(And on days like this, Crowley wondered if maybe they were right. Maybe he was passing his time amongst pawns on a chess board and would do well to regard them as such. Maybe then mad tyrants wouldn’t make his skin crawl. Not even the One Big Tyrant, his very boss, elicited any such sort of reaction from him as humans were capable of producing. Who was corrupting whom? Huh.)

But Aziraphale was fond of humanity, was he not? Fond of oysters. Pleasures of the flesh. 

And so, Crowley had had no qualms letting himself be tempted to an oyster, temptations being part of his job description and all, and leading an angel to temptation sure had to count for something on his report card, right? And yet, yet, when the word had so casually slipped out of the angel’s mouth, Crowley had not felt smug. He had felt elated. Charmed. Tempted. 

He was the one who should be doing the tempting,*** damn it!

His train of thought was interrupted when a large bowl of mollusks was placed on the table between them, shells and all. Seawater filled his nostrils. Saltwater and tears.
