the SAG-AFTRA strike has allowed me the space to contently mosey through the backlog of entertainment I've been interested in (cuz lets be honest there is a metric fuck ton of content out there) and I say strike until the corperations fold.

One of these is A Discovery of Witches S3 (I rewatched S1 & 2 as well because well, strike) and while it is one of the more refreshing takes on Vampire/Witch/Demon universe's I'm still really peeved Diana gets pregnant because I feel like it falls into the whole women-can-be-strong-and-powerful-and-have-babies-and-be-nuturing-moms-too shtick that took hold with 2nd wave feminism and yes but also I don't want babies and I would kill for a woman to be like THANK GOD I MARRIED A VAMPIRE NOW I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE PILL/BIRTH CONTROL OR BABIES CUZ THAT SHIT FUCKS YOU UP and not have a surprise baby *cough cough Twilight* cuz women are more than just baby incubators

but also HOW THE FUCK do babies GROW UP if they're part un-dead? Literally the cells don't evolve, that's how Vampire have immortality UNLESS the theory is they're all super-soldiers a la Erskine (although even Marvel has it in canon that Steve Rogers does in fact age at the normal pace) BUT then female vampires would be getting pregnant by mortal men and you never see that happening

so thank you for coming to my ted talk on how in any verse currently standing where vampires are immortal, it makes no sense for there to be a possibility of half-vampire babies

Aziraphale’s secret investigation and overlooked Clues

Remember this frame from Good Omens S02E06? Apparently Aziraphale had been using the empty carton box brought by Jim to store things in. It became a new home to at least two out of three “Lost Quartos” — the supposedly lost Shakespeare plays briefly but hilariously mentioned in the Good Omens book — as well as a very mysterious legal document.

Thought probably half of the Good Omens analysts here, including the ever so wonderful @fuckyeahgoodomens, who managed to find some information about the deceased John Gibson from New Cumnock (1855 - 1905).

Unfortunately the most interesting thing about this early 20th century provincial postmaster was his youngest child James (1894 - 1973), a quite famous stage (West End!) and film actor immortalized on screen in The Master of Ballantrae (1962), Witch Wood (1964) and Kidnapped (1963).

After that particular discovery the fandom-wide search seemingly led nowhere and the topic died a premature death.

And I almost figured it out seven months ago.

“But Yuri, you’re so clever. How can somebody as clever as you be so stupid?”, you probably want to shout across a busy London street at this point. Well, let me tell you. Much like Aziraphale, I'm blindingly intelligent for about thirty seconds a day. I do not get to choose which seconds and they are not consecutive.

Only tonight the stars have aligned in an ineffable way.

For those of you who don’t follow this account, some time ago I’ve realized that John Gibson isn’t the only testator whose estate was being investigated by Aziraphale right before The Whickber Street Traders and Shopkeepers Association monthly meeting.

If you watch S2 finale closely enough, you should notice that Crowley not only stress cleans Aziraphale’s bookshop — he also goes through the books and papers on his desk between the last three angels leaving the bookshop and Maggie and Nina’s intervention. A seemingly permanent arrangement of the props post-shooting, visible in detail both on Radio Times tour and SFX magazine photo shoot, sheds even more light on this detail.

The close-ups published after S2 release are legible enough to refer us to a much more prominent historical figure, Josiah Wedgwood (1730 – 1795) — an English potter, entrepreneur and abolitionist. Founding the Wedgwood company in 1759, he developed improved pottery bodies by systematic experimentation, and was the leader in the industrialisation of the manufacture of European pottery.

Long story short, I transcribed the handwritten pages abandoned on Aziraphale’s desk, found out the source and the full text of what could be identified as Wedgwood’s last will and testament, took a walk to visit his Soho workshop, and proceeded to write a lengthy meta analysis about it.

I was today’s years old when I realized that there’s something else connecting those two dead British men.

The Scottish Post Office Directory of 1903 recorded John Gibson from New Cumnock as a “stationer and china dealer” (above) operating from the shop located in the town’s post office building.

Indeed, a close look at his post office shop window in the Henderson Building (below, bottom left) reveals an artful display of fine china and pottery next to postcards printed by Gibson.

There are multiple ways to connect this surprising link with possible S3 plot points, obviously, but it’s getting late, so let’s just name the two most important ones.

You’ve probably heard of the Holy Grail, maybe from Monty Python or Good Omens S01E03 1941 flashback. Depending on the version of the story, if can be a cup, a chalice, a bowl, or a saucer — but almost always a dish or a vessel connected personally, physically and metaphysically to Jesus (unless you’re partial to Wolfram von Eschenbach’s idea that the Grail was a stone, the sanctuary of the neutral angels who took neither side during Lucifer's rebellion).

A slightly more obscure dish related to the Son of God appears in the sixteenth chapter of the Book of Revelation as a vital part of His Second Coming. The Seven Bowls (or cups, or vials) of God’s Wrath are supposed to be poured out on the wicked and the followers of the Antichrist by seven angels:

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.” So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea.

The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. And I heard the angel in charge of the waters say, “Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was, for you brought these judgments. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. It is what they deserve!” And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!”

The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory.

The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds.

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty.  (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

‘Every witch in the city has already heard about your wife. News travels quickly here, no small thanks to your friend Christopher Marlowe,’ Goody Alsop said, craning her neck to meet his eyes. ‘Sit down, Master Roydon. My old bones no longer bend that way.’

To my surprise, Matthew sat.

for your ask game, garden life! i've been obsessed with this song lately

okay. okay. i just listened to the song for the first time (yeah, i know, don't yell at me) and Oh Boy.

immediately i can tell you it would be angsty, angsty merthur.

i'd write it about young-ish merthur, perhaps s2, through 02x11 (the witch's quickening) when merlin sees the future through the crystal. i wouldn't want it to be a rewrite, but i'd play on that specific scene so that merlin would see more of the future - specifically, arthur's end. at first i was gonna leave it at that, but now that i'm thinking about it - the vision would be vague and i also imagine arthur finding out about it and believing merlin, so the fic would have more future-seeing aspects. the song feels like a conversation in this context, most of it being the period between merlin seeing the future and arthur finding out.

i imagine arthur as more...dark in this, struggling. all the responsibilities and growing pains and realisations that come with it. i'd incorporate the trope of arthur learning personal closeness through merlin, gentleness, kindness.

and, so, merlin would be overcome with the idea of arthur dying young, he'd grow somewhat distant. they wouldn't be in an established relationship or anything that early on, but they'd certainly thread the line between friends and something more. merlin would stay with arthur longer than necessary during nighttime, a kind of comfort and presence. there would've been one time they almost kissed but got interrupted, not long before the discovery of the crystal. so that would be the overall vibe of those two going into it. arthur being arthur would notice merlin being weird, poking and prodding until merlin told him vague lies. arthur wouldn't believe him, of course. most of the scenes, especially the early ones, would be set during nighttime, merlin taking the metaphorical role of a nightlight. this is when arthur would be most honest and open. they'd talk in whispers and arthur would often reach out to play with merlin's fingers.

eventually, arthur would coax it out of merlin. he'd be hesitant to believe it, but merlin would have done his research, armed with a way to see more of the future. arthur would be stubbornly curious, feigning disinterest, saying he'll go with merlin only so he doesn't get himself killed. i'm not too sure about the details of the 'quest' or what exactly the visions would entail, but both merlin and arthur would see it. again, not too much would be given away, only that arthur would be destined to die young and merlin would wait and wait and wait aka "you left a dent inside my soul / (what comes after me? we can't stay forever)".

after that, they'd go through the motions of what it all really means, how much of it can be changed, and how much of each other they're willing to lose, knowing the likely end. one particular scene in my mind was arthur with his head in merlin's lap saying "what comes after me?" once for camelot, and once, quieter, for them two.

you might be thinking - magic?? i'm not sure if a magic reveal would be included. arthur might know already, merlin might lie his ass off, i don't know. although, to make it a little less angsty, i think it would have to be an already known thing.

it's extremely funny to me seeing posts that insinuate Eda or her family should have realized they are descendants of Caleb and Evelyn once they learned Evelyn's name post-Thanks to Them, or that it doesn't make sense that Dana said in the post-hoot that they never learn about that connection.

Like, aside from not knowing how common it is for witches in the B.I. to keep familial records the way humans do, the other straight forward reason (to me at least) why Eda and co. wouldn't ever learn Evelyn was their ancestor is because Evelyn probably changed her name after Philip killed Caleb. Regardless of her own grief and rage, she was pregnant and had to protect herself and her child, so the safest course of action would have been to go into hiding for a while at the very least, especially since she decided to hide the portal door. Which, probably wasn't even intended to noble act to protect the B.I. — it was more likely out of spite and rage towards Philip. The one thing she could do was make sure he never got to see his home again, not after he took hers away.

And even if she did kept her name, whose to say "Evelyn" wasn't a common witch name in that era? While the naming convention is intentionally obvious for us as the audience, the characters in-universe wouldn't really have a reason to jump to the conclusion that Evelyn was a Clawthorne based only on her name and her having had a bird palisman (ily Flapjack 😭). It would have been equivalent to someone telling me, a white American with mixed Celtic and Germanic ancestry, a story about someone named "Sean" or "Mary", and me assuming I'm a descent because I vaguely know I have ancestors from those parts of the world.

And in the present, Belos never gave any indication that he targeted Eda for any reason other than her being a nuisance on the isles before he knew she had THEE portal door. And even after that discovery, he seemed totally unaware that Eda was a descent of Evelyn and Caleb (though i do think that could have been a great realization or reveal in S2 or S3). But I don't think Philip/Belos ever considered Evelyn important/special enough to track down over the first several decades he was in the B.I. anyway, being that he would have just lumped her in the "witches" category and was planning mass genocide from day one. I can definitely see him trying to track her down at first, and then quickly changing course to focus on his "true goal". Depending on the brand of Puritanism he followed, he would have very easily convinced himself it was too self indulgent to fulfill his own selfish desire to kill one witch when there was an entire realm of demons and witches that needed to be destroyed "for the good of humanity".

It's been announced that the streamer formerly known as HBO Max is partnering up with AMC+ for a limited time digital pop-up.

From Sept. 1st through Oct. 31st, a slew of AMC/AMC+ series are going to Max. The titles are:

Originally on Australia's Stan, followed by BBC One, before landing on Max, the series was a success in its countries of origins, but less successful on Max. Therefore, Max did not pick up the streaming rights for series 2.

That's okay- we don't need your lousy service anyway! We'll go to Peacock where all the other British imports goes to be unwatched!

What is series two all about? Just like series one we are on the quest to uncover the truth of our favourite amnesiac Elliot's (Dornan) past, this time in Ireland. He is once again joined in this endeavor by constable Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald) and the two are dragged into a longstanding family feud.

While you have to wait an undetermined amount of time to see Dornan in series two of THE TOURIST, you can currently watch him and Gal Gadot in Netflix's HEART OF STONE

and September 9th, you can see him in another Sir Kenneth Branagh production - A HAUNTING IN VENICE , which reunites him with his BELFAST son, Jude Hill.
