Vee finds an outlet for her anxiety (yes she has anxiety, she jumped out of a window at the first signal she might have to return to the isles) in video games, especially platformers like Super Mario or Kirby (no heavy stories, easy levels that make you think if you’re a completionist and catchy, happy soundtracks)

okay now that i've added meredith back, i need to start the whole thing by talking about the often maligned pick me, choose me, love me scene.

and here is the thing: this scene has become a meme. it's shown without context and i do feel like the rest of this episode is very important.

not only do we see the meredith/derek/drama these episodes, we also get our first big glimpse at ellis. she appeared throughout the first season, but this is the first time we get long scenes with her, and see her interacting with other people. we also see her reacting to meredith as her daughter, not just as a stranger who is visiting her, and what we see is a woman who yells at her daughter constantly, violent and not very loving.

in season one and in the beginning of season two, we get to know meredith, and despite her being almost 30, we learn she's never had a serious relationship before, that she's never really loved anyone romantically before, that she has kept herself closed off. it is a weak moment, but love makes us weak, and meredith is allowing herself to be weak. allowing herself to actually fight for what she wants instead of running away as she usually does, to make her claim and fight for herself and what she wants. she's always protected herself from love, and in this moment she is laying herself bare and trying.

yes, it is sad and a little pathetic, but it is very human and i do love it. especially cause we see how much meredith hides her emotions, how much she struggles with them. in that moment she knows exactly what she wants and... once again, it backfires. he doesn't pick her, choose her or love her in that moment. not for the first time in her life, she is pushed aside.

here we have this character, whose father gave up on her and moved on to another family, whose mother was abusive, whose boyfriend was literally married, asking to be loved and we mock her for it.
