I saw the @gortash-week challenge for Halloween a few days ago, and I just could not withstand the temptation. Also tagging @dolfijn5, because they enjoy depressed Gortash a lot.

Okay so I seen aus where dream and nightmare swapped roles (dreamswap/swapdream) and a au where ink and error swapped roles (pale and template) but has anyone done a au where the guardians swapped jobs with ink and error? where instead of being the guardians of the tree of feelings the brothers jobs was to be the destroyer and creator nightmare swapping job with error and dream swapping job with ink instead of the apple incident split the brothers apart it was the death of nim and they differing views on how to do they jobs since they both have different opinions how to do they jobs

monkeyman was so crazy good, a truly heartbreaking hit me like a gut punch diaspora film. i felt like dev patel climbed inside my stupid diasporic cringe heart and ripped out all my love and fear and hate and joy for india and indianness and crafted it into a rough beautiful messy intense bloody film. it was NOT the joyful revenge narrative that everybody is seeing for me - it was scary, honestly. it was a depiction of the cycles of violence continuing and a warning against the renegade and it felt really rooted in the struggle of what it means to be indian in a way i think is SO informed by dev patel’s place as a diaspora kid. what do we reject? what do we embrace? how do we escape? how do we find something to be proud of amidst the ugliness? how can we weaponize that? how can we, as neither/both, transform?

i’d love for The End from frontiers to be representative of the heat death of the universe. just this huge inevitable future of perfect stillness, where the expanding universe has driven atoms too far apart for collision and transfer of kinetic energy to occur anymore. the interval between collision events stretches into eternity until time functionally stops, every constituent of matter suspended infinitely apart. an endless grid of atoms spaced evenly, forever, a cosmic death as a result of chaos deteriorating into order.

in direct thematic contrast, the chaos emeralds and super sonic could conversely be both source and catalyst for the generation of new energy, despite being definitionally impossible per basic universal law. energy cannot be created or destroyed - but sonic’s never been one to fuss about rules, and “chaos” is literally in the name. The End boasted about how it would subjugate life through order, through stillness, and sonic speared through it, a literal avatar of motion, the ultimate embodiment of life.

and then - for maximum funky spice - taking a step back, observing that the black arms are a species that survive by directly feeding off of the chaos energy of living organisms, and considering them a colonial organism version of The End. different extraterrestrial entities participating in the same consumption of chaos energy, sucking the life out of their surroundings until everything has ground to a permanent halt.

we know shadow is at least somewhat affected by his black arms ancestry, as he can access some of the abilities specific to the species. theoretically, he might also have some of the same needs as well - a case where his resilience to lack of food or sleep is a direct result of unconsciously siphoning the life and chaos energy from his surroundings. the cruel irony of being created to save somebody, only to eventually learn that you were accelerating her death through sheer proximity … his power limiters serving to protect not just him, but also others.
