I saw a thread in a romance literature forum that was like "do you write mentions of female characters' body hair in period romance? or readers, do you know of any writers who do/do you imagine it when you read those books?" and the responses were wild
people were like "well I don't imagine them accidentally stepping in manure on the streets, or having rotted teeth from eating processed sugar without fluoride treatments, or dying slowly of consumption, so of COURSE I don't imagine women with armpit hair!!! it ruins the fantasy!!!"
like
those things are. not remotely equal my guy
(I can understand not mentioning it for Writing Flow Reasons. I write period fanfic a lot, and there's just very seldom a chance to organically mention body hair. I'm not going to be like "she put on her stockings over her HAIRY LEGS" in a dressing scene, for example, or "her ball gown shimmered like starlight as she whirled around the floor AND ALSO THE SHORT SLEEVES SHOWED HER UNDERARM HAIR WHICH SHE TOTALLY HAD." but. it's not on the same level as disgusting wasting diseases guys)
(that being said when reading my fanfic just assume Edith and Lucille have never shaved anything in their lives okay)

Such UV absorbers can be inorganic pigments (such as TiO2 and ZnO – ingredients in sunscreens) or organic compounds which transform harmful UV radiation into thermal energy through photophysical processes; the details of these are beyond the scope of this chapter.

4 Must-Have Plant-Based Ingredients for Daily Skincare Routines
Plant-based ingredients are powerful, which is particularly noticeable when a brand features them in skin, hair, and body care products. Products with plant-based ingredients nourish your skin or hair, helping them feel moisturized, invigorated, soothed, and protected. They support body care goals and make you want to uncover other Mother Nature-approved formulas. As you explore various body washes, shampoos, sunscreens, lotions, and other products, keep your eyes peeled for these four potent plant-based powerhouses.
Tumblr media
Aloe Vera Aloe vera is a hydrating ingredient that’s great for your skin and hair. You can find it in shampoo, body wash, lotion, and other products. Aloe vera gel is a clean ingredient—it comes straight from the plant! So, when you see it among the top ingredients in a skincare product, you know it will effectively nourish your skin alongside other plant-based ingredients. Look for lotion, facial tinted sunscreen, shampoo, and body wash products with aloe vera. Eucalyptus Oil Eucalyptus oil is a potent ingredient, even in small amounts. It lends a refreshing aroma to skin, hair, and body care products, making it an enjoyable addition to showers, bedtime routines, and even regular handwashing. Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia, where they are primarily grown and serve as a leading food source for koalas. When you’re looking for a revitalizing skincare product with eucalyptus oil, choose one like a eucalyptus body wash or a hand soap with sustainably sourced eucalyptus oil to ensure both you and the environment can continue to benefit from the plant. Oat Oat is a fantastic plant-based ingredient in skincare products—and one you’ll always recognize as such. It’s gentle, nourishing, and mild enough for even baby products. That’s not to say that you don’t also benefit from oat. Try it in your skin, hair, and body care routines, and you’ll discover that this ingredient makes a big difference in how your skin looks and feels. You can find this soothing ingredient in lotion, body wash, and some sensitive facial creams to help your skin feel soft and smooth. Zinc Oxide Zinc oxide is an ingredient in Hawaii-compliant sun care products that physically block UV rays. It’s a fantastic addition to skincare products like zinc sunscreen. Zinc oxide is a white mineral and can leave a white cast, so you might reach for a facial tinted sunscreen with the ingredient. The protective ingredient has also been known to soothe the skin. Whether it’s in a regular zinc sunscreen or a tinted face cream, zinc belongs in your daily routine. If you want to build a skincare routine featuring powerful, plant-based ingredients, look for any of these four ingredients. They’re fantastic additions to any skin, hair, or body care product, including facial tinted sunscreen, sunscreen lotion, body wash, shampoo, daily lotion, and even hand soap. Plant-based ingredients are safe, gentle, and effective, so look for a brand harnessing the power of Mother Nature to find what you need for an excellent head-to-toe routine. About Babo Botanicals Babo Botanicals connects you to nature with their high-quality skin, hair, and body care products featuring nourishing, plant-based ingredients that are safe for the whole family. Greetings on this lovely warm weather Friday. It’s time for the beach! With a wide array of sunscreen products on the market and at a wide range of price points, choosing comes down to what you consider important; aside from sun protection (obviously) it’s also price, ingredients or brand, and to others it’s a reef safe product. With the point of view as a holistic health practitioner and all…

Protect Your Workforce: Understanding the Importance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
In any industry that deals with chemicals, health and safety should always be a top priority. The use of chemicals poses a significant risk to human health and the environment if not handled properly.
One critical tool for ensuring safety is the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). A zinc oxide safety data sheet is a document that provides vital information about a particular chemical substance. It contains details such as the chemical's physical and chemical properties, potential hazards, handling procedures, and emergency response protocols.
The SDS is a globally recognized format, designed to ensure that workers have access to accurate information about the chemicals they work with. It is legally required for all hazardous chemicals. By reading and understanding the vinyl acetate safety data sheet, workers can identify potential hazards associated with the chemicals they are using and take steps to protect themselves and others from harm.
Safety Data Sheet (SDS)also provides crucial information on what personal protective equipment (PPE) should be worn while handling the chemical, such as gloves, goggles or respirators. It is important to note that the SDS is not just for workers. Employers must also have access to these documents and ensure their employees are trained to use them.
At the Knights of Safety Ltd., we understand the importance of providing comprehensive training on SDS and other safety protocols to protect your workforce. Our team of experts can assist your organisation in developing and implementing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment.
For more information on SDS or other safety programs, visit The Knights of Safety Ltd, or contact them today at 0161 884 4156 or email us at [email protected].

ok but what are YOUR favorite and probably real victorian funfacts?
There genuinely were some doctors who thought riding in trains would cause uterine prolapse [uterus falling out], when trains were new. The concern was that the vibrations from travelling so fast would break the fibers connecting the uterus to the abdominal wall. Unsurprisingly, this did not stop women from riding in trains. Because fuck that noise- trains!!!
One time in the 1840s a bunch of doctors shellacked live horses and rabbits and concluded, when the animals died (probably from heat exhaustion after being unable to sweat), that they had suffocated and that mammals breathed partially through our skin.
Some beauty manuals of the era may have created accidental sunscreen. Occasionally you see advice to wear cold cream on your face when going out, to prevent sunburn. This probably mostly didn't work- but some cold cream recipes contained zinc oxide for a "white foundation" effect, due to beauty standards favoring very light skin, which may have created a low-level SPF. Other manuals also advocate sealing the cold cream in with powder...which even more frequently involved zinc oxide.
A dentist may have gotten away with a malpractice death by blaming tightlacing. A 23-year-old maid named Annie Budden, of Preston, England, went to have a tooth pulled in January of 1895 and suffocated after the procedure, during which she had been dosed with nitrous oxide. The dentist said she was tightlaced and therefore the coroner ruled that he was not at fault- however said dentist claimed that her natural waist was 23" and her corset measured 18". Presumably that's the closed measurement, and corsets were commonly worn with at least a 2" lacing gap at the time (one corset ad I've seen mentions that women liked to give the theoretical closed measurement of their corset as their waist measurement, to make it sound smaller, while actually wearing it with the customary gap). Ergo, she was only laced down about 2-3 inches, a difference unlikely to cause asphyxiation. The fact that she worked as a maid similarly calls the assessment into question- how could she have successfully done physical labor while laced down in a way that diminished her lung capacity so much? Her employer vouched for her good character and excessive tightlacing was seen as vanity- and would have been noticed by making Miss Budden look out-of-proportion physically. That doesn't add up either, to me. The dentist went on to become mayor of the town where this all happened.
That thing above started as a fun fact about the only credible death due to tightlacing and then I looked into it more and now I'm just mad.
Justice For Annie Budden
Sorry this has gotten off-track but I'm still mad about the whole Annie Budden thing

I think you mentioned you wanted acne tips? I have collected some from my time on T. If not, please ignore:
- shaving worsens it, causes micro cuts that let bacteria in. Zinc oxide is a skin protectant (active ingredient in both diaper rash cream & some sunscreens) and if you apply it after shaving it can reduce some of the aftermath. Also just good as an all around cream.
- clay masks help with pain and don't only have to be used on your face. I like the bentonite clay ones. My local discount grocery has some for cheap, you might have such luck at similar places near you.
- fabric content matters. Many natural fibers like cotton absorb oils from your skin. Polyester doesn't. I spend most of my time in cotton shirts and it reduces the oil buildup on my back. Just be sure to wash them well after. Spray & wash helps get the oil out of the fibers.
- a hot washcloth can bring some pustules to a head so they drain, and also helps with pain. No need to wash every time you want pain relief, just get it hot and apply.
- if it's really bad, a benzoyl peroxide cream can reduce some of it. It's really drying though, and it bleaches both hair and fabric, so be careful.
- hydrocolloid bandages and other bandages are great for covering some kinds of acne. They remove it from view so you don't pick at it, and having come covering on can help with pain caused by brushing the area accidentally. Hydrocolloid bandages also absorb the pus from some blemishes and help them heal faster.
this is super helpful, thank you!

what. I heard chemical sunscreens were the scam.
mineral sunscreens are at best lying to the public and at worst actively harming its users. mineral suncreens have a problem with formula texture and will often recommend people use a "pea sized" amount of sunscreen to combat this, which is not Nearly enough and result in people being inadequately protected from the sun while convinced that they are. mineral sunscreens also dodge regulations and use misleading language when promoting their products (like saying theyre 100% chemical free when they use zinc oxide, a chemical. oops!) and will even use unsafe ingredients in their products in an attempt to avoid "chemicals". chemical ingredients are highly regulated and very specific about how much youre legally allowed to use because there have been tests done about risk and its been tested over and over. ironically enough, some mineral suncreens are actually hybrid sunscreens (its almost like you need ~Chemicals~ in order to create literally anything) and will still market themselves as being Clean and Chemical Free while literally containing the same ingredients as the brands theyre bashing!
mineral sunscreens are by and large capitalizing off of people's fears surrounding their health and risking people's lives to do it. this is not to say that omg my chemical sunscreens are my precious babies free of criticism, but mineral sunscreens are not the saviors of the reefs nor your skin and if you want to be protected you need to have more than a pea sized amount on your face!

hi, I saw your primal chic beauty post and want to recommend a deodorant that goes with all the values you speak to and is actually better for your skin and environment and so insanely simple: potassium alum salt!!! I buy mine from Holland and Barret and it is just a rock that I use after the shower and makes my sweat odourless (good thing is that I still sweat so it means it doesn’t block my sweat glands/not antiperspirant)! No harsh chemicals, pure natural source and dare I say economically very friendly. Wanted to contribute to you just like you’re generous with us with your knowledge/advice!
Hi Nonnie! I love this! And for people who sweat lightly potassium alum salt is a wonderful alternative, I enjoyed crystal and Thai 100% Crystal however, with my job I wear very light blue scrubs (Ciel blue, the same color as the residents in Greys Anatomy) day in and day out and I sweat heavily, so for those like me looking to avoid visible sweat marks, I reccommend switching to a non-aersolized solid antiperspirant stick from aersolized products like dry sprays. My Dove 72-hour stick is cruelty free, alcohol free, and PETA approved, and it is gentler but similarly effective to the clinical strength sprays I used to use without the propelants and air pollutants.
For our comfort and our ability to stick with a more sustainable option, we sometimes have to take smaller steps, like eliminating aersols. Let's use sunscreen as an example: I could switch to an unscented zinc mineral sunscreen rather than my current titanium oxide fragranced sunscreen, but I'd be less likely to bother wearing sunscreen if I didn't like the feel of the sunscreen product I use, so I switched to the lotion formula from the aersolized one, and when I switched to Sun Bums aersolized formula it was because they lacked certain chemicals that cause damage to reefs that my Neutrogena spray had.
If we dive straight into the most ecologically gentle option and most minimalist skincare, we may become discouraged because of negative results we have and then decide to go back to our least ecologically friendly option, vs if we balance sustainability with personal comfort, we're more likely to stick with those more eco-friendly options and gradually continue our journey to even more sustainable options.

PSA that despite the popular misconception, you still need to wear sunscreen on during winter
If you have sensitive skin or a skin condition like eczema, try opting for a mineral sunscreen. These are gentler on the skin, and zinc oxide in particular may have benefits beyond preventing skin cancer

Parents Will Enjoy This Self-Care Routine with Plant-Based Ingredients This Summer
The school year may feel long for parents, but a summer without a self-care routine can feel even longer. That’s why it’s essential for you to make time to practice basic self-care, support and maintain your skin and hair, and harmonize with nature while you do it. As summertime gets rolling and you get swept up in the rush of being a parent, take these steps at the start of your day for some easy self-care approved by Mother Nature.
Tumblr media
Start with an Aromatic Shower or Bath If you wake up just 10-15 minutes earlier than usual, you have time for a shower. The morning is a great time for self-care because you don’t have to squeeze it into the end of the day. Use eucalyptus body wash and shampoo in your daily shower to enjoy a refreshing scent and start the day with the help of an aromatic experience. Nourish Your Hair with a Reliable Conditioner You will usually follow the shampoo with a conditioner, and the product doesn’t have to include anything more than simple, pure ingredients to enjoy the sensation of soft and clean-feeling hair. Use the companion conditioner for your eucalyptus body wash and shampoo, or find one with a scent and ingredients that appeal to your needs. Apply an Extra-Gentle Body Lotion When you get out of the shower, ensure your skin feels hydrated and nourished with a body lotion with plant-based ingredients, such as oat, shea butter, calendula, and sunflower oil. In a dermatologist-tested formula, these plant-based ingredients help skin feel soothed, providing comfort and a moment to relax before the day begins as you massage it into your skin. Use High-Quality Skincare Products After showering and using body lotion, you turn to the mirror to care for your complexion. You may start to run short on time for self-care at this point in the morning, but even if you use a multitasking product, choose a high-quality one with moisturizing, plant-based ingredients. Seek out a mineral-based facial tinted sunscreen for an even-looking liquid application that feels lightweight and smooth. This product can help speed up the morning process, and you may not even need to apply moisturizer before or foundation after—it’s a quick skincare essential you can use on its own during busy mornings. As a parent, it feels like everything is about your children. While that’s not a bad thing, you need to give yourself time in the day for your needs. Use gentle products with plant-based ingredients to create a morning self-care routine and meet all your needs. It’ll help you start the day with support from Mother Nature, and it may help you harmonize with your surroundings when you and your kids walk through the garden, play at the park, and just enjoy the summer. About Babo Botanicals When you want to enjoy nature’s goodness outside and inside the home, Babo Botanicals can help you bring nourishing, plant-based ingredients into skin, body, hair, and sun care routines for the whole family. They are dedicated to using sustainably sourced ingredients from independent farms, providing an opportunity to become familiar with the purity of a close connection with nature through every product.
