I received a new dollhouse kit from Banggood.com last Monday. I was expecting it since last week, unfortunately, our local post office didn’t return my call when I asked for the status of the EMS package on Friday.

It’s early Tuesday when I started to build the kit and that I knew, it wouldn’t work for my Nendoroid or Cu-poche.  The kit is too small and it will only work with my Yotsuba trading…

Speaking of Youtsuba!Light, why Ohba decided to make him so different from the character we knew before? I mean, even before Light found the Death Note his eyes were empty and he said the whole world was rotten and he was ready to kill some bully in his school ("Should I kill him? No, it's better not to kill someone who can be connected to me").

But in the Youtsuba!arc during Light's internal monologue he says that he can understand Kira's ideas but could never kill a person + i think his scream in the helicopter can be interpreted as his terror at learning how many people he's killed. It's just Kira!Light and Youtsuba!Light feel like completely different people and i can understand those who say that "Kira and Light are different people/Light died in the 1st ep./Ryuzaki and Light are friends, but Kira and L are enemies" etc.

It feels like Ohba couldn't decide whether he wanted to show a sociopath whose motivation is boredom or a righteous vigilante whose motivation is justice and who just chose the wrong path to achieve it

I disagree pretty strongly with your assessment here, but I think part of that is due to the way the anime chose to frame Light in the first episode. The anime amps up the murderousness for him a LOT.

I don’t think the way Light acts in the Yotsuba Arc is AT ALL incompatible with the way he acted before getting the Death Note.

Thinking the world is rotten does not make you a mass murderer in disguise. I think in 2021 we can all understand being disgusted with the state of our society - and we’re not sociopaths for it. Light is jaded and unhappy with his life, but he’s not ready to start stabbing people over it.

The consideration of killing  that bully happens after the Kuro Otoharadah kill - which was an accident. He did think the Death Note was a prank. He STILL wants to think it’s a prank, all just a hypothetical game in his head. He doesn’t WANT the result of his test to be that the Death Note is real - when that winds up being the result anyway, he is so terrified that he nearly throws up in the streets.

So yeah, of course Light would think of himself as someone who wouldn’t kill somebody. Because he wouldn’t have, if he had been aware that was what he was doing. But he was a bored kid playing some game with himself (and let’s be real, this is absolutely no different from putting a name into ‘enter your classmate here and they’ll die’ websites which TONS of teens in the real world do). He wound up with a body count without meaning to - what he is doing is justifying himself for that mistake. Without remembering this inciting incident, his own logic would indeed seem utterly bizarre to him.

And I mean, look at him. Laughing about the notebook that he thinks is a prank, walking home laughing with his buddies and most importantly... justifying himself by being a model teenager!

All that Light does in the Yotsuba Arc is perform this model teenager image to the nth degree - and he HAS to because he is literally fighting for his innocence. He cannot admit to a single immoral thought because L is always watching and L is absolutely willing to get him executed for a crime he does not think he committed. Light is showing off his virtues literally for dear life.

Also his dad is there, and Light emulates his dad’s morals super strongly. That’s like half of the reason he became Kira in the first place. And now during the Yotsuba arc he gotta at least make a good impression on dad! His life is in shambles, he’s not gonna let his father down, too, now.

Yotsuba!Light isn’t at all inconsistent with who Light is as a person. The anime changing the first episode up visually does the character consistency a disservice.
