The left SUCKS at recruiting people. And so many of you are part of the problem.
The talk about centrists and moderates being the literal devil I see constantly in online leftist spaces is one great example of the left's failure. Yes, it sucks when the people don't see how horrible the right is. But centrists are some of the most open people to discussion- and some already lean left!!
You can't demonize moderates to such an extent that you close yourself off to them and then wonder why you're losing swing states.
Centrists aren't even always people with all the privileges- you will find plenty of people who are part of marginalized groups who are concerned about politicians on all sides.
You can be a smol radical leftist bean all you want who only talks to other smol socialist and communist beans, but you're never going to make the difference you want to in the world that way. It's the cold, hard truth. It doesn't mean you have to engage in discourse with everyone- some people have no real hope of changing and are emotionally draining- just more than your bubble.
I am tired of the left eating itself alive and deranged people like Trump winning.

this cannot be said enough: even if you voted for trump in both 2016 & 2020, but you're voting for Harris/Walz this year, YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME HERE. we need all the help we can get. if you've voted Republican for MULTIPLE decades but you plan on voting for Harris/Walz this year, YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME HERE.
centrists, moderates, libertarians, liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, even if you consider yourself far left, no matter how you politically identify but plan to make sure trump doesn't win: YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME HERE.
PLEASE DON'T BE AN ERNST THÄLMANN. DON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT PROJECT 2025/AGENDA 47. you're ALL welcome here if you want to fight for our democracy. check your voter registration status often (as many times as possible) & vote early if you can. talk to friends, make a day of it. LET'S DO THIS!!

Matt Yglesias seems to think the only thing for the Democrats to do is to lurch as far to the right as possible and throw trans people under the bus, but I think this is stupid; MAGA candidates not named Trump ran behind their peers, plenty of Democratic policies passed in the form of ballot initiatives, and many Dem candidates outran Harris by at least a little bit. AFAICT the election was genuinely a backlash against incumbency and not a repudiation of Democratic policy positions generally.
Which sucks! But it also implies you shouldn’t screw over members of your core coalition to try to seize ground already firmly occupied by reactionaries. People with reactionary politics will vote for the brand name version, and you run the risk of alienating people who up til now voted for you. The problems liberals have relate predominantly to messaging in a fragmented media environment and the uniquely troubled circumstances of 2024 than they do to an electorate disgusted by trans women in sports or pandering to people who use the phrase “toxic masculinity.”

was thinking why would the official stateofisrael instagram try to instigate a fight with gigi hadid. like thats just embarrassing to do as a so called ‘state’. and then realized they’re really threatened by any humanization of palestinian people. no matter how mild. palestinians being seen as people is a threat to them. people recognizing that being pro palestine ≠ antisemitism is a threat to them. and why one of the main requests palestinians are making is for people to just see them and Talk about and bring awareness to what’s happening to them. that that Really makes a difference in this. and israel trying to beef with a fashion model for making such a mild statement tells me how infallible they aren’t

The fact that Kier Starmer is on track to get fewer votes than Jeremy Corbyn is both infuriating and hilarious to me (in a laugh so I don't cry kind of way).
That Starmer is being held up as the great, dynamic politician who "saved" Labour through centrist politics and catering to the right while Corbyn was derided as a kook who cost Labour elections for a generation really gets my goat.
Starmer just happened to be standing by as Reform and the Conservatives stab each other to death while Corbyn was dealing with a Reform Brexit party which didn't run against Conservatives and the right and far-right were merged to one.
36% of the vote isn't as impressive and doesn't fit the "historic landslide" narrative.
But, that isn't my country so.

“The great enemy of justice are those moderates who feign outrage at societal injustice, but whose outrage conveniently disappears when real change threatens their status. These moderates are more comfortable leaving unchallenged the assumed moral authority of certain institutions, traditions and practices that are the purveyors of injustice rather than confronting their own role in maintaining these institutions. The hard truth is that the comfort of the status quo is always preferable to pursuing the demands of justice.”
—MLKjr
Despite what moderates (centrists, neoliberals, etc.)—who are more devoted to order than justice—might be saying, there should be no doubt that Martin Luther King, Jr. would be on the side of the student protesters who are standing up for Palestine 🇵🇸

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot since the debate is the fact that we are no longer having to choose a lesser of two evils. We now have a strong, vibrant, empathetic, and intelligent choice who will do her absolute best for us. The only way to have a president who you agree with 100% is to become president yourself. Her plan for the economy has been shown by economic experts to be far better for us than Trump’s economy. This was fact checked to be true. She is the candidate proven to support LGBTQ rights all her life. She is the candidate proven to support racial equality, she’s been fighting for it since she was a child. She is the candidate who grew up as a regular person. She is the candidate who cares about both Palestinians and Israelites (the citizens, not the corrupt government). She is the candidate who will push for a ceasefire. Let’s remember that she isn’t president right now. She doesn’t have any power unless there’s a tie to break in the Senate.
I truly believe that if we don’t see a real positive change in this country under Harris it will be because of Congress and Supreme Court pushback. And that is the worst case scenario with a Harris presidency. Nothing changes. What’s the worst case if Trump wins? A project 2025 dystopia. Best case? Increased racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, police brutality etc. The president serves as a role model beyond just their political power. If the commander in chief in a country says it’s okay to hate a certain group of people, the country is going to lay into that.
