You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.

Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.

The thing about image generators and prompt-to-video generators as they are now is that they really are largely useless when it comes to any actual, large-scale media productions, and they will continue to be useless for a long time. But the fact that execs and studios are pushing the "this will replace actual artists" narrative so hard in the hopes of making it come true, is that they already are driving people out of those industries.

My LinkedIn is filled with animation, VFX and games professionals who are scared enough of all the doomsday talk that they're thinking about leaving all together. I'm seeing people with 10-20 years experience say that it looks like animation will just be a hobby from now on, unless things turn around. And this is coming during a big downturn in the industry which has already had a lot of people shift into other careers after months to a year of unemployment.

And I just can't help but wonder - in five years, what will the media landscape look like? When all the experienced talent has gone and realised they don't want to come back to an industry that was so willing to throw is away for the sake of promises of mediocre, cheap content? My guess is you'll have to look to the indie world a whole lot more to find things worth watching. People won't stop making things, but the actual art might need to be found in strange places.
