Kandel first experienced success with the 1931 Broadway show The Wonder Bar, a…

People call him Trog, short for a prehistoric cave dweller known as the troglodyte. To a determined anthropologist (Joan Crawford), he’s the scientific discovery of the age. To others, he’s walking death. A grocer is impaled on a meat hook, a car is tossed aside like a twig, a child is kidnapped – all after local resident Sam Murdock (Michael Gough) prods the brute into a blind rampage. In true horror tradition, the world’s Murdocks leave no doubt who the real savages are … but what will become of he who is part-man, part-monster, all Trog!
Pre-order Trog.

Joan and Bette Davis both took any and all acting jobs, that paid, later in their careers. Winning an Oscar, or Oscars does not guarantee lots of acting jobs. They both took several not so great acting gigs, in their later years. After this film, Joan would only appear in 1 more theatrical film, 'TROG', and 5 TV series, 'The Lucy Show','The Secret Storm', 'Night Gallery', 'The Virginian', and 'The Sixth Sense', before she retired completely and died, at age 73, in 1977.
This is not one of her best films. 'A Horror-tinted whodunnit with a carnival setting. Berserk! is a 1967 British horror-thriller film starring Joan Crawford, Ty Hardin, Diana Dors and Judy Geeson in a macabre mother-daughter tale about a circus plagued with murders. The screenplay was written by Herman Cohen and Aben Kandel, and the film directed by Jim O'Connolly. Berserk! marks Crawford's second-to-last big-screen appearance.'

The Classic Era podcast returns to Hammer for another monster movie gem. This is one of their far too infrequent original creations, The Reptile (1966), directed by John Gilling from an Anthony Hinds (writing as John Elder) script. The film features a stellar cast that includes Noel Willman, Jennifer Daniel, Ray Barrett, Michael Ripper, John Laurie, Marne Maitlan, and Jacqueline Pearce as the titular character. Shot at the same time as Dracula: Prince of Darkness, The Plague of the Zombies, and Rasputin the Mad Monk – all four released in 1966 – The Reptile was featured on a double bill stateside with Rasputin: The Mad Monk. Are you a fan of The Reptile and if so, do the Grue Crew agree with you?
At the time of this writing, The Reptile is available on physical media as a Blu-ray from Scream Factory.
