"In the Canary Islands, in Barcelona, and in Chile, a unique fog catcher design is sustaining dry forests with water without emissions, or even infrastructure.
Replicating how pine needles catch water, the structure need only be brought on-site and set up, without roads, powerlines, or irrigation channels.
Fog catching is an ancient practice—renamed “cloud milking” by an EU-funded ecology project on the Canary Islands known as LIFE Nieblas (nieblas means fog).
“In recent years, the Canaries have undergone a severe process of desertification and we’ve lost a lot of forest through agriculture. And then in 2007 and 2009, as a result of climate change, there were major fires in forested areas that are normally wet,” said Gustavo Viera, the technical director of the publicly-funded project in the Canaries.
The Canaries routinely experience blankets of fog that cloak the islands’ slopes and forests, but strong winds made fog-catching nets an unfeasible solution. In regions such as the Atacama Desert in Chile or the Atlas Mountains of North Africa, erecting nets that capture moisture particles out of passing currents of fog is a traditional practice.
LIFE Nieblas needed a solution that could resist powerful winds, and to that end designed wind chime-like rows of artificial pine needles, which are also great at plucking moisture from the air. However, unlike nets or palms, they efficiently let the wind pass through them.
The water is discharged without any electricity. There are no irrigation channels, and no machinery is needed to transport the structures. The natural course of streams and creeks need not be altered, nor is there a need to drill down to create wells. The solution is completely carbon-free.

In the ravine of Andén in Gran Canaria, a 35.8-hectare (96 acres) mixture of native laurel trees irrigated by the fog catchers enjoys a survival rate of 86%, double the figure of traditional reforestation.
“The Canaries are the perfect laboratory to develop these techniques,” said Vicenç Carabassa, the project’s head scientist, who works for the Center for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications at the University of Barcelona. “But there are other areas where the conditions are optimal and where there is a tradition of water capture from fog, such as Chile and Morocco.”
In Chile’s Coquimbo province, the town of Chungungo is collecting around 250 gallons a day from a combination of locally-made fog catchers and LIFE Nieblas’ pine needle design, the Guardian reports."

[T]here are now signs that China’s thirst for crude is reaching a peak sooner than expected, a development that has sent shockwaves through the oil market. This week, China said its oil imports had fallen nearly 2 per cent, or 240,000 barrels a day, to just over 11mn b/d in 2024 compared with the year before, the first decline in two decades barring the disruption during the Covid pandemic[...]. [T]he decline stems from longer-term trends too. There was a boom in trucks switching from diesel to liquefied natural gas, and, most importantly, the rising number of electric vehicles helped to depress sales of petrol and diesel. Sales of both road fuels peaked in 2023, according to China National Petroleum Corp, and will now fall by 25-40 per cent over the next decade. In December, Sinopec, China’s biggest refiner, brought forward its forecast for crude oil consumption to reach a peak to 2027, compared with the range it previously gave of between 2026 and 2030. The implications of China hitting peak oil are enormous. If Chinese demand is reaching a plateau that would fulfil projections by the IEA of global oil demand peaking before 2030. The forecast sustains hope for the world to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050."

The United States solar energy boom is finally taking off - in the worst way. In the Mojave desert and other federal lands across the West, utility-scale installations are putting gigawatt-hours of energy on the board and powering millions of homes. But the designs are sloppy, the labor conditions are horrific, and the environmental damage is incalculable. Ancient joshua trees are being clear cut, endangered desert tortoises are being left for dead, the vast biotic carbon stores of Mojave soils are being upturned, and the reflectivity of enormous expanses of desert are being altered, affecting the planetary climate. But it doesn't have to be this way. There's a type of energy that requires no fuel and no land. It hardly even needs transmission lines, as it can be built at the site of use: rooftop solar. Every hour of the day, rooftops across the United States soak up enough sun to generate petawatts of power. Estimates for their potential to offset US energy demand range from 13 percent to over 100. Yet at present, only around 2 percent of US energy is generated by rooftop. And then there's land area that's already been developed. Just by building solar on degraded lands, focusing on superfund sites, reservoirs, and farmland, researchers estimate we could generate more than enough to offset today's national energy demand. While there are points of dispute concerning some projections, the conclusion is clear: between the potential of degraded lands, rooftops, wind, and storage - plus existing hydro, nuclear, and other zero carbon energy sources, there's really no need to tear up the rare and fragile ecosystems of our deserts.

WHAT CAUSES A STAR TO SHINE??

Astronomers estimate that the universe could contain up to one septillion stars – that’s a one followed by 24 zeros. Our Milky Way alone contains more than 100 billion, including our most well-studied star, the Sun.
Stars are giant balls of hot gas – mostly hydrogen, with some helium and small amounts of other elements. Every star has its own life cycle, ranging from a few million to trillions of years, and its properties change as it ages.
Stars form in large clouds of gas and dust called molecular clouds. Molecular clouds range from 1,000 to 10 million times the mass of the Sun and can span as much as hundreds of light-years.

Molecular clouds are cold which causes gas to clump, creating high-density pockets. Some of these clumps can collide with each other or collect more matter, strengthening their gravitational force as their mass grows. Eventually, gravity causes some of these clumps to collapse. When this happens, friction causes the material to heat up, which eventually leads to the development of a protostar – a baby star. Batches of stars that have recently formed from molecular clouds are often called stellar clusters, and molecular clouds full of stellar clusters are called stellar nurseries.

At first, most of the protostar’s energy comes from heat released by its initial collapse. After millions of years, immense pressures and temperatures in the star’s core squeeze the nuclei of hydrogen atoms together to form helium, a process called nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion releases energy, which heats the star and prevents it from further collapsing under the force of gravity.
Astronomers call stars that are stably undergoing nuclear fusion of hydrogen into helium main sequence stars. This is the longest phase of a star’s life. The star’s luminosity, size, and temperature will slowly change over millions or billions of years during this phase. Our Sun is roughly midway through its main sequence stage.

A star’s gas provides its fuel, and its mass determines how rapidly it runs through its supply, with lower-mass stars burning longer, dimmer, and cooler than very massive stars. More massive stars must burn fuel at a higher rate to generate the energy that keeps them from collapsing under their own weight. Some low-mass stars will shine for trillions of years – longer than the universe has currently existed – while some massive stars will live for only a few million years.
At the beginning of the end of a star’s life, its core runs out of hydrogen to convert into helium. The energy produced by fusion creates pressure inside the star that balances gravity’s tendency to pull matter together, so the core starts to collapse. But squeezing the core also increases its temperature and pressure, making the star slowly puff up. However, the details of the late stages of the star’s death depend strongly on its mass.

A low-mass star’s atmosphere will keep expanding until it becomes a subgiant or giant star while fusion converts helium into carbon in the core. (This will be the fate of our Sun, in several billion years.) Some giants become unstable and pulsate, periodically inflating and ejecting some of their atmospheres. Eventually, all the star’s outer layers blow away, creating an expanding cloud of dust and gas called a planetary nebula.
All that’s left of the star is its core, now called a white dwarf, a roughly Earth-sized stellar cinder that gradually cools over billions of years.

A high-mass star goes further. Fusion converts carbon into heavier elements like oxygen, neon, and magnesium, which will become future fuel for the core. For the largest stars, this chain continues until silicon fuses into iron. These processes produce energy that keeps the core from collapsing, but each new fuel buys it less and less time. The whole process takes just a few million years. By the time silicon fuses into iron, the star runs out of fuel in a matter of days. The star’s iron core collapses until forces between the nuclei push the brakes, then it rebounds. This change creates a shock wave that travels outward through the star. The result is a huge explosion called a supernova. The core survives as an incredibly dense remnant, either a neutron star or a black hole.
Material cast into the cosmos by supernovae and other stellar events will enrich future molecular clouds and become incorporated into the next generation of stars.

I normally associate Mazda's old M2 division with building versions of Roadsters and the AZ-1. I hadn't known about this FD3S RX7 based M2 1020 . Translation of pages below.

Extreme downforce and traction
It's finally out! Or more accurately, it's finally out!
This is the Infini RX-7 built by M2. Its name is 1020.
The concept is to combine sportiness and comfort that is on par with the Type RZ.
This time, since it was a prototype, I only did a quick run. Still, it was in the 9-second range.
This is no ordinary product. Can you wait until it is released on the market in the fall of 1994?

A quick run at Tsukuba in under 9 seconds!
Original Tuned RX-7
The RX-7 itself is so extreme that it can be called a tuned car. In other words, in exchange for increasing the potential of the car as a sports car, it cuts off drivers below a certain level. It is a super high-performance car, but it is not made for everyone.
This is one of the proud things about owning an RX-7, but it also makes tuning a car like this extremely difficult. I've had over 10 tuned RX-7s, and every tuner I've talked to has said it was easy to tune.
I have never heard of such a thing.
In the midst of all this, Mazda's tuning factory, M2, has announced the release of a tuned car based on the RX-7 called the 1020.
"It's still in the development stage, so please don't drive it at full speed," I persuaded him, but I brought it to the Tsukuba Circuit and test drove it. Of course, I couldn't do a full-speed time attack, but I did a good job of driving a two-seater.
With a little push I was able to get a 9 second time. I felt like I could easily get a 7 second time even in this condition.
Of course it is. The M2 is made up of some of the most prominent members of Mazda's sports car development team. The M2 is made by the creator of the RX-7, who is essentially tuning it himself.
The development concept is also ambitious. It should be faster on the circuit than the Type RZII.
It's also a comfortable sports car that makes long-distance driving a breeze.
This is the RX-7 before the minor change. The exterior features a front bumper and rear spoiler, as well as a lightweight carbon bonnet with an air bulge (this will reportedly be made of aluminum for sale). The wheels and tires are BBS aluminum wheels with 235/40ZR17 front and 255/40ZR17 rear.
The car is fitted with Pirelli P-ZERO tires from Japan. The damper is an M2 tune based on a high pressure gas shock.
The intake and exhaust system remains standard for now.
It is highly likely that the car will be tuned with M2 tuning when it goes on sale. This is a reasonable tuning method, but it will have a larger intercooler and muffler tuning.
I wonder if this will be done.
Looking at the interior, the carbon kevlar bucket seats.
I thought they were the Recaro seats used in the RZ, but they are actually original to the M2.
Contrary to appearances, it's easy to ride
I always get nervous when test driving the RX-7 because its high performance requires precise handling.
However, right after the pit exit, "This car is very fast.
I could sense that this car would be friendly to drivers. This was evident from the very supple stroke of the suspension. Despite the use of high-pressure gas shocks, the initial roll was supple, and the ride felt like it would obey my commands. There was no bad habit of the RX-7 of cutting too much in response to steering inputs, and the steering felt natural.
I tried to step on the accelerator hard when exiting the corner, but it started to slip.
The braking performance was at a fairly high level, and the way it moved was slow. I think this was largely due to the characteristics of the Pirelli tires. After making sure that there were no sudden changes in behavior, I gradually raised the base and started with the "Zhou". I was told that the brakes were equipped with prototype pads, and the effect was in proportion to the pressure applied to the pedal, so the good controllability was also a reassuring factor.
The damper settings have not yet been finalized,
therefore, from the second lap onwards, I consciously increased the cornering speed and found that the setting was a little on the underside.
If you don't load the car fairly firmly into the corner, you will feel the slip angle increase from the middle of the corner. Even when drifting in medium-speed corners such as dunlop corners, the rear feels like it is being pressed down from above, and the front and rear tires slide diagonally.
In terms of grip balance, it seems like the rear is better than the front.
At first glance, the 1020 is fitted with flashy aero parts, but these are the results of wind tunnel testing, and are intended to increase downforce. There is still room for further refinements, so the detailed data doesn't mean much, but the lift coefficient at the rear is said to be negative.
This may be what's working. Surprisingly, I could clearly feel the downforce in the final corner and in the high-speed corners from Dunlop Corner to the second hairpin. In terms of balance, the rear downforce is greater than the front, and it feels like the rear tires are being pressed down. There is clearly a greater sense of contact with the ground for the rear tires.
In the final corner, perhaps due to the damper settings, even if you let off the throttle midway through the corner and try to tail out the rear, it was stiff.
It grips firmly and doesn't slip.
Due to the strong downforce at the rear, the handling is somewhat understated, so it is highly likely that the suspension, including the springs, will be further tuned before it goes on sale.
The next thing is the engine. It is powerful enough as it is, but as you go around the track the engine heats up and the power loss becomes noticeable. In that sense, it would be good to have a larger intercooler and, if possible, a larger radiator. And if you make the exhaust system, that is, the muffler pipes, thicker, you can definitely increase the torque across the entire range.
Lastly, the body rigidity of the pre-facelift RX-7 seems to be lacking compared to the current model. When I asked how they would deal with this, I was told that they were considering installing a roll cage.
The car is already stable and fast enough as it is, so there are high expectations for the performance of the completed M2 1020.

The exterior design of the M2 1020 is more aggressive than the 102, but it is not just a case of flashy aero parts; it is an aerodynamic body that has been created through repeated wind tunnel testing. 3● The front bumper has a larger opening for a more powerful design. This also improves the cooling effect. The lip spoiler is likely to be enlarged in the future to increase front downforce. 4● An air bulge opens up into the bonnet. It mainly serves as an air outlet to release heat from the engine compartment. Incidentally, the bonnet hood will be made of aluminum at the time of release. 5● The two front seats are bucket seats. They are made entirely of Kevlar and are original to the M2. They provide excellent holding power. Incidentally, it will also be fitted to the Roadster M2 version to be released in the spring of 1994. 6● The steering wheel around the instrument panel has been changed to a new Momo product, but everything is normal. I would like to see a boost gauge and oil temperature gauge added. 7● The extra-large rear wing is fixed. 8● The tires are Pirelli P-ZERO, 235/40ZR17 at the front and 255/40ZR17 at the rear. They have excellent grip performance, but at the same time, they are characterized by a slow start and are easy to control. They are a tire that can be enjoyed not only on the circuit but also on winding roads. They match well with the car.

This blog exceeds to help newcomers to my AU environment. This blog will be updated over time if I see fit to change how this works interacts with itself. This blogs images will be updated over time if I find more suitable matches.

This is an AU inspired by Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is a free to join au. Major canon characters are prohibited from being claimed. Villains are up to discussion.
This is a isn't the backstory post of the turtles but the world they live in.

City Summary
After the integration of Yokai as independent civilians and free citizens world wide, and with the collaboration of their technology as well as krang salvage, a new system of buildings and interlinks have been created to accommodate citizens. Buildings stacked overhead that pierce the clouds, the old world was left to turn into slums and poor living areas on ground zero. Due to permanent clouds caused by pollution and overhead cities, these major empires are in a permanent state of darkness. Neon signs often light these cities to create a spectacular aroura of lights and designs. Though with a permanent overcast comes with a cost, as rain clouds mix with polluted smog to create a toxic like rain that causes many illnesses. It's common among every citizen to keep an oxygen mask at all times in case of rain.
City main inspiration and reference: Altered Carbon
Major cities as listed above are unique as floating SSC (Solar System Cosmopolis) Cities cover most of the dense populated area. These floating cities serve as purpose as secured homing for politicians, celebrities, and mostly the rich. Though they are also engineered mega labs founded by Barron Draxum and Donatello Hamato. They serve to bring back and study extinct species, cultivate cures for major diseases, and help improve on already futuristic technology. They spin very slowly and resemble that of a solar system. Hense the nickname.
These cities are held afloat by a self sustainable gravity generator that uses the gravity of a man made miniature star; created by Donatello Hamato (age 20).

Hidden cities
These main cities are focused world points for another reason. They rest above other hidden cities in which they have their own theme and setting.
New Yorks hidden city belongs to Big Mama, a spider Yokai who deals in illegal gambling and the distribution of illegal mystic items. NY Hidden city remains as a hub for traveling species of Yokai from all around the world.
Hong Kongs hidden city belongs to [REDACTED TBA]- A Dragon Yokai who deals in illegal sales of mystic items and krang salvage from the old battle.
This hidden city is less developed than the others, as most accomodation plans have been denied to preserve its pristine buildings and history. This hidden city resembles deep mountain caverns with buildings built into the sides. Common mystical creatures from Chinese mythology live within this city and rarely travel. Humans are not allowed.

London's hidden city belongs to [REDACTED TBA] A plant like fairy Yokai who often helps with creating forged ID's to help Yokai find a better place to live. She also is known to sell potions that aren't approved by the hidden cities overlords and FDA.
This hidden city has developed slowly over time, but due to quick overgrowth of plants and trees. Most buildings have been built into large glowing trees that hang over the city in beautiful rainbow colors. The ground is a great hub for growing fruits and herbs for medicines. The Yokai in this hidden city are spirits from English folklore. They have spread over different cities over time.

Seouls hidden city belongs to [REDACTED] a Polar Bear Yokai who deals in illegal weapon distribution and species trafficking.
This hidden city is up to date and mostly in an indoor environment due to this hidden city being within a freezing temperature climate. More artic themed Yokai live within, but this hidden city is popular as a summar retreat by humans and other Yokai looking to stay cool for the summer. But this hidden city isn't as welcoming to humans as the others.

Tokyos hidden city belongs to Yeosobai. A jellyfish Yokai who deals with handles most black markets and distribution of illegal substances.
This hidden city is completely underwater. Surrounded on a deep voided ocean under Japan, pod cities have been added to accommodate air breathing citizens, though most buildings were air tight even before. This hidden city is also a large hub for tourists due to its underwater appeal. This city distributes most seafood around the county. Known for its large amount of attractions and adult clubs, it's also a very crime ridden city.
This is also where Current Donatello resides.

Human and Yokai stances
With the sudden booming population of mutants and Yokai integrating into human society, of course tensions and protests by humans were bound to happen. A world they were so used to was building into something unknown before their very eyes after all. And so, tensions between species rose.
Humans with a deep dislike towards other species either hide their hate, or become extremists. Often getting tag as cultists as over years hate crimes toward Yokai and mutants became a world wide situation. Yokai were often kidnapped from their homes to be found barley recognizable by their attackers. Yokai would retaliate, and after much tension, civil wars broke out. Protests for safer living for both species were in demand, and so most governments integrated an artificial intelligence police force that contained mostly droids to prevent race picking. Most countries have adapted this form of law enforcement.
Cultists are still a major problem though their numbers have thinned.
The term Mutant has become a word to target Yokai and mutants in a hateful way, and this word soon became outdated. All non humans are now under the identification of Yokai. This includes mixed races between the two.
It's common for Yokai and humans relationships! Often by now the first generations of Yokai and humans hybrid children are born!
There are even schools for these rare breeds as they are still being studied as a new species.
It is illegal for most countries to have discrimination between species. No Yokai only or human only living spaces, restaurants, or shops.
Though within most slums there is a secret rule to separate the species as mostly disgrunted humans and Yokai live here.

It's really up to you! Most humans and Yokai wear mostly cyberpunk themed clothing! Often I find Pinterest as a source of inspiration. I think your character would fit better if it comes from a certain part of the world. Armor and glowing clothes are welcome and encouraged! Get creative!
I want my character to have cool robotic limbs and mods in their body! Is this allowed?
Yep! And encouraged! This is a futuristic setting! So modifications to the body aren't uncommon!
Can my characters have cool unique weapons?
Of course! And I'd love to see them!! 🔥🔥🔥

That's up for discussion. Current time Donatello isn't open to being known nor talkative to strangers. I'd like it if you didnt. He's playing dead unlike the rest of his brothers. Leo's up for discussion but with Mikey and Raph, they are more social and I can see them having multiple friends. Leo's treated more as a police officer and doesn't have a lot of friends due to his work.
Can my character work for the main boss Yokai of the hidden city.
Yes! I'd like you to stay close to what they do in terms of how they run things!
Can I claim ships with these characters?
NO.
Claiming ships with only your characters and main cast is prohibited. That's why Y/N is created as a medium for all 18+ participants that want to ship their characters with main cast. Ships are fun and welcome! But you cannot claim it as a you only ship.
