Dr. Sarita Robinson aka “Dr Survival” is a leading academic researcher in Survival Psychology. Sharing how to improve your chances of survival in disaster situations.
Dr Sarita Robinson is Deputy Head of the School of Psychology and Computer Science at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Sarita is one of the world’s leading academic researcher in area of survival psychology and so is often referred to as Doctor Survival. Survival psychology focuses on how people respond in disaster situations – everything from a terrorist attack to a ship sinking.
Sarita has spent over 15 years researching people’s reactions to disasters. She focuses on trying to work out why some people are more likely to survive than others in emergency situations (and what we can do to improve our chances of survival).
Sarita is keen not to rely on dusty books to inform her academic research and so has undertaken some hands-on survival training. This means Sarita has had some hair-raising adventures, including completing training in Helicopter Underwater Escape, Fire-Fighting and Coastal Survival.

11. Who you are tomorrow begins with what you do today. – Tim Fargo
Looking back at my previous drawings, I would be really ashamed and embraced showing the work I had been producing to others. Considering them now I am able to understand that not everybody is able to be born naturally in the creative arts field. Some of us actually need to work for it and our path will be rough throughout to reach where we want to be today.
Below are drawings that I had produced for my Arts and Crafts class when I was in O’Levels. I remember at the time my art teacher told me that I would never be a creative student, that I just simply did not have it in me. I was fine with this idea as I was not interested in the art class at the time. But now reflecting back, I feel that if we were to have a teacher passionate about the subject matter maybe my views on the subject would be different.

Later on, when I began my A’Levels I was more interested in the subject psychology, but since I was the only one who had registered for the course, the administration had requested me to change my optional course and I ended up taking Fine Arts. Who knew? The work that I produced here was different. I was able to see things differently as the teachers here were more interested in the subject and put their heart in teaching the subject. The work produced had changed drastically.

Furthermore, I actually got a good grade and the highest in the whole class. Then my teacher advised me to go ahead and peruse in the Creative Arts field. Looking and reading on different options, I finally went ahead to study architecture. My family was worried about my decision as no one had pursued this option before, but they supported me through. I wanted to challenge myself, wanted to push my boundaries to the fullest. Part of me wants to prove some people wrong but most of me wanted to be more practical and critical within my disciple. Initially, since I wasn’t born in the field, I failed the first year in architecture and was ready to give up as my background was in the commerce field. I needed more time to process the ideas and concepts of this new field, so my professors advised me to stay and continue as they saw potential in me. They provided me with books and articles to read on architecture and told me not to give up so quickly. Later after 4 long years, I graduated as an architect happily producing work that I enjoyed.

This journey and the drawings produced by me from O’Levels right up till today has had an effect on me. As a young designer, I am able to critically analyze that not everyone is going to end up what they hoped initially. Time is a funny thing. It is able to get you to the appropriate stage in life without you even consciously knowing. Honestly, I never thought I would even do my masters and out of all in the UK. Well, here I am perusing my masters and taking the next step in life. As Dwight D. Eisenhower states “Accomplishments will prove to be a journey, not a destination.”

Hello
Ayesha Shahid here, and I hereby welcome you to my blog. I’m 17, in my first year of A’levels in LGS 1A1, having done completed my previous studies from LACAS. I opted for Business Studies and Psychology along with Media Studies as this combination could allow me to choose a career I want to pursue from a wider ranger. I have always found Media Studies interesting and was eager to learn more about it, which being the reason why I chose it. More about myself, I like everything along the lines of binge watching TV shows, reading books and art.
Through this blog, you will be able to follow along my very much likely embarrassing struggle of achieving an acceptable grade in this project. Enjoy.
