Lily Commits Elder Gay Mutant Abuse, feat. "Eldritch Lily" (Part 2)

4:13: Lily mischaracterizes Charles Xavier, throws up a Martin Luthor King quote she either doesn't understand or didn't read carefully enough, going full whyte. (Never go full whyte.)

How much do I need to dignify this by explaining why this is fucking asinine? Charles is a pacifist for the most part. A recognized and respected form of activism and protest. Like, the least charitable interpretation of what Lily's trying to say here is that figures like Gahndi, Abbie Hoffman, and dear old MLK himself are posers complicit in the oppression two of them lost their fucking life to.

That quote is referring to white people passively complicit in racism that just want black people to shut the fuck up Lily-- not passive forms of activism.

You know, it's one thing to be profoundly fucking wrong about cartoons, it's an entirely different beast when you're profoundly wrong about shit like this. Absolutely fucking ghoulish.

It feels weird pivoting back to the costumed vigilantes with funky genes, but we gotta keep going. Ironically for how much Lily is focusing on the movies here-- one of my issues with the way Charles is portrayed is he keeps casually threatening people/doing shady shit and getting away with it. Makes you question why it's framed as okay when he does it and not when it's Erik. Charles isn't a saint, he shouldn't be portrayed as one, and there's a lot of thematic dissonance when the films feel the need to lampshade the shit he gets up to less he lose the moral high ground.

4:50: OH HERE WE GO.

5:00: Lily goes on a long rant about the "activists who GO TOO FAR" trope in media.

I technically agree with her, but I can tell by the examples she's giving that she's parroting things Hbomberguy said in his RWBY video, just in a less charitable tone. So, really I agree with Hbomberguy.

She's not wrong that the BoM and Magneto sometimes wanders into this territory (I mean, they were originally 'The Brotherhood of Evil Mutant' and all that) unfortunately, but she hasn't supported that position at all. I have to assume she's heard this brought up somewhere else, this isn't exactly a unique take by any means. I doubt she's actually familiar enough with the content to create an original cohesive argument.

Lily doesn't like moral ambiguity in her media. That would be fine if she wasn't this butthurt that other people feel very differently.

6:05: "And yes, you knew we were getting to it! [ . . .] Almost all of Legend of Korras main villians start at a good through line. But then some twist comes up that makes everything they said before completely pointless."

THESE TWO, "START AT A GOOD THROUGH LINE!?"

6:15: "Season one's Amon is a socialist activist who cares about the oppression of non-benders by benders-- until it turns out that he doesn't."

I know this is a popular interpretation of the equalitists, especially given that their name is 'the equalists,' but actually the show never gives us enough information about the sociopolitical dynamics of benders and non-benders to say for sure. I'm not going to get into it here, if you want my full breakdown and analysis on the social politics of Avatar, let me know. In summary, it's tempting to assume benders would be the dominant class as they have literal powers, but that's not really how systemic power works. There's conflicting inference on what the dynamics are, and it may be different depending on the nation. The equalists are schrodinger's activists. They could be the Black Panthers, they could be the Proud Boys. That is not me making a false equivalency between those two groups, it's just never established if their perceived systemic persecution is real or imagined.

This isn't really a criticism of Lily. That it is so ambiguous is a flaw in the show. The interpretation Amon is supposed to be a socialist is as valid as any. Well. . . It's an extremely reductive interpretation of a socialist, and I know Lily doesn't know what a socialist actually is, but I'm trying to be charitable when possible here.

I do LIKE Korra myself, to be clear. But, yeah. There's problems.

6:31: "Season four's Kuvira wants to stitch the Earth Kingdom back together but doesn't want to restore an oppressive monarchy like everyone else does. And then declares that she is the dictator of the Earth Kingdom."

Yeah, that is just a thing that has happened in history, Lily. When there's a power vacuum left by a sudden or violent upheaval of a tyrant, unfortunately often another tyrant at least attempts to take their place. This is one of the reasons why former colonies struggle to cultivate stability-- societies and communities can get fucked in the ass by this kind of shit. This isn't a pro-monarchy message Lily-- consider maybe trying to learn things now and again.

This is why people call you a fake leftist Lily. Doing (relatively) minor gestures of good will like handing out food for a short period then pulling the rug out from under the people once they're complicit is right out of the facist playbook. You are virtually doing the exact thing you accused Rebecca Sugar of, but for real.

You're being outfoxed by a kid's show again.

6:44: "Season two's Unalaq [you get the idea.]"

Lily is pro gentrification until you involve demon kites I guess. I'm confused why she thinks he ever had any good intentions, it's telegraphed immediately he's a bad dude. He's also by far the worst villain-- as in, the worst written.

7:10: "All of them go 'the status quo is bad therefore commence genocide' like they got their political theory from fucking Vaush."

By your line of thinking so did Firelord Sozin:

"I had my own vision for a brighter future . . ."

I don't like Vaush either, but-- this isn't even the pot calling the kettle black. This is the blackened grime on the pot calling the kettle black.

And then they inevitably change the status like bringing democracy to the Earth Kingdom and you're left wondering-- wait, why wasn't the other person doing this!?"

I did not edit those two statements together. That is, in fact, Lily pointing out why her own arguments are stupid in the very next breath. Thanks for saving me the effort, I guess.

7:45: "Why weren't the characters you set up to do these things . . . Doing the things?!"

Because they weren't set up to do these things Lily. They're the antagonists. They ideologically were designed to be foils for Korra to overcome.

Korra's political messages aren't even that deep, and yet you're this incapable from telling even obvious totalitarian right-wing ideology and mild liberalism apart.

8:10: "It's so nakedly obvious how protective of the status quo these stories are."

This is, in a very abstract way, a valid criticism of Korra. This is a common problem in a lot of media, and Korra is far from the worst offender. I think it does breach past this to some extent, just not as much as I would have personally liked with all its seasons.

But make no mistake this is Lily again, taking something Lily has seen someone else say and putting that opinion through a blender.

Let's not beat around the bush here, Lily just wanted to bitch about Korra again. It's almost like she thinks if she repeats her idiotic media analysis enough, maybe THIS time people will realize how brilliant she is.

911 Spoilers Season 4: You’ve been warned. 😅 Buddie Rewatch

Episode 6: Jinx

Buck has a clip board. Going thru a list of supplies, making sure the engine is stocked. Buck calls out the item, Eddie is grabbing the item and confirming. Buck pausing and having Eddie correct his “yep” to a “check.”

Eddie has a slight grin, showing mild annoyance, but playing along with Buck as he continues to say “Check”

Hen and Chim walking over, Hen asking who gave Buck a clip board.

Buck tells Hen not to warry, he is kinder and gentler. Eddie smiles as he leans against the truck, listening to Buck monologue and introduce himself as Buck 3.0.

Hen asking what happened to Buck 2.0 and Chim interjecting that that Buck was crushed by a fire truck and left by his girlfriend. (I know he means Abby, but Ally came to mind first.)

Eddie asserting that he isn’t “sure what inspired the software update” as he looks up at Buck. Buck responds that he is ready to let go of the past. Hen points out that it’s a bit ridiculous that he’s willing to just let go being lied to all his life. (I’m with you Hen!)

Buck reveals that he will be going to therapy with his parents for a few sessions to work thru that obstacle. Eddie looks intrigued by the idea.

Eddie is leaning over the cabinet door of the truck, telling Buck that it’s okay for him to take some time and process this new information. He doesn’t have to jump in right away and work thru it. Buck claims to know this. He is just tired of focusing on the past and wants to start thinking about the future. Every one looks at each other, they are obviously not sure how to process this stance.

Buck screams out to the new recruit, Ravi, calling him Probie.

This is slightly off topic, But in Season 2, when Eddie was a probie, now one called him a Probie. I vaguely remember Buck being called a probie in Season 1. I feel like it says a lot about the way Eddie carries himself. Probably one of the many reasons everyone thinks Eddie is older than Buck, instead of thinking they are the same age.

Buck apologizes for scaring Ravi and asks him how the shift was. Ravi uses the forbidden Q word. Everyone minus Eddie is startled by the mention of the word. Eddie is confused as he continues to pack up the truck, Ravi is confused standing there as Hen and Chim talk about curses.

Buck explains that the “Q” word is forbidden in any firehouse. Bobby interrupts and asks who used the word.  Eddie asks what he’s missing here because he can’t comprehend the reaction.

The fire alarm goes off, and Chim vocalizes that they have been jinxed. The team runs off into the trucks, as Ravi stands there awkwardly.

Cut to Eddie in the truck telling the rest of the team that they sound like his grandmother’s neighbor, the healer. He of course says “Abuela” and “Curandera”. I love when Eddie leans into his Spanish roots.

Buck quickly and unironically asking if she would know how to reverse the curse, because if she doesn’t, they are about the have “the shift from hell.”

Chim and Hen explain how they are going to experience nonstop, stupid calls. Eddie judging them and asking if they really believe in stuff like that. Hen quickly adds, “Buck never told you about the last time someone used that word.”

Buck tries to justify that time as the gods taking that moment out of context. Flash back to a younger Buck trying to add a dish to a running dishwasher and him making a comment about how quiet it was running.

That shift resulted in 36 calls. Eddie finding it hard to believe that all those calls were a result of one shift. Bobby chiming in to say it was a record. Buck correcting the number to 37, revealing the fire suppression system was triggered in the locking, trapping Buck in foam at the end of that shift.  

Eddie still being a denier, tell them that they are giving the EMS god too much credit. The arrive at the accident. Buck jumps out after chimney, Eddie after Buck.  Eddie pointing out that the accident is just a fender bender, not a stupid call. Bobby tells him to look up and we see a man tapped to a billboard. Bobby calling over to Buck, Buck runs to grab the ladder. Eddie smirks as he pulls a bag out of a truck, claiming to have seen crazier.

Buck climbs up the ladder to get to the man stuck above. He tries to reason with the man to get down for everyone’s safety. Everyone below sets up an air bag, incase he falls.

Eddie running towards the car accident scene runs into Ana, Chris’s old school teacher. She was burned by cup of coffee, Eddie offers to check the burn for her. He tells her that ice isn’t good for burns and she reveals that another firefighter gave her the ice. Eddie is on his knees as he looks over the burn, instructs her to keep the area dry and clean.

Ana asks about Christopher. Eddie responds that he’s doing well and adjusting to online classes. He assumes that online school is likely the reason why he hasn’t seen her. Ana reveals that she actually has a new job as a vice principal at a different school district. Eddie and Ana subtly flirt through out the conversation.

I think now is the best time to mentions that I never hated Eddie and Ana’s relationship. I never understood the fan fics that make Ana an evil witch. I did think their relation was boring, probably because we never really got to know her as a character. We really didn’t see their dynamic, or real passion between the characters. I’ll of course go into more detail about this later on, just felt like I should say something now.

Bobby calls for Eddie over the radio to bring over the equipment for their billboard guy, cutting his conversation with Ana short.

Buck descends down the ladder, telling Bobby that the guy refuses to get down. The tape starts to give out and Buck makes a run up the ladder to get to him. Eddie is looking up as this happens. The guy falls off before Buck could make it up. Luckily the air bag broke his fall.

Buck sits on the ladder defeated. As the guy celebrates surviving and walking around naked, Eddie picks up the tape that was holding the man up. Bobby sarcastically asks if he wants it as a souvenir for the day they are about to have.

Everyone gathers upstairs for lunch. Bobby pulls out mac and cheese from the oven. No one is allowed to eat until everyone is at the table.  Buck runs up last, apologizing, as they get ready to eat the alarm goes off.

Montage begins with Bobby putting the mac in cheese back inn the oven.

Eddie rescues a cat and brings it back to the owner. Buck is attempting to help a man down the same tree.

Bobby pulls out the mac and cheese, slightly over cooked. Buck telling Bobby to hurry. The alarm goes off again. They run off, place the mac and cheese back in the oven.

Eddie and Chimney are covered in Vaseline as they try to get a lion head off of a girl. Hen is able to cut the head off. Buck is thrown up on. Eddie backs away as he jokes about someone eating today.

Mac and Cheese is burned. Buck and Eddie are sitting across from each other at the table. Everyone is disappointed by the burned food. Alarm goes off again. Buck looks at Eddie as he sarcastically says they are not jinxed. Eddie looking back at Buck with pursed lips.

Eddie standing with his arms crosses, awkwardly not trying to acknowledge the curse as Chim and Hen handle the squid attack.

Buck burns his mouth on hot coffee straight from the pot as the alarm goes off again.

Eddie asks Buck if he ever replays a conversation in their head a realize that he may have sounded like an idiot. Buck replies with, “have you met me.” Eddie smiles. They are walking side by side to the next rescue. Eddie reveals that he ran into Chris’ old teacher Ana that morning.

Buck makes notes that Eddie hadn’t mentioned Chris’ pretty teacher in a while.

They walk in to Bobby and Hen moving helium tanks. Buck comments on the interesting scene  of a clown being covered by helium tanks. Eddie is practically pressed up onto Bucks side at this moment.

Buck and Eddie start laughing uncontrollably as Bobby instructs them to help out, in a high-pitched voice. Eddie and Buck looking at each other before they move in to help. Their laughter becoming more uncontrollable the more they hear people speak.

Cuts to the 118 leaving another call. Eddie and Buck are walking out pressed together. Eddie comments on how boring the call was given that it was people stuck in the elevator. Hen tells him not to say it, prompting Eddie to call them a bunch of old ladies, stating there is no curse. Buck comments on how windy it is as he hopes into the truck. Everyone jumps into the Truck, after they start discussing how they should not tempt faint.

Eddie buckles up, and proceeds to comment about how it was a normal call. “It went like clockwork. Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am.” Hen chimes is about notice how no one says “Wham, bam, thank you, sir.” Buck being a smart-ass chimes in saying it is because it doesn’t rhyme.

Eddie being overly confident that jinxes don’t exist. Power pole goes down immediately after Eddie says this. Everyone looks at Eddie angrily and Eddie sits up awkwardly.

Chimney and Buck texting Josh about their situation in the truck, I assume it’s a group text. Josh clocking that they are wanting to remove a curse.

As chimney is researching ways to remove curses, Eddie is acting disinterested, while Buck is trying to get a proper explanation.

Eddie continues to make fun of the team for believing in this curse. Buck states, “It’s like the universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen.”

“The universe doesn’t scream.” Power lines start loudly zapping again.

Eddie states that he doesn’t worry about things he can’t control. Buck tries to get him to admit there is something out there controlling the things he can’t control. Eddie starts listing mystical creatures and legends as he taunts Buck. Eddie attempts to say the “Q” word, but is told by Bobby to stop. This prompts the entire team to ask Bobby’s opinion on the matter.

Bobby points out that everyone is a little superstitious, pointing out that Eddie wears a good luck charm around his neck. Eddie explains that is not the same thing, but Bobby explains how it is.

Help finally arrives, but not before taking photos of the accident and making fun of them.

Eddie walks in the kitchen area. Bobby, Buck, Chimney, and Hen are all upstairs. Turns out Eddie could not sleep.  Eddie walks up to Chim, Hen, and Buck and asks if he’s interrupting book club. Hen states Buck is reading about woman, Eddie turns to Buck and jokes about wondering why Buck had a book in his hand, but knowing it is about woman it all makes sense.

Buck is reading about the 5 love languages, asks Eddie what he thinks Ana’s love language is. Buck putting Eddies business out there and peeking everyone’s interest. Eddie calls Buck a traitor as they ask if he’s dating.

Eddie explains who Ana is and how she ran into her this morning. The 118 being nosy and asking why he didn’t ask her out. The bell goes off before Eddie can come up with a response.

Something I feel needs to be pointed out is that at this very moment Buck does not have any possible suitors or any one of interest to date. From the look of where Buck has the book opened up to, compared to where everyone else has their books opened up to, it’s pretty safe to assume he started reading that book that night. This implies that the only reason he was reading this book is because Eddie mentioned Ana. Buck could have just mentioned Ana’s name to set a fire under Eddie, but the question felt genuine. I like to believe; Buck was trying to figure out Eddies love language and compare it to what they thought would be Ana’s.

I also like to add that if Buck had been reading this book for a while, he may already know Eddies love language, and uses that to his advantage. From reading the book myself, I think Eddie’s love language is acts of service. Buck’s is likely words of affirmation.  Quality time is both their 2nd love language.

$10,000 Worth of Fireworks;  Buck and Eddie grab the water hose out of the truck. Bobby calls Buck over the radio, telling him that he is needed out back. Eddie telling him to go, that he can handle the hose on his own.

Buck leaves and Eddie starts to drag over the hose. The hose gets caught on something, this is when Eddie sees what he assumes is another firefighter from a different unit and calls him over to help. He specifically says he lost his partner could you help me out.

Brian runs over to help. Eddie starts to talk about the rough day he has had, and complains a little. As Brian walks off, Eddie realizes he’s from the unit Ana mentioned that gave her ice. He tells Brian about the situation as he walks off. Bobby walks over to finish helping Eddie. There we learn the 147 is decommissioned after the mudslide, they have no idea who that man was.

Back at the station, Eddie further explains that the man he saw had a jacket with the name Harmon on it, Bobby points out who the real Harmon is and it’s not the guy Eddie spoke to.

Bobby turns this conversation into a lesson for Eddie. Stating, “They’re so focused on what they don’t have that they miss the chance to have something else, something real.”

Eddie slowly making the realization that Bobby means he needs to move on from Shannon and possibly pursue Ana. Bobby further explain how he can’t stay stuck. Eddie is on the verge of tears as he asks Bobby about Athena and her kids. Bobby reassuring Eddie that he loves his new family, but he does miss the one he lost.

So I love the fan theory that Bobby picked out Eddie specifically for Buck. It’s a cute funny theory that I only entertain because it is wholesome. I do not actually believe this theory, but if I did, I would assume Bobby is pushing for Eddie to pursue Ana, because he knows that Eddie needs to heal more before pursing Buck, also this moment isn’t right for Buck either, because he’s processing something totally new.

Burger Freak out: Larry explains that a firefighter called telling him that a gas leak had been detected and to break all of the windows. Bobby and Buck come around the corner and explain that there is no gas leak, but that the gas is going to remain off until the investigation is over.

Buck running after the guy they suspect has been pretending to be a firefighter. Brian steals the 118. Buck is banging against the truck trying to stop him from fleeing.

Eddie looking over at the commotion confused. Bobby announcing over radio that the engine has been stolen. Buck letting Chim and Hen know they are still jinxed.

Buck revealing that he just topped off the gas tank, there is about four hours before the guy runs out of gas.

Over the radio dispatch calls in a 5-alarm fire. Buck asks Bobby what are they suppose to do.  Bobby instructs everyone to hop in the back of the ambulance.  Buck hops in and lays on the gurney. As everyone squeezes in around him.

Buck vocalizes how using the ambulance is a stupid idea, and how their luck really lead to someone stealing an engine. How they might not even be able to help while on scene.

Eddie believes there is a way to get the Engine to the scene, Buck looks up at Eddie confused.

Eddie speaks to Brian directly, calling him over the radio. Eddie thanks Brian for helping at the garage fire. Eddie instructs Brian to help out by bringing the fire engine he stole to the 5-alarm fire.

Eddie walks up to Brian and tells him he did the right thing and walks off.

Buck, Chim, and Hen are in their civilian clothing. They are grateful for the shift being over. Bobby offers to buy the three of them breakfast. Buck makes a kind of concerning comment about not eating long enough, he no longer feels hungry.

Eddie appears out of nowhere, He’s still in uniform, and standing to where he is showing off a lot of cake.

Eddie denies the invitation claiming to have other plans. Buck is visibly confused; Bobby is smiling like he knows what these plans entail.

Buck, Bobby, Hen, and Chim talk about and elaborate on how Brian got a hold of firefighter gear and how much trouble he caused with all his help. Before eating their breakfast, a woman collapses.

Eddie is alone at another breakfast spot. Stressed while looking a menu. I understand feeling a bit anxious about a date, but the normal cool calm and collected man we are use to seeing is no where to be seen in this scene.

Ana arrives, he pulls out her chair for her. They have light banter and when the waiter comes over to ask about drinks, they both respond, “No, coffee, Jinx” and laugh. I understand that the moment is suppose to be cute, but why would you tell your waiter you don’t want coffee. Maybe I’m thinking to much into it, when I was a waiter, this interaction would have confused me and just been awkward.

“I can’t believe you couldn’t get us out of this.” I groaned as Dan and I walked into the courtroom. “I mean it’s so absurd we have to be here on a Saturday.” Dan laughed and squeezed my shoulder. I curled into him more and turned into him.

“oh I know you’re not even awake when you start quoting the breakfast club.” He teased. “Although I’m surprised you didn’t quote bender.” I halfheartedly hit his chest.

“Eat my shorts and shut up.” I mumbled, smiling at him.

“and there we go.” Dan laughed. We sat down as the HR guy finally showed up.

“Dan be nice.” Abbie said as the HR guy passed around name tags. “Jake is just here to do a quick HR training and then you all can leave.”

“nice?” Dan scoffed. “That ship has sailed, sunk and not been found for 30 years.” I giggled and wrote my name on the tag before doing the same for Dan. He looked down as I stuck it to his chest, smiling at me softly. Abbie looked at him with a smirk. Dan frowned when he noticed and walked away, holding my hand the whole time. “Oh shut up.” He complained as went to sit down. We positioned our chairs as close to each other as we could and Jake gave us a look.

“now what would you say to someone who wants to talk to you about a personal problem?” Jake asked.

“I would give them time so we could sit down and figure out whatever was going on.” Abbie said. Jake frowned.

“that’s one way to do it. Anyone else?” He asked. Dan shrugged.

“I’d fake a heart attack.” My head snapped over to him and Dan shrugged again. “And when I came back and they asked how I was doing I’d fake another one.” Dan gave me a tight smile. “Except for this one. I actually talk to them.”

“with the one person exception aside, dans actually…kind of right.” Jake said. I raised an eyebrow at Dan and shook my head. “It seems like there’s some kind of hostility in the room. What’s going on?”

“we’ll ever since the judge suggested we move in together, things have been a bit rough.” Gurgs said. Olivia and gurgs explained their situation as Jake stared at Abbie in shock. Meanwhile I was staring dan down.

“oh you know I will do anything to get out of a conversation.” Dan said.

“yeah but considering you’ve had a heart attack I don’t like the idea of you even faking one.” I said. Dan paused and nodded.

“alright. Yeah. I understand that.” He said. “I shouldn’t have said that. Sorry.” I nodded and turned to see Jake looking at us.

“sorry. What did we miss?” I asked.

“you two are married?” He asked. “And started a relationship here?” I nodded.

“Yeah. Hence the double fielding on your list.” Dan said. I raised an eyebrow at Jake.

“There a problem there?” I asked. Jake nodded.

“The two of you shouldn’t be working together at this point. Even after all the paper work was done, there should have been a separation from work.” He explained. Dan and I looked at each other, worry clear on our faces.

“I filed to keep them both on the same shift.” Abbie explained. “Their relationship didn’t and doesn’t affect their work.”

“still…” Jake said.

“hold on are you telling me we’re going to have to…what?” Dan said. “Either break up or change our hours?” Jake nodded.

“we could get the two of you into different courtrooms on the same shift.” Jake offered.

“hold on hold on.” Abbie said. “Let’s talk in my office.” Jake got up to follow her, arguing the entire time.

“you all are dismissed by the way.” He said before leaving the room.

“Dan…” I said. He grabbed my hand and led me down to the car. “What are we going to do?” Dan hugged me before we got into the car.

“I don’t know. Abbie will figure something out.” He whispered. “Until then, we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing.” I nodded as we headed home. The next day, we headed back to work. Jake was sitting in the gallery again and I turned to Dan. He squeezed my hand and we went to work.

“don’t worry.” Abbie assured me. “As far as I know it has gotten fixed. Paperwork is up to date and down at city hall they are all on board with the two of you continuing to work together in this court.”

“good.” I breathed a sigh of relief. “So why is Jake here?” I asked. Abbie sighed.

“because apparently I fucked up the HR training.” She admitted. I squeezed her shoulder and headed over to wyatts desk. Right before break, Wyatt nodded at Dan.

“So Dan isn’t there something you wanted to say?” Wyatt prompted. Dan nodded and hit the gate. A barbershop quartet led by Flobert stood up.

“it’s been a long time coming and you really deserved better so here’s making up for running off and eloping. Your sweetheart Dan really just has one question to ask and he really hopes you say yes. So without further ado…” they sang. I looked between them and Dan, watching him get down on one knee. I gasped and covered my mouth.

“I told you I’d make up for it.” He said with a smile. “So (Y/N) Fielding, will you marry me? Properly.” I laughed and nodded.

“yes!” I said. “Hell yes!” Dan got up and we met in the middle of the courtroom. He hugged me tightly and kissed my temple. Everyone in the courtroom started clapping and I saw our parents sitting behind Jake. “Oh god. Our parents are here.” I laughed as Dan turned around, keeping his arm around me as our parents made their way over.

“yep.” He said, smiling at them. “I asked them too. I wanted to do this last week but mama and daddy weren’t able to get out here. I wanted them here when I asked properly. And I knew your mother would kill me if I didn’t ask her to be here.” I laughed and nodded.

“that’s true.” I confirmed before breaking away to hug my parents. We all headed to the cafeteria to celebrate.

“so what are you two going to do?” My mom asked.

“what do you mean?” I asked, pulling my attention away from Dan entangling his fingers with mine.

“I think what she’s trying to say is what are you two going to do with the wedding.” Dans mom said. “I’m sure it’s going to be better planned than the last one.” Dan and I blushed.

“mama.” Dan complained. “We’ve been over this. We were overcome with love and we couldn’t wait any longer.” I giggled at his embarrassment. His mom winked at me when he buried his head in his hands.

“We know dear.” Dans dad said. “She’s just giving you two a hard time.”

“it’s going to take a lot longer to plan than the last one. That’s for sure.” My dad said. “And you’ll have more time to get rings.”

“No.” Dan and I said at the same time. Everyone looked at us surprised.

“Sorry. It’s just we’re pretty attached to these.” I explained, looking at Dan. He nodded.

“they’re engraved. And pretty special to us.” Dan said, holding my hand and running his thumb over the ring.

“we picked them out for each other in New Orleans.” I looked at Dan and smiled softly. “Tried to hide the engravings from each other honestly. It didn’t work but they are part of our story. And we don’t want to change our story too much.” My parents looked at each other and smiled. Dans parents nodded.

“we should go talk to Abbie.” Dan said. I nodded and we got up. Everyone looked at us confused.

“She was planning a wedding not long ago.” I explained. “She might still have some of the books and what not.” With a promise to meet up for dinner soon, Dan and I headed towards Abbie’s office. Wyatt stopped us before we could go down the hall.

“you don’t want to go down there.” He warned us. “Abbie and Jake are getting it on in her office.” Dan looked proud while I raised an eyebrow at the news.

“thank you Wyatt.” Dan said before taking my hand and leading us back to the cafeteria. “Well I guess we can have that family dinner tonight.”

I look forward to reading your review of the last two episodes of Walker and WIndy. What do you think of Julia? Is she just an impulsive, rash reporter or is she hiding something? Could she be an accomplice of the Gray Flags? Bonham did wrong trying to get Cordell to leave home, and obviously Abeline isn't happy, as was to be expected. Liam seems very confused about what he has to do. And Kevin? What do you say? He's a good man just a little too pushy or he's hiding something too. And Trey?! I don't understand where the writers want to go with his character. Why fire him from Rangers? I also really enjoyed the WIndy episode. I was pleased to see Hagan (and Mark) again and I hope he will still have a part in the show in the future (if there is a future). But the character that moved me the most is Calian, and the search for his sister. How sad to find her only to discover that her life has moved on but his hasn't. The relationship between Sheriff Tom and Abby was inevitable, sooner or later, just a matter of time. But now things get complicated. By the way, what a beautiful photography this episode has, isn't it? Two good mid-season episodes.

I'll make separate review posts of the two episodes. Right off the top of my head I think:

Julia is one a revenge bender due to her captivity and wants to use Cordell to find the head of the Gray Flags. (wouldn't it be hilarious if it turns out to be Kevin, the guy she's been gossiping with the whole time?)

Bonham never wanted Cordell and his kids to permanently move back home.

Liam has been floundering ever since he was first passed over for the DA job, and then lost his job.

I want Kevin to be a good guy just because I want Jake Abel to stick around. Best case scenario he's an undercover Texas Ranger trying to find the mole at Ranger HQ. Worse case scenario he's the head of Gray Flags and that's why he's ingratiating into the Walker family through Cassie (i.e showing up uninvited for Thanksgiving).

Trey may have been set up by James to be recruited by Gray Flags and go undercover. If Kevin is part of Gray Flags then it makes sense by Trey was being set up by James because he noticed that Kevin is quite found of Trey.

Resolution of Calian and Nacsha was unexpectedly quick but important. Calian's spirit guide took the form of Nascha when he last saw her as a child. I believe the spirt guide was showing Calian how to save his people and their way of life by leading him to Abby who has the education and the allies to help him and his people. The grown up Nascha is more or less happily assimilated into the white world, complete with a good husband, an adorable daughter, and a big house for its era.

Yeah I too thought Tom and Abby was kind of inevitable once his look-alike brother showed up and gave Abby "permission" for a clandestine affair with Tom.

Day 361: Tuesday December 27, 2022 - “Christmas Day at The Finca”

The best Christmas gift given to me this year, was the gift of sleep and I opened it, finally after 9am.  That first breath of Christmas Day was a deep one.  Slowly, this old man stretched out of bed, appreciative of being able to go my own pace and wondering how I got so damn lucky.  I walked out to whats been a pretty normal world of baby boy up in his high chair eating his noodles and mama just makin house.  Howd I get so damn lucky.

I prepped the good camera, and was sure to capture a postcard photo of Christmas Morning 2022, and we called the dogs in to include them and made sure William knew that today was special, and that Santa had come for him being such a good boy, and having such a great year, and let him stroll in on his own through the baby gate, into the great room, to find the special unwrapped toys that Santas presented so carefully the night before. And whats this? A special little surprise?!  A pair of Santa’s gloves left behind...and a note!  A note from Santa on the back of one of his gifts.  So awesome!  And already, Im dreaming about the magic of Christmas 2023 with a two year old.   William was so precious taking his sweet time with each gift.  No particular hurry - because why should he expect anything more?!  He got everything he needed in the first two minutes afterall, with a true blue little blue truck, and a stuffed Abby Kadabby doll.  The real special gift this year was a learning tower to help more safely unlock the air up there to help in the kitchen.  There were plenty of good learning toys, and fancy mind benders, and wonderful books.  So much great stuff to keep his attention for his growing brain on those long daddy weekends to come!  I was more excited than he was.   We slowly moved through the morning, and when it was time for nap, we all agreed to a halftime and it was then as I organized from the first half, and cleaned up the sweet mess, I thought about how much fun this was, and easy.  Howd I get so damn lucky?

After lunch we came back to the tree for some final big ticket items!  We facetimed in with my parents so that Papa and Grandma could connect with William and open presents with us.  I scored a bean bag chair for my office!  I enjoyed the gift of trying to spoil Audrie and making sure she was taken care of for all that she does for us and our family.  She affirmed me later for the thoughtful “self care” gifts, and I hadnt thought of it that way, but yea thats the Christmas spirit...  I love you, I support you, Im here for you.  Thats really the gift I was trying to give.  I want you to know that I know that Im pretty damn lucky.

We got the Christmas Ham in the oven - and it didnt matter how long it took or what dinner would look like - I was resolved to not stress about anything today.  I guess that Christmas Ham was already a couple days late anyway!   When the food was ready, we huddled around our patio table with Audrie’s parental units, then enjoyed sitting around all together enjoying Christmas all together.  The third round, and William still going strong. Precious, secure, happy, right through the end. Not over stimulated, not fussy, not needy or clingy.  Just a perfect little Christmas boy, loving and kissing his grandparents, fascinated by his thoughtful presents, and happy to have us all together, and functioning well.  I looked out at the mess in front of me and though “he’s pretty damn lucky”  - so much love.

Yes, Elena would be mad the second time. But tbh, she has no right to be. If she didn't want Damon sleeping with Rebekah the second time, she should've been open about her feelings. The problem isn't Damon or Elena, it's Stefan. He's hiding the truth from both of them so that Damon continues to lash out. Getting Damon to lash out gives Stefan time to try to patch things up with her. She's still mad at Damon in 3x18, but once he gets taken, she's ready to save him because being mad doesn't mean she wants him dead. She's still in love with him. That's when Stefan confronts Elena about her feelings for Damon and sends her to Denver. Once they hit Denver, Damon knows Stefan's deal but Elena doesn't. Stefan manipulates the situation until he can't manipulate it anymore.

Owen just shrugged and replied with a smile, "I've learned a bunch of things from people who have been fishing way longer than me. Sometimes being taught through someone is better than reading up on the thing you want to learn to do. I've always been more of a hands-on learner—not as much of a bookworm as you." He was feeling pretty good but exhausted and he could tell Abby was in the same state. Hence the eagerness to haul ass (er, burn a little rubber?) and get home so they could start prepping their catches. "Yeah, I'm good. Takes more than two beers to get me buzzed." It actually took a whole case and he could only make it halfway through another before he passed out drunk.

More than once, Ian—his housemate—had to help drag Owen's sorry ass to bed or make him a smoothie in the morning that was light on the stomach to make his hangover a bit more bearable. Ian's father had been a heavy drinker and so Owen would feel like shit about it every time he got too drunk himself and Ian took it upon himself to be a good friend and help when he really didn't have to. Ian knew about Owen's losses in Seattle so he had a deeper understanding as to why the older man would reduce himself to such a state. It had been about two weeks since Owen's last bender and he wanted it to be the last. Hoped it would be. Opening a bottle was always risky.

"We got all the time in the world do we?" Owen parroted Abby. He shifted the vehicle out of park and pulled out onto the road. "Tell that to my stomach and yours then. I suppose you wouldn't mind if I take it easy and coast along at a good five miles an hour while you keep marinating in your sweat. That shower can wait, huh?" He gave her leg a playful shove, his grin broadening. "The only time we can really relax is once we're sitting and watching movies. Food prep is no joke. I sometimes spend a good hour prepping meals for when I go out all day."

“Since when did you become an expert on human crab euthanasia?” she asked, arching an eyebrow upwards and holding back a grin. That definitely wasn’t in any of Lev’s books about the sea but maybe it was in some sort of cookbook and that wouldn’t have surprised her. There was a reason Owen was the chef between the two of them. Abby wasn’t clueless in the kitchen but the sort of feast Owen was whipping up in his mind was definitely something that was out of her realm of ability. “I think I’m good, thanks. Not sure how often crab will come up on the menu but if I need to know, I know where to find you,” she added with a click of her tongue. She wouldn’t have pointed at him if her hands weren’t full but that wasn’t the case.

Ready to walk, she stood in anticipation of directions until the plans changed. “You sure? You’re good to drive?” Not that she was up for much arguing. The heat was taking its toll and so had the overall trajectory of the day. It had been a busy (but great) one, there was no doubt about that. She trusted him and it showed when she didn’t fight in handing over the handful of items she had prepped to haul. He sure was eager to get back and she laughed as she helped open the door up more and hopped into the seat. And there it was, her full name. Still was one of the only people that could use it and get away with it. “Slow your roll, Moore.
