Sister’s friend went to Batam, Indonesia with his colleagues for a short tour. He brought back traditional cakes from Sun Li by Batam Layer Cakes. The Batam Layer Cakes or Kueh Lapis Legit as it is more commonly known in Malaysia and Singapore was developed during colonial times in the Dutch East Indies. Because of the many layers required to form the cake, it is also called Indonesia Thousand Layers Cake (印尼千层蛋糕). The cake uses a lot of butter and even more egg yolks plus tons of patience during the baking process. It’s for these reasons, the cake is selling at a premium over other types of confections.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My family was gifted half each of Kueh Lapis Legit - Original and Kueh Lapis Legit - Cinnamon. A thin layer of batter is first applied to the tin, baked before another layer is spread over it and baked again. This is repeated until the required height or layers are achieved. Can you imagine how laborious and time-consuming it is to bake the cake by hand. But the end result is an ultra rich and moist butter cake with warm flavours of mixed spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and cardamom and the subtle hint of vanilla.

If you have the free time, a lot of spare butter and a backyard full of chickens, check out the below How to make Kueh Lapis Legit videos. The videos show you the original and prune recipes but they can come in many flavours. Do note, these are not my videos though.

Just a signal boost for the latest Hololive Indonesia's big branch collaboration songs
It hit me not long ago how ambitious, creative, and fun this first song project where the talents all chose to represent multiple parts of their culture. From the presentation leading up to this big collaboration being all the vtuber talents working together via Minecraft to create really intricate mini games for viewers to feel hyped at this team project, that then their other Indonesian co-workers got to play in where all participants wore traditional school uniforms (dress shirts, ties, skirts), all leading up to the music video release. The music video presents the vtubers from the HoloID branch all wearing the same school uniforms their avatars in Minecraft wore, and the MV tells the story of how they are in some sort of school festival setting and each group sings a folk song from Indonesia's culture, while dressing 1 representative of their group in traditional festive dresses. In the background we see the characters do dance poses that show of their cultural dances along side the dresses. from the video description:
Indonesia is comprised of diverse cultures and languages. From Sabang to Merauke, each region has its own unique characteristics. The diversity of languages, dances, music, and traditions come together in a harmonious unity. Presented by 9 talents of hololive Indonesia, this is the medley of folk songs in Indonesia that you have been waiting for!
When I first heard and saw this I didn't think much of it, but one day while it auto played it hit me how much of an earworm this song is, all the while giving some very cool representation of their culture. Subtitles via CC
youtube
The second song collaboration I want to signal boost is HI:STREET TIME, it may not have as much cultural volume as the Medley, but does a good job previewing the talents/characters that make up the Indonesian Branch. Three generations consisting of 3 talents, singing snippets of their aesthetics to a fun pop beat with colorful visuals. Subtitles via CC
youtube
If their singing caught your attention check out the rest of their discography in the playlist below the cutoff line. Their songs don't get as much views as their Japanese and English counterparts do, but not due to a lack of talent.

🔎 ABOUT THIS PROJECT
===============================
Coral reefs are known as “the rainforests of the sea”. These vibrantly complex ecosystems harbour the highest biodiversity of any ecosystem globally. An estimated 25% of all marine species depend on reefs. They are also crucial for millions of people, providing food, livelihoods, resources and coastal protection.
Major threats, such as over-exploitation and climate change, are jeopardising the future of coral reefs. In the last few decades, sharp declines in reef cover have occurred worldwide. This is our first coral reef project to restore damaged reefs in the northern waters of Nusa Penida, Indonesia.
Our long-term goal is to improve resilience by enhancing connectivity of fragmented reefs whilst protecting and preserving endangered coral species. Led by our local team of expert divers and marine biologists passionate about the preservation of this marine ecosystem, we work with local people to promote positive community involvement in coral reef restoration.

SIKSA KUBUR (2024) / GRAVE TORTURE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know where the story is going yet because the movie will be released in April. The director, Joko Anwar yesterday shared the first still from the movie on his social media. There is a mysterious tunnel that might be a crucial part of the movie. So I recreated it in my game.
Tumblr media
The concept of grave torture in Muslim belief refers to the phases of the grave that people must pass through after death. Grave torture is considered as a reward for bad deeds during the lifetime in the world.
Tumblr media
This movie itself is a feature-length movie adaptation of a short movie previously made by the director. I'm very excited for this movie to hit theaters. You can watch the short movie legally on Youtube.

We've travelled to Indonesia to showcase spectacular gardens, stunning nature and passionate growers. Sean Salim from ‪@onlyplants‬ introduces us to a particularly stunning garden today. On the outskirts of Jakarta is a luxurious garden full of life. There are crickets, frogs, birds and many sorts of insects.
Plant breeder Chandra Hendarto aimed to create an ecosystem in the space around his house to welcome in visiting wildlife. He was especially keen to attract dragonflies, which he says are a good indicator of a healthy ecosystem. There are now lots of dragonflies in his lush, naturalistic garden, which features a swimming pool that sits alongside fishponds and a waterfall surrounded by dense, tropical foliage and tall trees.
While his garden is large, he says even if you only have a few square metres, it’s possible to contribute oxygen to the world by adding a few plants.
He says the garden has changed his life.
Filmed in Depok, West Java
