flipnote / early 00s imitation attacks have to be the most fun ones ive done so far tbh. i learned to draw on a tiny 320px canvas on my dsi as a kid and this shit is just natural to me (and really fun)
#burrow.html#eyestrain tw#just in case#i dont feel like posting these on my art blog . i have such a large backlog rn lol#Colouring in the flipnoteystyle limit is the best part#i never used flipnote 3d but the og only had two colours at a time#a black/white base layer#and then two other layers that could either be red blue or black#so you had to get pretty creative

roughing out some concept sketches for more bill fashion designs
#bill cipher#gravity falls#fashion design#??? sort of???#the bottom middle ones are most definitely my favs. in part bc theyll actually be possible to make jfkdlsa#top left is also my fav but needs work#bottom right i hate but felt like doing a sibling for the original eyeball design. i might mess with it more or just scrap it#top right is the loosest obviously and doesnt really have an idea beyond 'can i make a wireframe and glue it to someones shoulders'#the black and white one needs a bunch of work but ive got a set theme in mind for that one so i miiiiight stick with it#and the triangles one is just bc i wanna make a triangle headpiece based off this googly eye mask i found#bottom left is meh. just an excuse to mess with that kind of gauzy layered fabric and see if i could make it pyramidesque#im having fun though!!!#ive got like 4 other concepts in mind that i need to figure out but havent got any sketches down for them yet#but for now: back to my regularly scheduled effigy work. just had to extract these from my brain real quick.#fluffle art

If I may, how do you typically approach choosing colors in your art? It always has just a lovely feel to it, so I was a bit curious; don't feel pressured to answer ofc :]
I’ve been using a lot of gradient maps lately, they work by switching the greys in your piece with a corresponding colour according to its value. Basically, I colour in black and white, grab a gradient map, and then I adjust the colours by hand until I’m happy with it. This isn’t the only kind of colouring I do, but it works great if you’re in a rush or you’re struggling to find a good starting point for your colours. I’ve been operating under a time crunch for these Sketchbook Week drawings and the Plenism promo stuff I made, so for all except one I used gradient maps. I’m actually in a bit of a funk with my colours right now soooo I’ll come back and do a proper colouring tutorial for my style once I’m happier with how my non gradient mapped colours are looking !
#after sketchbook weeks over I wanna sit and do some colour studies to find palettes I’m more happy with#even these gradient map ones I’m not thrilled with#they’re fine! but I could do better#in terms of other tricks I use I’ll often adjust the hues and saturations if the whole piece to give things more unity if I’m struggling#and/or add a new layer on top of everything and fill it with one base colour#and play around with different layer settings and opacities on top#I’ve found a luminosity layer on a low 5-10% setting is quite nice#basicslly I fuck around and find out#and if I’m in a rush I use a gradient map#they’re not neccesarily a quick fix! if you’re like me you’ll still want to do some tweaking after it’s been applied#and you need to pay attention to your values when you’re colouring in black and white#but that’s another good thing about gradient maps - they force you to focus on value over hue which is an important skill to build#so yeah I’ll come back to this and make an actual colouring tutorial once I feel like I have actual good advice to give#cause rn I’m just very meh in my colouring and I don’t think I have anything very helpful to add#need to find some tutorials myself first !#ty for the ask!#ask#art#my art#bpcol-reblogs#textpost#blethering#for this piece the adjustments were minimal in comparison to what I usually do btw#because I was rushinggggg lol#I did more for my Plenism posters n such#but I can’t really show good comparisons because I. didn’t save them like that#I usually smush all my layers together when I’m drawing sooo yeah makes it hard to go back my bad whoops#but I saved as I was going whilst drawing this so I could provide examples yipee!#if I’d been smarter and remembered more I could’ve had more process screenshots butttt oh well lmao

I have no business trying to draw at the moment so here is my current WIP. I've really enjoyed putting together my vision of a "Hive Disciple"...
This is Lûstra, Traitor Prince. Castigated son of La'zaar, punished beyond all reckoning and reduced to a moribund, wormless husk. In his blessed renewal he guards the Pyramid that has become the Leprosarium's "Grave of Shapes".
#Only just started colouring him in...#He'll be less plain after I get through that...#Wrote for a while in my Notes a few days ago. Decided to draw him.#blackwax art#This is a draft from last night. Maybe I will continue this piece today? I can see better than yesterday.#I am unsure how to implement the colouring yet. I have a nice shade of black picked out but I don't know how to add it.#I usually start colouring by making everything one colour and then making clipping layers above it.#I chose white as a base layer because pallour is a standard of La'zaar's Hive.#OC: Lûstra

“Gym Leader Cheren has been spotted exiting Boutique Couture at the Kalos region! Is he trying to level up his fashion style?!”
“Huh? The league just wanted me to get a new outfit for a photoshoot.”
Cheren has casual clothes outside of his usual teacher’s uniform, but he has more fashionable items in his closet, mostly styled by both Burgh and Elesa!
Being a Gym Leader in Unova means having your very job be publicized and photographed for the world to see, and though its expected to see him in his usual uniform.. well, having a different outfit every now and then wouldn’t hurt!
#Pokemon#Pokemon Black and White#Pokemon Black and White 2#Gym Leader Cheren#My Art#((Imagine having so many exes that one of them just offers to take you to Kalos for clothes shopping /j))#((Anyway the colors are def based off Stoutland and Cinccino respectively!))#((He likes layering especially post BW2 since he's constantly cold.))#((The shades help him deal with cameras being shoved in his face. Or you know. Sand.))#((Imagine he wears this to a gym battle. Kalosians freak out over him getting his fit dirty.))#((Meanwhile Elesa is CHEERING))

What did you say your editing program was named again? Was it for computer or an app?
I use artflow, a free app on mobile
It allows you to pay for more features but I never do that
Okay apparently the rating dropped like .5 stars since I last looked at in the app store
But like yeah! I usually gray out the layer underneath the one I'm working on, use that to get the correct color I want, then go back on the top panel and erase until it looks more normal, then make my next change
For example here's an unfinished sg getaway edit of one oh his panels
You can see I'm trying to turn the black into white and next I'd take the other white and turn it into black, and you can see the edge of a merely hue shifted panel in the corner I'm using as a reference
It looks less "off" than just pushing the hue slider or flipping it into Negative, even if it's a bit more work
#i hope this is coherent of me#i should probably lighten up that grayed layer more#it's just this free little sketch app i abuse the hell out of#there's a subscription based adobe something-or-other on the computer but i barely use it#after all i much prefer to draw with my phone or the page an inch or three away from my face#sg Getaway#mtmte getaway#I'm hoping his colors turn out better once i successfully swap the black and white parts of his frame#if not then I'll swap out the royal blue and cyan for straight up purple and green#again it's the Blue Problem™️#oh and his optics#those are probably gonna become red or yellow#edited photo

You're more amazing than 400 cards
Oh damn is that how many cards you've made? Nice. Anyway here's the last Ultrakill cards
#asks#custom cards#once again the order got messed up#had to shift everything around to get the layers in order#wait hang on i get it now it's exporting in alphabetical order!#my modified set cards exported perfectly because of the numbers at the start!#anyway: WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!#it could export by color or by set number or by the order they were created so why the fuck is it exporting in alphabetical order?#annoying. anyway the layers were kinda difficult. i had to look up the lore on the ultrakill wiki#limbo is supposed to tease how you were so close to getting to heaven so i gave it an ability that's impossible to activate as a cruel joke#lust is just pure red but because of minos's influence it became a thriving city#in gluttony sinners are turned into meat and burned by acid so that's what those are for#wrath is blue-red because ocean but also wrath#heresy is supposed to be some kinda religious ritual. it should really just be white but the are punished with fire and it's VERY red#i wondered if i should make violence red but i already made almost all the other layers red including the black-red greed so it's just blac#almost all the upper layers being red is actually fitting lore-wise because those layers are for sins that are giving into impulses#heresy is where they stop being impulse-based but it's also filled with fire. i think. the levels are mostly just Red

Colour circles connect the dot...
Alright, I couldn't resist not posting something bout my art wip but this is so vague anyway that it's fine and also I find it so funny how it looks like a vaguely shaped tiny t-rex.
#aria rants#am doing smth different for this one as i usually do with my art cuz experimenting on it is fun! this time tho... im trying out#the blending modes of the layers. im using multiply cuz i need muted shades for this piece and i remembered that multiply#is used for shadows during rendering by other artists so im like: well then. put this on the folder cuz i need ALL LAYERS#but at the same time... cuz the colours are muted via a setting and not cuz i specifically chose it i cant colour pick it easily anymore#so i just put all those base colours in my eyestrain reducer background like that so i can remember which colours are for which#also colouring took me lil longer cuz my initial plan was to make everything monochrome but it looks too dull#so im just making things coloured FOR NOW cuz i still wanna test out the monochrome look i just need to colour pick#outside the black white and grey shades and start colour picking on rgb. maybe itd look less dull then but yea!#might make two versions of this cuz of that since am curious how the monochrome would look so first things first: colour vers!

"you have really long eyelashes"
it catches him off guard. you guys are just laying in your bed scrolling on your own phones. he didn't even feel you staring at him. how long have you been looking?
"thanks?" he replies
"no i mean seriously like drop the lash serum." you joke at him as you continue to observe him.
they're long and thick. the kind of lashes that have a natural curl, unlike yours, that fall straight down and take several minutes to curl to your perfect liking. not to mention the layers of mascara you apply to get them to even remotely look like his.
he turns his head to you and you don't miss his dilated pupils as his eyes bore into yours. you take note of how the lashes perfectly frame his eyes. and you're so jealous.
but then an idea pops into your head, you smile to yourself and he senses it coming.
"can i-"
"no" he cuts you off.
"babe please you don't even know what i was about to say!" you grab onto his shoulder as you plead.
"whatever it is im sure it's going to be bad." he retorts, turning his face away from you and going back on his phone.
"i'll buy you you're favorite food."
and that's how you end up here on his lap with your mascara in your hand. his hair is pushed back as his hands rest on your hips, drawing small circles as he awaits your actions.
you open the bottle with the black liquid and bring the wand close to his eyes. "don't move" you whisper and he listens. mainly because he's scared that you're going to poke his eye out as you bring the wand to the base of his eyelashes and wiggle it slowly before moving it up to coat the length of the lashes. some of the mascara gets on his eyelids. you repeat the actions on the other eye before going back and doing a second coat. you can tell that he might be slightly nervous that you're going to blind him with the way he holds his breath and the grip he has on your hips get ever so slightly tighter.
you move yourself off his lap and he goes to grab his phone so he can see what he looks like.
"wait no not yet, i'm still not done" you say as you go and grab ur q-tips and micellar water.
"still?"
"yes still, i need to clean up the mascara on your eyelids," you say as you place yourself back on his lap. you open the bottle of micellar water and carefully put the clear liquid on the q-tip. you bring the white stick of cotton to his eyes and you tell him to close them. he feels the wet cotton and it's a weird feeling. you watch the q-tip turn darker the more mascara you wipe off.
"okay i'm done!" you say and he opens his eyes and you don't think he's ever looked more majestic. his already long lashes looking even longer and bolder now that he has the mascara to bring them out. you notice that the color of his eyes pop more. "you look so pretty" you smile as lean in to pepper kisses along his face. his cheeks feel warm and he can already tell that they're probably red.
he reaches over to his phone and opens the camera app and switches the camera so he can see himself. and he immediatly notices the stark difference in his eyes with the mascara. he brings his fingers to his lashes to touch them. it feels weird and his eyes kind of feel weighed down. but he has no regrets when he sees you smiling at him so fondly.
"they look nice." he smiles at you, dropping his phone to the side.
"i know right, ugh im so jealous i wish i had your lashes. all my problems would be solved." you say, thinking about the long and excruciating lash routine you perform every morning.
"all of them?"
"yes, all of them."
he chuckles at your words. "alright, but can you take it off now, it feels weird." he says, hands coming to touch his lashes again. you pout as you grab the micellar water you put away and a cotton pad and remove the mascara from his eyelashes, being gentle so that he doesn't lose a few. he appreciates the action. and maybe he would let you put more than just mascara on his face another day.
KAGEYAMA (has the best lashes argue with the wall), suna, tsukishima (genuinely terrified that you're going to make him go blind), OSAMU, kuroo, MATSUKAWA MY LOVE, iwaizumi, OIKAWA (he would eat that shit up), akaashi, kenma, +ur fav.

it's funny although a little exasperating how artists designing "princess" or medieval-esque gowns really do not understand how those types of clothes are constructed. We're all so used to modern day garments that are like... all sewn together in one layer of cloth, nobody seems to realize all of the bits and pieces were actually attached in layers.
So like look at this mid-1400's fit:
to get the effect of that orange gown, you've got
chemise next to the skin like a slip (not visible here) (sometimes you let a bit of this show at the neckline) (the point is not to sweat into your nice clothes and ruin them)
kirtle, or undergown. (your basic dress, acceptable to be seen by other people) this is the puffing bits visible at the elbow, cleavage, and slashed sleeve. It's a whole ass dress in there. Square neckline usually. In the left picture it's probably the mustard yellow layer on the standing figure.
Specific Italian style gown. This is the orange diamond pattern part. It's also the bit of darker color visible in the V of the neckline.
surcoat, or sleeveless overgown. THIS is the yellow tapestry print. In the left picture it's the long printed blue dress on the standing figure
if you want to get really fancy you can add basically a kerchief or netting over the bare neck/shoulders. It can be tucked into the neckline or it can sit on top. That's called a partlet.
the best I can tell you is that they were technically in a mini-ice-age during this era. Still looks hot as balls though.
Coats and surcoats are really more for rich people though, normal folks will be wearing this look:
tbh I have a trapeze dress from target that looks exactly like that pale blue one. ye olden t-shirt dress.
You can see how the “renaissance festival” style of kirtle (left) is a modern recreation of this look (right)
so now look here:
(this is a princess btw) both pieces are made of the same blue material so it looks as if it's all one dress, but it's not. The sleeves you're seeing are part of the gown/coat, and the ermine fur lined section on top is a sideless overgown/surcoat. You can tell she's rich as fuck because she's got MORE of that fur on the inside of the surcoat hem.
okay so now look at these guys.
Left image (that's Mary Magdelene by the way) you can see the white bottom layer peeking out at the neckline. That's a white chemise (you know, underwear). The black cloth you see behind her chest lacing is a triangular panel pinned there to Look Cool tm. We can call that bit the stomacher. Over the white underwear is the kirtle (undergown) in red patterned velvet, and over the kirtle is a gown in black. Right image is the same basic idea--you can see the base kirtle layer with a red gown laced over it. She may or may not have a stomacher behind her lacing, but I'm guessing not.
I've kind of lost the plot now and I'm just showing you images, sorry. IN CONCLUSION:
you can tell she's a queen because she's got bits I don't even know the NAMES of in this thing. Is that white bit a vest? Is she wearing a vest OVER her sideless surcoat? Girl you do not need this many layers!
