I bought so many BabyLit books for my nieces and nephews and friends' toddlers. They're a must for book nerds. Glad the tags were helpful!
Not really an ask, just wanted to say, if this is your SIL's first baby, do tell her that if she reads through a picture book and doesn't like it, for any reason (text, style, illustrations), DO NOT KEEP IT. There's a law of nature that a kid will be obsessed with the ones you dislike and there's nothing worse than feeling like you have to keep reading this book you think is garbage to your kid.
This was my mom's hard rule and I respect it so much. Even when we could read by ourselves this was her rule for our whole childhoods. We could check out whatever we wanted from the library, read whatever we wanted in bookstores, but by god no Berenstain Bears book was ever gaining permanent shelf-space in our house. I have twelve nieces and nephews and she was so right on this.
That’s very good advice ngl, I’ll be sure to pass it on! It’s so funny that your mom didn’t like the Berenstain Bears, we had a few books but we watched *so* much of the tv show lol.
(This is the first baby in my immediate family and despite the fact that I’m not directly involved in any way I’ve been mildly panicking whenever I think about it. Anxiety, y’all! But I know it will be fine.)

also while road-tripping, i found these in a little gift shop! (image description in alt. text) i had never heard of this before, but apparently there’s a series of books called “babylit board books” which take classic lit and turn them into board books. “little miss burnett” made me chuckle. and i’m sorry i didn’t get a better picture, especially of the a little princess one! i didn’t look inside that one due to me finding these at the last minute (😭), but in the the secret garden one, it had illustrations of different flowers mentioned in burnett’s original accompanied by authentic quotes, complete with her depiction of yorkshire accents. i didn’t buy them as unfortunately i don’t have any babes in my life who i could gift these to, but they’re so sweet nonetheless!

I’m speechless.
I went to check if there had been any more goth classics for babies, and Amazon (don’t judge me, I’m in Brazil, it’s the only site where I can get these books) recommended me “Nevermore!” for toddlers.
“ Exploring love, loss, and grief, Kate Coombs’ tender story, Poe’s own lyrical words, and Carme Lemniscates’ charming, cheeky, and adorable art will teach your child to Be Creative and Be Brilliant”
Look... I suppose it may be a good book to read to a toddler who unfortunately lost someone at such a young age. I lost a grandmother when I was 2, and I could definitely see my family buying me Edgar Allan Poe to help explain to me what had happened, if it had been an option at the time.
But saying “exploring loss and grief will make your child Creative” in the summary of a book for toddlers is... A choice.

КНИГА: “Little Master Carroll: Alice in Wonderland”, издадена от „GIBBS SMITH“ е част от поредицата „A BabyLit Books“, която въвежда децата в света на класическата литература с лекота.

Book Haul: Presents for Baby
One of my good friends from college had a baby girl in January, so I’ve been going crazy in the children’s section of every bookstore I’ve gone to! She was also an English major and we have very similar tastes, so I know she’ll love all of these. And I made sure there was some math representation with the Ada Lovelace book since her husband majored in math. Ada Lovelace and Jane are from the bookshop at the National Portrait Gallery. The William Morris books are from the Victoria & Albert Museum. She Made a Monster and Jane Eyre: A Counting Primer are from a bookshop near me. I can’t wait to meet the baby and give her all these!

Can you please give us a tour of the Dracula shelf?
Sure! (It’s not really a whole shelf, just a section.)
From left to right in the Alucard picture:
Whitstable, a novel about Peter Cushing being approached by a boy who recognizes him as Van Helsing for help against a mundane but no less real monster. (Sort of a more somber Fright Night…)
Dracula: A BabyLit Counting Primer! It tells the story of Dracula through numbers and simple pictures. Too cute for me to resist.
Dracula, the Barnes and Nobel Edition. The first copy I ever owned, with a great introduction that actually gets Mina’s role in the story.
Dracula, with illustrations by Becky Cloonan! Man, those illustrations are great.
Dracula, a beautiful leather-bound edition the Byronic Hero got me for our first anniversary!
Powers of Darkness: The Lost Version of Dracula, a weird bootleg Icelandic Dracula. (Long story but look it up, it’s worth it.)
Dracula: Sense and Nonsense, a book debunking the various urban legends that have clustered around the creation of the novel.
All Action Classics: Dracula, a really good graphic novel with illustrations that are alternately adorable and terrifying.
Dracula Unredacted, an rpg supplement that purports to be the full, unedited version of Dracula with all the espionage bits Stoker surpressed.
Not pictured: Leslie Klinger’s Dracula, Dracula vs. Hitler and Hollywood Gothic, all three of which I got rid of in the last move, Dracula in Istanbul, which I’m still trying to get ahold of, and Anno Dracula, which I’ve got to get off my ass and read one of these days.

Posted @withrepost • @sayurireviews You are Light By Aaron Becker @storybreathing Published by Candlewick press @candlewickpress This is not just a book but an interactive work of art. It is an ode to light- for all its glory and importance. Right from the cover, one can see the interesting die cuts with translucent colour inserts, and naturally you'll hold the book against a source of light. That's a winner right there. As we flip pages, the different layers of colour interact and mix to give different shades in each spread, apt for the description. The stylized images, that of wheat, sea, all together create a beautiful poetic experience, culminating in this line- "the light is you. And you are light. " I didn't explain anything about this book to Sayu, nor did she ask. But from the time I handed it over to her, she has been exploring it all by herself. So far, it's the visual appeal that's keeping her hooked to it. I'd love to see her grow with this book. Oh, and, Happy Diwali. Thank you for this one! :) @riddhikhadke #sayurireviews #sayurirecommends #bookillustration #bookworm #bookstagram #thousandbooksbeforekindergarten #babylit #bookreview #babybookreview #childrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #youarelight #aaronbecker #candlewickpress #candlewickbooks #happydiwali #diwali #light
