I've rewatched this damn show like 50 times or more at this point and still I find myself always watching Charles even if he isn't the "focus" of the scene because not only is he always lurking and observing but he's also REACTING. Like, full face reactions at all times.

Mel is the textbook example of how black female characters are treated in fandom. This is not to say that there are not people who love her or appreciate her character in all of its facets.

I'm just scratching my head at some of the takes on her character that feels, to me, like a gross misrepresentation of who she is and how she is presented in the show.

It is true that she is a politician. It is true that she knows how to navigate social situations. She was raised by Ambessa! She knows the tricks of the game better than anyone! But then I see people calling her manipulative? And then feel vindicated by Jayce screaming at her (unnecessarily so, btw bc that scene was SO crazy) that she was manipulative (when by the way, we all agree Jayce was not in his right state of mind at the time and then apologized afterwards because he realized he crashed out on her for no reason). When she... never has been manipulative?

So if someone sees your potential, and wants to see it flourish, is that manipulative?

Jayce LITERALLY wanted her to take a chance on his and viktor's project. It was MUTUALL BENEFICIAL for Mel to help Jayce posit himself in a position of power that would get him better access to the resources he needed to get where he wanted to go.

That's not manipulation. That's investment.

Mel is a complex, black female character. It is not to say she is perfect. She's not. She has her flaws but one of those flaws is NOT manipulation and I cast a side eye at people who think Ambessa is a great, well-written character and then think Mel is not. I have to. Because Ambessa is written to be aggressive, and cold, and strong, and tough--even her design emulates this rough edge. And I HAVE to think, why do I see people write essays on how bad Mel is but not Ambessa? Is it because Ambessa carries character traits that are more palatable to a non-black audience?? Character traits that more align with people's subconscious associations with blackness?

ANYWAYS.... I'M YAPPING. I could go on about how Mel is soft, and kind, and strong, and her character arc is about finding out who she is not as a child of Ambessa or an exiled daughter, but who is MEL MEDARDA, and what do you do with this newfound discovery. What do you do in the wake of grieving your mother who died by your hand?

I could go on. But I am so tired of seeing posts dogging Mel and taking scenes out of context and if Mel was a MAN.... I don't think she'd get half this flack. And if Mel was a WHITE MAN......... LMAOOOOO.

I don't think I'll draw this out but 2 routes we can go for this Raeda ship.

Route 1: This will be Eda and Raine's first time meeting at their job. It's Eda's first day and Lilith offers to show her around the office. She sees Raine talking to someone during their lunch break. Either Raine has something on them that makes Eda go like "Hello? 👀 we have similar interests?" or "Oh?? U look cool. I wanna talk to you"

OR! flip the script, we're following Raine's pov and they have a BIG crush on Eda. Altho Raine is very put together, they're clumsy or freeze up when trying to chat w/ Eda.

Route 2: They have not seen one another since high school. It's been several decades since they last saw one another. I haven't thought too long on this but I'm curious abt this idea. Did one of them had a crush on the other during high school? Or both? Maybe they had a huge fight and now working together they see they've grown since those school days.

the teacher's assistant from your biology class has you bent over one of the desks in the front of the lecture room, fingers glossing over your dripping folds. you almost feel like a test subject or an animal at a zoo with the way he's observing and prodding at you. but that's what makes it all the more exhilarating.

"oh? really? is that why you always linger after class? or why you ask me all those questions even though you always do well on your tests?" sunoo chuckles lowly, pressing his finger forward, letting your gummy walls suck him in.

"i-i just wanted to talk to you-to get you to notice me," groaning, you purposefully clench around his digit, wishing he would hurry up with all the teasing and stuff you full the way you want and deserve.

"oh i definitely noticed," he coos, "but don't stop the act. it's cute. keep seeing me after classes. you're gonna need some extra tutoring after today." he inserts a second digit, sighing at the way your body takes him so easily.

"gonna fuck you until the only word you remember is my name," he murmurs. his fingers leave your cunt and you hear the sound of him undoing his belt. turning to look over your shoulder, you half expect to see the man frantically pulling at his clothes to free himself. instead, you see his gaze already locked on you, his hands moving slowly and deliberately. you turn to face ahead of you again, biting your bottom lip with anticipation just before sunoo pushes himself inside you.

It's a Soulless that hurts them?  The monster barely gets a swipe in before Vere is on it.  He's ripping it apart with his fucking teeth.  He can't stop growling, even after the thing is already dead, blood dripping down his face, splattering his chest, smeared all over his chains.

He's a force of nature - beautiful and deadly in equal measure.  

His ears are going to stay pinned back for a while.  He can't relax.  MC can try to calm him down and comfort him but his disposition won't go back to normal until he's satisfied.  (Satisfied with patching them up, fussing over them in a way that's just this side of an insult.)  He'll take them to bed, but only in the most literal sense.  (He just wants to listen to their heartbeat with his tail wrapped around them until he feels better.)

 . . . But what if it is a human who does it? Say, someone from the Senobium… 

Vere wants to blot them from the face of the earth but he can't.  Not with the collar on.  He has to resort to trickery or manipulation if he wants MC's assailant to stop.

 (And he has to act unaffected.  He can't let on…)

 It's absolutely maddening because he could squash their attacker like a bug if he wasn't so chained.  He wouldn't have to watch this happen if -- he shouldn't have to watch this happen, they're his -- but he can't stop it, not the way he wants to.  His hackles are up.  His claws absolutely itch with the need to tear this vermin to shreds.  His handlers will write it off as hunger, blood lust.  (They'll be right, if only partially.)

Bonus Points: Vere seeks Kuras' help willingly in order to save MC's life.

 The MC getting grievously injured…

Vere picking them up bridal style and carrying them to Kuras' clinic. 

He doesn't wait in the line.  (Not that there's going to be much of a line, people scatter like rats once they see his face.)  

He'll break down the goddamn door if he has to.  He doesn't say a word, just snarls at Kuras and refuses to be removed from the room while MC is treated.

 (Does he fume in the corner the whole time?  Or does he hover near Kuras, distrusting the angel, accepting the proximity despite his distaste?)

 Kuras doesn't say anything either.  He just gets to work.
