me in a rocking chair explaining against anyone listenings will about how desmond got his name from my long standing love affair with the older AC games
#YOU SEE.....#it might seem straight forward that i just took desmond miles name#but actually yes but also no#BACK IN MY DAY#the first AC save file was automatically named desmond#and it was the first series of games i ever purchased#so i just used desmond as my default save file name for every game after that#and then started using variations of the name anytime a game made me name a character#then eventually#i was asked to join a dnd game and i was like lol idk this will surely not be more than a passing fancy#so ill just use my save file default name#wrong#wrong wrong wrong#i do think its funny that since then ive seen desmond is apparently a pretty popular NPC name in a LOT of fiction

I just think everyone should take a moment to consider the question "what is your visual shorthand for cruelty?" and then follow it up with a critical "and who taught you that?"
specific examples include but are not limited to
why is an evil timeline character design disabled? (why do the heroes go through equally punishing battles and never lose an arm, a leg, an eye?)
why are the futuristic scifi terrorists uniformly darker skinned? (why are the heroes so much lighter?)
why is the greedy boss fat? (why are the heroes skinny?)
why is the criminal mastermind heavily scarred? (why is the brooding, traumatized hero unscathed?)
why is the predatory creep a bearded person in a dress and makeup? (why are none of the heroes trans women?)
who taught you that this is how things are?
how long do you plan on repeating it?
