I have had the best time being part of this fandom so far. Whatever I expected when I first rocked up in September 2022, it wasn't this. What a time we have had. We've been through so much. We've laughed, we've cried, we've swooned, we all became experts on baseball, TV ratings, various laws, and probably know a map of Austin better than we know a map of our own hometowns. I hope with everything I have that this place continues to thrive with love for Tarlos and 911 Lone Star. I hope that I've made some friends for life. I hope that this time during the show's run will be remembered fondly. We got unlucky with this cancellation, but oh my goodness, in other ways we have been so lucky.

The time I met @heartstringsduet irl in London last year and wore the below t-shirt, which I got at the 2023 Paris Convention with @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut by my side 😭. And just being able to talk to them in person about life and the show and hug them!!!! And speaking of the 2023 Paris Convention – I got to to look right into the ultimate cow-eyes and tell this guy that he played my favourite character of all time:

It turns out my favourite shows require

1) A slightly neurotic poetry loving 14 year old in red and blue who needs to gain more confidence and break away from making deals with the shadowy, powerful villain with a music motif who preys on the lost souls of people desperate to hold onto those they love

2) He does so with the help of his younger step/half brother with a frog (or toad) because his mom got remarried even if he still isn't entirely sure what to make of his stepdad

3) And with the aid of a snarky, shady, secretive non-human girl who pushes him to take chances while also trying to atone for her family baggage at the cost of being too mission focused / sometimes overly self sacrificial, but the boys are Her Idiots who help her and help her lighten up even if protag boy started out liking another girl at first

4) Plus an emphasis on sibling / brotherly bonds and maturity, growing older and taking responsibility for your actions, learning how to lean on each other, etc.

5) And there's magic scissors / daggers / diamonds that help free the girls (and their families) of their imprisonments just as she helps the boys return home when their journey into the great unknown she hails from is over

Anyways watch The Dragon Prince on Netflix and Over the Garden Wall wherever you can because they're both top tier shows

AU in which the calamity trio ends up in Amphibia at like, literally 3 years old or something. Maybe on the same day they met each other, playing in the playground together, finding the music box and vanishing without a trace.

They end up in the same places as they do in canon, but the relationships they form there are much more literally familial.

Hop Pop legally adopt this weird warm-blooded tadpole and raise her as Sprig and Polly's sister. The town was suspicious at first but quickly grows to adore her. She doesn't leave the valley until she's 13, alongside Sprig, to deliver some crops from the farm to a far away acquaitance of Hop Pop's, not knowing this trip would change her life.

Marcy is taken in by Andrias, who never married and has no heir, and she tells him about how mean and scary her parents are back home, so when Andrias asks if she would like to be his daughter and become a princess, she immediately says yes. His advisors are concerned - surely his Majesty doesn't plan to cede the crown to this alien once his reign ends, does he? They shouldn't worry, though. His plans for her are much bigger.

And Sasha... jeez, Grime locks her up in a cell and interrogates her endlessly, terrifying her and making her cry at the mere sight of him. So while one friend gets to live the goblincore cottagecore dream and the other becomes a princess, the other one is kept in a cell for months as a small kid. It's not until she gets terribly sick and nearly dies that Grime goes a little easier on her and gives her a proper room. And it's not until one day that, at age five, she tries to stab him, and he sees a potential warrior in her. He decides to train her, not knowing she'd grow up plotting her revenge: she plans to kill him and take over Toad Tower, becoming strong and powerful so that all the toads that terrorized her as a kid will one day kneel at her feet.

They all think they're the only humans in Amphibia, and they all barely remember Earth at all. Their lives are here. They're not friends. They don't know each other. They may not even remember they were playing with other kids when they were transported here. However, their paths inevitably become intertwined, when word starts to run of another one. Rumor has it that the new captain of the South Toad Tower is neither toad nor frog nor newt, but of a strange species with warm, dry skin, or that the Princess is not a newt, unlike her father, though you wouldn't know if you didn't live in Newtopia to see her wandering the streets. The true encounter happens one time that the Captain herself takes it upon herself to collect taxes from a young traveler, and she freezes for only a second at the sight of her - any longer would show weakness - and takes advantage of the traveler's shock to strip her and her frog brother of all their belongings.

News travel to Newtopia quickly, despite Andrias' best efforts. It's known that the Princess had an knack for getting the information she wanted, and General Yunnan just couldn't keep her mouth shut about her next target: the strange creature that took over Toad Tower and that, in some ways, looks an awful lot like the Princess.

Today's shamless promotion is one of my very favorite musicals, A Year With Frog and Toad.

Shockingly, not many people seem to be aware that the beloved children's book series is a delightful children's musical! The musical follows the "plot" of the books fairly closely, so if you've read the books you'll recognize the various vignettes, like "oh no we can't stop eating these delicious cookies" and "flying kites is hard actually" and "squirrels ruin an attempt at anonymous kindness."

What's the plot? Frog and Toad are friends (possibly queer "friends" if you like, there's more on this online if you want to get into it). They do things together and sing songs about it. It's very cute. Also, some other animals show up to sing songs, the best of which is Snail, who is doing his best to deliver a letter even though he is verrrrrrry slowwwwwww.

Who should watch? People who love nice things. Like, literally, the embodiment of nice, and also cozy. Frog and Toad is a great listen when you're feeling a little blue, or just need something cheerful on as you go about your day.

You definitely don't have to be a kid to enjoy it, but if a man earnestly singing about how he loves being a frog and being happy in the warm sunny summer doing nothing but chilling with his best friend makes you cringe, well, Frog and Toad is not for you.

Anything triggering? There's a song called "Getta Loada Toad" with the refrain "Toad looks funny in a bathing suit" which isn't explicitly fat shaming but sure isn't great for body positivity. Fortunately, it's easy to skip on the soundtrack.

Can I watch it online? Sort of! Frog and Toad is a pretty simple show to stage, with only five cast members and basic sets, so there are quite a few local/amateur productions filmed and on youtube. However, I recommend listening to the soundtrack first, as the songs are best when you can hear them properly.

What's the best number? My personal favorite is probably "Merry Almost Christmas," which is about how it's (surprise!) almost Christmas and Frog and Toad are together and is'n't that nice and lovely? Kids, however, are more into "Cookies" and "Down the Hill," which are more energetic and fun.
