I find it hard to explain why, but it makes me happy seeing Laura's "oh my god, you dumbass" moments. I guess because it shows her progress, in a weird sorta way. She's not the perfect, ultra-efficient assassin she was forced to be anymore. X-23 would not have missed that. X-23 would have known at what point not to try. Hell, there's a pretty good moment from X-Force to demonstrate my point:

Rahne's been taken prisoner here, and Laura has already pushed their luck far enough to get her shot in the leg without any regard for Rahne's pain or peril, because, as she told Logan and James later, "saving Wolfsbane was not [her] mission." She blew up the whole church, risking both Warpath and Wolfsbane's lives, chased with single-minded focus on her one objective, and then stopped short when it looked like a lost cause, no extra determination on behalf of the teammate in need of help.

Laura in Deadly Regenesis, meanwhile, is doing everything she does in the name of helping people that Kimura has life-and-death leverage on. She's trying to help a person she was once made to hurt heal and break free of their viscous cycle of pain and self-destruction. She makes that jump, while her healing factor is compromised, because she knew she had to try to stop Kingpin, for the sake of countless lives he has and will continue to ruin. And in so doing, she missed. She got hurt. But she still did good, and she kept on trying till the last possible second to do more.

Just finished X-23: Deadly Regenesis (over a year after it finished, I know, I know, I'm a fake fan) and honestly? Pretty disappointing. Doesn't really add anything, and I'm unclear as to when it's even supposed to take place, even though it's ostensibly in the title.

X-23 Deadly Regenesis #4

There’s something so satisfying about seeing the words, “The Twin Cities” in text in a comic book. We never get this kind of midwest stuff and I’m all for it!! The comic was pretty solid overall. I dig the ways the Laura is refusing to kill. It’s smart. I’m excited to see where the story goes next!
