I grew up in hell, had my soul torn into one thousand pieces over twenty years and sewn back together with my nerves, and I survived. Yet people who barely know me believe that they have to be insanely gentle with me as if one wrong word could kill me.

I don't know how to say it nicely so forgive me because hurting you is not my goal but, you are not that important. You don't mean that much to me so feel free to say whatever you want. I only allow the people I care about to reach me with their words.

A little zine about how I (still) have trouble saying the word aromantic.

I've never made a zine before! I was inspired to try it because @queerliblib mentioned a zine making night in an email. That hasn't happened yet - its on June 26th - but once I had the idea, I couldn't wait, lol. It was nice to put something down on paper and have the finished product to hold onto.

Page 1: Three tiny speech bubbles say: "Do you have a bf? Do you like anyone? What's your type?" A big speech bubble says, "Oh, I don't date." The big speech bubble comes from a heart colored like the aromantic flag. 

Page 2 says: I could say: "Actually, I'm... ...aromantic." ...aro." ...aromantic asexual." ...aroace."

Page 3 says: But there are a few problems:

aromantic: Has been misheard as "A Romantic".

aro: Opaque if you don't already know the term.

aromantic asexual: A mouthful! And sounds...scientific?

aroace: shares The Big Problem: it may require a vocabulary lesson!

Page 4 says: It doesn't actually come up too often! Which is fine. My coworkers, my neighbors, and strangers don't need to know I'm aroace. I just wish I could say it sincerely when I do want someone to know. 

Page 5 says: I always have to smile - laugh - hedge. "Oh, well, actually, I'm kind of like, aromantic? Basically just not interested."

It's been more than 8 years since the first time I said it out loud!  I'm certain of it, but I still can't say it like I mean it!

Page 6 says: The most memorable time I said "I don't date" the guy I was talking to asked "Oh are you asexual?" and I said "Yeah, actually. And aromantic." And we moved on.

That was nice. 

Page 7 says:

The times I've lead with "I'm aromantic" -- well, there's only one I really remember:

"I didn't use to think that was a real thing." 

Other than that time -- even if I use the word, I always explain what it means first! 

Page 8 says: I just hope that one day I'll feel like I can say, simply, confidently: "I'm aromantic" and "I'm aroace."

The words "I'm aromantic" are big and dark green, the color of the top stripe of the aromantic flag. The words "I'm aroace" are big and bright orange, the color of the top stripe of the aroace flag. Three hearts below the words are colored to look like the aromantic, aroace, and asexual flags.

Other people's jealousy used to hold me back a lot because I thought it's a sign of respect to not behave in a way that makes your idol upset.

But honestly? If someone is jealous of my terrible daily intrusive thoughts just because they motivate me to draw something silly, then it's not a reasonable approach to take into consideration.

I'm not a professional artist, I don't do commissions or sell my art in any way, so it's not like I'm stealing the market from anyone. My insta stories get averagely 30 views and 4 likes, so it's not like I'm someone influential.

I wish I could make it easier for you, let me know if there is something I can do. Just don't expect me to stop because that would kill me.

(this is not aimed at anyone in particular, it's just an experience that's followed me for half my life. alright alright writing this I've also had one specific post in mind that made rounds months ago and basically said that you should be ashamed when you participate in inktober because it creates unreasonable expectations for artists. don't tell the person who wrote that post about my miniontober)(but listen. if im alone while suicidal then what's the use of not irritating the sensitive people with my sheer existence. it's a tough choice between protecting me or other people but this time i have to be selfish and prioritize myself. and i really don't want to be disrespectful. i only want to survive)(ask to tag and block when necessary)(you don't know the half)

The state of watching the entirety of Ninjago is so sad, how am I supposed to get my friends to show the series when it's like:

"Okay so you start with Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu, not the one just labeled Ninjago those are the later seasons. Anyways after Skybound you need to pause and pirate Day of the Departed, it's not very good but it finished Morro's arc for a bit and it's plot relevant. Then once you finish it pick back up at Hands of Time, or skip it nobody really likes that season. Then stop again, and pirate the Oni Trilogy, then go BACK to Netflix for the Fire and Ice Chapters, AND THEN watch Prime Empire, Master of the Mountain, The Island, Seabound, and Crystalized on YouTube. Now we go back to Netflix to watch Dragon's Rising!! Also don't look up the show online there are leaks everywhere, you will get spoiled!!"

Lego I'm begging you, just upload all Ninjago Content to YouTube, at least the stuff before Dragon's Rising, there's already a solid amount on YouTube, just put the rest there!!! We'll even make the playlists for you, just PLEASE make it easier to access!!

I mean I do know a pretty good pirating website, which you guys should TOTALLY avoid because it has a bunch of anime and cartoons that are easily accessible ILLEGALLY, and FOR FREE!!! You guys should totally DM me so I can show you the website you should avoid, especially if you wanna make watching Ninjago a little easier.

(the jason one is in reference to the fanon headcanon/au that Jason and Damian potentially knew each other and interacted while jason was in the league. I've thought about it before in context of this au, but haven't thought about it enough to feel inspired or motivated to make a post exploring the idea)

(diablito means, as you can guess, 'little devil'. while i'm neutral to latino jason, i think the nickname is cute as fuck and was danny's main nickname from Jason. i don't wanna touch that timeline so im not gonna decide how old they were when Jason was there.)

Skulker: i am the ghost zone's greatest hunter! i capture and hunt creatures both rare and dangerous. Danyal: a poacher?? you're a poacher?? you poach animals??Skulker:...i sense i've made a mistake of some kind.

anyways that was the day that Skulker cemented himself as Danny's no.1 opp, and still remains there to this day even if he and Vlad are both viciously fighting for second. Out of everyone in the the AP rogues gallery, Skulker will be the first to be thrown under the bus in terms of 'o shit here comes phantom fucking RUN'.

Hi it's just to let you know that the official romanization of Revaan's name is Raverne ! Also they have romanized Baul's name to Baur !

Twst coming back at us again with the least expected romanization! thank you everybody (oh god my inbox) (no it's great, I literally asked for this and the reactions have been INCREDIBLE, thank you all!)

I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)
