everyone is talking about buck looking at tommy when he said "people who make life worth living" (rightfully so) but what we need to talk about is the fact tommy was looking back

This whole scene between Buck and Tommy is the most authentic depiction of a mlm relationship I've seen in a while (on mainstream television that is). They're adult men. They're very masculine adult men. Yes, they can be emotional. They can be vulnerable with each other. And they were in this scene. But likely they will be over it quickly. Way more quickly than the average fangirl wants them to. They won't have a lengthy heart-to-heart about their emotions when everything important has already been said. They won't cry over feelings like they do in every other fanfiction. They will quickly seek for a distraction from dealing with the heavy emotional stuff and because they're two grown-ups, two adult men, who are also still in the honeymoon phase of their relationship that distraction is very likely to be sexual. Like it or not, it's realistic.

Calling it problematic (or worse) that Buck and Tommy talk about Daddy Kink after this conversation and that they're into it? That's just showing how little life experience a huge part of fandom has and how little they actually know about men in general and gay men and gay life in particular. For all that mlm ships are the biggest part of fandom and fans crying for their mlm ships to become canon for years or even decades, the moment you're getting an authentic representation of a grown-up gay relationship you run away screaming because it doesn't match with your lovey-dovey vanilla expectations? That's nothing but bigotry talking.

can't stop thinking about how that whole situation must've been bonkers from Tommy's pov

like, there is this dude so imprinted on you that he hangs out with you 3 days a week, while you both have differing schedules and do 24-hour shifts — oh and supposedly he also has a girlfriend.

and then his boy best friend asks you for a tour at your station and flirts with you, and then he shows up anywhere where he can get you and ends up bodyclocking his bestie like a preteen boy, which you'd think was to punish him, but you later find out that it was a subconscious attempt to get him out of the competition.

that's not mentioning the fact that the guy imprinted on you also introduced you to his son, who is incredibly fond of the other guy and won't shut up about him.

and then you worry that you came between these two friends, so you go see the one who is clearly more upset, to reassure him that's not what's happening, only to find out that he was actually crushing on you this whole time and he is also just realising this as he's telling it to you.

can you imagine the spin all that gave to Tommy's head??

op's formative tv experience was in a rural area with rabbit ears in the 90s, but before 18 i lived in a place with every one of these except satellite. rotary antenna is its own category because i will never forget the day when a friend's family put one in. the sheer power of turning that knob and seeing a wholeass giant roof antenna turning around and then you can pick up the x-files?? fucking religious experience.

I personally think everyone should leave cast and crew alone (rebuild the fucking fourth wall) but at least some people will stop obsessing over trying to figure out the timeline (just pick jfc it does not matter)

sometimes I see posts like 'tommy doesn't even like buck' or 'they gave us nothing, how would you even know if they have chemistry' and I think hm maybe I read too much into it but then THE COFFEE SCENE comes back and I wonder what other people watched

gonna be very real; every argument against Tommy/bucktommy boils down to "he's not Eddie" "i don't like Tommy bc the vibes are off but instead of just saying that i wanna invent some kind of moral ground to justify crying about it all day long" and a favourite of mine: "older men make me uncomfortable" as if the actor isn't 39, playing against another actor who is in fact their babygirl and boo, who is also, a 33-year-old man, respectively.

people could really just say "it's not for me but go nuts while i engage with the stuff i actually like" but they gotta invent stuff that are just arguably untrue and visibly easy to disprove...

and just one more thing about the chemistry; Tommy's character has a different energy than Eddie's character, just as Lou has a different one to Ryan as a person and the characters have totally different dynamics; one is a newfound crush only getting to know each other, the other is a 6-year best friendship who have been through A Lot together.

but having a different dynamic and chemisrty doesn't mean there is none.
