Kidnapped Firepaw AU
Following up the "Banished Fireheart AU" with this absolute gem.
Premise:
As Spottedleaf recounts the prophecy of fire to Bluestar, Tigerclaw lurks and listens, wholeheartedly believing in the words of Starclan like the UWU good pureblooded clan cat that he is.
Obviously he now needs to find himself a highlighter orange cat, he can't have the clan destroying itself before he ever even gets the chance to lead it after all, but where on earth is he supposed to find one when highlighter orange genetics aren't exactly common in the forest?.......
Enter Rusty, wondering the border of two-leg place all helpless and alone, itty bitty wittle barely apprentice aged kitty.
He's perfect, he simply HAS to join Thunderclan, the prophecised cat has gotta be him.
Besides, "rescuing" a kit from potential danger is the right thing for a noble warrior like Tigerclaw to do in this situation.
(Scourge? Never met her.)
Recruitment speeches and independent thought processes? What in Starclan's name are those?...
Tigerclaw could just carry this kit home right now if he wanted to.
So he does, he just stalks Rusty for a while, pops out of the bushes when the timing is right and straight up catnaps him.
Rusty is still the Rusty whom we all know and love, so he isn't THAT deeply upset about getting to live in the wild, but his little paws are rated E for everyone and he vows to make this entire experience as difficult for his kidnapper as possible.
Measures taken by Rusty to ruin Tigerclaw's life now include:
Acting more cynical and prickly than even Longtail on the daily
Ensuring that the cat assigned to escort him back home one final time as he says his last goodbyes to Smudge is Tigerclaw, the one cat who hates two-leg place more than Darkstripe
Cozying up to Bluestar (and later Yellowfang) when he knows damn well that Tigerclaw wants to be the adult in his life for some stupid reason
Making Ravenpaw his best friend as soon as organically possible because he also knows perfectly well that Tigerclaw will be forced to tolerate Ravenpaw if Firepaw takes a fancy to him
Ravenpaw: "Tigerclaw wants to kill me...."
Firepaw: "So that he can convince Bluestar to make me his apprentice instead?.... No thank you!"
Firepaw is a paw-length from convincing Bluestar to be his mentor, he will not be letting Tigerclaw ruin that for him.
The petty grudge continues into Fireheart's career as a warrior, prompting a neverending series of events seen as unfortunate only by Tigerclaw.
What do you mean his orange cat likes all of the remaining cats that he was planning on murdering?.... That was supposed to be HIS orange cat! Now how is he supposed to continue on his bloodthirsty quest for power?
Fireheart is best friends with Goldenflower now, she is his big sister, all of the adoration, attention and respect that Tigerclaw wishes he could get from Fireheart goes to Goldenflower
Bramblekit and Tawnykit are on the same level as Cloudkit, they are also his niece and nephew and he goes out of his way to hog nursery visitation
Longtail and Dustpelt are going to be Fireheart's friends now whether they like it or not, he is going to slowly squeeze their Tigerclaw love out of them like two-leg tooth paste and make them part of the 💥 Fireheart Squad 💥
Graystripe, Ravenflight(paw), and Sandstorm are already part of the 💥 Fireheart Squad 💥 and they help him bully Darkstripe

Can't help but imagine that Yellowfang would go full mom (or aunt) mode once she realizes that Firepaw is a kit. Grooming, making sure he's not pushing himself too hard and making sure he sleeps.
That is absolutely what happened.
She'll make him get two pieces of prey from the pile, one for herself and another for him, and make him eat, send him to bed early if he looks tired, groom him against his will if he's looking a little too scruffy (which was often), etc. It's kind of embarrassing when the other cats catch on.
Firepaw: I can groom myself, I'm not a kit!
Yellowfang (bombastic side-eye): Uh huh
But then Firepaw starts looking to her for comfort a lot more often. He's more affectionate and touchy with her since he can't be with the other cats. He probably spends more time in her den than the apprentice's den.

Like to think that, as a ex-kittypet, firestar its a pretty touchy cat, like, he likes physical contact a lot and does it quite often
he’s so huggy. he’s the huggiest hugger. one time, graypaw was beckoning firepaw over to share tongues, but firepaw just rubbed against his side real hard, purred, flopped on the ground, and kept purring.
as yellowfang dies, she licks his head real hard and he just gets choked up bc it brings up a memory of his mom, the only memory he has of her.
cloudtail is super similar, and fireheart punishes his apprentice for disrespect with cuddle bans.
as fireheart and longtail become friends, fireheart gets super touchy. he rubs and leans on longtail and intertwines their tails, and longtail is SO flustered but he thinks it’s platonic because fireheart acts similarly with graystripe.
as soon as squirrelkit and leafkit don’t need sandstorm’s milk, she leaves the nursery and firestar replaces her :3 he was there the whole time, but yknow. he LOVES sitting there all day with kits cuddling him. HIS kits, can you believe it? once those two are apprenticed, firestar mopes a bit from lack of cuddles.
after his kits leave the nursery, firestar refuses (can’t) sleep without another cat, usually longtail.
leafpool was always a little closer to firestar than squirrelflight was, despite firestar’s wishes, so they have cute little moments sitting together and grooming each other, rubbing their heads together and purring.
even once his family is full-grown, they all pile in the leader’s den from time to time to cuddle firestar. this continues until his death — so his grandbabies, the three, get to join in! bramblestar does not continue this tradition in the leader’s den, but squirrelflight’s kids still cuddle her. firestar passed on the cuddle gene.
in starclan, firestar is the patron saint of cuddle puddles because i said so???
i definitely want legendary cats to be known as “patron” of something, and firestar definitely will be one, and it will definitely have to do with love.

Hypo kits… hypo kits…. Ok weird but uhhh.. Scourgebroken kits… (it’s for my au….squirrel is one of their daughters)
Ooh… the only way I could probably see this happening is if it was a political alliance…
Brokenstar makes a deal with Scourge vis a vi Tigerstar styl, and to seal the deal, have kittens to… continue the bloodline ig(work with me here)
Scourge is very protective of them, but reluctantly leaves them at Shadowclan as a show of trust. But, when Brokenstar is overthrown, and killed, Shadowclan doesn’t want to keep the kittens. They’re odd, with large, staring eyes, and… collars with dog teeth in them.
Yellowfang seems oddly attached, and Firepaw decides to lie his ass off and says “Wow, golly gee. Those cats sure look like my mom. That’s wild.” Bluestar sees this, puts two and two together, and takes them back to Thunderclan.(I mean… he isn’t wrong… technically they are his nieces…)
Cats avoid them at first, but they slowly are accepted!
All is good, until book three where Scourge invades to reclaim his children and all hell brakes loose.
AU names were Snarl and Wire in Bloodclan, and are Amberleaf and Iceflight.
(Amberleaf is Leafpool, and Iceflight is Squirrelflight!)

Warrior Cats Reread #1: Into The Wild
Some friends decided to organize a group read of the Warriors series and since I grew up with these books and loved them a lot as a kid I decided to join in
Idk how far I'll get into this reread (my hope is to at least finish the first arc) but I thought it'd be fun to write up some thoughts as I finish the books :D
iirc I first read Into the Wild when I was in middle school after a friend convinced me to try the series and my mom bought me the first book of the og series & new prophecy during a family trip (possibly to make me less whiny since I remember being very bored on that trip and I think I was actually almost done with Into the Wild by the time we were heading back xD)
Anyway, I remember reading several of the first series books multiple times but for some reason never the first one. Which is a shame because its a great book and I remembered some parts of it pretty vividly! The conflict with Brokenstar and him training young kits before they were ready, Yellowfang's exile and friendship with Firepaw, Tigerclaw murdering Redtail and Ravenpaw being a witness and being forced to escape at the end or risk losing his life... There's a lot of good stuff!
Also Spottedleaf I guess.
Actually the #1 thing I remembered from this book is that Spottedleaf dies and it is very sudden and weird and for some reason she becomes Firestar's Lost Lenore in later books. I thought maybe they had some meaningful scenes in this book I'd forgotten that showed them building a bond or her being kind to him at a time when most of the clan regarded him with suspicion...
But nope! It's exactly as I remembered xD
Maybe most of this bonding occurs after she's a force ghost?
Although she died a lot further into the book than I expected so there is that I guess!
Other things of note:
Bluestar my beloved! I vaguely remember her being my favorite character as a kid and I still love her!
Yellowfang my other beloved! I still love you so much!
Ravenpaw is a good bean who deserves the world. And also wow was Tigerclaw determined to kill him in this volume!
And speaking of Tigerclaw killing cat-people, I could have sworn he was responsible for Lionheart's death but I guess not? Maybe?
I had completely forgotten that Wind Clan was a non-entity in this book, having been driven out. I vaguely remember them being pretty helpful in this arc and then turn into the worst clan later
There is so much murder and attempted murder and talk of murder in this children's book series and I wouldn't have it any other way <3
Overall Into the Wild is a great first entry into the Warriors series that eases the reader into the setting and the way of the clans (even if you can kinda tell things were still being figured out at this point). Brokenstar makes for a great first antagonist to be defeated at the end, while a more sinister threat looms in the background raising more questions and mysteries for Firepaw to explore in later books
#fortune reads warriors#i do like this book a lot#and reading this series again honestly makes me want to check out the series that were written after i'd stopped reading#(or at least the super editions I still have but never read)#(kept in case i might want to read them at a later time...which i guess is now xD)#but on a more negative note.... what did they do to the book covers T_T#why are they so ugly now T____T#i'm so glad i still have my og series at least

I just had a lightning bolt of inspiration for the poly-med au, so hear me out:
It happens every other generation(to avoid bloat)
And Firestar would be seen as Spottedleaf's bastard son.
Cause think about it! She could have patches of flaming red, she spent a long time around the two-leg place roughly six months ago, and then this tiny flaming red kittypet kitten shows up, claiming that he heard about the Clans from his dad (Jake would step up to raise Rusty more in this au, and would be talking about Tallstar) and Spottedleaf and Bluestar seem very eager to let him in... I imagine that the children of the poly-med gen. would often have prophecies attached to them... and the Thunderclan inhabitants quickly wise up and realize that there's probably a prophecy going on...
Granted, this would nix Spotted/Fire. Not too bad.
But word travels quickly at the gathering, and at Firepaw's first one, he is awkwardly shuffled to meet the Meddie cats. Cats stare at him, whisper about Spottedleaf, and overall Firepaw is very confused since no one explained what was going on.
Yellowfang meets him and is immediately like 'You're Spottedleaf's bastard son? I thought she'd choose a handsome mate, but I'm sure your parent has a... tolerable personality."
Firepaw: what.
I'M DYING, THAT REACTION IS SO FUNNY!
I'm honestly very interested in how this affects the relationship between Spottedleaf and her husbands/wives. How much of a grudge do they hold against her and Firepaw? Would the expectation be that they shun her for her treachery or would they step up as adoptive parents?
Either way, while I think Spotty could make an argument in ThunderClan about him being accepted on the ground that, you know, meddie child and all, it'd be a harder pill to swallow in the other Clans to have him so readily accepted. I imagine seeing him as deputy and eventually leader would incense them even more and boy that is juicy drama.
Also Firepaw's "mom" dying. That's gonna hit hard on the boy.
If this skips a generation, Leafpool's gonna be the next one right? This can be slotted neatly into the concept as I was developing it. Though it would preclude Kestrel/Jay/Willow/Flame polycule. Shame, I like those guys.

Fire and Ice - Chapter 38
Chapter 37 || Index || Chapter 39
"Brokenstar denied everything, of course, so now we're officially at war."
Firepaw watched the elders grumble and sigh at his words. In the morning after the Gathering, he had volunteered to help Dewpaw and Yellowfang take herbs to Tallpines for the Shadowclanners, as well as change their bedding and catch them breakfast. He didn't mind the chance to gossip, either, even if his audience wasn't always receptive.
"He's always been stubborn." Crowtalon grumbled to her mate beside her. "More stubborn than you, even."
Archtail spat crossly back at her. "At least I'm always right!" He hissed, mumbling something under his breath that the apprentice didn't quite catch. Crowtalon only responded with a roll of her eyes.
"Now remember, the less you move that leg, the faster it'll heal." He turned to see Yellowfang lecturing Volepaw in her usual gruff manner. "Don't go chasing Mosspaw around if you know what's good for you!"
"Where is Mosspaw, anyhow?" Firepaw asked, glancing around for the little spotted apprentice. The scent of the Shadowclanner lingered, but they didn't seem to be around.
"Nightpelt took them out to practice hunting." Featherstorm, the kits' mother, spoke up now. "Apparently Spiderfoot hasn't done a single hunting session with them during their apprenticeship!"
There were murmurs of discontent around the room at her statement. "Shadowclan's fallen to pieces." Crowtalon grumbled. "This would never have happened in Raggedstar's time."
He noticed Yellowfang flinch at the leader's name, but he didn't get the chance to ask why. "Raggedstar was a fool to let Brokenstar become leader." Cinderscar, another elder, growled. "He should have chosen Blizzardwing instead. At least Blizzardwing would have followed the code!"
"Blizzardwing would have keeled over by his fifth life." Crowtalon croaked in response. "He's almost as old as us. Now, if he picked Wolfstep…"
The two elders bickered among themselves, but Firepaw was distracted by Nightpelt and Mosspaw returning. Mosspaw was proudly carrying a small vole, while Nightpelt was carrying a significantly larger squirrel. The smaller of the two trotted up to their mother, dropping the vole at her feet. "I caught my first prey!" They told her proudly.
"On your first hunt!" Featherstorm purred proudly, licking the apprentice's forehead gently. "No apprentice could have done better. Not even Raggedstar." Emotion flashed through her eyes as she spoke, scooping the kitten closer to her.
"Mom!" They complained, and Firepaw couldn't help but smile. He missed those days with his own mother. He thought briefly of Princess, not far away from here. It had been two moons since he had visited her. Maybe he could slip away for a little bit now…
"Firepaw!" He blinked as Yellowfang called his name. "Quit dawdling and get that bedding out of here. Dewpaw can't be far with the fresh moss. And while you're out there, see if you can't catch something for my parents."
He blinked in confusion. "Your…?"
The old molly snorted in disbelief. "Archtail and Crowtalon. Surely you can see the family resemblance?" Indeed, he noticed now that Archtail had a similar thick coat as the Shadowclan healer, and Crowtalon the same broad, flat face. "Almost every cat in here is my family in some way. Like Nightpelt and Cinderscar, my littermates. Of course, I'm much prettier than my brothers." She fluffed her fur seductively as she spoke, and Firepaw turned away to keep her from noticing him stifling his laughter.
Nightpelt rolled his eyes at the molly while Cinderscar swatted at one of her torn ears. "Careful now, you can't afford to lose much more of those ears." The gray tom growled, his voice rough and gravelly.
"I guess I just didn't think about it." Firepaw admitted. Graypaw had explained most of the family relations in Thunderclan on his first day, and he had figured some out with how cats interacted around camp. But, aside from Crowtalon and Archtail being mates, he hadn't stopped to consider how some of the elders in here might be related.
"Yes, well, I suppose that's to be expected. You hardly think about most things." She waved him off with a paw. "Now hurry up already!"
He quickly bundled up the dirty moss and made his way outside, towards the edge of Tallpines. As he raked it open and scattered it, he glanced over to the Twolegplace. Most of the Twolegs and kittypets were carrying out their morning routines right now. No one would notice if he went missing for a little bit, and if they did, he was just hunting a little farther out in the forest than usual.
His mind made up, he ducked through a hole in the Tallpines fence and trotted down the fence of the Twolegplace. No cat saw him, or if they did, they didn't disturb him. It wasn't long until he was at Princess's fence once more.
"Princess? Are you there?" Firepaw called out, his orange tail swishing languidly. Given it was morning, it was possible she was eating her breakfast and wouldn't be able to come out. Still, he didn't mind in that case; he would just return to his duties as usual.
To his surprise, the light brown tabby was up on the fence in mere heartbeats. "Firepaw! I thought that was you!" She purred happily, jumping down to greet him warmly. "I've been so worried! It's been moons since I last saw you."
"I know, I'm sorry. With the war, Bluestar made a rule that we couldn't be out on our own for very long, and…" He hesitated, not sure how she would take him hiding her from the Clan. "Well, I'm not supposed to be talking to kittypets. Not even if they're my sister."
Instead of balking at his words, she nodded and smiled at him. "I figured as much. You don't see any other wild cats talking to kittypets, do you?"
He considered Tinyfrost for a moment. Did his mentor ever visit his old home? He'd made it sound like it wasn't pleasant, though. "I'd be surprised if they did." He admitted to her. "They've accepted me, but most warriors don't look on kittypets too kindly."
"You've mentioned that." She sat back and looked him over. "You look well. I take it that those Shadowcat warriors were no match for my brother?" She gave him a cheeky grin and gently patted his face with one prim white paw.
He chuckled at that and looked away. "Well, sort of. We haven't fought them much yet, to tell the truth." He didn't bother to correct her, given it didn't really matter anyways. "Bluestar wants to go on the offense now, though. We recently found out that they've been doing… doing a lot of bad things. Thunderclan - my Clan - has to stop them."
The young molly studied him carefully. "I'll take your word for it." She finally mewed softly. "Come back safely, won't you? I can't stand waiting another season for you."
Firepaw nodded. "I promise. I'll come see you by the next full moon, so don't worry." He paused to consider that for a moment, before giving her a small grin. "Actually, next time you see me, I might even have a new name!"
The dark tawny kittypet blinked at him in confusion. "A new name?"
He nodded enthusiastically. "Yea! In the Clans, as a cat grows up, they get new names for each stage of their life. The paw in my name means I'm an apprentice, learning how to be a warrior. When we become a full warrior, the leader gives us a new name that reflects us somehow." He could see her nodding, though he could tell she didn't quite understand what he was on about. "Recently my friend Pepperpaw received her warrior name, so now she's known as Peppermask."
She furrowed her brows a bit. "So next time we meet, I should call you Firemask?" Princess asked, her green eyes meeting his.
"Maybe not Firemask. I don't know what my name will be yet. It could be something like Fireflash, or Firefang… Firefrost, after my mentor…" He wondered what Bluestar would choose for him. Did she decide on the spot, or did she have a name in mind for every apprentice? He wished he could ask her, but he doubted she would respond kindly to such nosy questions.
"How about I call you Fire until then?" His sister's broke into his reverie, shaking him out of his thoughts. "And you can let me know next time, when you come back a big brave warrior." Her voice was teasing, but he still couldn't help but grin back at her.
"I will." He promised once more, before standing up and stretching out. The sunlight felt good on his back in the early morning frost. "I should get going, though. The Clan will start to miss me if I'm gone too long."
The tabby molly shook her long, fluffy coat out and stood up as well. "I should return to my housefolk anyhow. She'll get worried if I'm not there for morning kibble." With a precise leap, she scaled the fence separating her garden from the forest. "See you next time, Fire."
"Until next time." He watched her disappear into her garden before turning and stalking into the forest. He still had to bring back prey for the elders - Yellowfang's parents, he reminded himself - if he wanted to keep up illusions with the Clan.
Thankfully, he didn't have to go far to find a small flock of clueless pigeons. Though he was only able to catch one of them, the bird was juicy, well fed on the bounty of the forest; hopefully it would be enough of an apology for being late with the elders' freshkill.
When he arrived back at the temporary Shadowclan den, the elders were still impatiently bickering. "There you are! Where have you been, chasing snails?" Crowtalon growled as he presented the still-warm pigeon to her.
"I'm sorry. The prey was faster than me this morning." He glanced around to notice both the healers were missing. "Where did Dewpaw and Yellowfang go?" He asked the Shadowclanners curiously.
"They got tired of waiting for you." Archtail grumbled through his bite of bird. "Yellowfang said she was gonna send Tinyfrost back for you if you didn't hurry up."
His fur bristled at the thought of his mentor angrily chasing him down. If Tinyfrost found him talking to his sister… "I better get going, then."
"Yes, you should." Cinderscar growled from his nest. "We don't need more apprentices around here to interrupt our naps."
"You watch your tongue." He heard Featherstorm hiss as he darted out of the Twoleg den. He wasn't about to stay around for that argument, knowing how feisty a mother could get - and how moody the Shadowclan elders were in general.
He hurried back through the forest, keeping his ears alert for Tinyfrost's presence. Only birdsong rang through the trees as he jumped over giant tree roots or ducked under bramble growths.
But as he neared the Thunderclan camp, he heard something else. There was a voice, low and soft, that traveled through the trees towards him. Was it Tinyfrost coming to find him? He grinned to himself and dropped into a crouch. They'd been practicing stealth techniques recently, mostly due to the night sessions caused by the greenleaf heat. Now was a perfect time to show off what he had learned.
Creeping forward, he was surprised to hear that it sounded like his mentor was arguing with someone. He hesitated, unsure if he should be interrupting a heated conversation, but then curiosity got the better of him and compelled him forward. It wasn't until he got very close that he was able to place the voice; it wasn't Tinyfrost speaking, but Tigerclaw.
He froze in place as the giant warrior spoke only a few tail-lengths ahead. "To think I ever loved him as a son." The ginger tom could see him now, hidden in the shadow of a giant fern bush. "But now he's too far gone. Revealing our camp to Shadowclan spies, trying to break into the nursery to steal kits, nearly poisoning our deputy…"
"The Clan would be better off without a traitor like Ravenpaw." This voice was eager, almost like an apprentice answering a mentor, but the thought made Firepaw's heart lurch with horror. Though he hadn't heard him speak much, he could only guess that this was Darkstripe talking.
"I wish I could disagree." Tigerclaw's voice was despondent, but the apprentice knew all too well that he was faking it. "We can't risk him giving intel to Shadowclan about our plans. We must act quickly."
"But how?" A third voice - Longtail's? Dustleap's? He couldn't tell from here. "Quickflash refuses to see reason, and Bluestar is no better."
"We must see." Tigerclaw's voice floated back to him. "Perhaps we can get assigned to a patrol along the Shadowclan border…" His voice was fading out now, and he could see the giant tom moving away. "... Get him to show his true intentions…" Firepaw had heard enough. Turning back to camp, he forced himself to keep his paw steps quiet until he was on the edge of the ravine. He had to tell someone. Ravenpaw's life was in mortal danger, and he had to do something to stop it.

More of my Scorchedpaw AU!
For those who haven't seen my original post explaining it, its basically an AU where Firepaw is Yellowfang's actual kit and is a she-cat
This is just a small ref sheet I threw together because I didn't want to get the design messed up.
Also a bonus incorrect quote

Hmmmmm AU where Firepaw really comes to love caring for Yellowfang, and he changes to apprentice under Spottedleaf and everything changes. Cinderpelt - that which comes after the fire, and the thing from which new things grow again - is what saves the clan.

AU where instead Yellowfang is Fire's mom, but both him and Broken are found by two legs and only Yellowfang escapes back to Shadowclan, and a few moons later Thunderclan has 2 new apprentices, Brokenpaw and Firepaw.
Hmm... Tempting, I do really have a softness for AUs that explore the idea of them both being Yellowfang's children. It's one of the things I'm excited to do with Firestar's Quietus, I love the idea of the Chosen One and the Manifested Curse being brothers or friends.
AU where instead of having Graystripe, Fireheart's ally is the big leashed attack dog known as Brokentail and half of the book is just Fireheart teaching him how to be good through the Power of Friendship

For the wc ask thing:
🌲 Pinestar’s Choice
I've always been rly partial to aus where Pinestar takes Tigerkit with him. For that to work he just kind of kidnaps him, tells Sunfall he's leaving, and books it lmao. Tiger probably gets some tree name to match the theme. Oak could be a fun choice.
Anyways, later on, Tiger becomes like a father figure to Rusty. When he leaves to join the clans, tiger joins him to keep an eye on him. I imagine he heard some stories of the forest from pine, but he doesn't rly remember his time there.
Other cats remember him tho, and that gives the both of them some credibility when they join the clan. For the au ig Redtail would still be alive. Ravenpaw would also have different mentor. Oo maybe Spottedleaf. I always liked the idea of medcat ravenpaw.
Tiger becomes an apprentice too, even those he's an adult. He looks after Firepaw, and calls Sandpaw and Dustpaw out on their bullying.
I like to think Tiger would get the suffix foot after his mom. Maybe he still goes evil in the au or something. Could be really dramatic having Fireheart/star fighting his father figure. Especially in the df battle.
Scourge probably wouldn't exist since Tigerpaw wasn't there to beat him up lmao. Redtail wouldn't die, but maybe he could later like Whitestorm. Ravenpaw probably wouldn't leave, but he'd be a medcat. First appreciated by Spottedleaf, and then Yellowfang. Brokenstar would probably be the main bad guy. Redtail and Tiger get to be besties cause why not.
