sound rude 😅 

Some descriptions and pieces of dialog will change, but it won’t impact the story really. And you don’t need to apologize! It’s all good.

Will you ever release the transparent sprites of the Our Life characters? 

Probably not, I’m afraid. They’ve got a lot of pieces and it’d just be kind of hard to deal with, aha.

Something I was curious about, what was your inspiration for making a game with so much customization?

Initially, the idea was just about having a romance where you actually grew up with the LI. But it was pretty stressful to try deciding how fast the relationship would progress with it taking place over such a long period of time and with no real storyline carrying it. People might not wanna play a game where the characters don’t get along as kids, but other people might not bother with a game where kids immediately liked each other. So the obvious answer came, just let the player pick themselves how it goes. From there we simply continued to add more flexibly with the MC due to the same thought process of wanting to make sure people were onboard with how their life was going.

What made you decide to change the artstyle for ol 2 so much? I of course respect all your decisions and will buy the shit out of everything related to ol 2, but i love the original style and i m honestly not a fan of the styles shown on patreon, despite me liking the painterly style in general. (I don t mind the style being changed, just that the examples shown so far all feel like there s something wrong with them.) 

We’ve always used different art styles for each of our projects. They all have distinct looks from each other. It’s just nice to do something new. I’m glad you really like how the first game looks, though. And those samples were only general concepts, rather than the exact options being decided between. We wanted to see reactions to different options. The art style we’re going with won’t be exactly like those, though I personally like all of them. I think players are gonna enjoy the style Our Life: Now & Forever when it’s revealed.

Hey! Is it ok to ask what gender ourlife2 protagonist will be and if we'll be given the same opportunity to customize an MC? Totally understand if you're keeping this under wraps for now if u don't wanna say! 

OL2 will have the same type of MC customization as OL1, but even more refined! So their gender will be up to you.

Hi! I happened upon Our Life on Steam by pure chance. It is such a great game, I am super excited about the DLC, and I just want you all to know that you are awesome! :D I have a question, and I'm sorry if it's been asked before. Do you have plans of making more games similar to Our Life, with customizable player character? The customizable player character was probably the one thing I personally have been desperate for in romance VNs. So glad there finally is one and would love to see more.

Thank you! And yep, we do have plans for more games like Our Life, most notably is another game in the franchise- Our Life: Now & Forever. We’ll also likely have other, non-OL, games with customizable MCs, though we may still have some games with set MCs in the future as well.

Yeah, you can still choose not to go that far. Though the event is shorter if you pass on the 18+ stuff.

At the beginning of Step 2, did Cove end up accidentally falling asleep in your bed? Or did he fall asleep on the floor? 

He fell asleep sitting on the floor with his body/head leaning against the side of the bed.

This may seem like a weird question, but what exactly is the difference between "direct" and "relaxed" on the comfort scale?

Direct is blunter and more teasing, relaxed is lighthearted and goes with the flow.

can the MC have tattoos in step 3? 

Not in Step 3, but you can in Step 4.

how would Cove react if he visited somewhere like North Carolina in winter where it can get in the 20s(F) at night sometimes? 

He would be shocked and unprepared for what serious coldness is really like, haha. The poor beach baby would wanna go home.

Step 4 will have the Cove Wedding DLC and the Derek and Baxter romance DLCs each add a lot of new content to Step 4, though they’re also partially set in Step 2 and Step 3 respectively. The NSFW DLC happens in Cove’s room.

I keep wondering what would've happened if Mr. Holden met Lizzie first instead of the MC. I can't see that turning out well somehow lol. 

It wouldn’t have made a difference. He met the MC’s parents first and they told him about their two kids. He wanted the MC specifically to be Cove’s friend because the two were the same age.

Even though we have a way to go I'm really excited for OL 2! I was curious though, is the next main character going to be adopted again? I thought it was really clever to make the first main character adopted so when players are customizing,  they can make them look how ever they like without worrying about pesky genetics. Just wondering! 

The OL2 MC is not adopted. We wanted to go for a new dynamic. Instead their parents are their biological single mother who is partially customizable and an off-screen sperm donor father. So the mom will look generally like the MC and any other traits not from her can be assumed to come from whoever the father was.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Absolutely. Because as a reader I get super giddy and excited when an author replies to me, so I can only hope I have the same effect on my readers 🥰 Plus they took actual time out of their day to leave me that comment. Replying is the least I can do!

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I really thought about this and nothing comes to mind. I think that somehow I've managed to not have angsty endings? Don't get me wrong, I love angst, and I'll bury you in it. But I usually resolve it in the ending so that you still get a sort of HEA. I think season 8 of GoT left me so jaded, I wouldn't want my fics to have that kind of painful ending. At most I'll do an open ending. It might also stem from the fact that this year I accidentally read some fics with very angsty endings and honestly one of them was so sad it left me pretty much a mess and I didn't trust that author again 😂 so as much as I love angst...I try to not write angsty endings.

7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

It has to be ...you'll find the real thing instead —it was a pretty cheesy ending 🤭

8. Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?

I adore them...but they have to be done right, you know. The craziest one I did has to be Scorching Bloodlust because I don't think anyone wanted A World of Warcraft Jonerys AU yet I decided it needed to exist anyway 😂

9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Unfortunately it has become a rite of passage in this fandom... If I remember correctly it was on two fics. The fic that attracted a lot of incels and mean comments was Suburban Thrills. Apparently some people were mad at me for writing Dany as being married to Dr*go in this modern AU. I even got called a "r*pe apologist* for it... when in reality they were mostly mad that Jon was just a pool boy, while Dany was the rich and powerful one. The other thing they were mad about was that the fic contains a Dany/Dr*go smut scene, which apparently was hotter than the jonerys one 🤣. Allegedly. There was this comment that legit sounded more like "how dare you make me find them hot???" Seems like some people don't understand the concept of voyeurism 😃...

The other fic that got me hate was Inevitable. Again this fic has Dany being with someone else before Jon, and obviously this is wrong since how dare she even look at a man who's not Jon Snow 🙄🙄.

You can clealry see a theme with the hate comments I was getting on both fics.

10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Do I? DO I??? *looks at the numerous pwp fics I've written* all kinds tbh. I have a short list of squicks. The rest is fair game. Check out the tags on my fics, I like trying new things in fics all the time 🤭

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I hope not. Not that I know of, in any case. I have friends in other fandoms who had entire fics posted on other websites and it is the most horrible thing to experience as a writer. There was however a situation maybe a little over a year ago, but it turned out to be an entirely different thing on top of low key stealing my fic lmao. Such a wild story, the proof is somewhere on my blog... I still can't believe that happened 🥴 seems like a lifetime ago.

Now, if we're talking about fic concepts and certain elements... yep 🙃🙃🙃🙃 (and no, I don't mean tropes). Lately t's become an entire thing across the board and unfortunately not much can be done about it. Which is sad in such a small fandom, especially when I see how things are in bigger ones. Guess some people think that just because it's fanfic, everything is fair game, yet they forget we all have our grain of originality we put into our fics. Just because we're all writing fics doesn't mean you're less of a dick if you take something you know someone else came up with in that fandom and pass it off as your own. The concept of giving credit as a courtesy seems to have been lost, along with so many other things that we all thought were common sense and fandom etiquette. As always, fanfic writing is shunned to the side and considered as the least original thing in fandoms, when it's not the case at all. But that's a bigger debate, too long and complicated for this post. At the end of the day, it is what it is, I guess 🙃 but it has definitely turned me off some of the very things I used to love

Nope, I don't think our fandom does this, it's too small for it.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

It's too hard to pick, but jonerys is pretty much my obsession and they consume most of my thoughts

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Oof I really wanna try to finish them all!

16. What’s your writing strengths?

Aesthetics. Setting up a certain mood or vibe. I'm pretty good at descriptions in general tbh. Oh and I've been told I'm good at transition scenes.

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue 😭. I always feel like I can never be as good as others, so when it comes to scenes that are important to me, dialogue intimidates me. I always work 4x as much on dialogue than I do on anything else.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

Love it. I'd do it more often tbh if I knew others liked it too!

20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

I cheated and picked 2 absolute faves:

Paint My Soul Anew —maybe because I'm very happy with how the prompt turned out. I think I managed to pack so much plot in such a short fic.

And, of course, our souls, intertwined —there are just so many things I love about this fic I'll never stop loving it tbh 🤭
