It’s difficult, when the artist’s last name is Marley, to try to appreciate him on his own merits instead of just thinking about his father… but in the case of Ziggy Marley’s Conscious Party, those merits are prodigious enough not to be overshadowed! The songs on here are so good, the reggae groove a wonderful example of the genre in the late 80s, and I can’t pretend it’s not nice to hear the I-Three like female backing vocals. I first got to know this record on a 25-cent cassette, so it’s nice to blow it up into full sound quality on this vinyl edition. Oh, and it was produced by Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club. In case you needed extra incentive.

Ziggy Marley performing “Could You Be Loved”. _____________________ Could You Be Loved Songwriter: Bob Marley
Could you be loved then be loved? Could you be loved then be loved?
Don't let them fool ya
Or even try to school ya, oh no We've got a mind of our own So go to hell if what you thinkin' is not right Love would never leave us alone Ah in the darkness, there must come out to light
Could you be loved then be loved? Now could you be loved, woah yeah, then be loved?
(The road of life is rocky) (And you may stumble too) (So why don't you point your fingers) (At someone else that's judging you) Love your brother, man! (Could you be, could you be loved?) (Could you be, could you be loved?) (Could you be, could you be, could you be loved?) (Could you be, could you be loved?)
Don't let them change ya, oh
Or even rearrange ya Oh no
We've got the life to live (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
They say only, only Only the fittest of the fittest shall survive Stay alive, eh
Could you be loved then be loved? Now could you be loved, woah yeah, and be loved?
(Ain't gon' miss your water until your well runs dry) Oh yeah Girl (No matter how you treat him, the man will never be satisfied) Say something (Could you be, could you be, could you be loved?) (Could you be, could you be loved?)
Say something, say something (Could you be, could you be, could you be loved?) Say something (Could you be, could you be loved?) Say something, say something (Say something) Say something, say something (Could you be loved?) say something
Say something, (Reggae, reggae) Say something, (Rock on, rock on) Say something, (Reggae, reggae) Say something, (Rock on, rock on)
Say something (Could you be loved?) Say something, (Could you be loved?) Say something, (Come on!)
Say something (Could you be, could you be, could you be loved?) Say something (Could you be, could you be loved?) Say something (Could you be, could you be, could you be loved?) Say something (Could you be, could you be loved?)

I’m a Jamaican Jew and I’ve been wondering if any boycotts of the new Bob Marley movie will happen due to the Marley’s connection and support of Israel. Ziggy Marley himself won an award for support of Israel and is married to an Israeli. Rastafarianism (and many of Bob Marley’s songs) was greatly influenced by Judaism. (Rasta’s are not like BHI though, they don’t believe they are the ‘real Jews’ or anything, it just influenced them). I know most people are not aware of this, but with how adamant people are in searching for any connection to Jewishness a person/brand/company etc might have and then vilifying it for being ‘Zionist’ it does make me wonder if it’ll happen. I’ve already seen many people judge the family for their Zionism, but I hope it doesn’t spread to attempts to boycott the movie bc that’ll just suck, Bob doesn’t deserve to have his story hijacked by antisemitism.
That's a fascinating question - and one I'm not suited to answer at all! I did a quick search and saw nothing suggesting people were protesting the movie at all, but if anyone has heard otherwise, please feel free to write in a follow-up.

Are there any Bob Marley/Ziggy Marley Wings of Fire or Warriors animatics? If not y'all are sleeping on them.
Darkstalker/Queen Wasp | See Dem Fake Leaders (Ziggy)
Almost any WoF protag really | War (Bob)
Hawkfrost | I Shot the Sheriff (Bob)
RiverClan | Rebellion Rises (Ziggy)
Edit: Hawkfrost fits Eric Clapton's version better, but Tigerstar would fit the original I Shot the Sheriff

Former Wailers Bassist Aston “Familyman” Barrett Dies at 77
- “My teacher is gone,” Ziggy Marley says
Aston “Familyman” Barrett, the Wailers’ bassist from 1970 until Bob Marley’s death in 1981, died Feb. 3 “after a long medical battle,” the band announced on its social medial platforms.
“The world lost not just an iconic musician and the backbone of the Wailers, but a remarkable human being whose legacy is as immense as his talent,” the announcement said.
Barrett was 77.
“My teacher is gone,” Ziggy Marley said in a statement. “ … We will continue to study his genius for generations to come.”
Post-Wailers, Barrett went on to play with Lee “Scratch” Perry, his former bandmate Peter Tosh, the the Aggrovators and others.
“Your music will live in my heart forever,” Kenny Chesney said of Barrett, who received Jamaica’s Order of Distinction award in 2021.
“As a reggae bass player, … Barrett was obviously one of the best,” UB40 said in a statement. “He was truly inspirational and directly and indirectly inspired us to form our band.”
