"I’ve tried spending more time with dad in my dreams and in my art. But he’s- god, he’s impossible. Just give me a straight answer, man. A word, a gesture, a look at your face even. I think he was like this in real life, Cecil. I think his ambiguity, his vagueness, is why mom hated talking about him. He's not enigmatic or magical. He is fucking frustrating. All these cryptic images, but I don’t think there’s much to understand about an absent father."

I like how this arc is showing how to heal generational trauma through the lens of two different characters. Cecil is working to acknowledge the harm he and Abby caused to each other and making a conscious effort to mend their relationship, both for his own sake but also to break the cycle without passing that hurt onto his own son, showing that it's never too late to get help. And then Kevin is beating up his child self in the background.

Love that they let Abby swear for the first time in the story of WTNV to talk about a mother that was physically there but dead in all the ways that mattered, and a father that was dead but vaguely present in a way that didn't mean anything for a pair of kids that were trying to survive.

Cecil's trauma making him forget things and by consequence making Abby relive her own trauma by telling the same story again and again. They are trapped in it and they can't fully move foward but they have game nights and they hated each other and they love each other and they are still moving on even while trapped and maybe they are going to be okay anyway not fully but okay enough.

Cecil wanting to argue before catching himself and deciding not to is such a significant moment. It’s such a big example of the conscious decision both Abby and Cecil are making to mend their relationship, both for themselves and for their families. This is such a beautiful arc.

Also I just want to say that this was the perfect voice acting choice for Abby. I'm not sure what I thought she sounded like but this is perfect. Like yeah this is a (50????-something) year old mother who has gone through so much shit and only cries in the shower and keeps Cecil in line even now. Kudos Ashlie Atkinson.

Also! the way cecil and abby differ in how he explains his treatment of steve at the beginning: cecil saw steve as replacing him as abby’s go-to person but abby saw his behaviour as an attack on herself??
anyways the palmer siblings are everything

[ID: A Night Vale edit of a reaction image comic by @/gertritude of an anonymous person speaking casually in a drive-through to a horrified McDonalds employee. The anonymous person is labeled as Abby saying the word "redacted" in caps locks and brackets. The horrified employee is edited to be holding a box of Scrabble and is labelled as Carlos, Janice, Cecil (not taking it in), and Steve.
Finally is art of a person with headphones on looking absolutely horrified. End ID]

Do you ever think about what the implications that Cecil is hundreds of years old are towards Abby?
Because from the one recent episode we do know that they for sure grew up together.. but it is also implied Cecil exists as long as nightvale does. Or even if he doesn't, from the episode that introduces Earl Harlan it implies that both are much older then it seems
We also know that for a long while time did not work in nightvale, then it got restored and Tamika and Janice finally were shown growing up and all.. but we don't know if until time got fixed if it never worked since the beginning of nightvale (the city in the lore not the podcast) or if it stopped working one day for some reason and so we don't know for how long time didn't work in nightvale
All this to say, no matter his age Cecil is probably a lot older than he looks like and it's probably fair to say he may be around a hundred years old or more (the wiki says 100+ but there is no confirmation) but if we know for a fact that Abby and Cecil did grow up together then it means Abby is also around that age (and keep in mind she's the older one). It strongly implied Cecil isn't aware of this whole age aspect, mainly due to his amnesia.. But we also know that Abby is a lot more self aware of reality, so she is probably at least somewhat aware that she is a lot older than she looks like.. How do you think she feels about it? How was it for her to live so long? How was that conversation with Steve (bc ik she'd never hide that from him)? Does this mean Steve is into older women?
We know that Earl Harlan is probably in a similar situation age wise, is it the case for anyone else? Are they so old because of the time not working? Is it something else? There is so much to speculate and think about and idk if we'll ever get answers

"I hope you finally remember what I’m telling you tonight. I don’t know how many times I’ve told you this all before, and you never retain any of it. But I’ll tell it again."
Gods... it's about love. Abby tells the same story again and again and again even if Cecil forgets every single time because she hated her brother and she loves her brother, and they're siblings and they only ever had each other and they have so many more people now, but they still will never let each other go because they love each other.

This last episodes of Nightvale have been amazing because they are given Cecil's childhood lore but together with it they are showing us how much Cecil grew and how much of it we actually followed through and how he (and Abby) aren't okay and should never had to get this hurt but also how they are finally genuinally being able to heal and move from it and how they love each other so much even if they don't always like each other (and how they are starting to like each other).
