Danmei and Baihe C Novels and Manhua Officially Licensed in English
Things are getting licensed fast enough that keeping a list like this up-to-date is basically impossible, but I saw someone asking in the tags so I figured I'd try. All titles are danmei unless otherwise noted (very little baihe is licensed so far). I've included Chinese titles, but sometimes publishers change the original titles so much that I can't track them down, apologies. I've hit the link limit on this post so I've had to remove NovelUpdate links, but they're still in the version of this post on Wordpress. Note that Taiwanese titles are not included on this list.
This is everything I know of as of December 11, 2024. There might be more. I tried. Resources used to compile this list: Danmeinews.com; this Carrd, last updated in March 2023; this other carrd last updated October 23 2024; list of danmei with official licenses on NovelUpdates; a similar list on Goodreads; danmei-specific list on Reddit that to my eye looks accurate for the larger publishers but isn't thorough for some of the smaller ones.
-
Seven Seas:
The full list of danmei novels licensed by Seven Seas is here. The full list of danmei manhua licensed by Seven Seas is here.
These titles are in various stages of publication, from "entire series released" to "license literally announced less than a week ago." As far as I know, all Seven Seas titles are available world-wide, through major distributors and libraries, and in e-book and print formats. Seven Seas translation quality varies but the editing is general strong and the editions are sturdy and nice. Note that Seven Seas isn't without controversy, especially for treating their contractors poorly resulting in them unionizing. Some people have also been unhappy with the fidelity of their translations compared to the original Chinese (I've been satisfied personally but ymmv).
Mo Xiang Tong Xiu titles:
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong)
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Mo Dao Zu Shi)

-
Rosmei:
Rosmei licenses are Singapore distribution rights only. There is a list of international partners organizing group orders here. I've personally placed my orders through Yiggybean, as discussed in reply to this ask. Most of these titles are only being released as print editions, tho titles that weren't originally on JJWXC (of which there are several here) WILL have e-book editions. My first book from Rosmei arrived, and I found the translation and editing to be very strong. I can't speak to how accurate it may be to the Chinese original, but it read smoothly and had very few errors. Overall, though they've made some mistakes, they've been communicative and responsive.
Huai Shang titles:
Breaking Through the Clouds (Po Yun)
Hunt for the Leviathan (Po Yun 2 Tun Hai)
Ning Yuan titles:
BAIHE: At the World's Mercy
BAIHE (I think???) The Creator's Grace

Peach Flower House:
Unfortunately, Peach Flower House has gone out of business. Peach Flower House titles were primarily for sale through their website and through some distributors, such as Amazon.com. Whether titles are e-book only, print only, or both varied by title. In my opinion, Peach Flower House has inconsistent inconsistent editing quality, but the books are very readable.
Da Feng Gua Guo:
The Imperial Uncle (Huang Shu)
Peach Blossom Debt (Taohua Zhai)
Other Titles:
Golden Terrace (Huang Jin Tai) by Cang Wu Bin Bai
In the Dark (Zai Hei An Zhong) by Jin Shisi Chai
Little Mushroom (Xiao Mogu) by Shisi
University of the Underworld (Yinjian Daxue) by Ziloi
-
Via Lactea:
The partial list of danmei novels licensed by Via Lactea is here, but there are titles I've seen them selling that aren't on this list.
Via Lactea titles are primarily for sale through their website and through some distributors, such as Amazon.com. All titles are either print-only or e-book + print. Only a handful have actually been released, the rest are licensed and presumably in progress. I've now read three titles published by Via Lactea and while the translations are decent I could wish the editing was more consistent. Everything reads as if it would have been improved by one more thorough proof read.
Jing Shui Bian Titles:
Salad Days (Jing Jiu)
Silent Hearts (Mo Mai)
Qing Lv Titles:
Painting Against the Natural Grain (Huahua Ben Shi Ni Tian Er Xing) by Qing Lv
Raising Myself in 2006 by Qing Lv

Aloha Comics:
A tiny, Hawaii-based press focusing on manhua. Titles are available through major retailers such as Amazon and Bookshop.org. I've purchased one of these titles - Nirvana in Fire - and was please with the quality despite a couple minor errors.
All these titles are manhua!
Day Off by Qing Cai
Heaven Official's Blessing Animation Manhua by Bilibili and Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (this is a manhua made based on the donghua, using donghua art)
Here U Are by DJUN
Link Click by Li Haoling and Haoliners (not technically danmei!)
Nirvana in Fire (Lang Ya Bang) by Hai Yan (not technically danmei!)
-
Monogatari Novels:
Monogatari Novels is based in Spain. These titles can also be ordered from at least some major retailers. Note that there has been some controversy about Monogatari Novels. I'm personally not ordering these works until more information is available.
Due to a lawsuit between Monogatari Novels and BLoved Publishing, How to Survive as a Villain and The Legendary Master's Wife are currently on hold.
BAIHE: A Clear and Muddy Loss of Love (Jing Wei Qing Shang) by Please Don't Laugh
BAIHE: Female General and Eldest Princess (NuJiangjun he Zhang Gongzhu) by Please Don't Laugh
How to Survive as a Villain (Chuan Yue Cheng Fanpai Yao Ru He Huo Ming) manhua by Yi Yi Yi Yi
The Legendary Master's Wife (Chuanshuo Zhi Zhu de Furen) by Yin Ya
The Silent Concubine (Ya Nu) by Qiang Tang
BAIHE: Soulmate manhua by Wenzhi Lizi
-
BLoved Publishing:
ngl I can't figure out exactly what is up with this, and there seems to be some controversy related to them and their relationship with Monogatari Novels. Their website is depressingly low on details. However, this list is for completeness, so here we are.
Due to a lawsuit between Monogatari Novels and BLoved Publishing, How to Survive as a Villain and The Legendary Master's Wife are currently on hold.
How to Survive as a Villain (Chuan Yue Cheng Fanpai Yao Ru He Huo Ming) manhua by Yi Yi Yi Yi
The Legendary Master's Wife (Chuanshuo Zhi Zhu de Furen) by Yin Ya
-
Chaleuria:
As far as I can tell, Chaleuria has not updated their webpage since April 2023, so the current status of in-progress titles is unknown. All titles are digital and/or e-book, and I'm not sure how to purchase them as I haven't tried.
The Complete Guide to the Use and Care of a Personal Assistant (Zhuli Shiyong Zhinan) by Why Radiance
Deep in the Act (Ru Xi) by Tongzi
Fake Slackers (Wei Zhuang Xue Zha) by Mu Gua Huang (no longer available)

World Hopping: Avenge Our Love (Ni Wufa Yuliao de Fenshou, Wo Du Neng Gei Ni Song Shang) by Xiaomao Bu Ai Jiao (no longer available)
-
Webnovel:
When I first made this list, I heard that Webnovel had a few titles but couldn't actually find them - but now I've found them, thanks to a list someone else put together. I'm including direct links to them, since I had so much trouble finding them at all.
Comrade: Almost a Cat-astrophic Love Story (Jintian ye Yao Nuli Dang Zhimao) by Demonic Fire (link)
My Boyfriend is a Dragon (Nanpiao Shi Tiaolong) by Chubby Strawberry Sauce (link)
The National Sweetheart Livestreamer is a Pro! (Quanmin Zhubo Shi Duiba) by Mo Shang Wang (link)
-
Honorable Mentions:
There are a handful of titles I know of that are official translations of C Novels. These are not books with contextual queerness, but for folks with an interest in Chinese history and culture, they are worth checking out anyway, especially because understanding these stories can help understand the above books. Also, some have active shipping fandoms (for example, I've written for Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Daomu Biji). I've included two above under the entry for titles from Aloha Comics (Link Click and Nirvana in Fire) and here are a couple others I currently know of:
Dream of the Red Chamber (Hong Lou Meng) by Cao Xueqin, available in translation for free from Project Gutenberg
The Grave Robbers’ Chronicles (Daomu Biji) by Nanpai Sanshu (six volumes are available in English from Things Asian Press)
Journey to the West (Xiyou Ji) by Wu Cheng-en, in four volumes from University of Chicago Press
The Legend of the Condor Heroes (She Diao Yingxiong Chuan) by Jin Yong, in four volumes from St. Martin’s Press
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo Yanyi), attributed to Luo Guanzhong, available in translations for free from Archive.org
The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants (Zonglie Xiayi Chuan), attributed to Shi Yukun, available in translation for free from Archive.org
Water Margin (Shuihu Zhuan) by Shi Nai’an, from Tuttle Publishing
RESOURCE: List of Chinese speculative fiction in English translation
RESOURCE: More Chinese speculative fiction in English translation
I will add to the "Honorable Mentions" list if I find any other more mainstream titles with official translations.

Rumored Licenses:
Sometimes, I hear rumors about titles being licensed before the license is announced - and thus before we know which publisher has licensed them (assuming the rumor is even true). I thought I should note these somewhere. Titles I know of rumors about currently are:
A Certain Someone (Moumou) by Mu Su Li
Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know (Mozun Ye Xiang Zhidao) by Cyan Wings (a Spanish edition of this has been formally announced, which might account for the rumor)
The Fourteenth Year of Chenghua (Chenghua Shisi Nian) by Meng Xi Shi
Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating (Wanglian Fanche Zhinan) by Jiang Zi Bei
Immortal Koi is Going to Debut (Jinli Daxian Yao Chudao) by Mo Xi Ke
Mist (Bowu) by Wei Feng Ji Xu
-
A handful of other licenses are mentioned on the Carrd I linked at the beginning of this post; I have no idea the status of those titles and wasn't able to find information on them while putting together this post other than what was listed on that Carrd, so I've omitted them.
Now go forth, and buy some books!

Dynasty Warriors Weapon Moveset Power Rankings Tier List
With all the weapon movesets analysed and ranked, here is a summary tier list I've made of all the rankings. You can make your own weapon tier list on Tiermaker out of all movesets from 3 to 9.
Weapons with orange background show the characters who maintained their EX weapon from 7 to 8 while weapons with a golden background show the characters who had their weapons changed in or before 8 along with new characters in that game. Yueying's bladebow uses the image from 6 because the creator forgot to add the one for 8.
The ranking summary is after the break.

谢谢你听过我唱过的这些歌 / Xie Xie Ni Ting Guo Wo Chang Guo De Zhe Xie Ge (40 OST compilation by Zhou Shen), 晚安,明天见 / Good Night, See You Tomorrow online concert on TME Live
Zhou Shen: Every time I perform, many people ask, “Zhou Shen, why do you always sing other people’s songs?” One reason I’m afraid to sing my own songs when I’m onstage is that people might not have heard it before, and that I’d be wasting their time listening to me sing. That’s why on most occasions, whether it’s a performance or in a show, I usually pick songs people are more familiar with to perform. So this is a very brave attempt from me, to have people listen to nothing but my songs on such a massive streaming platform – frankly I’m very afraid that midway through, people will go, “oh, I’ve not heard this before, how boring” and then leave. This thought has always been there: if one day I sing only my own songs onstage, will anyone listen? […] I’m really grateful to have this chance to thank all the movies and shows for their trust, which gave me so many chances and let me meet all my fans and the people who like listening to me sing. That’s why I made all the OSTs I’ve sung over the years into one song, and titled it “Thank you for these songs you heard me sing”. Hopefully, you’ll have heard at least one of them, or maybe it’ll remind you – oh, I think I’ve heard this song before, and the one who sang it is Zhou Shen. I hope you’ll like this song, and listen to the end of it.
Full song list below cut, in order of appearance:
0:00 to 7:38: 浓情淡如你 Nong Qing Dan Ru Ni / 何处是天涯 He Chu Shi Tian Ya / 荒城渡 Huang Cheng Du / 此生惟你 Ci Sheng Wei Ni / 独白 Du Bai / 天地为念 Tian Di Wei Nian / 曾经沧海 Ceng Jing Cang Hai / 情意结 Qing Yi Jie / 缘落 Yuan Luo / 昙花一现雨及时 Tan Hua Yi Xian Yu Ji Shi / 梅香如故 Mei Xiang Ru Gu / 放鹤图 Fang He Tu / 落花 Luo Hua / 影 Ying / 缘起 Yuan Qi / 念 Nian
7:39 to 12:37: 不说话 Bu Shuo Hua / 没有说完的故事 Mei You Shuo Wan De Gu Shi / 愿得一心人 Yuan De Yi Xin Ren / 回声 Hui Sheng / 渴望遇见 Ke Wang Yu Jian / 启示 Qi Shi / 直破苍穹 Zhi Po Cang Qiong / 海藏 Hai Zang / 东游 Dong You / 青春有悔 Qing Chun You Hui
12:38 to 18:56: 黎明的翅膀 Li Ming De Chi Bang / 水形物语 Shui Xing Wu Yu / 蜕 Tui / 随风 Sui Feng / 拙慕 Zhuo Mu / 愿 Yuan / 大鱼 Da Yu / 触不可及 Chu Bu Ke Ji / 不再流浪 Bu Zai Liu Lang / 无关 Wu Guan / 来不及勇敢 Lai Bu Ji Yong Gan / 雪花落下 Xue Hua Luo Xia / 小小 Xiao Xiao / 避难所 Bi Nan Suo (Sanctuary)
#zhou shen#music#19 minutes straight....... it's nuts#none of those songs are easy to sing#also the fact that there's both a 缘起 and 缘落 is very satisfying to me

I finished a new novel so you know what that means!
Romantic - Fucky is not how risque a work is but rather my opinion of the attitude/quality of the main relationship, the way the characters interact with respect to one another. I like a lot of stuff in fiction but if you’re easily made uncomfortable, stay towards the top half.
Easy reading - Plot-heavy is how I personally consider the plot’s intricacy and successful implementation, regardless of the author’s intention.
Fox Demon Cultivation Manual
Author: Feng Ge Qie Xing
Quality: 8
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: This was a delightful romp. I had expected it to be somewhat silly and was pleasantly surprised. It was heavy enough to be engaging but light enough to be an easy read, with multiple spots that made me literally laugh out loud which does not happen often. This is apparently just one book in a series of same universe novels, and a lighter-hearted one at that. I would be interested to read the others because I found the world pretty engaging, and I do want to know what became of the other characters. Overall I found it very fun and very cute, I read it in four days so that says something. On the downside, the link for chapter 9 is broken. But skipping a chapter doesn't seem to have affected the experience of the novel as a whole.
Would I read it again: Yeah I think I would be willing to read this again someday. If it gets adapted I would also consume adaptations, in addition to being interested in the other connected works.
The reviews of things I previously read are below the cut.
Mo Dao Zu Shi
Author: MXTX
Quality: 9.5
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: I have a huge emotional connection to this novel. There are some weak parts, the tension isn’t quite even, she’s pretty terrible at erotic scenes and not great at fight scenes…but that being said, I love the characters and some of the plot points really ripped my heart out. This is a novel that’s really driven by the characters so if you’re a character-focused person like me, definitely look into it (as if we all don’t already know it lmao). I really, really love this story. Every single adaptation of it has also been great, but the novel is still my favorite. It was my introduction to xianxia novels too, so you can say it changed my life!
Would I read it again: I’ve already read it twice, and consumed every adaptation (sometimes also multiple times)
Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System
Author: MXTX
Quality: 6
Enjoyment: 5
Comments: I’m not much of one for comedy and, as I discovered, not really into system novels either. Clearly weaker than MXTX’s later work, many of the characters are somewhat bland, she hasn’t quite found her groove yet. It’s not my style but the fandom is hilarious and the fans constantly produce content that I actually do find entertaining so overall I still have some fond feelings for this one, even if not for the source material.
Would I read it again: I found a different translation and am willing to try again in the future, I’m also willing to watch the donghua. But I can’t guarantee I’ll like it any more than previously.
Tian Guan Ci Fu
Author: MXTX
Quality: 10
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: I love this book…but not as much as I love Mo Dao Zu Shi. I think the plot is somewhat typical, however the characters are great once again (though maybe slightly less deep than MDZS), and her use of thematic repetition and foreshadowing are killer. Actually, I liked this book more the second time around because it just hits differently. Definitely the best of MXTX’s couples, they are so soft and sweet. Very long, but worth it.
Would I read it again: I already have, was personally translating the manhua before I hurt my arms, and am eagerly awaiting the donghua this fall!
The Villain’s White Lotus Halo
Author: A Big Roll of Toilet Paper
Quality: 10
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: Fuck, I love this one so much…..even though it’s also a system novel. But that part is in it so rarely that it reads more like pure fantasy. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love the way the relationship is developing. Oh yeah, the translation isn’t even complete but I already purchased not only the original from JJWXC but also the print edition. I’ve even drawn fanart for it, which is so unlike me. Every time a chapter comes out, I’m ruined for the rest of the day, I can’t think about anything else. Good fight scenes, which is uncommon. My favorite danmei novel so far.
Would I read it again: I fully intend to once the translation is complete, and also plan to read it in Chinese later (I’ve already read certain parts in Chinese hahaha but not the whole thing)
2Ha (Husky and his White Cat Shizun)
Author: Meatbun Doesn’t Eat Meat
Quality: 8
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: 2Ha is not for the faint of heart, it’s very horny, and violent, and has a lot of questionable content. However I love it so much. The story and characters are great, Meatbun really has me by the heart. The writing is a little more on the casual side but it hardly matters because the story is so great. Good fight scenes. Chu Wanning is like, the ultimate Me™ character, I hate how much I adore him. If you read this, just go into it knowing that it’s a long emotional journey, the characters are very dynamic and there’s a lot of character development.
Would I read it again: Same as the above, I plan a reread when the translation is done and have read parts in Chinese and might read the whole thing again later. Cautiously eager about the up-coming live action and donghua.
Di Wang Gong Lue
Author: Yu Xiao Lanshan
Quality: 2
Enjoyment: 9
Comments: This is one of the most terribly written things I’ve ever read, but I’m a character girl and the characters and ways they interact fucking kill me. I’m constantly entertained….although I don’t think this is actually supposed to be a comedy. If I were going to treat myself and like, take a bubble bath and read something that made me laugh, this is exactly the sort of trashy romance I would want to read. Technically a political intrigue story but it’s so abrupt and full of holes, are any of us reading it for the actual plot? The donghua is on Youtube, I watched it first and recommend others to do the same. If you can handle that, you can handle the book because it’s exactly the same in quality, just gayer. I do love the main couple a lot, the set-up surrounding the relationship is great, and the side characters are also really fun.
Would I read it again: Probably not, but I’m still having fun with it. I watched the donghua and read a bit of the manhua as well, which has very cute art and is probably my favorite version of the story.
Liu Yao
Author: Priest
Quality: 6
Enjoyment: 7.5
Comments: I really struggled getting into this one, it took me about 25 chapters to get invested. Initially I had rated it a 6 in enjoyment but after careful thought, I realized that even though it was so hard for me, it probably is my favorite Priest novel and I really do love the main couple so much. Her side characters also seem to be slightly stronger than usual in this one. Decent plot, not too much or too little. It seems really chill to me, doesn’t provoke much of an emotional reaction but I do think it’s very sweet, which is nice sometimes too.
Would I read it again: No, but I think (?) it’s supposed to get some kind of tv adaptation (drama or donghua, not sure), and if that happens, I’ll watch it.
Didn’t Know the General was Female
Author: Rong Qing
Quality: 4
Enjoyment: 6
Comments: Not the greatest thing I’ve ever read, but cute. It’s short, and a little lesbian fluff is never a bad thing. Writing is a bit weak and the plot is basic, but the characters are enjoyable and I liked it overall.
Would I read it again: No.
Wrong Way to a Demon Sect Leader
Author: Yi Zhi Dayan
Quality: 4
Enjoyment: 7
Comments: Again, not the greatest in writing or plot, it’s a bit shallow. But I found the idea of it to be entertaining, and actually liked it more than I would have assumed. It’s fairly short and cute, like a good summer beach read.
Would I read it again: Probably not, but possibly, if the stars align.
Female General and Eldest Princess
Author: Please Don’t Laugh
Quality: 7
Enjoyment: 6
Comments: A very good first effort, but the writing is a bit weak. It’s slow to start and I don’t think the political plotline is spectacularly strong. Some things were left unexplained, and her sense of battle tactics and fight-writing were very confusing, definitely room for improvement. I don’t think it’s as good as people say, but she writes with the air of someone who will continue to improve. And also, a lesbian author writing lesbian stories so that’s a plus. Overall I enjoyed the experience, this story is definitely worth a read.
Would I read it again: Maybe, but probably not.
Sha Po Lang
Author: Priest
Quality: 7
Enjoyment: 7
Comments: Originally I rated this one higher, but on later thought I realized that I actually enjoyed Liu Yao more. I personally have issues with the way Priest writes, and this book showed a lot of them. Characters were okay, I did like the main couple, but side characters were weak as usual. The plot is pretty good, though not great, and I think some of the pacing is off. Some descriptions were confusing, but that could be a translation issue. Overall, still a pretty good political drama, but I would say that of the three I read, this was the Priest novel with the least impact on me.
Would I read it again: No. But I will watch the live action if it ever gets made.
Guardian
Author: Priest
Quality: 6
Enjoyment: 5
Comments: I love Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan, thought the plot was interesting, and there were some enjoyable moments. But it has all the problems I usually have with Priest in addition to some choices that offend me as a queer reader. I spent about 75% of the time reading while pissed off. And actually the fact that it had a happy ending kinda bummed me out because I love a good tragedy. Overall, I can only give it an average score. If you like Priest, you’ll like this one too. I’m not a tv person but I binged the hell out of the live action, I really loved it, so I was sort of disappointed that the source material didn’t seem as strong as I had assumed.
Would I read it again: No, but I will happily watch the live action again some day.
Jing Wei Qing Shang
Author: Please Don’t Laugh
Quality: 9.8
Enjoyment: 10
Comments: I have to start off by saying: damn girl. The improvement evident in this book is absolutely insane. A few minor issues prevent me from giving it a 10 out of 10 – her transitions are still extremely abrupt, the ending is slightly weak and some plot points remain unresolved, and her use of narrative repetition is too heavy-handed for my taste. Other than that, this book leaves me almost speechless. Very similar to Female General and Eldest Princess, there are many similar themes and events. But while I thought FGEP was fairly cute, I like this one way better. If you like angst, political intrigue, and lesbians, you should definitely read this book. I have no doubt that Please Don’t Laugh will continue to improve in the future, and I really look forward to following her career.
Would I read it again: 100%, I absolutely intend to read this again sometime in the future. It’s very long and very dense but delightful and ultimately worth it.

Clouds and Rain: a (snarky) Character Index
I lured @math-is-magic into trying to read Clouds and Rain despite no prior knowledge of the Three Kingdoms era generally and she professed being impressed at how, long long ago when I read Romance of the Three Kingdoms for the first time, I made my own character glossary to keep track of who is who.
CAVEAT LECTOR: Historically accurate only to the degree that it pleases my pedantry. Departs from Dynasty Warriors in some key areas. Limited to characters that have (so far) appeared in the story directly.
Wu aka Sun Wu - Jiangdong - The Southlands
Colour Scheme? Red Animal Motif? Tiger Part of China? Southeast third, from the Yangtze (more or less) down, west about halfway. Heat, rivers, pirates, rice, fish. Motivation? Bonds Hearts? ON FIRE Enemy Camps? ALSO ON FIRE
Sun Quan, ruler of Wu, style name Zhongmou: Wow, who died and left this loser to rule? Well, that’s the problem, everybody died and left this loser to rule. Ever so slightly neurotic. *coughs* Kind of my problematic fave. Thinks everybody in Shu is out to get him. (Everybody in Shu IS out to get him.) Lianshi: Technically she ought to be Lady Bu but since Dynasty Warriors didn’t bother neither did I. Former lady-in-waiting to Sun Quan’s sister, nicest woman you’ll ever meet, Sun Quan is her problematic fave. Big ol’ tiddies. Lu Xun, Wu chancellor, style name Boyan: OUR HERO. 92.3% perfect gentleman and Confucian af. Gan Ning, Wu officer: Adorable kitten thinks of nothing but murder all day. Former pirate, semi-reformed psychopath. WEARS BELLS, it’s his thing. Used to be in the employ of another army, during which time he kinda sorta killed the father of... Ling Tong, Wu officer: Rich kid who made good in his own right. Wanted to kill Gan Ning for a long time (in revenge for his father’s death) but has mostly gotten over it and now they are best frenemies. (Note to history buffs: just GET OUT of here with your FACTS.) Shield of laziness and apathy. “I don’t care,” says Ling Tong, caringly, as he cares deeply. Zhou Tai, Wu officer: Sun Quan’s personal bodyguard. Former pirate. Tall, dark, and... scarred. Well, two out of three isn’t bad. The strong silent type. Zhu Ran, Wu officer: Lu Xun used to be Wu’s pyromaniac character. Then they introduced Zhu Ran to be the pyromaniac and actually made Lu Xun well-rounded, and Zhu Ran is slightly bitter about it. Also a Rich Kid. (Is Wu’s army all rich kids and pirates???? MAYBE.) Ding Feng, Wu officer: One-note character who looks like Frankenstein’s monster and writes poetry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Han Dang, Wu officer: One-note character who doesn’t want to be forgotten. Forget about him. Sun Shangxiang: Sun Quan’s younger sister, famous/infamous for being wild about martial arts and just generally wild. Arranged married to... (hold this thought...)
Shu aka Shu Han
Colour scheme? Green Animal motif? Dragon Part of China? At this point, the west-southwest. Smallest/least prosperous. Motivation? BENEVOLENCE Really? YES OF COURSE, BENEVOLENCE AND ONLY BENEVOLENCE. Pay no attention to the man behind the crane fan. What’s benevolence? 仁 Ren. Confucius says... no, come back, this isn’t a joke! Confucius really does say! Confucius says: Now the man of perfect virtue, wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others; wishing to be enlarged himself, he seeks also to enlarge others. What’s that guy doing over there behind the crane fan? NOTHING!!
Liu Bei, ruler of Shu: He was arranged married to Sun Shangxiang! (I hope you didn’t hurt yourself holding that thought.) Tenuously related to the imperial family but grew up poor af. Charismatic as hell. Wants to tell you the Good News about Benevolence. Liu Shan, crown prince, aka A-Dou: Unspecified, serious intellectual disability. Bears zero resemblance to the Dynasty Warriors version. Affectionate, gentle young man. Gets along really well with Zhao Yun and Sun Shangxiang. Zhuge Liang, prime minister of Shu, chief strategist, style name Kongming, Taoist name Crouching Dragon: The smuggest of snakes. He has a crane fan and he isn’t afraid to use it. Likes: his wife, his lord, his plans, sex magic, being an asshole. "I meant to do that,” he whispers, calmly, while falling at terminal velocity into a pit of vipers. Yueying aka Lady Huang, inventor: Zhuge Liang’s wife. Unspecified not neurotypical. Likes: machines, her husband. Dislikes: people, distractions, social cues. Very little resemblance to Dynasty Warriors character. Zhang Fei, Shu officer: Liu Bei’s sworn brother dating back to when they all weren’t shit, along with the dead Guan Yu. Designated youngest brothers because in Chinese culture it is Absolutely Vital We Know Who Is Older. Big, burly, loveable drunk. (Again, do NOT confuse me with the facts.) Zhang Bao, Shu officer: Zhang Fei’s son. Young and unproven and determined. Grew up with Guan Yu’s children as pseudo-cousins. Xingcai aka Lady Zhang, Shu officer: Zhang Fei’s younger child. Xingcai is not here to make friends or play games. Xingcai is here to win. Unfortunately for Xingcai, her society dictates that ladylike behaviour means making friends and playing (diplomatic) games, not winning (on the battlefield). Guan Xing, Shu officer: The oldest natural child of Guan Yu. Honour, righteousness, honour, honour, rules, benevolence, honour, rules, and honour. Guan Suo, Shu officer: Youngest son of Guan Yu. In the wake of his father’s death, passive and disheartened. Guan Yinping: Youngest child of Guan Yu. Our heroine! Strong, sweet, determined, and genuine. Zhao Yun, Shu officer: One of Liu Bei’s first and best recruits to his cause. Famous for having single-handedly rescued Liu Shan as a baby while they were fleeing Cao Cao, fighting with the infant on his back. Madam Zhao aka Yunlu aka Lulu: Zhao Yun’s much younger wife, the sister of another officer in Shu, for some mysterious reason her identity is a (badly kept) secret, WHO could she POSSIBLY be? (People who know the answer: shhhhh.) Ma Chao, “the Splendid”: A multi-ethnic officer of Shu who joined because of wanting revenge against Cao Cao for the massacre of his clan. Yes, Ma Chao is Shu’s Sasuke. Catchphrase: JUSTICE. Ma Dai, “the guy who hangs out with Ma Chao”: Ma Chao’s cousin, trails along after Ma Chao trying to keep him from getting himself justiced to death. Wears the only non-stupid hat in Dynasty Warriors. An artist and a joker. Wei Yan, Shu officer: Speaks... like... this... why?... Unclear... maybe... head... injury...
Wei aka Cao Wei
Colour scheme? Blue Animal motif? Phoenix Part of China? The entire north, from the coast to the west, including the cities with the strongest claim to be imperial capital in that time. Motivation? Ambition and power Isn’t that slightly evil? I mean, not necessarily, but they’re the antagonists so in fact yes. So they don’t get the same revisionism deal as the other two kingdoms? Nope. Is that fair? Nope! Show me on the map where I store my fucks.
Cao Pi, ruler and self-proclaimed emperor: I genuinely have a grievance against the historical guy but he was no worse than most of the rest of the people here. But in this story, the fictional Cao Pi is a supreme douchebag. Zhenji, empress: Too good for Cao Pi and this world. Don’t mistake my meaning; also kind of a bitch. A perfect bitch whom I would die for. Sima Yi, Wei prime minister: Genius strategist. Did not even originally want to join the Ambition Kingdom, but has caught the spirit in a big way now. Zhang Chunhua: Sima Yi’s wife, pulls the strings, literally. Thinks all problems can be solved with enough murders. Don’t think I’m saying she’s a bitch and I don’t like her. She’s a bitch, and I like her so much. Zhang He, Wei officer: Could host Queer Eye for the Third Century Guy. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. Came to Wei from the same place as Zhenji and they are besties. Li Dian, Wei officer: Has a gut sense about things which is always right, unfortunately doesn’t stop things from happening, poor babe. A nice guy. Yue Jin, Wei officer: Smol and insecure about it, despite the fact that he could fuck you up. He can fuck anyone up. He can fuck himself up. BFF with Li Dian. Also a nice guy. Wang Yi, Wei officer: Hey remember how Cao Cao killed Ma Chao’s entire clan? Well while Ma Chao was attempting to get his revenge against Cao Cao, he whoopsy-doodle massacred Wang Yi’s entire clan. Now Wang Yi dreams of dancing with Ma Chao’s severed head in the moonlight. Xu Shu, Wei officer: Sad man who got tricked into leaving Shu because he loves his mama. Tries his best and deserved none of this. Jia Xu, Wei strategist: Loyal only to himself and shrewd, was an enemy strategist who came very near to killing Cao Cao at one time, but accepted being hired by him when he was captured. Does believe in doing his best.
And (I think) that’s everybody! Whee! I hope all three of you who read this enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Annals of Taizong of Wei, Part 1
[Aka Emperor Mingyuan, aka Tuoba Si. The practice of killing the heir to the throne’s mother, rather than being an old Tuoba tradition, seems in fact to have been invented by none other than Taizu of Wei, Tuoba Gui.
There were no great wars during the Yongxing era (409-413), but there were several minor troubles, especially in Bingzhou.
Elsewhere Feng Ba kills Gao Yun to enthrone himself in 409, his state is usually known as Northern Yan. In 410 Liu Yu destroys Murong Chao and Southern Yan.
From WS002. The original Scroll 2 of Wei Shou’s Weishu has been lost. The received WS002 was copied from Wei Dan’s Weishu, written during the Sui. The Annals of Taizong in Scroll 1 of Li Yanshou’s Beishi (BS) has a few entries not present in the current WS002, I have added these in brackets.]
The Grand Ancestor [taizong], the Clarifying and Inaugurating [mingyuan] August Emperor, taboo Si, was Taizu's oldest son. His mother was named Worthy Lady Liu. In the 7th Year of Dengguo [392 AD], he was born at the Yunzhong Palace. Taizu was late with having a son. He heard and then was greatly pleased. Therefore there were a great amnesty Under Heaven.
The Emperor was bright, far-sighted, large-minded and resolute, and did not act without propriety. Taizu considerably marvelled about him. In the 6th Year of Tianxing [403 AD], he was enfeoffed King of Qi, and designated Chancellor of State, concurrently Great General of Chariots and Cavalry.
Earlier, the Emperor's mother, the Worthy Lady Liu, had been bestowed death. Taizu informed the Emperor, saying:
Formerly when Emperor Wu of Han was about to establish his son, he then killed his mother, to not cause the Lady to later join with the state's government affairs, and cause the in-law family to make chaos. You will continue the government, for that reason I am far-reaching similar to Wu of Han, making plans for long long times.
The Emperor was habitually pure and filial, he mournfully wept and was not able to overcome himself. Taizu was angry with him. The Emperor returned to the palace, he mourned and did not stop himself, day and night he wailed and wept. Taizu knew and again summoned him. The Emperor wished to enter. Left and right said:
A filial son in serving his father, if it is a small cudgel he accepts, a great cudgel he avoids it. Now His Majesty is totally furious, entering is sometimes unfathomable, trapping the Emperor in unrighteousness. It is not as good moreover as setting out, wait for the anger to loosen and then advance. It is not too late.
The Emperor was afraid, and followed it. He therefore drifted and travelled to escape to the outside.
[Yongxing 1, 1 February 409 – 19 February 410]
6th Year of Tianci, Winter, 10th Month [25 October – 22 November], the King of Qinghe, Shao, made treason. Taizu expired. The Emperor entered and executed Shao.
On renshen [10 November, BS01: renwu, 20 November], he was enthroned as August Emperor. A great amnesty. Changed the year to be the First Year of Eternal Fostering [yongxing]. Posthumously venerated the August Late Mother as the Proclaiming and Majestic [xuanmu] August Empress. Of those nobles, ministers and great subjects who previously had retired and returned to their mansions to not join in with the court and government, he thoroughly restored, promoted and employed them. Decreed the Duke of Nanping, Zhangsun Song, and the Marquis of Songbei, An Tong to address and manage the people's litigations, select the worthy and rely on the able, and common laws for relationship quickly put in order.
Intercalary 10th Month, dinghai [25 November], the King of Zhuti, Yue, planned rebellion and was bestowed death.
Decreed the General of Zheng Troops, the Marquis of Shanyang, Xi Jin to tour and travel the various provinces, inquire into the people's ills and hardships, and console and relieve the impoverished and poor.
12th Month, wuxu [4 February], enfeoffed the King of Wey, Yi's son Liang as King of Nanyang. The Duke of Yinping, Yuan Lie, was advanced in feudal rank to be a king. The King of Gaoliang, Lezhen, changed fief to King of Pingyang.
On jihai [5 February], the Emperor first resided in the Western Palace and presided at the the Heavenly Patterns Hall.
The Ruanruan violated the frontier.
This Year, Qifu Qiangui occupied Jincheng and declared himself King of Qin. Gao Yun was wiped out by the ocean barbarian Feng Ba. Ba usurped the title, and declared himself Heavenly King of Great Yan.
[Yongxing 2, 20 February 410 – 8 February 411]
2nd Year, Spring, 1st Month, jiayin [20 February], New Moon, decreed the Duke of Nanping, Zhangsun Song to attack north against the Ruanruan. [BS01: Because of that kept garrisons south of the desert.]
The people of Pingyang, Huang Miao and others, relied on the Fen to strengthen themselves, and accepted Yao Xing's official titles. The Inspector of Bing province, Yuan Liutou, chastised and pacified them.
2nd Month, guiwei [21 March], New Moon, decreed General Yu Lidi to lead 10 000 infantry and cavalry to headquarter at Pingyang.
Summer, 5th Month [18 June – 17 July], Zhangsun Song and others returned from the Great Desert. The Ruanruan pursued to besiege them at Niuchuan.
On renshen [8 July], the Emperor went on a northern attack. The Ruanruan heard, and escaped and ran. The Chariot Drove to return to favour Chanhe Slope.
Autumn, 7th Month, dingsi [22 August], erected a horse shooting terrace to the west of the Slope, to continue military exercises and teach battle.
On yichou [30 August], the Chariot Drove to arrive from the northern attack.
8th Month [15 September – 13 October], Liu Ya of the people of Zhangwu assembled a multitude in rebellion. The Marquis of Shanyang, Xi Jin, chastised and pacified him.
9th Month, jiayin [18 October], buried the Grand Founder [taizu], the Proclaiming and Martial [xuanwu] August Emperor at Shengle's Golden Mound [jinling].
Winter, 12th Month, xinsi [14 November], decreed General Zhou Guan to lead the multitudes to go to Lishi in Xihe, and quell and console the Mountain Hu.
This Year, Sima Dezong's general Liu Yu wiped out Murong Chao at Guanggu.
[Yongxing 3, 9 February 411 – 29 January 412]
3rd Year, Spring, 2nd Month, wuxu [31 March], a decree said:
When clothes and food are sufficient, [one] understand honour and disgrace. As for when people, starving and freezing, cut themselves, it is only in fear that, morning and evening, there is no relief. The critical needs are warmth and eating ones fill, that is all. Where is the leisure to catch up with the affairs of humaneness and righteousness? The many disobediences to the kingly teachings are probably caused by this. If not husbands ploughs and wives weaves, inside and outside completing each other, how thereby are families well provided and people have sufficient. Thus select the palace women that are not being approached and hold on to and raise up the talented and skilful [?]. From the remainder thoroughly send out to thereby pair with the unmarried among the people.
On jihai [1 April], decreed the Marquis of Beixin, An Tong, and others, to Hold the Tally and tour and travel Bing and Ding provinces, and the mixed Hu and Dingling living in the various mountains, to inquire into their ills and hardships, and examine and expose wardens and stewards who were unlawful. Thus those who had been unjustly impoverished and lost their posts, whose strengths and weaknesses had infringed on each other [?], who were alone, humble and unable to survive on their own, each accordingly had their affairs heard.

Anons on 4chan, especially /eagg/, thinks that you have massive irrational hatred for Shu
No one gives a fuck what anyone on 4chan thinks.
For the not 4chan crowd who might think the same thing: not so.
It’s true that I don’t like most of the DW Shu characters. They’re not good characters. Guan Yu, Liu Bei, Zhao Yun, and Zhuge Liang are badly written and extremely irritating. Huang Zhong is one-note and bland. The liberties taken with Ma Chao, Zhang Fei, and Wei Yan deeply bother me (Wei Yan’s for different reasons than the other two). Bao Sanniang, Guan Ping, Guan Su, Guan Xing, Xu Shu, Zhang Bao, and Zhou Cang have no reason to exist in these games at all.
Irrational implies I don’t have a reason for disliking these people. That’s simply not the case. I can give you clear reasons why I dislike all of the above. And I’m always happy to explain how I think such characters could be improved. But those complaints don’t just apply to the Shu cast.
Cao Pi, Xu Huang, Zhen Ji, Lu Meng, Taishi Ci, Zhu Ran, Wang Yuanji, Zhuge Dan, and Yuan Shao, are more bland, one-note characters like Huang Zhong. Xu Chu’s depiction is as insulting as Wei Yan’s. Sun Quan, Xiahou Ba, Wen Yang, and Chen Gong are irritating at BEST. Gan Ning’s depiction is downright offensive, given the actions of his historical counterpart. The Qiao sisters, Zhang Jue, and Zuo Ci just shouldn’t be. And these are just the complaints that come off the top of my head.
It’s absolutely true that I don’t like the vast majority of the Shu characters. But them being part of the Shu faction has nothing to do with it. I think the reason so many of them are in the same group is that the Shu plotline, in particular, sticks very close to the traditional fiction - and I don’t like the traditional story. The other factions get much farther away from that version of events.
And for the historical kingdom of Shu, I have just as much respect for them as I do for Wei, Wu, and Jin. There were many virtuous and talented people who served Shu.
Lady Gan, Liu Xuan, Zhuge Zhan, Dong Jue, Huang Zhong, Fa Zheng, Pang Tong, Xu Jing, Jian Yong, Dong He, Ma Liang, Liu Ba, Dong Yun, Chen Zhi, Liu Feng, Li Yan, Wei Yan, Huo Jun, Huo Yi, Luo Xian, Xiang Lang, Huang Quan, Li Hui, Wang Ping, Ma Zhong, Zhang Ni, Liao Hua, Zhang Ni, Jiang Wan, and Fei Yi are all people I can list off the top of my head. And I’d say that I’m probably more fond of Ma Su than most Shu fans.
But how many of those people are in these games? Perhaps three or four. That’s the problem. The people who deserve the credit and praise don’t receive it. Instead, worship is heaped upon far less worthy people while Shu’s true heroes are ignored.

So I thought I’d share some DW9 weapon theories? This is basically about what weapons might be changed and what might not be changed. The only weapons I have to work with are the ones that have already been revealed, so this is basically a list of possible clones and not clones. I will also be operating under the assumption that no more than 3 characters will have the same weapon. SHU Huang Zhong - Dao Blade. It’s the weapon he used to have after all, and since bow weapons are being removed, I doubt he’ll be getting his bow back. Wei Yan - Double-Bladed Voulge. Since Cheng Pu has this weapon and even a couple of Wei Yan’s attacks, it’s safe to assume this will be his weapon as well. Pang Tong - Staff. Not a Bo Staff, but Zhang Jiao’s staff. Now I know they’re veering away from more outlandish weapons but since I can’t imagine Zhang Jiao without a magic staff, I feel like he’ll still have it and since Pang Tong used to also have a magic staff, he might also have this weapon in place of his weird flyswatter thing. Liu Shan - Rapier. Pretty easy guess, since that was his weapon up until DW8 Empires. No way is he getting that stupid bench back lol Guan Suo - Nunchaku. Again, pretty much a no-brainer. Had them up until Empires, and I can’t imagine the sabatons will be returning, honestly. Bao Sanniang - Chakrams. There’s absolutely no chance her yoyo is coming back and since the Chakrams are visually the closest to that, it seems like a sensible choice. Xu Shu - Fencing Sword. At least that’s how his sword is listed. I always thought rapiers were fencing swords. Anyway, I can see his sword coming back, just without the hook. It’s a elegant and fluid fighting style, which fits right in with the gameplay we’ve seen. Guan Xing - Short Pike. I think it could fit him pretty well, at least better than the wingblades. And it’d be somewhat reminiscent of Guan Yu. Fa Zheng - Whip Sword. Seems like it would fit his character really well, being of a more sinister demeanor than the rest of Shu. And it is vaguely similar to his cloth. WEI Xu Huang - Battle Axe. Obviously. Deng Ai’s revealed more or less confirmed that. Cao Ren - Flail. It’s what he used to have in DW7 and it’s still in the game as evidenced by Dong Zhuo’s reveal. I just don’t think his shield will really fit with the overall theme that they’re going for with the weapons this time around. Pang De - Wolf Teeth Mace. Again, this is basically confirmed since Guan Yinping has this weapon and it was the weapon he was most recently given. CaI Wenji - Twin Fans. Since Zhenji’s flute was removed, I doubt Wenji’s harp will be sticking around. This was a tough one, but out of all the revealed weapons I’d say this suits her the most. Provided that the move set itself isn’t too childish due to the Qiaos having it and is overall more elegant. Jia Xiu - Chain and Sickle. He’s had it since his debut and Gan Ning was confirmed to have it so this is a definite. Yue Jin - Hook Swords. A fairly reasonable weapon and I can’t think of any reason they’d remove it tbh. Li Dian - Greatsword. No real reason for this. I just know the wheeled halberd is definitely gone and will probably be replaced by another large weapon like the greatsword. WU Taishi Ci - Twin Rods. Another weapon confirmed by a previous character reveal. Lu Meng - Pike. Been his weapon forever and since Yueying has it, it’s for sure coming back. Ding Feng - Gauntlets. I’m not totally sure about this one, but I recall the devs saying something about taking inspiration from real-world martial arts and so I think the gauntlets could be a chance to incorporate more hand to hand martial arts in the game. Lianshi - Sword and Shield. I think this weapon would do a lot more to sell the protector aspect of her character than the Mandarin duck hooks and oviously since bows are back for everyone, she’s not getting her crossbow back. Here’s hoping the sword and shield get a fun overhaul so it’s a more enjoyable move set to play with. Lu Su - Crescent Blade. Can;t imagine the rake coming back and think Guan Yu’s moveset would fit Lu Su pretty well. Han Dang - Short Pike. I mean, since I gave it to Guan Xing, it’d be kinda silly not to give it to Han Dang. JIN Zhong Hui - Fan Sword. The most visually similar weapon to his flying swords, in my opinion, and I think it’d still suit him pretty well. I can just picture his smug self just arrogantly fanning himself. Zhang Chunhua - Chain Whip. Not a weapon I personally want her to have, but it’s the most likely tbh OTHER Zhang Jiao - Staff. Since I gave Pang Tong this weapon, makes sense that Zhang Jiao would get it too. I just honestly can;t imagine him with anything else. Meng Huo - Gauntlets. Same reason as above. Plus, the stone pillar is just absurd. Zhurong - Twin Axes. 100% just wishful thinking on my part, but I’d loooove to see her with some kind of intense aggressive weapon like this. Zuo Ci - Fan Sword. Since the feather fans are all taken, the next best thing would be the fan sword, which could be a fitting weapon for him, maybe? Chen Gong - Whip Sword. For the same reason as Fa Zheng, I think it fits his sinister nature pretty well. Well, that’s my list. lemme know what you think!
