After years spent investigating the mysterious shrines of East Necula, Dr. Calip has joined the Zonai Survey Team’s efforts to study the Ring Ruins of Kakariko Village. The ancient structures are fascinating, but what has captured Calip’s attention is the chasm in the forest on the hill. While Calip has been gazing into the abyss, however, the leader of the Zonai Survey Team has been gazing at him.

Summary:
"Nobody goes off alone down there, understand?"
Rated E for graphic violence and major character death, including of a minor. Doll Fic series, Under the Well.
Y'know, my usual kind of horror. I can't be too nice.

LINKTOBER DAY 18- zora’s domain!
Our duo comes across an old friend who’s currently under house arrest. Do they a) break him out, getting blacklisted from the Zora kingdom forever, or b) watch him burn out being the domain’s only built in water filter?
Either way. They have to make a choice.
(This au’s called Familiar Familiar! It’s a totk rewrite without the time travel.)
(Plus my patreon, if you wanna see scrapped ideas and my refs. Nosy nosy!)

Me, a fool: It would be cool if TOTK brought back old Zelda enemies!
Me, later: I take it back I take it back I take it back
Something about the hand shaped enemies in Zelda games give me the absolute heebie-jeebies. I hate them so much. They freak me out man, it’s legit bad for my heart!
So here’s an artistic interpretation of the first time I came across those damnable gloom floormasters in game. It was like every creepy hand enemy merged into one nightmarish abomination come to haunt me. Link almost met the goddesses that day…
See if you can spot all the references!

I’ve seen a few people talk about the importance of the axe, but I wanted to put my take on it out there too.
Lisa watched her mom get axe murdered, and then her life was uprooted. She had nobody there for her (except taffy but she was misguided). And this person comes along, one who knows her better than anyone, and uses an axe to kill someone right in front of her.
Tumblr media
Only this time, the axe is used to protect her. Something that destroyed her entire life is now being wielded by the one person she’s beginning to trust and feel seen and heard by.
And I don’t think it’s wrong for her to be thrilled and morbidly infatuated by this!!! Reclaiming and healing from trauma isn’t always pretty like everyone wants it to be, especially for young women and girls.
Tumblr media
The axe becomes something to protect her and get revenge on those who hurt her. People who were supposed to be good to her, that she THOUGHT were good to her, but betrayed her.
The axe is something that she now wields.
Tumblr media
She gets to reclaim it. She gets to trust someone again. She gets to feel loved, seen, and heard.
This movie is about reclaiming trauma as much as it is about a zombie love story!!!

Twilight Princess isn’t technically a horror game, and there’s a certain schmaltziness to its mid-2000s mall goth aesthetic. Still, Twilight Princess was the first video game I encountered that implied the hero is a murderer, and its strange and unsettling cutscenes serve as puzzle pieces that form a fragmented picture of Hyrule’s hidden history of prejudice, war, and genocide.
When Link confronts Ganondorf at the end of the game, Ganondorf meets his challenge with bitter irony and issues a warning – the cycle of bloodshed cannot be ended with violence. Link kills him anyway, and the cruelty of this act convinces Midna that it’s impossible for her to remain in Hyrule as an ethnic minority.
All of this went over my head when I first played Twilight Princess as a kid, but it really messed me up when I returned to the game as an adult. I’m still haunted by the dread that came from the realization that the fun desert dungeon where Link gets the cool spinner item is a mass graveyard.

okay okay okay i get the symbolism of link's cursed form being a wolf. i really do, and i love it so much. the whole "being noble but perceived as a monster" thing, i love it.
however, may i propose a fucked up wolf-creature instead.

When a non-horror game has a horror section, I often find it a little more effective or memorable than a full-on horror title's horror, in a way. I think that's because, for characters in fiction, they usually don't know they're about to experience a horror story, so they aren't mentally prepared at all. As the audience, we know that when we boot up Silent Hill, we're gonna see some scary stuff and can mentally prepare accordingly. But when some innocuous children's platformer or RPG or whatever suddenly throws genuine horror elements at me, I'm taken out of my comfort zone much more roughly since I don't expect it at all. I think that's neat :>
