#a very non-party-friendly sort of character

-Character A
-Aloof loner
-Hasn't been with party that long, hasn't had time to develop positively or get especially close to the party
-Tried to reboot her with a more friendly direction to account for that, it just didn't really feel natural or fun, and also another character's death immediately adjacent to that kinda forces her back into a bad headspace for a session anyway, before I can use it as a motivator to more naturally/gradually shift in the intended friendlier direction
-During that overall brief phase of negative mood, is rude in a minor way (sitting in a beanbag while wet on purpose) that comes off worse due to knowledge that neither she nor I had until after the fact. (Beanbag actually belongs to the party's youngest character, not the member she was actually trying to get under the skin of and who owned the house the beanbag was in) This is treated as high sin.
-Funeral for deceased party member is held. She wants to be the last one present at burial site, but don't want to impede on others' Big Moments, so I attempt to have her retreat to a more-than-respectful distance to let that work. DM continually interprets her distance as much closer than it's meant to be, and resists and eventually shuts down my attempts to clarify/correct that. End result is just hiding nearby, distracting from and overhearing the moments I was trying to avoid distracting from or overhearing.
-Finally, due to the out-of-character discussion of her whereabouts, other player characters refuse to budge specifically to foil her efforts to be the last one there, completely preventing her from getting the chance for any sort of similar moment as they had gotten, until she has to just give up on hiding and follow them back to the city; dogged to keep her with the group, and one further attempt to separate herself and double back is pointedly foiled.
-All she wanted was to use druid powers to make the grave site prettier, a slight bit of positive development that would ONLY COUNT if she was alone for it, and they'd only see the effects after passing back through later, otherwise given prior characterization it would just come across as making a (figurative and literal) show of caring. And it was foiled maliciously at every turn.
-Also OOC everyone hates her character and wants her to do a complete personality 180 that just wouldn't and couldn't make any sort of sense, otherwise her continued presence would apparently make everyone fucking miserable. Despite refusing her the chance to do literally anything to offset that in a way that would feel natural, and her overall vibes being much less combatitive 99% of the time than Character B's average.
-I point out this discrepancy and the answer boils down to "she just sucks, make her smile more and do it now"
-Internalize maybe she is a fundamentally bad character for the game, but still can't see any way to change her that would be fast enough for the rest of the party and that I would actually like playing. So decide fuck this and quit, have her just leave the party in-universe. And since making a new character wouldn't have made sense at the time due to other factors, out-of-universe retreat to a spectator position until I can feel better about playing again, and an opportunity to bring in someone new presents itself. (Neither has occurred yet.)
---
Character B
-Edgy loner
-Has been with party for ages, has gotten closer, but still edgy loner with a long rap sheet of party-alienating moments
-Nearly kills an NPC important to another player character due to faulty/invomplete information, but is stopped for out-of-universe reasons at the last second
-Player who's character the NPC is relevant to is still kinda pissed, says she would be a bad character, if she had gone through with it. Rest of group isn't even upset over any of it
-Overall, this is a chance to kickstart further positive development and stuff, and treated as such by most of the group
#not a reblog#d&d#for the record#I don't even think character b is bad or anything#but is definitely on the surface#a very non-party-friendly sort of character#edgy and mostly unrepentantly so#and again has had several past instances of very dickish behavior#meanwhile mine was trying to thread the needle#of character development vs consistency#between stoic and separate but overall inoffensive#and more of a team player#but she's rude one time#and not given a chance to make up for or offset it#and people decide that's her entire characterization#and the only way for her to not be#some sort of crime against humanity#is not a return to her original reseved state#or a gradual shift from that to openness#but a complete 180#anything less and she's literally satan#and its just like#what the fuck#and like all that is old drama#unresolved sure but old#but hearing about this most recent incident with Char b#kinda dredged that back up by association#and even with time the frustration is still raw#the only think keeping me from quitting the group entirely#is wanting to DM a certain thing and tbh this tests that desire

Ancient Greek Characters and Stories Featuring Greek Gods

Fantasy short. In a temple of Zeus, a beautiful stranger tells a story of Hades and Persephone. Rated T, 3.5k, with a new appearance from Ganymede Cavendish.

Very Well
Romance short, 7.5k, rated M. A herbalist is dispatched for his role in an arranged marriage of sorts with a priest of Aristaeus far from home.
Temple Service
A servant at the temple to Hephaestus lusts after an olive-tender.
Rated M, 2.2k, cis M/M, some ancient Greeks! A temple servant and a grove-worker, lots of teasing and banter and flirting.
Pretty City Eyes
A sailor has an encounter with a pretty man in a coffee house. Rated T, 1.5k, some M/M. A pirate from Lesbos throws himself eagerly at an anonymous handsome man — haughty Paris.
Without Mercy
2.6k, rated M, M/M. A retired mercenary seeks out another Spartan — the man, in fact, responsible for the deaths of his family. Featuring massage, guilt, banter, back-and-forth.
Strange Passage
There is something queer afoot on a sea captain’s vessel. Fantasy short. 3.1k. There is a stowaway on the vessel of Captain Tom Warren, and he determines to get to bottom of it.
A Night On The Mountain
In 1954, Loki goes to a party on Mount Olympus with the angel Asmodeus and his brother. Featuring Jean-Pierre Delacroix, Asmodeus, Loki, Dionysus, Ares. A little under 10k, with a bit of Loki/Asmodeus in places — some slice-of-life, some Greek god stuff, a lot of angst and emotions stuff.
Spilled Wine
After observing a magical ritual, a mage more closely observes the priest.
More Cicero Penllwynog with a priest of Dionysus — some post-ritual magical sex! Explicit M/M erotica between two cis men, 2k.
Wine Barrel
The angel Jean-Pierre lets himself get caught by the all-too-friendly Dionysus.
Rated E, trans M/everyone at a party. Featuring object insertion, inflation with a womb filled up with wine, unsafe alcohol consumption, lactation, milking, public humiliation, voyeurism, transformation, very drunk sex, sadomasochism, free use, objectification, begging, multiple orgasms, overstimulation.
There’s no real discussion of consent here, but Jean-Pierre is very much into the whole scenario and trusts Mr Zagre (Dionysus) implicitly, and at no point actually wants to extricate himself or for the fun to stop.

I’ve made a post on this already, but after acquiring heaps and reams of knowledge, I’ve decided to go at it again.
(From Mine’s TV Tropes page.)
I cannot stop anyone from wanting to view Mine as bi, and my intentions don’t lie there. But instead, I wanted to bring up that it hardly seems like the intentions of the devs and especially Yokoyama. Mine is a pretty big deal in being a heavily implied gay character regardless of having been a villain, partly due to how he’s just as masculine as his peers and his love for another man is a core part of his characterization where sympathy comes into play. On top of that, they do not shy away from heavy handed hints in his total lack of interest in women romantically and sexually.
Yokoyama is not only a non stranger to commentary on how much he loves Mine, but he’s also made remarks that imply he finds it funny that women are attracted to him though they can’t have him.
RGGO is particularly revealing about this thanks to how much room it gives to focus on character elements they couldn’t do in the actual games.
—A beach event in Okinawa has Kanda wanting to throw a party and see who between them can invite the most women. Mine is less than uninterested, but still winds up getting a few women interested in him. He can’t seem to outright reject them, but gives them very bland answers.
—This is a big trend in other Mine centric stories. Upon being asked by a woman if he’s by himself, he gives a slightly roundabout answer instead of outright saying anything more direct. He agrees to do something with her despite his ongoing lack of enthusiasm.
—As told, he’s gone on dates with women thanks to being unable to turn them down (he’s interestingly kind enough to women even though there’s some popular jokes about him being a misogynistic gay man). But if he sees a woman once, doesn’t really see them again. All in all, this is incredibly different from many other yakuza men who adore women as they slot into the three important status symbols: power, money, and women. All things that Mine brings up at the end of 3 as stuff that wasn’t really giving him any meaning or purpose in life. His line about having any woman he could want goes largely misunderstood. Especially after he ends that line with saying living life that way was a lie.
Comparing an outright love confession to Mine being thankful to have had Katase around feels almost laughable. On one hand, I’m at least glad the person who wrote this acknowledges the romantic feelings with Daigo, but on the other hand… “heavily implied?” With Katase? No… Not every meaningful statement or even so much as breathing the same air as one another between a man and woman is grounds for love.
Genuinely, it feels like they’ve done nearly everything but outright use any direct wording for his sexuality. He’s the only character they’ve gone this far with. Others get more vagueness or subtlety.
(From Majima’s)
(From Zhao’s)
I’ve talked to @04tenno quite a bit about this. And as usual, they’re the reason I know quite a bit, too.
Majima’s section is bizarre to me for immediately throwing out there that he’s a huge ladies’ man. (This was listed elsewhere in his section). Which is just… hilarious. Sure, plenty of irl female fans adore him, but in universe, he’s nothing of the sort and often interacts with women by using a more friendly tone of voice (probably to seem less intimidating) along with other behavioral changes. I also take up issue regarding the way the person who wrote this seems to completely downplay Majima and Kiryu’s relationship to the first game. But that’s a whole other conversation…
Zhao’s section feels incredibly different compared to the other two due to how the person writing it seems to completely lean into the potential signifiers and stereotypes surrounding him and includes other instances beyond that. There’s nothing about him being in a hostess club automatically meaning he’s attracted to women. As such, even a lot of dudebros seem to openly view Zhao as not being bisexual, but instead, straight up gay. This seems to be due to the fact that Zhao is never shown playing into the typical mainstream macho type stuff as opposed to Mine.
I didn’t take a screenshot, but Daigo even gets the assumed-to-be-into-women-because-he-was-next-to-one-treatment. While he went to hostess clubs, he looks so extremely despondent and out of the moment when we see him there. I can’t find it in me to assume he’s attracted to women just because he went to those types of clubs. His sexuality is totally up for debate as several others are as well. And we can all see him however we want. But, overall, immediately assuming things for such and such reasons starts to feel a little off to me. All in all, Mine gets this treatment the worse thanks to his sexuality actually being a big factor in his character.
#yakuza#ryu ga gotoku#like a dragon#yoshitaka mine#queer characters#gay character#queer analysis#sort of in a way maybe possibly#Mine Yoshitaka my favorite Daigo kisser#majima goro#zhao tianyou#I sure hope this makes sense and reads well because I always get uncertain of myself with these things but anyway#who’s going to take it upon themselves to add an entire Ho yay section#anybody? …anybody? no…?#but like I said you can see things how you want of course#it’s just kind of funny to me that some have picked up on Zhao not being excited to be in a hostess club but some others#immediately assume Daigo was overjoyed to be at them himself…apparently#maybe he’d be happy in some other instance but from what we were shown buddy boy is dead inside#also Project X that crossover game was crazy for having Majima talk to women the way that it did like bro that’s how he talks to men#women get the nice customer service voice with a side of playfulness

Peek-a-boo, I see you
Tiktok put a gun to my head and made me aware of Wally Darling, so have a random little fic for him to exorsize this bastard from my brain lol.
The creator is Clown shaped coffin if I remember his name right, and this is entirely non-canon fun. Just enjoy it as a spoopy kind of x reader junk food, and RESPECT THE CREATOR’S BOUNDARIES YOU HEATHENS.
Old tv shows were a mixed bag. Some were cheesy, dated, and full of misinformation, especially old children's educational shows, and some were sketchy and blatantly unacceptable by the modern standard. Which proved to be a fun betting game for you and your friends. So, when you found a box of dusty, sun-yellowed video tapes in your attic that had likely been left by a past resident, relics from the olden days of cable and the first VHS's, You thought a watch party of sorts would make for a fun night for you and your friends. Which, it had been! Even if finding a VHS player in today's modern time was a hassle, Welcome Home was a fun mix of colorful and energetic, simply oozing a charming abundance of cheese for your little group to enjoy. Which, made it all the more enjoyable to commentate over the child-friendly plots and loveable characters. From playing the low-stakes plots far too seriously, to wolf-whistling and making sly jokes about characters like Frank, Poppy, or Eddie, you and your friends had a blast as you watched about half of the first season. Which, was more than enough time for one particular character to wander his way into your heart and make it his home. Wally Darling. Wally Darling was easily a favorite amongst your friend group as soon as it was brought up how long he took to do his hair each morning in one episode. Which, had earned him quite a few playful comments and jabs, while the lot of you watched. Plus, he had been such a sleepy, relaxed character in juxtaposition to the light-hearted energy of Barnaby, or the bubbly extrovertism of Julie, so you found yourself putting the cheesy kids show on even after your party. "Geez Wally, are you only going to paint apples?!" Julie asked the main character on one of the occasions you had the third season playing for white noise during chores. "He could paint something a lot pervier, Julie." You said while folding clothes on your bed. Repeating a joke you had admittedly made more than one time at the episode and still laughing at your own implication as the episode obliviously played. Going through the motions of the bubbly girl dragging the yellow-skinned, blue-pompador'd artist around to find a muse that wasn't his favorite fruit. You, meanwhile, sat and half watched while you folded a towel and mulled over your to-do list for the day until the tape ended and you had to rewind it yet again. "Have you ever wanted to have a chat with your bestest friend, Wally Darling?" The Salesman in the opening ad asked, sounding as if he'd chugged three Monsters before recording the pitch. Showing clips of the aforementioned doll as he continued, "Have you wanted to ask him a question, but didn't know where to send a letter? Just say hello and how much you enjoy the show? Well, fret no more! for 25 cents a minute, you don't need to write him, you can call!" His words making you chuckle. After all, phone services nowadays were almost extinct, if they weren't more aligned with...adults than children. So, hearing the man pitch an outrageous price for a simple phonecall with someone claiming to be a cartoon character to assumedly children, was amusing. Though, to have such a wild price for a call must mean this show was fairly popular. Wonder why I've never heard it mentioned, You mused while the first episode began to play. Only to have a sudden thought pop up in your mind, Wonder if I could call the number still. It was a rash, impulsive thought. The number was almost certainly defunct and abandoned, it was bound to not go through and be a waste of time to try. Which, you knew very well. But, that didn't keep you from digging around in the scattered piles of folded and rumpled clothing until you found your phone half hidden under a stack of bed sheets. After that, dialing the number was a breeze since you'd heard that ad so many times. And, to your surprise, the call even seemed to go through! Just as fast as your curiosity shot up though, you jumped at a sudden, shrill scream of an old phone ringing. Yet, the only phone you had in your home was your cellphone, which was singing out a different chime into your ear. Which, only left one possible source for the sudden ringing in your room. The television. Granted, the phone on tv ringing normally wouldn't have been an issue. Wally was the Elmo of Welcome Home, he obviously got plenty of phone calls from his friends. It was just that...Wally wasn't supposed to have anybody calling him this episode. The episode was all about seeing a day in the life of Wally Darling. From his hour and a half of hair care, to his bedtime routine, the viewer was meant to follow him through the entire time. And, while yes the episode did have a one or two minor conflicts he helped with, they came up while he was out and about. So, by all forms of logic, his phone shouldn't be ringing. "Oh, seems we have a phone call." Wally drawled in his lazy, spacey voice. Pausing his explanation of what he often ate in the morning and what made a balanced diet to head for the land-line he had sitting on it's own little table beside his favorite armchair. However, before he could pick up and maybe speak to you, you smashed 'end call on your phone's screen and watched with no breath in your lungs as Wally's phone went silent as well. Earning a simple, "Oh. I guess they changed their mind. We'll have to be faster next time, neighbor." and a smile from the puppet. That wasn't in the script. The thought kept circling your head, taking over every possible sense with a fresh coat of fear with each lap. That wasn't in the script. Wally never gets a phone call in this episode. He never says that. You didn't know what to do with that information. It wasn't like you could blame a coincidence after all, you'd seen this entire tape from beginning to end more than once, and not a single time had Wally gotten a call this episode, or mentioned one. Yet, there he was. Acting as if your attempted call had been almost expected, and just returning to his script as if you weren't physically shaking like a small dog in a thunderstorm. What do I do? Do I tell my friends? Google it? Get a check-up? You thought, watching Wally go about doing the morning dishes blithely and mention his need to go to the shop for some groceries. Yet, that impulsive voice returned when Wally paused at the door, "Though, let's wait a moment. Just to see if that neighbor calls back." He suggested to the camera, "I'll give it two minutes, after that I really do need to go see Howdy." Yet another change from the script. An invitation, by all accounts. As if Wally somehow knew you were there. Watching him, still holding your phone, and debating trying to call again. I should call my friends. I shouldn't poke at this. The rational side of you said, leave this shit ALONE. Yet, you did neither. Instead of calling one of your friends to get their advice, you hit the redial option and looked back to the screen. Watching the puppet's bright red phone ring again, and the blue-haired...creature, pick up. "You know, neighbor. It's very rude to hang up so abruptly when you were the one to call." He hummed, his spacey, quiet voice drifting into your ear as crisply as if your best friend were speaking. Not only that, but he'd somehow known who had called him despite his land-line having no form of caller id. Wait, why is he- is he SMUG about my calling? You asked yourself, putting a hand to your chest to mindlessly try to slow your racing heartbeat while your brain whirled with panicked thoughts. Was it just a lucky guess that he knew you were calling back? Did he just know? Could he see you? As if to answer your questions, you honed back in on the episode, and sure enough. Wally was simply sitting in his arm chair, smiling and staring at you with large, bottomless voids for pupils. "Hello? Hello~" He sang finally, forcibly grounding you and assuring you that yes. This was reality. "Cat got your tongue, neighbor? Is there something you needed?" he asked, as if it were nothing more than one of the usual calls Julie or Frank might make. Yet, you could still hear the knowing tone laced into his ambling voice. Wally Darling, knew all too well what he was doing. Instantly, you wanted to simply hang up and shut off the tv. You wanted to unplug the thing and chuck it out your window like a frisbee. Yet, you couldn't bring yourself to move an inch under that haunting stare of the cartoon character. So, you instead dry swallowed the lump in your throat and squeaked out, "H-hi..." "Oh, there you are." Wally hummed, "Was there something you wanted to talk about? Or did you perhaps need my help with something?" "N-no..." You forced out, barely a whisper through the terror that rooted you to your bed in a shocking state of calm. Adding quietly, "I just...tried this number." "Oh, well I sadly can't stay to chat. I have to go shopping before I forget." He told you innocently, giving you a sweet smile that now seemed sour as he added, "I would love it if you called again at a later date, though. Then, we can have a nice, lengthy chat. Good bye neighbor, I love you." With that, Wally put the phone back in it's cradle and the episode seemed to go back to utter normalcy. Wally going out to shop as if the conversation had never happened. Just, leaving you physically shaking on your bed with your laundry forgotten. And, admittedly, you stayed like that, utterly frozen, until the tape once again reached its end. Only then, you found you could launch yourself at the vhs player to snatch the black rectangle out of it. Quick to slap it back into its yellowing case and gather the other videos. All of a sudden, you could understand exactly why the original owners might have abandoned those seasons in the attic.

I hope I'm not too late to the party, mon ami. I'm always up for a good fight... Consider me your Ace in the hole.
Indie Remy Etienne LeBeau roleplay blog from Marvel. (moderate comic & HC influence) . Non-selective and open to AU, OC, and crossovers. Discord given to mutuals only. Personals do not interact. Rules under readmore. ( Sideblog to @endsupes )
Rules and Notes
First of all, thank you for visiting this page. Even if you only skim this, I’ll love you forever. Most of these rules are pretty basic, common sense stuff, but I would really appreciate it if you read them. I know it’s long, but I’m just trying to make sure no one is offended or uncomfortable. I’ll try to make this as painless as possible. Bear with me. I’ll try to bold the basics.
— the basics.
I have a few verses to choose from, and I’ll probably place you in the one that will most easily fit with your character’s canon unless otherwise specified.
Remy isn’t always the most pleasant person. Please know that anything mean said is not a reflection of the mun’s feelings. IC =/= OOC.
Don’t god-mod.
OC and Au friendly, but please have an about page so I can gauge whether our characters will be able to interact.
Memes and opens are free game – anyone can send one or respond to one. However, I may not respond for some reason or another: it may be in violation of one of my other rules, or due to external factors. If you’re worried that I missed something, feel free to come to me about it, but please don’t constantly badger me for replies. It’s rude.
I reserve the right to refuse to roleplay, especially if I’m uncomfortable.
DO NOT under any circumstances try to bring me into out of character drama. If you have a problem with me, contact me privately or just unfollow. Vague blogging, callout posts and the like are annoying, and I ask that you would tag them. This is something I will unfollow over if I so please.
— on selectivity.
I will be selective with my threads and who I interact with. I would love to interact with everyone, but I’m very busy with school and other blogs, and I don’t want to overload myself. If this bothers you, feel free to unfollow. If you have any questions about whether I have time, feel free to jump into my ask.
Also, I am far more likely to RP with mutuals. That’s not to say I won’t RP with those I don’t follow or those who won’t follow me, there may be exceptions. But it is far more likely. That being said: if I follow you, I want to write with you. Probably a lot. I’m just too shy to say anything because I’m a weenie pissbaby.
Starter calls, unless otherwise specified, are for mutuals only.
— on content.
I’m 20+, so mature content is cool with me. NSFW and triggering content will be present on this blog, but it will also be tagged in the following manner: n.s.f.w., tw:
As for smut: first of all, I will not smut with anyone under the age of 18. Don’t ask me to; the answer will be no. And just in general, don’t come to me looking for smut. I’m not terribly good at writing it, so it’s very unlikely that it will occur on this blog. I need to be pretty comfortable with someone to smut with them. If by some miracle a thread is looking like it’s going to get smutty, feel free to hop into my ask and talk to me about it. We’ll figure something out.
In relation to that, please do not send me overtly sexual memes if we have not interacted. Kissing memes are fine, but I tend to get uncomfortable with anything beyond that. Please respect this.
— on replies.
I’m an adaptive roleplayer, meaning I’ll likely respond in a manner similar to yours. If you format, I’ll format. If you don’t, I won’t. That sort of thing. I also try to match length with my replies, but some days I struggle. If you’re ever unhappy with the quality or length of a reply, please let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it.
I don’t always get to things right away. I’m notorious for avoiding drafts, and especially right now, I’m pretty busy with schoolwork. However, sometimes I’ll reply at the speed of light. It’s really varied, and I’m sorry about that.
Sometimes, I’ll drop things that’ve been in my drafts for too long, or things that I feel aren’t going anywhere. If you think I’ve dropped/missed/lost something that you wish to continue, come to me politely and we can talk about it.
— on shipping.
I’m admittedly kind of a ship-whore. If there are sparks, I likely ship it. I ship Remy/Chemistry, but again, it’s rather unlikely that Remy will engage in a sexual or even a romantic relationship. Them’s the breaks. BroTPs are great though. Also, I’m only human: I sometimes play favorites with my ships. Sorry.
Please please please DO NOT force a ship on me. It makes me extremely uncomfortable, and I will not hesitate to unfollow or even block you. I will try to politely let you know if I feel that our characters do/do not have chemistry.
— on credit.
Most icons, art and edits are made by myself, and are usually tagged as #my art or #my edits. Otherwise, I do not own anything!
— on the mun.
My name is Élise, I’m 20+, living in Midwest America, EST. Feel free to contact me via ask at any time. I love talking to you guys! Discord is available to mutuals upon request – again, I reserve the right to refuse to give these for whatever reason. I have no triggers, so as long as you talk to me prior to introducing something triggering to a thread, I’ll be cool with it. Just talk to me about it beforehand and I should be fine, but if I’m not feeling it, please respect that.
That’s about it. Thanks so much for reading these. Smooches! <3

IT’S HALLOWEEN IN EVERMORE!
As everyone in Evermore knows, the mayor goes all out for the holidays — but what they may not know is Halloween is his very favorite of them all! The month of October is practically a holiday in itself, with fun, spooky things to do all around town, so if you're feeling festive, you're in luck! This event is not mandatory, but if you do wish to participate, feel free to start threads for any of the mini-events at any given time! We’ll be tracking the tags #evermorehqh23 and #evermorehqsoutfit.
One of the large town buildings has been temporarily converted into a haunted hose with three paths of fear levels; family friendly, just a little spooky and nightmare material. Do them all... or choose wisely!
On the second, the thirteenth and the twenty sixth the art center will be hosting a pumpkin carving contest, with $100 for each first place prize, $50 for second place and $30 for third place!
Every weekend of October there's a new escape room to take part in. The first theme will be a zombie, second is creepy carnival, the third is glow in the dark and fourth is a murder mystery, each increasing in difficulty. Can you escape them all?
The pumpkin patch is open all month for hayrides, mazes (of the spooky and non-spooky sort), pumpkin picking, apple canons, and a large playground for the kiddos to run off some energy while their parents relax by the firepit.
On the 25th Mayor Reed is throwing an all day costume party at the town square with free refreshments, apple bobbing, cornhole and horror movie trivia games; the most creative costumes get goodie bags, so don't be afraid to stand out!
The drive-in theater will be showing various Halloween movies all month, as well as offering half-off ticket prices to every person that shows up in costume.
Many of the houses around town, and all of the governments buildings, have gone all out with decorations, so don't forget to take a nice stroll around and see all of the blow-up skeletons and giant fake spider webs!
The night before Halloween there will be a parade through main street lasting from sunset to midnight. There will be free apple cider and hot chocolate for everyone, so bundle up and enjoy the live performances and many floats traveling down the road!
On Halloween day everyone is welcome to hand out candy at their houses or join the local trunk-or-treat where any resident that wants can set up their own booth or decorate their car and hand out bags of sweets, toys and/or homemade treats. This lasts from 6 pm-10 pm and all ages are welcome to stop by. If you want your character(s) to have their own, we would love to see it!

tell me about valsethera and those angels and jon 👀<
The specifics of Jon deValjio's extended family drama (which we CAN get into) will have to wait until we get back into roll20. Simply know that he's from a Pathfinder 2e campaign, in which four characters from four very different settings are brought into a world that appears to be grafted out of pieces of countless other worlds. All of them are great.
Jon deValjio is a human cleric from a desert continent that used to be a single massive kingdom, and has since fallen into chaos and been consumed by political infighting. He is a follower of Soralyon, a deity of architecture and ruins, and he basically wanders around trying to uncover pieces of lost history in the naive belief that people are all arguing because nobody knows what the truth is! Their history is being lost! So, naturally, if he can just find all the answers, he can tell everyone and everything will be okay again! No more endless conflict consuming the country or leading to heated political arguments over dinner! Right?
And of course Soralyon would never steer him wrong! That's why every time he gets a weird urge to do something or something unexplainable happens, he is more than happy to go along with it! Because they're in this together! Sure, he kind of got sent to the top of a tower and saw that he'd been somehow transported away from everything he's ever known, but that has to be happening for a reason, doesn't it? Of course it does! He's meeting people from so many new cultures! He is learning so much! And can he be honest? It's kind of nice to get away from all the... you know, all the arguing and everything? Everything with his family and his brother – not that he wants to get away from his brother, of course! His brother's great! Have you heard about his brother? He's a real hero! Like, a real one! Jon never really had the stomach for that. Never was the most popular. But this is great! He's like, a research hero now! He bets that he'll go back home when the time is right. You know, once he's learned the thing he's supposed to learn, and he can go back and teach everybody! Maybe it'll be the answer to everything! No one has ever had an opportunity like this before! It'll turn out okay in the end!
Notably, Jon is from a culture that has almost no non-humans. It does, however, have aggressive feral dragons that raid small towns and eat livestock, and sometimes people. This has led to some tension and confusion between the tiefling bard (who he assumed was some sort of dragon person??) and the party monk, whose monastery worships dragons (eastern dragons, generally benevolent). He gets along great with the party android investigator, because they are both awkward nerds who are determined to figure out all the secrets. We were expecting some juicy drama to come out of the whole situation. Two sessions in, everyone somehow ended up being legitimate fast friends. It even felt earned. He and the tiefling bard even bonded over their worlds being full of weird hierarchies and political bullshit! The monk taught the bard how to meditate! It was great!
Jon rules. He takes notes about like, everything. Very friendly. Kinda clueless. A little self-righteous. A lot naive and head in the clouds. He also has a sickass religious tattoo that makes his entire right arm look like it's made out of banded agate from the elbow down.
As for Valsethera and those funny angels... say, what do you think happens when beings of pure law try to help run a city of humans?
This piece of comedy gold happens. Please behold.
(Featuring the amoral lesbians Des and Aanei, one of whom fed her master to the other, and then who agreed to an ill-advised bargain for power out of a covetous urge to take control of her own life, and a deep and hungry curiosity. The sea demon was also fueled by the covetous urge to see a mortal gorge herself on power and desire and to see what havoc she would wreak if she accompanied her. Deep and hungry curiosity all around.)

⭐️⭐️ hi!
Every ⭐️ exchanges for a headcanon (or we-haven't-plotted-yet theory / plot bunny) about our characters' (potential) dynamic.
Hi hello!! probably there is some other configuration that we can build as well this is absolutely not a the-only-choice situation but right now top of head I am thinking it'd be really fun to both offshoot into third party space/mutual-AU situation because I am really into your fantasy verse concept and always love to play with his fantasy verse so with that in mind I think it'd be like:
Lathyae and Araneae are ..at least friendly, if not completely in a state of allyship, and that Araneae was one of the first to make that sort of a public stance instead of off-book dealing, lending legitimacy to Lathyae's shift from criminal enclave to sovereign nation. (Non-conventional kings gotta stick up for non-conventional kings, right?) And so from that, I have this idea of maybe Andie and Henry knowing each other from a pretty young age, but in a sort of formal context? So instead of like, being close per-se it's more they see each other for very specific but regularly occurring events, when one court pays visit to the other. Like the cousin you hang out with during the big family reunions and that's the only time you ever see them. So they'd have this ongoing sort of 'I have know you forever, I know very little about you' tie to each other. Because even as open as they both are, seeing someone once every year (twice in the busy ones) just... doesn't lend to being really familiar with someone.
...Which, as Henry gets... wilder, I think has the potential to cause a little bit of tension, between their belief and defense styles.
But really I think. There would be an interesting security in that sort of connection anyway. And I think as Henry starts to wrestle in earnest with whether he's going to keep delaying all his responsibilities or let the court really sink its teeth into him, he might look to her? Ask about how she feels about her position, what she does to keep sane as all the focus turns her way. Starts writing more often, and finding more reasons (some real that he volunteers for, some made up) to pay visit and spend a few days. And so the gap maybe begins to narrow, by the time we catch up to the current day vibe?

Task Eleven → Intro & Connections
Alice Little // 22 // Creative Writing Major // They/Them [Biography]
+ Creative, Curious, Friendly - Over-Imaginative, Impulsive, Careless
Quick Facts:
Alice Little has always been a dreamer. Sometimes it does them well, but often it simply leads to trouble.
They have a funny way of looking at the world, and thus, sometimes find it difficult relating to their peers. Growing up, classmates found Alice “odd”, but it didn’t bother them, as they didn’t mind going off and exploring on their own.
Alice is non-binary, using they/them pronouns, and is an ace lesbian.
Has a pet cat named Dinah.
Will talk your ear off if given the chance, especially if it’s about something weird or will lead to a deep, philosophical conversation. Be prepared for Alice asking 100 questions a day.
Alice disappeared for over a month in 2021, after the town’s annual Halloween party. They were found in the woods in the middle of December, returning with confusion and memory issues that they are still recovering from. [Here] and [Here] and [Here].
Alice hasn’t been “right” since they returned but is desperately trying to ignore it and return to normal again. Alice said they don’t feel like themself anymore, and they are certain they have the memories of “another Alice”.
Taken Connections
Best Friend - Alba Laplan @vvhitevvabbit
God-Mother - Lorelai Hart @queencfharts - A close family friend, turned Alice’s God-Mother. They have a complicated relationship, and has only gotten more complicated after Alice was found.
Friends - Berlioz Beaumont @berlioz-beaumont, Sofia Bach @sofia-bach, Anastasia Tremaine @itsme-anastasia Rose Bryar @itsrosebryar
A Question Mark? - Rita Jacobs @ritasaysrelax - Rita keeps hanging around Alice. At first Alice thought she just wanted to be friends but is now suspecting malicious intent when Rita revealed information about Alice’s family that she couldn’t have known.
An Acquaintance - Cyrus Geennhiww @cyrus-geennhiew
The “Rescuer” - Toulouse Beaumont @beaumont-ague - Toulouse found Alice in the woods after they went missing.
Wanted Connections:
Family - Alice’s sister, Mia, in particular.
A Crush - with the pure intention of this being one-sided. I just think it would be cute for Alice to have a playground crush on someone.
Old Bully - someone that used to pick on Alice for being weird in high school.
Therapist - Alice has been in and out of therapy since they were a kid. They were back at it again for a while but have stopped going, which probably isn’t a good thing.
The Suspicious - Anyone who is as suspicious about the weird things happening around town as Alice is. Someone willing to explore hunches or places with Alice. Maybe even someone who wants to know what happened to Alice (with or without their best interest as heart).
Honestly, anyone who feels sorry for Alice disappearing. Maybe they’re awkward about it. Maybe they’re weird about it. Maybe they can’t stop coddling Alice.
Wanted Plots / Plot Ideas
You Shouldn’t Be Here - Alice is a nosy parker, and very often finds themself exploring places they shouldn’t be. Sometimes they don’t even realise they’ve wandered into the wrong place before it’s too late. Sometimes they do. They have been known to wander into dangerous buildings and so on. In this idea, Alice gets caught by your character somewhere they shouldn’t be and it leads to all sort of trouble. (Or, your character and Alice end up exploring this place together!) They could just be trespassing, or they could overhear a conversation they weren’t supposed to. Totally up for spitballing on this one!
Gullible - Alice is roped into something they should have known better than to get roped into. Alice can be pretty gullible, and fairly easily lead if you tap into their gullibility. This, naturally, must lead to some sort of trouble or guilt or emotions or smthn. Alice is definitely going to be all over the place emotionally and mentally again fairly soon due to some plot developments, so is a prime candidate for some manipulation.
Y’know what tho, someone could very easily peer-pressure / persuade Alice into getting high. Who knows what kind of weird conversation you’d get out of them then.
If there’s anything you’ve ever wanted Alice for but haven’t wanted to ask, hit me with it now! I’m always looking for more threads and plots for Alice. They don’t have as many threads / connections as some of my other characters and I’d really love some more!
Wanted Characters
Characters I would love to see taken/ an OC for (in relation to Alice) that one day might get bios:
MIA LITTLE - Alice’s older sister. Mia is level-headed, strict (to the point of being stern) and hard-working. While she loves Alice dearly, the two often clash with one another, due to having oppositional personality traits. Mia wants what is best for Alice, but is frustrated that Alice is so scatterbrained and doesn’t focus enough on the important things, such as academics and work. Alice gets frustrated that Mia tries to be “mom” instead of treating them like a sister, and wishes she wasn’t so uptight about everything.
Any other weird and wonderful background character from AIW if you’re looking for someone vague enough to build a character around. The Tweedles? Pat the Dodo? The Doorknob? So many options!
With Bios: Chelsea Katz & Maddison Harrigan
Chelsea Katz - A reporter for The Daily Hollow, who is trying to investigate & report on the weird goings-on in town without losing their job. They’ve likely interview Alice about their disappearance, and in turn Alice has likely picked her brain about a few things in the past.
Maddison Harrigan - Co-Owner of the Hatter & Hare. Alice visits their store fairly often to see what curiosities they have in. Alice has yet to be invited to one of the famous Hatter & Hare tea parties, but would absolutely love to attend one day.

School has kept me from being able to fully focus on sitting down and writing (plus I've been more social) but I wanted to give a little update on my writing endeavors
NSM AU
The first one I wanna write is Curse of the Anacondrai. I wanna characterize Chen very specifically as just your very odd eccentric noodle man and Clouse is his shadier financials guy. Also his wife is going to be in this bc it's my AU and I get to choose the canon. Skylor is here too to help and provide me with fun character interactions.
I am unsure of how long I want it to be but I feel like 1-2 chapters should suffice, with one being an exposition and the other being solving the mystery. I am trying not to overcomplicate it in my head and keep it to the vision of very classic Scooby Doo mystery shows. The hardest thing to choreograph will probably be the normal visual gags esp the chase scenes. I wanna somehow give Cole and Jay the same goofy visuals that Shaggy and Scooby get but I don't have any SFX to work with
And I do know who's behind the mask ;)
Monster Living AU
"Thissss reeksss of cultural appropriation" <- Skales at some point he will be helping the Ninja
So I definitely want there to be a lot of these monster themed areas, the main one being Serpentine Square, which is the grandest endeavor built out near the (now destroyed) City of Ouroborus. I also want Oni, Sea Monster, Skeleton, and Ghost themed areas. I have an idea for the conflict but I'm not sure how it will be resolved. Kruncha and Knuckle are definitely living in the Skeleton one.
I'm also trying to figure out how the ninja get wrapped into this, with part of me almost wondering if someone reaches out to them to sponsor or promote the villages and when they go to visit alarm bells start ringing.
Patty Keys will be making an appearance as the real estate agent helping people move in and buy these hot new properties
Finally, I'm debating on if this place should be marketed more towards the "Monster Adults" of Ninjago (probably alt kids in their 20s-30s) or more towards families. The branding of MMAP kinda gives more kid friendly vibes but also the aesthetic is very alt core and the main conflict might work better with that vibe going on.
God AU
This is just self-indulgent. What if when EMs die they ascended? That's this AU and it's just the EMs immortal lives in a cloud kingdom (not the one from the show). This is the only AU so far I'm definitely including my OCs in although they'll probably make guest appearances in the others
Some thoughts I've had so far include
* Lloyd and Luna rule over the Light and Dark parts, also acting as Order and Chaos. Each has a team of EMs who fulfill similar duties in each realm
* Jasmine is called "The Alchemist" and is part of Luna's realm. She has this castle dungeon lab of sorts where she basically does unethical experimentation and occasionally goes to visit Nya on the beach at night
* The previous generation of EMs are there and enjoy causing havoc bc they do not have to be responsible. Lily and Duke host concerts every morning to herald the sunrise
* Kyle, Jonathan, PIXAL, Ronin, and all other mortal, non EMs who were family, aids, friends, or lovers get to join the party when they die too. Jonathan is Jasmine's kind of assistant and is pretty jaded after a Tragic Backstory. Kyle is like a page for the entire light realm and spends a lot of his free time with Jay
* Jackie and Lloyd wife and husband ruling this kingdom and basically having to keep their friends from petty, world ending squabbles, that is all

GEN.
this blog uses the beta editor.
this is an independent roleplay account for phoenix wright / naruhodo ryuichi of the ace attorney series. presently unaffiliated.
i havent played any of apollo justice or the herlock sholmes games. im making my way through them. i've played all aa games centered around phoenix and have read through the others, however. sorry if i get anything wrong while i'm absorbing the remaining canon material.
i am exclusively games based at the moment. minor project x zone influences, completely unfamiliar with stage play.
dont disrespect me. i will block for a number of reasons. i dont care enough to deliberate the semantics of existing on this website and slash or in the same space. i am a human being, please treat me that way.
i would prefer to be hard blocked if interaction is no longer desired as i may otherwise accidentally refollow you. i'm stupid.
i don't care about tumblr drama. talk to me if theres something you want to sort out, block me if there isn't. i'm autistic and almost 30 and will not "take hints".
ART IN HEADER BY SABERTOOTHWALRUS; REBLOG HERE.
WRITING.
i am extremely slow. i am mentally and physically ill, developmentally disabled with a number of responsibilities to attend, and other blogs.
i'm extremely crossover friendly. given the nature of aa, i can and will pair phoenix with anyone and put him in any situation. please, if i follow you, write with me. unless all attempts at interaction go ignored (not just slow or late, i dont care about time, i mean actively ignoring me), i will always follow you / wait to interact.
follow basic rules. be kind, avoid godmodding. etc. i dont care about minor assumptions to move threads along and all.
i prefer para to multi para threads, but may engage in a few sentence threads from time to time.
as for formatting, please feel free to format to your hearts desires; i will always use small text, and usually an icon, but i don't care what you do or do not use in your own replies. however, if i'm struggling to see your icons or read your text, i may end up dropping a thread for my own comfort.
i portray phoenix as biracial, one parent being ashkenazi white jewish and the other being japanese. to account for the name discrepancy between localization and source content, phoenix's "japanese" name is the name used in his household and growing up, whereas "phoenix wright" is his professional name and the name he generally prefers to go by ("wright" being his father's surname). phoenix was a nickname he was given as a child, which eventually evolved into 'nick'. my faceclaim is ryan potter.
while i will happily do court threads, this will involve extensive plotting and clear communication between myself and the other party. i will require you to give me information such as purported evidence and how you would like the scene to go. please keep in mind phoenix does not defend clients he believes are guilty, so it is preferable to me if your muse is genuinely not guilty of whatever you have in mind for them. otherwise, i am completely happy to do non-court threads..
TRIGGERS.
this blog will handle topics that are typical of the ace attorney series, such as murder, gun violence, etcetera. i don't think i'm going to tag these as AA is far from gory nor does it portray these subject matters in any aggressive or forthcoming manner. however, i will tag most anything if you directly ask.
please tag pet death, pedophilia, and a/b/o or omegaverse content for me. repeated failure to tag will result in an unfollow.
there will be nsfw content here. phoenix is a grown man.
SHIPPING.
i am 100 percent fine with shipping, with both ocs and canons. i have no "preferred" ships, so, am fine with developing any and every. each ship (unless stated to be otherwise), will take place separate of others.
i am not comfortable shipping with very young characters. I DO NOT SHIP PHOENIX WITH MAYA. i will block you for putting this content on my dash untagged ("phoenixmaya" is a good enough tag for me to block, please), or trying to initiate it with me, no warnings, as it tells me you haven't read my rules. my primary canon-adjacent ship is wrightworth, but i'm open to shipping phoenix with anyone as long as they're a consenting adult and over 20 at the start of ace attorney 1. phoenix is bisexual.
i will not assume wrightworth is canon if writing with a miles, but i'll always portray phoenix as having feelings for miles, resolved or otherwise.
INTERACTION.
i will block you for putting certain people on my dash, especially "known" individuals, like miles. i reserve the right to follow and unfollow as i desire.
AS OF AUGUST, 2024, I DO NOT FOLLOW FIRST IF I DON'T ALREADY KNOW YOU. as in we're mutuals on another blog, or friends. you aren't discouraged from following me if you're interested in interacting, i just don't follow first anymore; i'm shy and don't like stepping over peoples boundaries.
i unfollow after like 7-8 months of inactivity. if you come back to your blog, if you quickly unfollow-refollow me, i'll get the picture and refollow you. or you can dm, i don't mind either way.
i am a gay jewish trans man (i identify with the term ay'lonit) and use he/it pronouns.

Pop Convention: Looking at Codes and Conventions of Boy Bands
Working through analyzation of contemporary musicians and their associated ideas and media, an important and thoroughly recognizable case came up in the identity of the boy band. A boy band can be loosely defined as 'a small ensemble of males in their teens or twenties who play pop songs geared especially to a young female audience' (Merriam-Webster).
Representation:
Key elements of the representational appeal of the boy band include:
'Non-threatening but cool': Being presentable enough to bring home, but exciting and cool to the newly independent teenager
'Same but Different': The members are often similar in dress, poise and attitude, but to maintain interest and create attachment there must be a difference in terms of personality and and position in the band.
Intertextuality: as is the case with multiple music videos of varying band types, there are many references to existing media texts. In the case of boy bands, these references usually pertain to male groups or gangs, or characters of similar reference material to the 'character' of each boy in the band.
Technical Codes: In music videos, boy bands often perform tightly blocked, with coverage of performances intercutting with shots of the band performing in a studio setting, or just hanging around. Often close-ups are used for shots of the boys, and mid-shots and sweeping coverage used for audiences, and videos of performance.
Mise-En-Scene: Images of youth hanging out are popular modes of presentation in boy band music videos. The idea of performance at a party, the boys 'performing' as they spend time together, is also an expression of youthful, harmless hedonism. Another element includes 'attainable' props and costume, things that are familiar to an audience. This helps create a sort of kinship between the audience and the band, a connection that makes them more down to earth and appealing.
Narrative: Usually relatively simple storylines and images, with a heavy focus on performance and the presentation of the band. Examples can include getting ready for a performance or party, or hanging out and socializing with other young people.
Putting Butter Through the Wringer
youtube
In working through examinations of music-based media texts, I wanted to examine more contemporary iterations of the boy band in order to see if they can stand their ground - or subvert it - in the face of typical boy band codes and conventions
Non-Threatening but Cool
Despite wearing rings, earrings and dark clothes - something typical of a more 'misfit' disposition - BTS comes off as playful and friendly through their boyish bravado and musical collaboration.
The black and white colour grading and dark, edgy costume emphasises the 'bad-boy' side of things, but through their displays of silliness and a general fun attitude, they appear non-threatening - cool enough to appeal to a younger audience, but not overzealous in their representation of coolness.
This edginess comes to a front in their mugshot coverage shots, with the group piled together against the backdrop of a police lineup wall.
However, a quick slick back of the hair and a smirk imbues a nearly sarcastic attitude to this shot, implying the group know how to make fun of themselves and their general representation.
Same But Different
BTS, despite having very similar stylistic and attitude related elements in the video, signify each member's pre-established idiosyncratic character at various points in the video.
Jimin, one member of BTS appears here in a suit and tie, in front of what seems to be a press panel mic stand. Given his solenes, and the lack of the rest of the band, it gives the impression that he has some admin significance amongst them all, as there stands an implication he is answering questions on behalf of the band.
This becomes apparent as he clicks his fingers and reveals the rest of the band, and establishes him as an almost 'leader of the band' type figure.
Jin, another member, also seems to have a somewhat directorial position, given that he is shown here to be in a directors chair, with the backdrop of the rest of the members behind him.
All the boys get a moment to shine however, through a presentation of each of their individual styles and dance moves in egalitarian quick succession - here none of them are raised above each other, all are given the same screen time and equal presentation.
And, a final shot of the team together to finish
Intertextuality
Butter appears to indulge in both musical and filmic references, with educator Dr Colette Balmain suggesting the song and video as a whole is a "celebration of contemporary pop culture".
Balmain notes that the opening lyrics of the song 'Smooth like butter / like a criminal undercover' are a connective reference to Michael Jackson's references to gangster and crime films of the 40s and 50s.
In this scene, the head of the dance formation, R.M wears a suit similar to Spike Spiegel in the anime show Cowboy Bebop
The aforementioned police lineup shots also harken to Wong Kar-Wai's Fallen Angels
Technical Codes
In the video there are a number of different scenes of coverage that are shown of the band, as well as their performance. Slightly subverting from traditional MV norms, there are no videos of them performing in a crowd setting, but there are multiple clips of the band performing group dances in various backgrounds and settings.
Conforming to technical norms, when the boys are together, the band is shot in wide or mid-shots, allowing for maximum coverage and a presentation of the band's dancing skills, also while fostering a sense of kindred spirit and synergy between the members.
Also conforming to standard music video codes are close ups of the band members, highlighting their style and general aesthetic.
This allows the audience to easily identify each member, a technical cue that allows for a promotional advantage, given that fans can pick a favourite, or 'bias' as it is called amongst k-pop fans, and subsequently accentuate a sense of fondness or kinship with the band.
BTS also features members of the band when the song does not correspond with what they are doing, often including dance numbers at the chorus or opening, or general shots of particular members of the band 'hyping-up' or supporting the more predominant, singing member. Something that further emphasis the fun, boyish nature of the band.
Mise-En-Scene
This is an area in which BTS subverts the most expected codes of a boy-band. The idea of performance is a feature, but it is often to a very accentuated, world-class level; the band, despite their seeming friendliness, do not seem approachable due to the highly stylised and artificial backdrops, expensive clothes and general secular nature.
In this shot, formation leader Jimin is identified in wearing a luxury designer-brand shirt, that of Gucci. To the average consumer, this would not be easily attainable or accessible, perhaps creating a sense of unhealthy aspiration or detachment from the band in the process.
The band also performs in huge, golden-lit stages, something with seems to labour the idea of their world-famous and high class musician appearance. This further gives the idea that, through their presentation as almost exalted, the audience cannot quite relate to them, nor view them as approachable people, perhaps a contrast to the more down-to-earth, homely and fun loving teens à la One Direction.
Narrative
There is a definite narrative to the butter music video. The band seems to be pre-arranged, ready to perform, dance and sing for the camera, without any sense of narrative plot, goal or destination. Despite some visual cues, such as Jimin's press panel, or the police lineup, these scenes seem only to be played for an aesthetic purpose; to build the image of the band and members, and demonstrate their versatility.
There are some curious contrasts between the narrative hints we do have however, such as the press-panel curtain pulling aside to reveal the band dancing in what appears to be a high-school or college gymnasium. Or the lineup coverage, previously shot in black and white, suddenly appearing again by the end of the music video in colour, the band now detached from the constraints of their height-measuring background, and free to dance in a free, empty space, wearing the same suits, but losing the mugshot card they previously had.
To Conclude
Overall, BTS largely conforms to most areas of typical boyband representation, with an emphasis on the brotherhood spirit of the band, the fun lives they live, and they highly-stylised, pre-mediated performances zones of their music. However, they do perhaps lack in what has historically been some of the more important elements of the boyband, that being the building of a group narrative, which helps to define synergy, and the friendliness and approachable appeal of the group. That being said however, BTS has enjoyed unbelievable success, being officially accredited with being the most successful boyband in the world, and have become one of the most successful, and popular bands in the world. This perhaps signals the arrival of a new type of boyband, one that could easily alter norms and expectations of what a boyband is and represents for multiple years to come.

Side Characters
These are the additional characters in each Union.
Shattergarde - Vulpes
A fairly large party split into several smaller friend groups. Nagare's subsection includes...
Crest
A non-binary keykid using they/them pronouns, Crest is the effective ‘leader’ of the group, despite their low rank in the greater party. They wield Sleeping Lion’s third upgrade in battle, and take a very dainty stance in combat. They love helping others, and help Nagare bring food across borders on numerous occasions.
Jasper
The youngest of the group, Jasper uses he/him pronouns and bears a higher rank in the main party than Crest. He wields Darkgnaw’s second upgrade, but doesn’t like combat itself. He prefers to talk through his problems with others, especially when it could turn sour so easily.
Geo
Nobody knows much about Geo. Pronouns, gender, age? All of it is up in the air with this pumpkin-helmed keykid. They wield Treasure Trove’s fourth upgrade in battle, and seem eager to fight, no matter who they’re against. Perhaps something more sinister lies beneath their crown, or perhaps that occasionally-flicking red tail belies their true nature.
Chloe
Despite how it may seem, Chloe is the oldest of the group. She’s bubbly and excitable, but knows when to be serious, too. She wields Fairy Stars at its second stage, but prefers to fight with her hands if she has to fight at all.
Thunderstars - Unicornis
A party of five lead by Zekai, primarily for the purpose of delivering food across borders without getting caught. This party includes...
Miriam
Easily-dejected as she is, Miriam is just as easy to perk up. Just tell her about a pegasus she might see, and she’ll be bright-eyed and ready in a jiffy! She wields Olympia’s fourth upgrade in battle, and is Zekai’s right hand. A bold girl with her own affections for her leader, she’s willing to step into his role when he disappears.
Pascal
Pun intended, Pascal is a very sweet and loving boy. His older brother has a reputation as a chocolatier, so he spends his time ‘advertising’ for the family business. He wields Diamond Dust in battle, but doesn’t do much fighting, so it’s only the base form. But while he can’t fight, he can certainly sew!
Kassie
Though she has a kind appearance, and looks like someone you could trust with your Neopets password, Kassie is anything but. She’s a troublemaker, and seems eager to cause people harm. She wields Fenrir’s fourth upgrade in battle, and is rarely seen without it due to how often she fights.
Alex
A very kind young man brandishing a staff instead of a Keyblade when the opportunity arises, Alex absolutely loves helping others. Despite his threatening looks, he’s not threatening at all- anyone who’s met him can attest to this. He only wields Missing Ache’s base form in battle because he was told he needed something to keep him safe.
Cthulhu's Aposte - Leopardos
Based on my original, real KHUX party, Ryunami's group is a bit odd in terms of leadership. However, it includes...
Phantom
The leader of the party in actions, but never in name. Phantom has a competitive spirit and loves to join Ryunami in battle. Like her proper in-game counterpart, Phantom wields Stroke of Midnight’s fourth upgrade in battle. Her skill with magic is unparalleled, but her raw power is somewhat lacking.
Maastie
The proper leader of the party in name and title, Maastie is a gentle soul who rarely, if ever, organizes any sort of group activity. They love to talk, though- it’s often all they do! So much so that their third-stage Three Wishes is very rarely seen. Despite their sly look, they’re incredibly friendly, and want nothing more than to help out.
Menx
Menx is the organizer of the group, and is a leader in his own right. He transferred from Ursus when Maastie first chose her Union, therein dropping his party’s rank by a fair margin. There’s some speculation that his name is like those of the Nobodies in their medals, but he ignores these allegations. He wields a fourth-stage Missing Ache in battle, and insists that people are ‘reaching’ when they imply it has a meaning.
Prince Rooibos
The only thing most people know about Prince Rooibos is his title. His name isn’t even known by his party members. But he’s here, and he’s perfectly fine with being unknown. He wields Sleeping Lion’s second stage in battle, and has been known to fight with a backhanded style, similar to Ventus.
Sacrificed Embers - Ursus
A band of misfits brought together under Inokosu's leadership. Though close, their bond feels as though it could fall apart at any moment. They consist of...
Roselia
The youngest in the party, Roselia has taken it upon herself to poke a little fun at the older wielders. She’s fairly carefree despite their circumstances, and seems to harbor affections for the party’s leader, though it’s uncertain if he returns them. She wields Counterpoint’s second upgrade in battle, and specifically tries to play into her party’s strengths.
Icarus
Even Icarus couldn’t tell you where he came from. According to him, to be on two feet is uncomfortable. But he’s doing his best. He has a lot of trouble with his first-stage Treasure Trove, and would much rather avoid combat as a result. But he has been known to bite people if he can’t swing his blade. Be careful.
Leana
Roselia’s older sister and an excellent craftswoman, Leana is well-known across every Union’s territory for her clothcraft. She has dabbled in almost very craft, yet still remains best at sewing. She doesn’t fight often, and only wields a first-stage Starlight. Despite her inherent lack of combat prowess, she still has a personal relationship with a former Lux-collecting powerhouse, and often receives gifts from Leopardos as a result.
Nebri
When Menx left Ursus, his place in his party was filled quickly by Nebri. He played up his story well, how his party had disappeared save himself. His glittering crimson eyes and soft voice won Inokosu over, and he was allowed into the party. Nebri wields a third-stage Darkgnaw, and seems to be terrified of Master Aced. He seems to have an ulterior motive for everything he does, and people aren’t sure if he can really be trusted.
Quiet of the Serene - Anguis
The party associated with Anguis only gathers when Eileen is around, and they don't seem very close. They consist of...
Lucian
A brash, hotheaded boy with a heart of gold. Lucian doesn’t quite know what he’s doing, but he’s pretty sure it’s his best. He wields Darkgnaw’s fourth upgrade in battle. Really, though, he doesn’t like combat all that much- he’s just along for the ride.
Melody
Though not her REAL name, Melody is well known across Daybreak Town, similar to Leana. She’s known for her music and her roving band of herself and three non-wielders. She wields Counterpoint’s third upgrade in battle, alongside her own songs for dramatic effect. She’s fairly close with Ryunami, who likes to listen to her performances.
Lux
A keykid whose name is not, in fact, from the pure, crystallized light that she’s been made to collect. That was an unfortunate accident. She wields a second-stage Starlight in battle. Her disdain for the desert is the only thing keeping Three Wishes out of her hands.
Silver
An over-energetic girl who was simply too much for most parties in Vulpes, She collects stray Chirithies like some people would collect cats. Silver wields a second-stage Diamond Dust in battle, but isn’t too great at magic despite this. In reality, she’s more concerned with her Chirithy rescue.
The Lupulelli - Outsiders
A small group of survivors from Luxu's experiments with magic, most of whom are older than the notion of Unions. They are...
Nandalia
A girl taken in the first wave of recruitment for Luxu’s personal ‘union.’ She was given fire magic, which burnt her face and left her blind. However, she can ‘see’ ghosts. She’s gentle and kind, but also incredibly protective. Regrettably, she lost her Keyblade with her sight, but used to wield Three Wishes.
Langley
Also taken in the first recruiting wave, Langley was used for a similar experiment. The sounds of the magic infused in him, wild and ferocious, ultimately took his hearing. He can still communicate with ghosts, but relies on Nandalia to know where they are. He can no longer fight for himself, and seems to always be cold- perhaps the magic took more than just his hearing. Thankfully, Nandalia seems to always be warm- they balance each other out, as they have for hundreds of years.
Enora
The only one to survive the second recruiting wave, Enora was a lucky near-failure. Her soul was bound to a metal star in Emrys’s possession, but her physical form was lost. Mortals cannot see or touch her. She is still hopelessly in love with Emrys, and if his sorrow means anything, he feels the same, even all these centuries later. Perhaps someday, they’ll be able to share these feelings with one another.
Mayan
A very new addition to the Lupulelli, Mayan is a boy with extremely potent magic, but no Keyblade. He was bequeathed a copy of Starlight, but it never came to his hand- the offer of strength was made, and he accepted with no hesitation. Later on, he helped a Unionless Wielder out of the forest. He was impressed by her strength, but didn’t catch her name. However, he’s not about to just not look for her- the lack of knowledge only makes him want to see her more.

A Review of D&D 4e of all things
I have a ttrpg bucket-list of sorts, an itinerary of games I want to play eventually. Among those is every edition of D&D. Or, at least, D&D up to 5e. I don’t think I’m interested in One D&D. I’m pretty close to crossing this item off the list; all I have left to play are the various permutations of original D&D, BECMI (if it counts as substantially different enough from B/X) and 3.0.
I just recently got around to playing 4e. Fourth edition always had a sort of mystique around it for me, it being the black sheep of the editions. There’s also a strain of 4e-alikes/heavily 4e-inspired games being cultured in the indie tabletop sphere at the moment (Lancer, Fabula Ultima) that got me curious. I like tactical combat (which is this edition’s thing) so I figured what the hey.
For reference, I am the GM (as always).
The Good
Easy to prep. One of the things that made me stop playing 5e was the amount of prep, whether it was trying to balance the unwieldy CR system, working around player characters' busted abilities, or trying to ignore the ways in which the implicit worldbuilding of the system clashed with my homebrew setting. That is not the case with 4e. Prep is looking up stat blocks and making up guys for the party to talk to. That’s it.
Easy to reskin races. A weirdly specific one for sure but I personally don’t like what others call the “travelling freakshow” party. When I run D&D-like games, you get your pick of human, elf-/dwarf-/halfling-analogue, and wildcard. Races in 4e don’t have many quirks that need to be overwritten when reskinning so the players could easily pick whatever appeals to them as long as it’s an “elf” in the fiction.
Combat is tactical. I was surprised to learn that 4e’s combat would give my experience with B/X combat a run for its money. Getting hit actually feels threatening. Stage hazards add complexity because they can interrupt the effective range of characters’ magic shields and bursts. Certain moves set off interesting little chain reactions if properly set up beforehand. Sometimes, things still do damage when they miss. Huge improvement over 5e’s nick-miss-crit-miss-miss RNG slog.
Neutral
Skill challenges. Not bad, not good. Just ...there. It feels like the designers were trying to emulate other tabletop rpgs that have dice pools/mixed success mechanics but worse. I have trouble coming up with scenarios where a skill challenge would be different enough from or better than just rolling checks as usual.
Not ADHD friendly. This one’s a me problem. I’m finding it difficult to keep up with all the buff and penalty changes every round. We’re using a VTT and status effect icons, but it’s not like a video game where I can select a character to see what they’re afflicted with and how many turns that lasts at a glance.
Samey classes. Maybe it gets better at higher levels (we’re level 3 at the time of writing) but as for now, it feels like the only difference between the martials and casters is that casters need to stay at long range to protect their smaller pool of HP. The magic-users aren’t very magical outside of combat either. 4e invented the ritual casting mechanic that carried into 5e except here, everyone can do it, it just costs magic-users less. M-U spells also have no utility outside of combat unless your players get creative (so far, the group I'm playing with is very much ‘stay in the box, follow the laser pointer’). This avoids casters being inherently better than martials like in 5e but at the cost of uniqueness and non-combat problem solving utility.
Combat is slow. Myself and one of the players are new to 4e so part of the slowness is inexperience. But in general, characters are able to essentially set up video game-like “combos” of 2-3 actions that may have effects that persist in later rounds. Mercifully, this group is good about knowing what they want to do on their turn but that doesn’t seem to do anything to mitigate each encounter taking up more than half of each session. This campaign was supposed to be 4-5 sessions and I fear it may turn into 8-10. If I weren’t trying to stick close enough to the books as a first timer, I might experiment with enemies having 25% less HP and doing 25% more damage to speed things up.
The Bad
No exploration procedures. I haven’t played 3.5e from the GM’s side (or much at all as a player) to get a sense of how exploration is supposed to be ruled. Based on my experiences here and with 5e, it seems WoTC-era D&D has something against compelling dungeon- and wilderness- crawls. Resource management is mostly non-existent excepting item weight and action/surge points. Random encounters are phased out. DMG 1 has a section on random dungeon creation but no mention of how to make dungeons not just feel like a series of rooms. 4e’s default setting, Nentir Vale, is supposed to be a vast frontier where civilization is sparse but dangers are numerous and yet there are no rules supporting that kind of campaign. I could houserule things in, sure, but why buy a rulebook if I have to do the game designers’ job for them?
Wealth treadmill. This is one of the weirdest fucking things in any edition of D&D. Apparently, the design team fell asleep at the wheel at some point and forgot that the party characters’ attack bonuses need to gradually scale in order to be able to actually hit ever-increasing enemy AC. So they patched the issue by having there be a mandatory number of to-hit enhancing magic items the party must have at each level, as well as an amount of money necessary to buy said items. If you’re allergic to the idea of magic-item Wal-Mart as I am, that means you need to either a) place these items in dungeons and hope that your party both goes to that specific dungeon and finds those specific items or b) they anti-diagetically just appear in their inventory upon level up. Partway into the edition, they kind of fixed this with a new system called “inherent bonuses” (it is what it sounds like), however, there’s still an expectation of 2-3 magic items per level, which you need to shower your party in money in order for them to create or buy the items. Commonality of magic items really makes them feel so much less special, in my eyes. Not to mention, like the lack of utility casting I mentioned earlier, magic items are purely for combat enhancement, not fun or flavour.
Combat is everything. Unless your group really likes unprompted roleplay, there’s not much to this system outside of combat. I’ve read through a few official modules, and in them, talking to NPCs is just a means to finding your way into another combat encounter so you can punch the kobolds in the way of your level-mandated magic items. You could talk your way out of things but, besides the GM calling for the occasional Bluff or Stealth check, you aren’t interfacing with the mechanics. I’ve seen D&D as a whole accused of this but I really feel burdened by it in 4e. I’m not even sure what kinds of stories you could tell with 4e that wouldn’t be enhanced by switching rpgs beyond wartime scenario, gladiator tournament, dungeon siege...
Verdict
Like 5e, it’s serviceable and easy enough to learn but uncomplicated where I would like to see more and overcomplicated where I would like to see less. I’m not sure I can stand it for more than a few sessions a year. I'd be more interested had 4e been a FF Tactics style video game or a minifigs tabletop wargame like Age of Sigmar.

Ay fuck it here we go!
While you're at it, take a proper gander at this propaganda...
Hymerark is literally a canonical non-binary deity who is actually also genderfluid. They use genderless terms like deity over "god" or "goddess" and are referred to by both he/him and she/her pronouns throughout the story. They're also the deity of freedom and chaos, but they're known as the deity of second chances. Also they're really hot.
Hod is one of those characters that is relatable for all the like, wrong reasons. She tries so hard to not screw things up, giving her all not for her own sake but for the sake of others who don't appreciate her. She's a bit too by the books because she believes that following orders to the letter can save lives. She's a kind heart, a good person; and she is shown to, you know; despite literally not being human, be very human. It's really cool to see a character like Hod. In Lob Corp she's someone who ends up basically giving up and resorting to drugs to take the pain away. I can't not root for a character who's doing their best and yet is always down on their luck. There's something about that I find endearing, couldn't ever put my finger quite on what though. Also she's really hot.
Phaleg is admittedly a choice for this list on account of the simple fact that she's this very fancy and elegant woman who has spent god knows how long training to be the most powerful person on Earth. (no literally that wording is intentional, she's meant to be "the first woman" so really I suppose only god would know how long provided god is canonical in the PSO2 universe... which like, man don't even get me started on EP4 shenanigans.) She would easily make the list for this alone, as I think really elegant and fancy people who kick ass is just cool. However she genuinely became my favorite for how she acts, sure she's possibly the most powerful person alive; but when she sees potential in someone (like the player) she strives to watch them grow and want to cheer them on to ensure they become the best they can be. She's humble, she's kind; and she challenges the player to a friendly duel and is only mildly disappointed if you lose because she knows you could do better. She believes you can beat her, and she wants to see you succeed. Not only can this woman kick my ass, but she's extremely supportive the whole time; and that my friends, makes her really hot. Yea there's a pattern here, but like... what are you gonna do? Shame me for it? We still have two more characters.
Melia hits a very close to home soft spot for me as someone who was ostracized for being of mixed blood. She continues to strive for what's best for her people even when they treat her poorly and it's very clear she cares a lot about being a good leader to them. She also gets to unwind and relax around the party a bit, the heart to heart in which she opens up about learning to be allowed to laugh at jokes and such really strikes a chord with me as I was raised in a very formal setting and had to learn to be allowed to show my emotions around friends. It's still something I struggle with and seeing a character who's so relatable in so many ways has really given me an appreciation of her. Not to mention and say it with me now, her brother is really hot- wait... I mean sure she's hot too but have you SEEN Kallian? You should. That man can GET IT.
Soul of Cinder is a very different kind of entry here, they're a favorite character for me because of what they symbolize. While you could argue they have no real "character" at all, which is true; they represent something far greater than themself. Sure the boss is a sort of one off thing, but they represent literally every character and by extension every player who has ever linked the fire. The Soul of Cinder isn't cool because of it's own merit, but because it's a representation of everyone, every play style, every build, everyone who struggled and achieved their goal; and it's the final obstacle that you need to overcome to be the next in line. Oh and yea, it's REALLY hot.
post a poll with five favorite characters and let others decide which is their favorite
