A/N: what's up gamers, I decided that posting this on AO3 wasn't enough and I wanted to try to cross post over here as well, I am still a newbie at these things as I've always been a lurker and not someone whose actually posted content like this before so please let me know if the format is janky and stuff but other than that I hope you enjoy what has become my hyperfixation as of late, feedback is very much appreciated!! :3

“This is getting ridiculous..” 

He grumbled as he sat on the bench, leg crossed over one and other as he impatiently tapped on the railing as he looked around at those passing by hoping any of them could be Reheal. 

The angel was running fifteen minutes late, although it had only been ten minutes since he himself had arrived at the park. 

“You’d think that from someone so divine they could at least be here on time… I have better things to do, or at least tormenting Ace would be better than this heh.” 

He slightly smirked at the thought of further making his descendant's life more difficult than it already was. The kid was a good worker, he will admit but he didn’t need to know that or else he would grow an ego from it, and he really didn’t need that around the office. He could always put him to work during the graveyard shift again, oh the look on his face afterwards, he actually took a picture of it framing it somewhere around his office, the look of terror paired with the eyebags underneath the young man’s eye always gave him a good chuckle. 

But before he could think of any newer ways to torment the young blonde a sudden flash of what seemed to be divine light went off next to him blinding him momentarily.

“Gah! You could always warn a guy first, you know!” 

“Ah, apologies I forget about your light sensitivity-“ 

“for someone so divine as yourself, you sure have a knack for being late, frankly it’s getting annoying.” 

He crossed his arms as he scoffed a bit as he let his eye recover from the blinding light.

“Let’s get this show on the road, what are you going to accuse me of now? Hm?”

He looks at whatever form Reheal seems to have taken, it seems this time it would be that of a daycare worker if the apron decorated with finger hand paintings and stickers meant anything, not that they had the name of the place stitched on it either, it seems that they went for a female vessel this time, and a cute one at that with her sleek black hair pulled up in a half updo and her red framed glasses. 

“For starters, I would like to apologize for my tardiness, things have gotten quite… hectic and we seem to have ourselves a situation, I was hoping you would know something about it?” 

“A situation you say? Now what may this situation be?” 

“Well…”

They look around as if to be cautious that a passerby may hear their conversation. 

“Recently a group of our cherubs were sent on their daily mission to try to save a soul for the lord.”

“Uh huh.”

“But something went wrong, there was… a hellish intervention.” 

“Oh?” 

“It appears that some imps without a demonic owner had found their way up here, causing not only chaos and destruction on their wake but also appearing in front of humans-“

They pause a bit as they hesitate to say the next part, lowering their head in shame as they rub their forehead in embarrassment. 

“They meddled with the cherub's mission to the point where they caused the death of a man who was a candidate to eternal paradise.” 

Oh.

Malphas let out a low whistle as he placed his arms behind his head and looked up to the sky in the same surprised way.

“Wow… just… wow- Hold on, how am I to blame for this?” he asked, offended that the angel would think he would do not only something so careless but lazy as well.

Reheal looked at him with the same patient look in their eyes although this time he could see that they looked more tired but that could also be because of the avatar they chose.

“If i’m not mistaken, you are President of Hell?”

He scoffed as his one good eye stared back at Raheal’s bug eye look.

“Nothing more of a title really, the most I did was help rule some rings- if anything the title that fits the most is being “architect” of hell. Besides, you know I don’t spend any time down there- I mean if anything this is more like my jurisdiction!” 

He spread his arms looking around the park before leaning against the bench once again as he looked nonchalantly at the angel.

“Reheal, what is it that you’re exactly asking for?” 

The angel once again blankly staring at him speaks in their soft tone as always, but he could pick up a hint of exhaustion in their tone.

“I need eyes from the inside, something… feels wrong and everything is out of balance, without balance our divine plan is getting further and further delayed, and I'm not sure what but the high seraphim is hiding something.”

“Wow, questioning the high seraphim? I didn’t think you had it in you angel, if you wanted to fall you should have let me know.” he jests, the angel could only grit their teeth slightly as they clench their fists placed on their lap, only Malphas was capable of getting such a reaction out of them.

“It’s not conspiring! At least not when it’s about finding out what the heck is happening that imps and other hellborns are suddenly coming up here causing havoc.” 

He raises his hands amused seeing the angel finally have some emotion other than just a polite smile on their face, or well on their human avatar.

“Alright, but I figured you have angels who are usually in charge of investigating such things? I mean does it have to be me?” he protests not liking whatever it is that the angel was going to request from him.

The angel looks away momentarily, preferring to stare at the ducks wandering in front of them as they waddle away from the trail in a straight line.

“That was my first thought as well, but if the high Seraphim is hiding something whose to say they aren’t part of it as well? It’s something I need to figure alone.” 

He smirked at the angel's response, he knew the angel had always followed the divine law to a T but after a millennium of knowing them it was always nice to find new things about them.

“Careful with what you say Angel, it was that same thinking that got Lucifer expelled, well you barely came to existence when that all went down, huh?”  

The angel turned around as it craned its neck to look up at Malphas, their stare even more intense than before still showing the same soft smile on their face.

“You don't think I know that? It terrifies me knowing that I suspect that the high seraphim is hiding something, but it can’t be a coincidence with what happened recently- I can’t just let it go until I know the full story.” 

“What’s in it for me?” 

“What? What’s in it for you?” 

“Well I’m obviously not going to do this for free you know! I’m going to be losing a pretty dime with however long it’s going take me-“

“Can’t you ever do something for free? Must everything be a business opportunity for you?”

Malphas looked at the angel with a smug “You already know” look.  

Taking a deep breath Reheal decided that it was better to compromise with the crow demon than argue any longer, no matter how many decades in human years have passed Malphas never seemed to have changed, not even his appearance though they knew that the crow demon would always keep up with whatever the trending style was in, and at the moment he seemed to following it if his shag like hairstyle and floral shirt that was almost indecently unbuttoned was an indicator, no matter what he was still the same o’l Malphas as always.

“Fine, I will stop bothering you…. For five years?” 

“Five? Oh come on, that’s nothing to beings like us!”

“Alright, ten years?” 

“Make it twenty.” 

“Ten.” 

“Twenty.”

“Ten.”

“Nineteen?” 

“Twelve.” 

“fifteen?” 

“Fifteen.” 

“Well, you got yourself a deal!” 

Standing and stretching himself letting out a loud and dramatic yawn as he looked at the angel with a mischievous grin. 

“I guess I better get going huh?” 

“The sooner the better I say, I must get going as well, they will grow suspicious of my absence.” 

“Before you leave do you mind givi- Gah!” 

Quickly covering his eye as once again the angel leaves in a flash of divine light leaving its human avatar in confusion on how she found herself in the middle of the park. 

She looked around confused as to how she found herself in the middle of the park when she was supposed to be back at the daycare with the kids, but her thoughts were interrupted as the man standing in front of her spoke in a raspy voice.

“Oh my goodness! How did I get here?! Oh my god, the kids?! Sir, could you please-” 

“Catch ya later toots.” 

He walked away leaving the daycare worker not only extremely confused on who the random one-eyed man was but stranded as well.

Now Danny didn’t mean to make a Bootube channel. He’d meant to send that sleep deprived ramble to Tucker, but he had clicked on the wrong app and yeah. Apparently people enjoy his space rambles- or it could have been the ghost blob-cats that had decided to flop onto him. (Honestly he wasn’t surprised they would start to mimic the shapes of things in their surroundings)

Tucker? Found it hilarious, as did Sam and Val and… um, okay this has become their shared channel now, nice. Though there are some strange comments on some of the videos. Really, what do they mean green sky and crazy tech???

The problem with big fandoms (using "problem" in a very loose sense here) is that it's really hard to stumble across the weird niche undertagged stuff when its being buried in five million coffee shop/royalty/high school/soulmate aus. If there are 150 works in the tag total you can look through very quickly and find anything that appeals to you. When there are over a million it is much harder to do that.

Mojo's comments: Oh, this was an interesting crossover. POV focus is kind of on everyone (so if you aren't passingly familiar with both MDZS and TGCF, you'll probably be lost), as Jiang Yanli is found as a teeny new ghost flame and nurtured by her new friends into a full Calamity. The premise is so unique, I love it: a ghost who stayed because of love, rather than resentment.

This is the first work of the Lament for the Fallen series. It is a crossover between Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings and Shadowhunter Chronicles. The Shadowhunter Chronicles were revised and rewritten. I tried to make as small changes as was possible to the a tual plot of the books and characters, yet I added much worldbuilding and cultural background. I think it is safe to say, it is Alternate Universe - Canon divergence. I think you can treat it as an alternative world, much alike Thule.

This particular story follows two plot lines. The first one tell the tale of Maglor and his travel to the sea of Ringil. The other one follows the story of Arlette Starkweather and María Francisca Rosales-Cartageno, at that time 17-year olds Academy students, who were tasked to manage the inventory check of East European Conclave during the summer of 2012, after Clave went into exile. It occured to me, such an operation would have profound consequences regarding logistics and stupplies...

AO3 is Removing 'All Media Types' without Public Input or Announcement. What Can We Do?

What's Happening?

For those who don't yet know: AO3 and the Tag Wranglers have begun to slowly remove the 'All Media Types' tag for older fandoms. Aka, removing the 'umbrella' tag for many franchises, and forcing franchises to be split by media, or to be shoved under one umbrella that does not accurately reflect the types of fics or source medias they come from. This has been slowly occurring with no official announcement, under the pretense that things will be 'easier' to manage, or that some users claimed that the 'All Media Types' tag was confusing. This has begun in secrecy, without genuine input from the userbase, and without any public announcement. (As of 9/5/2024 9:30 AM PST) Many of us are pretty confident in AO3 staff's decisions, but the fact that this decision is not only incredibly impactful, but made without public input, has deeply violated the condition of the site as an archive... an archive of OUR own.

Current seen issues and active risks:

Removal of 'All Media Types' automatically makes fics from different sources in the same franchise a 'crossover', forcing users to consider non-crossover fics 'crossovers'. So, any fanfic that spans or implements elements from multiple pieces of media in a franchise are now considered a 'crossover', despite being from the same franchise and not a crossover.

Removal of 'All Media Types' forces users to manually search for the fics and ships they want one by one through each fandom tag in a related franchise. (Imagine looking through all the separate DC or MARVEL movies one by one).

The 'include crossovers' and 'exclude crossovers' filters are now useless, and removing genuine crossovers (crossovers between franchises) must be done manually through the filter system, which can take upwards of half an hour, if not longer, with the amount of one-off genuine crossovers that exist.

Slightly smaller franchises are being shoved under the umbrella of a single, super popular fandom. (See, Sherlock Holmes. All Sherlock Holmes media has been relegated to the tag 'Sherlock TV', which confuses users, as the tag now includes not only BBC Sherlock, which is the umbrella tag, but any works based off of Arthur Conan Doyle's original works, the 2009 Sherlock Holmes films, and the 16+ Sherlock Holmes adaptations and international TV shows... none of which are BBC Sherlock.)

Anime and manga fandoms (especially smaller ones) are being automatically split by media type, without regard to the fact that many anime and manga adaptations are very similar, and/or authors tend to often implement elements from both anime and manga.

As far as we are aware, no one is going to be correcting any improper sorting resulting from this.

Accounts that are no longer active/accessible, memorial accounts, and orphaned fics and no longer be corrected by their original authors and are at risk of being misplaced into incorrect fandom tags. Unfortunately, no one can fix this but the tag wranglers, who were supposedly removing 'All Media Types' in the first place to prevent MORE work. Counter intuitive, isn't it?

Already, fandoms are being improperly split, others being improperly merged, and still more being far more confusingly sorted. This deeply damages AO3's integrity as an ARCHIVE.

What Can I Do?

As soon as it's back up again, make sure to stop by the Contact Support page! There, you're able to let them know exactly how you feel about this, and what fandoms your fear will be impacted by these changes. Many already have been.

In the meantime, make sure to contact AO3 on Twitter (or X): ao3org (AO3's general twitter page), ao3_wranglers (AO3's tag wrangler page), and OTW_news (the parent host of AO3).

I feel like the potential of different methods of treatment of Jason’s Lazarus Pit side effects in DPxDC fics is often underutilized.

Like, yeah, the crossover brings in more ghostly stuff that could help, but it’s contamination on his literal mind/soul (definitely soul in a DPxDC context, idk about in DC canon) brought on by an unnatural resurrection. At least to me, that feels like it should be significant.

Having Danny just reach in and pull it out or Frostbite treat it in a basic procedure feels almost… cheap?

Like, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it being easy. Stories don’t need to go deeply into the soul healing process; if it’s not meant to be major plot point, it can absolutely be just a quick thing! I’m not trying to insult those stories at all!!

But I feel like there’s a lot of room for more complex or esoteric stuff in there to be explored!

Some ideas for such unique condition things under the readmore:

What if his “revenant” thing some fics use comes into play and the only way to remove it is to fully achieve his revenge? And if that’s the case, what if someone/something else kills the target of the revenge without his influence? Yeah, the person is dead now, he’s technically avenged, but he wasn’t the one to get the revenge. So does it still go away, or is he stuck with it? If he still has it, is it just permanent now or can he just find some other revenge method (ruining their legacy or etc) to break it?

Or oppositely, what if he literally can’t achieve that revenge or his body will die again, its mission complete. Thus, his only way to survive and remove the side effects is to smother all those vengeful urges until they fall silent. Which could make that “someone else kills the target unrelated to him” thing from the previous idea now the good ending - basically guaranteeing his survival since he can’t achieve the vengeance as easily now and can move on. Or maybe it’d be even worse as it forces him to move on regardless, dying randomly when the target of his revenge meets their comeuppance.

What if cycling out the corrupted ectoplasm is a long-term process of meditation (and/or emotional control) - something that takes up significant space in his life and forces him to plan/work around until it’s complete (reduced work hours, avoiding certain situations that might cloud his thoughts, etc)

What if he needs to obtain some sorts of special items/materials (either connected to his own life or more general ghost stuff) for a cleansing ritual, forcing him to go on some sort of quest(s) before he can perform it and recover

What if the tainted spots on his soul can’t be fixed, only excised, leaving other types of consequences for his mind/soul (some that will gradually disappear as the “incisions” heal, others that persist in the scars left behind)

What if the healing process requires him to go over his memories and smooth out the jagged emotional edges left by the Pit, and he isn’t experienced enough with ghostly matters to do on his own, so it forces him to get help from another ghost (and thus bare all his secrets to them)

What if the Pit Rage has to be fully pulled to the front - leaving him completely consumed by its control - before it can be literally fought back and suppressed

What if it can be healed only by taking pieces of healthy ghosts to patch him up - which’d require a lot of smaller ghosts (e.g. blob ghosts) or could potentially only need a couple if he’s willing to harm more intelligent ghosts for it (which Jason likely wouldn’t do, but he’s hardly the only person who’s been revived by the Pits…)

You COULD, in fact, pick a direction and just... keep going. Forever. For always. Without end or limits. The Zone is not just "really, REALLY big and we need a word your mind could comprehend." Not "as big as a galaxy or the known universe". It is? On a scale that even GODS can not comprehend.

The place GODS go to die. A place they are BORN from. The great primordial soup where universe end and begin anew. Where the cracks are glued backed together, and the souls of the living flow in and out. Endless scraps of fabric, realities, atop a churning sea of green. Keeping everything even.

After all... you can't CREATE a soul. They got to come from SOMEWHERE. Where do you THINK they arrive from? When populations grow? Thin air‽

But... ah~, there in lays the rub, doesn't it? Would knowing the Zone? Knowing SOME of it's mysteries and machinations (for NO ONE, not even all the Ancients COMBINED, can ever claim to understand even a fraction of them all.) mean that Danny??? Was powerful in a Cultivation reality?

He's certainly a powerful GHOST.

But?? They FIGHT ghosts all the time. Wouldn't he be WEAKER and more in danger? As they try to hell the restless spirit move on? Not knowing he is balanced between life and death? They could very well kill him.

Which, given the moral standards of the Realm? Would NOT be viewed as a bad thing.

But! On the OTHER hand?

He is a ZONE ghost. Not a simple spirit. Far beyond what they are used to dealing with. Arguably? ASCENDANT. From a higher plane of existence. A lower one. Several steps to the side. He is, for all intents and purposes, shrimp colors to the human eye. The color blue to a blind man. An orb to the two dimensional.

CAN he even interact with the world's cultivation systems? Does it recognize him as a god? A dead man? Some sort of ascendant dead god?

Something... Not Right™

Yet still utterly natural? Clearly not meant to be here. Yet... not wicked. Granted, not, perhaps, benevolent. But...

Because what IS he? Is he a boy? A man? A corpse? Immortal, perhaps? Is this creature a demon? The resentful dead? They DONT KNOW! It... probably scares a lot of them. Makes some of them think he is a test. Probably makes OTHERS wanna fight (friend? Hey! New friend!).

And like? Why would Danny even BE there? He's already immortal. The swords are pretty cool... but he has Fenton tech.

Honestly I'd really like to see a mxtx3 story where wwx and xl work with Sqq to reveal sqq's true backstory and the system to lbh.

I mean, think about it!! One of the biggest problems with scum villain is how even though they get together, unlike the other couples bingqiu is still left with all these huge secrets that massively affect them both. Lbh is left believing he married his mercurial abuser, that his suffering passed some sort of indefinable test that proved him worthy of basic rights. That Sqq threw him in the abyss of his own volition. That Sqq was really sacrificing his life and not faking his death with intent to survive.

Sqq is left knowing all these things but unable to act on them, unable to tell his husband about his own past, unable to explain his actions, never able to fully let his guard down because he's supposed to be shen qingqiu. He can't even tell his own husband his original name!! If he could have, he would have, even if only in the extras!

But can you imagine???

A meeting of bingqiu, wangxian, Hualian, for whatever reason, and as the three (actual) protagonists chat and gossip and get to know each other, as they talk, Sqq is at ease enough to slip up and finds out he can talk about the system to anyone from outside pidw! Not just sqh!! Maybe not completely, but he can mention some, and the other two, concerned for their new friend, are clever enough to tease the rest out. They're horrified. Sqq is resigned but freshly hopeful.

And so begins Mission: Save Sqq's Marriage!

(Sqq would very much like to contend the title but he is out voted.)

I'd just love to see the three of them (with unquestioning aid from their husbands) get up to hijinks and face existential horrors on a quest to help bingqiu get the closure they need. And moshang too, I guess XD.

It'd also be very, very funny to have them all in the middle of the latest traumatic and/or mortifying scene look around at the other two like 'hey, aren't you supposed to be freaking out now? This is normally the part people start screaming' and the other two are like 'I mean I guess?? We've got things to do though' like kings of unflappable repression right there.

Like there's a bunch of crossovers but none really scratch that itch, you know? The main characters of all 3 mxtx?? There's so much potential for Truly Unhinged Shenanigans!! Wangxian visiting pidws wife plot filled world and disappearing into the wilderness for a full week, coming back with every single piece of clothing they brought ruined. Hualian go visit mdzs and and no one believes xl is a diety and hc chomping at the bit to kill them for the injustice. Bingqiu going to tgcf and lbh getting mistaken for a calamity, or Sqq falling into the one wife plot kidnapping or something intended for a diety.

But seriously imagine Sqq complaining about something and wwx and xl immediately going 'that's not right! You deserve better!!' and Sqq is like 'no it's fine I'm used to it' and the other two slam their fists on the table like 'no!!! If [husband] was forced to keep that kind of secret I'd hate it!! You two deserve to be properly happy!! Let us help! We can fix this!' and start working with zeal and vigor while Sqq trails along embarrassed half heartedly muttering 'it's not that bad >:/'.

Xl wwx and Sqq bestie team up! Meeting moshang! Wwx info dumping about his monster index categorisation to an enthralled Sqq! Xl and Sqq bemoaning etiquette while wwx laughs at them! Xl and wwx having intense discussions about morality and righteousness! All three of them laughing at how oblivious they were about their husbands, each trying to one the other two for Dumb Moments They Should Have Realised (Sqq wins by horrifying the other two)!
