I shall define alternative ships as ships that include someone other than the characters existing in canon:

4.1 Canon x OC

There was a total of 39 OC x canon ships provided by the participants which I tried to categorize in various ways.

First, I checked which canon character is involved in most such ships and it turns out it's Soren!

My data pool is very small so this is in no way representative of our fandom. In a larger sample size, Aaravos could've easily won first place.

Here's a breakdown of the top most shipped characters:

We can see that elves are the most common OCs shipped with these characters, however, there seems to be even distribution among genders. We can only see a prevalence of men among the OCs shipper with Viren.

We can see that there are 1.5 times as many elves as there are humans. Which the difference between cis men and women elves and humans is minuscule, it's interesting that there are no trans men or women elves and no human enbies.

We see that Moonshadow elves are the most popular, followed by Startouch elves.

4.2 Crossover ships

There are a total of 17 entries for ships of TDP characters with characters from other media, with Aaravos being the most shipped of them all

7 people shipped him with someone in total, with the same characters being chosen by different people on a few occasions.

Here are the Aaravos and Viren ship breakdown

You can see that 3 people ship Aarvos with Lotor from Voltron: Legendary Defender and 2 people - with Loki from the MCU. Two people ship him with two different characters from the Elder Scrolls games.

When it comes to Viren, there are no repeated characters but there's a polyship with two characters from the Hades game.

The closer Marie got to the room, the more her exhaustion grew. Finally, opening the door, she was immediately pulled into her husband’s arms, Lotor. “Oh, my love, I was just on my way to bring you to bed.” Aaravos, still perched on the bed, smiled before opening his arms, a silent call to her. Marie reluctantly left the warm muscular embrace of Lotor and hopped on the bed to Aaravos, who patiently waited for her. “You know how much I hate when you push yourself. It’s late, and you’re exhausted.”

Lotor crawled over to the two of you and joined. In between the warmth of her husband’s, she could feel herself slowly drift off to sleep. “Oh, my poor love,” Aaravos said as he laid her on the bed beside him. “You’ve worked yourself nearly to the point of exhaustion. Lay beside us, my love.” His soothing voice was like a siren, hypnotizing her into following his orders. Lotor followed her, looking from above her with a gentle smile. “My poor dear deserves some kind of reward. Wouldn’t you say, Aaravos?” Aaravos thought back for a minute before nodding. “Yes, Marie works too hard when she knows she doesn’t have to. She surely does deserve some kind of reward.” Both looked back to her, finding their wife nicked out cold. “Oh,” Lotor said in surprise. “I guess we’ll reward her tomorrow. Let’s join her, my love. I’m tired.”

The sun beamed through the window, shining down on the sleeping woman, almost as if she were some majestic princess waiting for her true love's kiss to wake her from her deep slumber. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Marie was sleeping well; when she finally did wake up, it was around 10:30. She laid in her bed, thankful that she finally got more than two hours of sleep this time. The delicious smell of bacon filled her nose along with other foods that made her stomach growl. Sitting up, she reluctantly left the warmth of the bed and slipped on her house shoes before heading downstairs.

Marie and her husbands were very well off, and their house was practically a castle. Neither Lotor nor Aaravos would settle for anything less. Lotor and Aaravos believed all three deserved the world, especially Marie, and they were hellbent on giving her everything she wanted despite her protest. All three had terrific paying jobs, so there was no definitive breadwinner in the house.

Finally making it to the living room, the smell of excellent food was all Marie could think about. “Oh, sleeping beauty finally woke up,” Lotor said in a teasing but lovable tone. “Aw, that’s too bad. I was hoping to wake her up with a kiss.” Marie couldn’t help but roll her eyes at their cheesy attempts to flatter her. She drew her attention back to the aroma of the freshly cooked meal before. “Get whatever you please, my love. It was mainly for you anyway.”

An unpopular opinion: I don’t think Shinsou should be in class 1-A. I think his goal to get there is reflective of his all-or-nothing mindset that has been holding him back and part of him overcoming that mindset will and should involve accepting that there are ways to become a hero without the schooling that some of his peers are getting, and being a hero is about doing HIS PERSONAL BEST and doing the right thing, even when it’s hard, not where he graduated from. Also, he has friends in the gen class and I want him to keep and appreciate those bonds.

I’m here to be a fucking pervert joke.”

My thoughts: THEY’RE SO IN LOVE!!! FUCK!!! THEY’RE SO TENDER!!! tHEY’RE SO SOFT!!!! LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM IS SO TRUSTING AND GENTLE AND WHOLE-HEARTED AND SWEET AND GOOD AND KIND AND I!!!!!!!!! DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What makes me happy about them: God, everything? When they call each other’s names, when they stare fondly at each other, when they touch each other’s shoulders in fondness or reassurance or comfort or simply to remind the other that they’re there and they have their back. God. Keith would and did cross the stars to find Shiro, and Shiro CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD for Keith! They’re soulmates!!!

What makes me sad about them: :) Such a shame we never got a season 8 :) I bet we would’ve had a really amazing resolution to the passion and intimacy of their friendship :) Really just such a tragedy season 8 was cancelled before it could ever air :)

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I really and genuinely do not care for femsheith. Even when it’s a genderbend, which usually checks out for me, I am just Not About It

Things I look for in fanfic: A good balance between tenderness and friendship. It’s not all serious heavy emotions all the time, they’re best friends and they LIKE each other, but it’s also not just all goofs and gags, they’re very soft with each other. Also smut.

My wishlist: Not entirely sure what this is asking but

1. Shiro to acknowledge Keith’s confession from the clone fight

2. Keith to try and play it off (he’s a terrible liar so we know this would not work) because he thinks he’s being rejected

3. Shiro to gently take his shoulder in hand and say he feels the same

4. A tender kiss

5. Absolutely nothing about their public relationship changes. They were in love before they confessed and they are not the types to get all blushy and nervous. Maybe they’ll hold hands or sling their arms around each other’s waists in front of others now but that’s it.

6. They do cool space-politics stuff and then travel the stars together after the war ends, retired and exploring all the wonders the universe has to offer them with their cool space dog.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I don’t have, like, alternate ships for them. I like Heith, and Rolo x Keith, but only really as concepts? I like Keitor and Lotor x Shiro (they have a ship name but I’m forgetting it right now) but only in the context of fanfic, in canon I would want him to work it out with Allura so that’s kinda out. I just genuinely cannot see them with anyone but each other, really. 

My happily ever after for them: In a houseboat, but like, for space. Not a spaceship, since those are really big and built for a lot of people, but a spaceboat. Them, their dog, and the endless expanse of space for them to travel and explore together.

Idk I guess I like Claudia x Rayla content but I also don’t really see it? It’s cute to observe? But not something I actively partake in? But I find it charming? I can’t really say if Rayla should be in this list or not. 

Weird one but I think she and Nyx would get along super well

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: SOREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEYRE SUCH GOOD SIBLINGS! 

runner up is her relationship with Ezran the two are super heartfelt

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t think her using dark magic is any different than a butcher carving up a cow to be eaten. Yeah if she’s using elf or dragon body parts that’s fuckin bad, because those are people, but humans have a LONG history of killing animals for food + tools + materials, so using certain body parts for magic is also?? Not the worst thing in the world. If a magic sheep can have its meat turned into mutton, its wool turned into clothing, its skin turned into parchment, and its bones turned into  magic, why SHOULDN’T Claudia use it’s bones? Yes, there’s a toll on her body, but like we’ve seen in the show, Dark magic is a FORM. It requires practice, study, patience. The reason Callum reacts to it so badly is because he’s basically some dude who’s never worked out in his life waltzing into the gym and immediately going for the heaviest barbell. Claudia has studied this extensively, practiced it, built up her “magic muscles” so to speak, and so her body can handle it. Viren also overdoes it, but that’s because he knows he can butterfly the negative affects away and doesn’t particularly care if he gets a little ghostly in the process.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: she and Callum had had a chance to talk it out and make up. They’re friends! Best of friends! They have been since they were young kids! She genuinely was trying to do what she thought the right thing was, that’s all she’s ever tried to do, and I think Callum is the kind of person who, with some time to simmer down, has enough empathy and understanding to see that and reason with her.

Favorite friendship for this character: Callum and Ezran

So Aaravos x Lotor crossover

Before you read this keep in mind that it was developed in two hours on four hours of sleep. Entirely in text messages. (And feel free to change anything about it I just want to read Aary and Lotor)

Lotor’s ship crashes or he just lands there to hide

But we don’t know exactly how old he is just that he’s roughly ten thousand. And idk when Voltron takes place so I’ll make Lotor like 9000 since tdp takes place in medieval Europe

So he lands there because earths atmosphere is oxygen and he’s like “I got air and it looks like they have a lot of stuff I could eat to survive”

OH FUCK IF SENDAK FINDS HIM THE ELVES ARE GONNA THINK HES A MAGICAL ANIMAL AND ATTEMPT TO TAME HIM JSJSJSJSKJS

Anyways he lands in a forest in human territory and they attack him thinking he’s some sort of elf and try to capture him but they have wooden spears and Lotor’s been training for nine thousand years with the galra so he has to kill them when he can’t reason with them

And he starts walking and survives in the forest

And like it’s really easy because you just havevall these small animals?? just running around?? and fruits? everywhere?

And he ends up in Xadia. And he’s smart so after a few days he figures out the moonstone path

And he gets there and he gets a few weird looks because he’s in full armor and also where are his horns? Is it birth defect? But he has pointy ears and white hair so he passes mostly unnoticed. But some of the attention is also from the purple skin because “startouch elf?? Here?”

And there’s the headcanon that startouch elves are pompous douchebags that are too good to hang out with the rest of the elves. Also they do weird rich ppl stuff

So they just assume Lotor is a startouch elf but dimmed the stars on his skin

And startouch elves aren’t warriors but Lotor is wearing full armor

But they brush it off because nobody understands startouch elves

“Why did he cut off his horns?” “Idk man but why do startouch elves do anything?”

And idk if I should set it before Aaravos is inprisoned

Cause if I do it before then he meets Aaravos while walking through Xadia

Because Aaravos hangs out with everyone and doesn’t give a shit about startouch fancyness (also humans. He’s a human fucker too)

And Lotor is intrigued “you have the literal sky on your skin? Such an intriguing speeches. I’ve never seen these constellations before? What galaxies are they from?”

So Aaravos is intrigued by him bc “I thought you were a startouch elf. I must admit I did find it strange that you have no horns but given that my own mother broke hers in half for ”“fashion”“ I assumed you did the same. My father attempted to dip his in molten gold. Oh that’s a story ”

And ong the magic systems just CRASHING

Because quintessence is pretty ominous like they never explain what exactly it does

Meanwhile tdp developed this big ass lore and have everything set up

“I have the power of the universe at my fingertips”

“Oh I didn’t know planet Earth discovered quintessence”

“Quin- no! I’m a startouch elf. ????!!!”

And technically star elves do control the universe since they are the universe

And Aaravos doesn’t care about the Galra succeeding or anything he’ll still rule the universe

And just- I love this

AND AND

Then they leave each other for a while and Aaravos gets inprisoned in the mirror and Lotor kinda moves on bc “1000 years?? ok he left me”

But wait

So

They meet way before Aaravos was inprisoned

Let’s go with Lotor is almost 8050? And meets Aaravos and they explore space

And Aary reruns to earth at some point

Maybe I’ll make Elarion his child or student?

He’s like “I have to go back. The plan is in motion ”(since he can see the future and all that. And like I’m headcanoning that he set up everything. The whole war and dark magic. Cause I assume elves were just looking for an excuse to kick people out and Aary saw the opportunity and started dark magic)

And teaches Elarion but something goes wrong and he ends up inprisoned

Maybe Elarion was supposed to be trapped in the mirror but she placed the blame on him and ran away. Or they discovered that Aary helped and they’re both inprisoned separately

So he doesn’t come back for a thousand years so Lotor eventually moves on

“Did we really have anything?” And waits for him to come back but you know it’s been a thousand years and he started developing feelings for Allura and then the show happens

Then he gets trapped in the quintessence rift and Aaravos finally escapes the mirror (he manipulates Viren and I’m not gonna ramble about Viravos because you already know the deal)

So idk if he does develop feelings for Viren or just manipulates him. We’ll see

AND AND Voltron makes a big deal out of time and realities

And Lotor arrives on earth through a worm hole. So he was supposed to arrive in idk the 90s but the worm hole landed him in medieval Europe

So basically he accidentally time traveled and when he went back to the universe with Aaravos- so like

>they travel through space

>Aary says “I gotta go and do my star magic plan”

>(Aary kisses him right before he leaves and that’s their first kiss and Lotor is surprised but doesn’t have time to reply. And basically [ill wait for you to come back speech] [kiss] [Aary disappears]

>Lotor leaves earth through a worm hole

>worm hole takes him to the future where VLD events happen

>he doesn’t hear from Aary since he left and when he meets Allura he decides its time to move on. Maybe he’s dead? Lotor doesn’t know and Aary has no way of contacting him

>when Lotor dies in the quintessence fiend he gets reunited with Aaravos because Aary is literally the universe and Lotor got consumed by it

When your Sexy Bad Guy goes Galactic!

I have a collection of those guys, one for every elemental affinity, etc.. so I needed one for galactic stuff too. Plus I was always one to love this aesthetic.

Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji

I’m not a fan of this manga (its a bit too fanservicy or even lightly pervy for me) but watch this man in the movie adaptation Book of the Atlantic and you’ll understand it...

He’s kinda like my old interpretation of Madara in which he is goofy most of the time (as the Tobi persona) so Undertaker is goofy most of the time just pretending to be an idiot and in this movie he’s like revealing his true self and its very entertaining to watch... he changes from water to wine. 

Plus: his undertaker persona and interest in reviving people is Kigaly-worthy of fun and he has a baddass scythe on top of that

He has a mysterious past, widely speculated by fans and apparently he’s final boss material, etc... plus a very likely tragic love story in his past with the protagonist’s grandmother... lol

He carries around a memento medal with her name and some of her hair in it and calls it her treasure, nuff said. I’m sold.

Very nice looking dude on top of that.

Other User Added Ships

We’ve discussed the main ships, consisting of canon characters only. Now I’d like to discuss the following:

self-ships;

ships with OCs;

ships with characters from other fandoms;

crack ships;

ships I couldn’t classify.

1. Self-ships

These are the ships where a person ships themselves with a character. I didn’t receive a lot of these, which is surprising, because I’ve seen quite a few people self-ship online.

It is a shame, because self-ships are great and they are a really neat indicator of how desirable some characters are. Like, sure, you can have a character that is loved by the fandom, like, say, Amaya. Many people love Amaya for different reasons, but some people actually feel sexually or emotionally attracted to her. Of course, not everybody who feels attracted to a character ships themselves with that character, but quite a few people do.

It’s possible that many people are embarrassed to admit it even in an anonymous poll.

Here’s a pie chart of all the self-ships I’ve received:

The number inside each slice represents the number of people who voted for a given ship.

With such a tiny sample, the margin of error is huge! It’s still fun to see that Aaravos is the most desired character, which coincides with my observations from simply browsing the internet.

2. Ships with OCs

Okay, I’ve seen a lot of awesome TDP OCs shipped with various canon characters (the majority - with Aaravos), but I only got three people adding anything OC related:

People put lots of effort into their OCs, but I feel like they don’t get enough appreciation. Someone should organize an event for TDP OCs (whether it’s romantic OCs, fanchildren, or OCs needed for the plot of someone’s story). It’ll take me some time before I’m done with the shipping poll, so I’d be really happy if someone else took this task upon them :”D

3. Ships with characters from other fandoms

I got only one - Sormiko (Soren x Kimiko Tohomiko from Shaolin Showdown)

4. Crack Ships

A crack ship is generally a ship that is somehow unusual. It can be something utterly bizarre, funny or sometimes - disturbing.
