one thing that's really hard to explain to people who specifically have only heard about alters in the simplified (and largely incorrect) way, is how alters and fronting actually works.

the popular (unfortunately) general understanding is that these parts exist as separate entities, and that they somehow have separate consciousnesses from eachother. this is almost entirely wrong.

i feel like a better way to explain it is to just state the truth, that there is only one consciousness at all times, with dissociative barriers that affect it (emotional, amnesia, etc.). the person with alters only feels like different people, because that's what the disorder they have does. alters aren't actually some special bonus thing that exists exclusively in people with complex dissociative disorders, they're just the brain making things appear to be different identities in one body. it's similar to depersonalization, but more severe and complex (obviously).

this is why "what XYZ does when not fronting" posts are so nonsensical; it's simply impossible. if alters are not fronting / part of the active consciousness, they just aren't there. some try to explain it as the alters "being asleep/unconscious" but in reality they just... aren't anything. they're not actual separate people in your brain.

TL;DR: alters don't become you. you become your alters.

What baffles me the most about right-wingers is how they will identify a problem that is real and exists, (which was 99% of the time caused by right-wing policies), and then decide the reason for it is actually those lazy poors.

Arguments against overposting people's art (not giving a compliment/reaction) on Discord:

-It takes literally five seconds to write a compliment about something that took someone upwards of an hour

-People do not owe you free art to look at and enrich your world (be glad that it's not locked behind a paywall)

-If you were the one being overposted and you didn't mind that, if you didn't want a compliment, why not send your art to an empty groupchat? It serves the same purpose!

-There are so many structures that you can use. '[Thing that caught my eye first][why it caught my eye]' is a personal favourite that sounds heartfelt especially if you add a nice adjective in there ('I like the lineart!! It's lovely and sharp')

-If you don't have time, or you can't think of anything, Discord has a lovely feature that allowed you to directly reply to a post with a kind emoji of any kind. They're called reactions, in case you didn't know /s

-Discord is a social platform. It's intended for messaging each other. What is the actual point in treating it like Instagram or something

-The world is a better place when you encourage people to do what they like to do

Anyway, yea. There's literally no good reason to overpost. 'I was feeling lazy' or 'I can't be bothered' just isn't good enough -- leave posting for another day if you cannot muster enough energy to tap twice on your screen. Are you kidding. Would it kill you to have a nice thought about someone else's accomplishments?
