Invest In Your Well-Being: The Powerful Benefits Of Regular Medical Check-Ups
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to overlook the importance of regular medical check-up.
Tumblr media
However, investing in your well-being through routine health screening can bring about many benefits that extend far beyond just a clean bill of health. Let's delve into the powerful advantages of prioritizing regular medical check-ups.
1. Preventive Care: Building A Strong Foundation For Health
Prevention is the cornerstone of good health, and regular medical check-ups are pivotal in identifying potential health issues before they escalate.
Through routine screenings, healthcare professionals can detect early warning signs of hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol imbalances.
By addressing these issues in their infancy, individuals can take proactive steps to prevent developing more serious health problems.
2. Early Detection Saves Lives
Early detection is often synonymous with successful treatment. Regular medical check-ups enable healthcare providers to identify health concerns at their earliest stages when interventions are most effective.
Conditions like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes can be more manageable and have higher survival rates when detected early. Investing time in preventive care can truly be a lifesaving decision.
3. Tailored Health Plans: Personalized Care For You
Every individual is unique, and their health needs can vary significantly. Regular medical check-ups allow healthcare professionals to create personalized health plans based on an individual's medical history, family background, and lifestyle.
This tailored approach ensures that health interventions align precisely with the individual's specific needs, promoting better outcomes and long-term well-being.
4. Cost-Effective In The Long Run
While some may view medical check-ups as an expense, they are, in fact, an investment that can save money in the long run.
Preventing the development of chronic diseases or catching them early can result in fewer medical interventions, reduced hospitalizations, and lower overall healthcare costs.
Regular check-ups contribute to maintaining good health preventing expensive medical crises that may arise from neglect.
5. Peace Of Mind: Reducing Health Anxiety
The peace of mind that comes with a clean bill of health is invaluable. Regular check-ups not only identify potential health issues but also provide reassurance for those who are in good health.
This peace of mind can positively impact mental well-being, reducing health-related anxiety and stress.
Knowing that you are taking proactive steps toward your health can contribute to an overall sense of security and happiness.
6. Building A Healthier Future
Investing in regular medical check-ups is not just about the present; it's about securing a healthier future. By adopting a proactive approach to health, individuals can create a foundation for long-term well-being.
Healthy habits, early interventions, and preventive care set the stage for a vibrant and active life well into old age.
Conclusion
Regular medical check-ups are a vital part of maintaining good health and well-being. They provide preventive care, facilitate early detection of health issues, offer personalized health plans, save money in the long run, reduce health anxiety, and contribute to building a healthier future.

hullo, thanks for requesting this! i unfortunately dont write for katakuri but i added law and ace to the mix, i hope it's fine! enjoy this lil headcanons, i loved writing these!! also, using this as a chance to restate that requests are open!
warning: none. gn! reader.
feel free to reblog, like, and leave a comment. i would very much appreciate it. if you enjoy my works, click here to read more or buy me a coffee.
Luffy: All it takes is a glare. It doesn't take long for Luffy to recognise the sparkle in your eyes. He feels it too; the tension building in your muscles, the adrenaline rising up in your veins making your heart beat ten times faster than usual. Lowering his straw-hat to cover his eyes, Luffy simply chuckles in response. He knows your potential and he is curious of the limits your able to reach and break. He takes this as a good opportunity to train and test your powers; nevertheless, he is watching your back and ready to step in.
Sanji: Sanji smirks and lights up a cigarette, making himself comfortable and untying his tie. He knows well that whoever crosses your path is in real danger - and he brags about it whenever he has the occasion to. He is overly proud of you; plus, winning a fight would always guarantee a special treatment from him. Preparing your favourite meal, smothering you in kisses, an endless ramble of praises. He enjoys the fight, making sure you don't get hurt as he meticulously observe your combat moves.
Zoro: Zoro tries to make you back off. Despite his love and respect for you, he would rather let you stay away from the battlefield. He is aware of your combat abilities, he just thinks it would be easier if you'd let his swords deal with it. Nevertheless, it's easy to convince him if you buy him an extra bottle of booze. After all, despite his protective instincts, he enjoys a partner who can fight and protect themselves. Seeing you go feral and win a fight always tickles his senses.. so you might be in for a good, particularly nasty training session afterwards.
additional characters:
Law: Law definitely doesn't approve your conflictual nature. Although he is a little trouble maker himself, he prefers approaching things, and fights, in a more methodical way - having a precise strategy, and more importantly, a reason. Getting caught up in a worthless fight would mean catching the marine's attention, and that would be dangerous. When he sees you joining the battlefield regardless, he sighs and stands back. But if you manage to get hurt.. be ready to hear him grumble under his breath about irresponsible you were as he medicates you.
Ace: You and Ace would meet looks, the same impulsive idea running through the synapses of your brain. He nods in response, a clever smirk drawing on his lips as he transforms the ramble in a challenge.
"First one to land a punch wins."
Usopp: Tries to discourage you from it. He knows you would be perfectly able to win the fight - but he also knows he would struggle to help you. Your fearless nature worries Usopp, and sometimes it makes him wonder how the two of you get so along. Dangerous situation fuel you, whilst he prefers running from them. Usopp would never give you the permission to battle someone if the situation permits a safe escape - a long, frustrated sighs is the only slightly positive answer you could receive. And when you jump head first in the battle, he whines and snorts, ready to snipe the enemy if the situation escalates.

The ones we leave behind
sully family x reader + tarsem/tsu’tey/ mo’at
Tumblr media
Among the navi people family was everything every child was love by their parents and cared for throughout out their lives. Family is the strong hold among each individual navi, but what happens when there is a child that hasn't revived the same love and care as others around. The effect of getting less love and support will effect a child over time, but what happens when the action of the parents and other adults around have effect them so, much that it will soon lead the child on a different path.verse everyone else. The feeling of being left behind will be a permit memory that will affect their childhood, what happens when it happens to a sully family member.
y/n " ......" you are the human daughter of Jake and neytiri unlike your other siblings you had been born human, and had spent most of your childhood as human no avatar body. The day of your birth had effect your parents and everyone in the clan, as it was shown the sky demons still were here.
y/n " guys come sit down and relax" you were looking at your siblings as they were all worked up for the events, that had unfolded today. As your siblings had gone out with spider and ran into old enemies, that were believed to be dead had come back to life. You are with them trying to comfort them as they none of them seem to be doing well, at the moment.
kiri " is spider going to be okay"
y/n " spider will be fine kiri norm and max are attending to him, he just need some medical care and rest" kiri soon nods her head and sat down next to you.
lo'ak " I think dad will blame me I was the one who decided to go there"
y/n " baby brother is not your fault no one knew they will come with avatar bodies"
neteyam " dad and mom have been in that meeting with grandmother and the council for a long time, he didn't even let me attend the meeting"
y/n " it going to be okay teyam when the meeting over dad will share what will happen next"
tuk " y/n I'm scared"
y/n " dont worry tuk everything will be okay, we are here to keep you safe and so are mom and dad" you brought tuk into a embrace making her smile towards you and you smile back at her.
y/n " dad what has happened" Soon enough Jake and neytiri had shown themselves, either one of them looking happy.
Jake " no now y/n there is new we have to share with the clan, we can speak later" you have a good relationship with your parents but you were not close to them like your siblings, and there were times when you felt like out of situations.
y/n " yes sir ...mom is there anything I can do for you or the family"
neytiri " ....." neytiri didnt pay any attention to you and soon walk towards your siblings. She seem very overwhelmed at the moment as she was scared about everything that had happened.
y/n " mom I can make the family something to eat or help around the house"
neytiri " no please do nothing" neytiti have you a cold look you didnt know if she meant it or not.
kiri " sis can you come with me to see spider or check up on him"
y/n " sure we can go and see him maybe we can all go as a family"
neytiri " no you all stay here and that is finally you can see that boy some other time or y/n can update you on him" neytiri soon picked up tuk and walked into the home with her, the older kids had stayed with you. Talking about anything to light up the mood even getting spider on com link was well, soon that all ended when a meeting was called for the clan by your father.
Jake " I have called this meeting to state the situation that had happened earlier today.... today children of our clan and human child life had bene out in danger, as enemies from our best have come back and now look like us" gasp had been heard from everyone as they were listening to Jake words.
Jake " I'm sad to share this new but the clan most leave we are no longer safe here, we all most leave and seek shelter else where until the demons are gone"
neteyam " what we are leaving"
Jake " we will head towards the sea clans where will be safe from harm, we can't stay here we have to think about the clan children and their safe"
Jake " will we have to leave our homes and ways of life but we will be back when the time right, but we most think what the best for our families and ourselves"
mo'at " Jake sully is right we will have to leave but one day will come home"
Jake " this decision is heavy on my heart as well my people we all love the forest and what she has to offer, but we most leave to keep her safe ... this decision is finally and I hope in time you all can forgive me for making this chose" there was no debating Jake on that as he was right once the meeting was over, everyone started getting ready to leave in couple days.
y/n " almost done just need to make sure everything alright"
Tarsem " so we are really are leaving"
y/n " tarsem yes we are it will be sad to no longer run around here and live our lives but it for the best" you and tarsem are best friends and have been close since you two were very young.
Tarsem " I came to see how you are holding up I saw you were very worried about your family and wish to go with your parents"
y/n " I'm good thank you for asking but you should be worried about my family more then me"
tarsem " always thinking of other but there has to be other worrying about you" you smile toward tarsem he would always come check on you after battles or hard situations.
Jake " y/n"
y/n " dad"
tarsem " olo'eythan Jake sully hello"
Jake " it okay young man I have come here to bring my daughter home there is something I most share with her and her siblings"
tarsem " yes sir I will see you later y/n maybe I can help you pack"
y/n " sure I will love that offer" Tarsem soon walked off looking at you one last time as you waved at him and smiled.
Jake " come on let head home there is something I need to speak with you and your siblings about" you had nodded your head and followed your father, soon getting back to the village and see your family gather together.
tuk " sis you come to dinner"
y/n " well dad said he had something to speak with us all about"
Jake " everyone sit down there is something I need to speak with you all about" you soon sat down with your siblings give some dinner as well, soon Jake and neytiri were suiting together.
Jake " we will be leaving in a couple days so I will need you all to pull your weight around here"
the kids " yes sir"
y/n " dad the scientist have started packing some of the stuff for travel we were wondering how that was going to go" Jake and neytiri soon looked at each other and soon at you.
Jake " y/n there is something I need to tell you"
y/n " oh okay dad you have my whole attention"
Jake " you will not be coming with us to the reef clans"
y/n " what"
neteyam " dad if she can't ride with you or mom she can ride with one of us or tarsem, it will be fine we will come up with a way to take her and everyone else"
kiri " yes we will find out a way so she can come with us we, so you and mom are not overworking yourselves"
Jake " kids that not the matter but there a bigger matter to address"
lo'ak " what tell us what the matter that our sister can't come with us"
neytiri " it because your sister is born human unlike your all she not navi, and it will be hard to get the clans to help us ... they already don't like human as they have been hunting over there and destroying there ways to life ... one human will be fine but to many will be bad news"
tuk " why don't we give her any avatar body like uncle noir that will slove everything"
neytiri " no we can't"
tuk " why"
y/n " because they don't have the resource and it will take to much time"
Jake " time we don't have kids"
neteyam " come on there have to be an avatar body for her and the there, did you all not making one when she was baby so it will grow over time"
Jake " we become busy and other stuff got involved I and your mom were already overwhelm of everyone else that was happening"
lo'ak " meaning you didnt care to do anything about it and forgot"
neytiri " no we become busy our family and clan need us and we have to chose the right decisions"
kiri " that not fair to y/n or anyone else"
Jake " kids we all know you are upset but we are sorry, we had to do what was best and look now you sister has lived a amazing life as human she one of us" kiri and Lo'ak looked at you and knew that you had face bullying for being te freak child of toruk makto.
y/n " wait so you are leaving me behind here all on my own"
Jake " you will not be alone you will have norm and spider alomg with everyone else, they will take care of you"
y/n " I want to be with you and mom along with my siblings... please dad don't leave me like this don't leave everyone else like this"
Jake " enough y/n"
y/n " I'm your daughter we are sully we stick together that what you told us"
neytiri " chid respect your father"
y/n " mom and dad I do respect you all but you can't just leave us like that it unfair ...."
Jake " I said enough and I mean it young lady you are almost an adult it time you learn to take care of yourself, and learn to be an independent adult and not some spoiled brat .... you selfishness is now effecting your siblings as they will refuse to leave and soon enough the rest of the clan will follow"
y/n " dad ..."
Jake " no you will listen here right now young lady .... this is what bets for the clan I know you are upset and mad but what is done is done., I don't wish for this but I most happen for the good of the family and good of the clan ... we will be apart of months or weeks but we will soon be together again"
y/n " yes sir I'm sorry"
neytiri " look we know you are asking alot form you right now, but you most do what best for the people and they will see you as one of us"
y/n " yes ma'am"
Jake " I will tell norm and the others as well but we need you all to act mature on this matter, no harm will come to any of you I know that and I think it will be for the best ... it will help you grow into a young women and help everyone else as well . hey maybe in time the rda will leave and we can all come home and be a family again"
y/n " ......."
Jake " look you can me mad at me all you want but I need you to do this for the family, I need you to be mature right now and take this for the family"
y/n " yes sir I understand" the rest of the family dinner was silent you didn't eat that much as you felt sick to your stomach, later on after the meal you headed home with your parents. No words had been spoken as you are coming to terms with everything.
Norm " hey welcome home kid and hey Jake and neytiri welcome back, came to make sure y/n made it home safe"
Jake " yes we want to make sure our daughter was okay"
norm " that sweet well we have some of the stuff already pack we don't know about everything else yet, we mights have to hide it if we can't take it"
Jake " umm norm I need to speak with you and the rest it important"
norm " sure dude no one has done to bed yet so we have some time to talk"
Jake " thank you" soon everyone had gather for the meeting as everyone was looking at Jake.
Jake " look everyone I know I made the announcement that we will be leaving but I have some sad news to share with you all, so please listen to me"
max " okay Jake what the matter"
Jake " the clan will be leaving in a couple days"
spider " we know mr sully and we are coming up with ways for us to make it out there"
Jake " no I'm sorry to say this but none of you will be coming with us, it will not be good for the clan"
norm " what"
Jake " you all will have to stay here you can't come with us"
Scientist " that rda is hunting us down"
neytiri " they are hunting down the clan children lives are in endanger if we stay, we most leave and seek uturu elsewhere"
Scientist 2 " we are apart of the clan"
neytiri" you are apart of nothing just friends and the former people of my mate"
max " what about the children y/n and spider they will come with you, right you will not leave you daughter and the kdis best friend here"
y/n " ......"
spider " mr and mrs sully I and y/n are coming as well"
Jake " ......"
spider " oh" spider knew he will not be coming as neytiri and most of the clan hated him for being human and his father as well, he knew some of the clan dislike you as well and you are not that close to neytiri as well.
Jake " the children will have to stay as well they are not navy like the other and don't have an avatar body"
norm " then we can make one for them it will be easy"
Jake " no we can't we don't have enough time for that we most leave before the rda comes"
max " how are they supposed to deal with this they are children"
Jake " they will understand and me mature about it they are about to become adults, they know what has to be done and pull their weight"
Scientist 4 " speaking of the rda we help you fight them we all turn down the offer to betray you all, and have been marked as traitors if we are caught it over for us ... think about y/n and spider they are innocent and teens"
Jake " it will be okay"
Scientist " coming from the one who will not bed here she your daughter you will leave her for the rda and anything else out here to hurt here"
Jake " enough it my decision I'm the reason you all are still allowed near the village, okay what I say is finally nothing can change my mind"
norm " not even the words of you own daughter know her she fought you on this right she know it wrong, you can't just leave her like this or spider what will happen to them"
neytiri " they will learn and adapt ... it for the best you humans are being selfish think about the children of the clan think about my kids"
max " we are thinking about your kids one of them is here"
neytiri " I'm done talking none of you are coming until future notice" neytiri soon stormed away saying nothing else as she left she didn't, even say goodnight to you at all.
Jake " look we will be leaving in a couple of days I will try my best to ask for you all to come with us, but it might be weeks and months until then ..... I know you all will be okay and will make it through this"
norm " ......."
Jake " look we all most do what best for the clan and I'm making the decisions I need to keep my family and clan safe I hope you all will understand some day, when you walk in my footsteps I will tell everyone in the clan later I will see you all later ... I most go be with my wife and children" Jake soon left heading home not even looking back you soon felt tears rushing down your face, it seems like you were not their children.
norm " don't let them get you kiddo you have us"
y/n " thanks uncle norm"
spider " we are going to need each other for what going to come" no one went to bed that night happy, and for the next couple days there was tension between humans and navi. As some of the navi hated the idea of leaving their human allies here to fight against rda alone, while big amount thought the humans were selfish on trying to change Jake mind about his decision. That the end of the day there was not changing what had bene done the humans were staying and everyone else was leaving of the clan. None of your siblings and tarsem wish to leave you, and that you blamed by the clan and your parents.
y/n " we will not see each other for a every long time" you are with your sibling and tarsem that day they were levaing.
tuk " I'm going to miss you big sister"
y/n " I'm going to miss you as well honey but we will still be sisters"
kiri " take care we will make sure you join us soon we will not forget you"
y/n " I know but I wish for you guess to live you best lives for me"
spider " me as well I want you all to still have fun and tell me all about it when we see each other again"
lo'ak " you all be well as well"
neteyam " yes take care"
tarsem " life will not be the same without any of you and it sad not that many are saying goodbye"
mo'at " they have made their decision and this might effect many future relationships, I have left some stuff for you all to survive on there were any other stuff left as well by other of the clan"
y/n " thank you grandmother"
tuk " where is mama and daddy ar they going to say goodbye to you and everyone else"
y/n " it okay tuk they are both busy"
lo'ak " to busy to say goodbye to their daughter"
y/n:" it okay"
Jake " everyone hurry up we are leaving" you soon hugged everyone goodbye one last time, there were no more goodbye from the rest of the clan or your parents but you learned to accept it.
later that night
max " these plans will work fine if anything bad happens"
norm " yes"
y/n " it seems like everyone has found something to do for the evening"
spider " it better then walking around here acting all hurt about everything that happened"
y/n " maybe tomorrow we can go find all the stuff that was left behind as we are going to need it"
norm " I'm proud of you y/n acting mature and helping everyone around, even your spider taking command of stuff and helping you two will to great stuff when you are older" soon an alarm had gone off getting everyone attention.
y/n " come on lets go see what the matter"
spider " on it" soon you and spider had gone outside to see what was the matter when you heard something moving.
y/n " come out and state your business of my friend here will show you his still with arrow and bow"
????? "it me y/n I mean no harm" you soon saw tarsem, tsu'tey, and avroke standing there.
norm " what are you three doing here"
y/n " please don't tell me something bad happen to the clan"
tarsem " no we came here to be with you all we count leave you all like this"
spider " wow"
tsu'tey " we are here to help you are all going to need it"
avroke " we are going to make sure nothing bad happens, you all have given up enough and now we wish to pay you all back for everything that happened"
norm " well we can talk about this more in the morning there was some tents you all can us" everyone else had walked away expect you and tarsem.
y/n " thank you for coming back but anytime you feel like leave you can I understand, I want you to leave your best life"
tarsem " I will never leave as I'm already living my best life" you soon smile towards tarsem and soon walked off with him after the others. Your heart was still broken about everything that happened between your family and the clan. Things will never be the same ever again between child and parents, and navi and humans. Some relationships will be fixed and while other relationship will stayed damages forever. Now you were walking down your own path and only time will tell what is on this path for you and what will become of you in the future along with milestones you will archive as well. The great mother was watching over you and you were hoping that life will bless you well.

Doctor!Kai eagerly awaits your arrival on Monday. You get to the office with fifteen minutes to spare, effortlessly early. He’s impressed by your respect for deadlines. You’re already well exceeding his expectations.
He has you change into a standard white gown. He leaves the office while you strip, as per procedure. Unbeknownst to you, he leaves the webcam on his pc running. It records you removing your shirt and pants. Next come your bra and panties. When you’re done, you hop onto the examination table and wait for his arrival. He knocks shortly after. You permit him to enter. It’s the illusion of privacy that causes a smirk to dance across his jaw, thankfully concealed by his mask.
He tells you he’s going to give you a physical, from head to toe. He has you stand up. He snaps a fresh pair of gloves on your hands. They’re thin. He can almost feel your skin as he clasps your wrists and glides up your forearms. He stops at your shoulders. They’re stiff. Gingerly, he gives them a good squeeze. You groan lowly, music to his depraved ears. It causes a burst of lust to erupt in his lions, driving his hands to continue their journey.
His thumbs settle on the front of your throat. He presses down. Nothing. He presses a little harder. Your eyes widen and your pupils dilate; he restricted your airflow. His member nudges against his slacks. He ignores the discomfort. He explains to you that he’s testing how effectively oxygen enters and leaves your lungs; it’s really because he wants to see what it feels like to hold your life between his powerful fingers. He’s killed many men with these hands, but he would never kill you.
He requests that you lie down on the examination table and spread your legs. You ask him why. Full of questions, you are. He chides you for not being willing to work on your physical wellness. Do you really think baking in the sun all day is healthy? No. It’s not. Now, stop arguing with him and climb onto the sheet. Sheepishly, you do as you’re told, thinking he’s merely looking out for you. It’s a tactic he’ll use more than once during your visits together.
Doctor!Kai removes his old gloves and straps on a pair of new ones. He latches your ankles into a pair of stirrups. He doesn’t miss how you gulp. Scared, are we? Well, you have nothing to fear with him, so long as you’ve been good.
He reviews your medical chart and verifies your current ailments. Maybe you have a chronic illness. Maybe you don’t. It doesn’t matter. What matters to him is your sex life. He dips down to spread the lips of your pussy with his index and middle fingers. It’s glistening with some of your juices. He fights the urge to ask if you always get turned on by your doctor. Instead, he uses his other hand to twist a single digit into your cavern. There’s some resistance — not much. He’s able to go halfway before you pipe off. He thinks that’s a good length.
When you feel his knuckles graze your puffy lips, you gasp and ask him, again, why he has to do this. He turns his head around to face you, honey-like orbs boring into yours own. He’s doing this because he wants to ensure you’re clean enough for him. But he doesn’t say that. He’s doing this to get a taste of your body the only way he knows how. But he doesn’t say that. He lies to you tells you it’s the only way to check for cysts and the like, which are prone to arise with exposure to heat. You soften up at that, apologizing for being irrational, and permitting him to do as he pleases. He smiles gingerly. Good. Maybe he won’t have to tie you down this visit. It’s nice to know you can take direction without him having to be outwardly firm. You’re already shaping up to be a fine future wife for him.
The physician finishes in the next ten minutes, after he spends time inspecting every inch of your pretty body. As he’s about to leave the examination room, he comments that you were better for him than when you started, and that you ought to be calmer during these visits. You perk up at his words. Visits? You thought this was a once in a while thing. He takes great pleasure in disclosing that he found something to be concerned about during your physical. Due to that, it looks like you’ll be one of his biweekly patients moving forward.
Despite the horror on your harrowed face, he doesn’t extrapolate any further. Every single emotion he can rouse, and every single behaviour he can elicit, is a small step towards conditioning you. Your personality is susceptible to manipulation. He reasons that if he doesn’t claim you, one of these disgusting farm boys in these fields will — and he can’t have that.

Daily update post:
Two independent terrorist attacks against Israelis took place over the last 24 hours. Yesterday, a Hamas terrorist stabbed in the back a 49 years old Israeli reserves soldier, who stopped to buy something at a shop in a gas station, on his way home. The soldier turned around and, despite being injured, pursued the terrorist, shot and wounded him. The terrorist was later arrested, he had a permit to work in Israel. In the second one, a terrorist started shooting at civilian vehicles passing by, and ended up injuring a 27 years old woman. Thankfully, a baby who is 1.5 months old, who was in the car with her, was not injured, despite at least 10 bullets being retrieved from her vehicle. The IDF is searching for the terrorist.
Israeli soldiers have found and confiscated suitcases with 5 million shekels in cash from the home of a senior Hamas terrorist in Gaza. I want everyone to understand that this sum is currently 1,369,507 $ (yes, I checked with professor Google), and that most Israelis will never see that kind of money. I imagine a majority of "privileged" westerners never will, either. And this kind of money was just lying around in this terrorist's home...
Tumblr media
The IDF has exposed and is now in control of what is likely the biggest Hamas terror tunnel. It is about 4 kilometers long (roughly 2.5 miles), and it is wide enough for vehicles to comfortably drive through it. Israeli soldiers have also found footage showing Muhammad Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar, doing exactly that, in addition to footage showing the construction of this terror tunnel...
youtube
I don't post every single day about the Israeli soldiers injured and killed in Gaza, because the truth is that it has become technically difficult and emotionally painful to keep track. Yesterday, five more soldiers were confirmed as killed, one of them having been injured last week, and he has now succumbed to his wounds. So far, 128 soldiers were killed in Gaza.
Last month, there was a cyber attack on Israeli hospital Ziv, trying to derail its medical activity. Israel has confirmed today that it has traced Iran and Hezbollah as responsible for the attack. If we count the cyber war (and in terms of requiring manpower and resources, as well as in terms of the potential loss in human life, there is no reason not to count it), then Israel has been defending its citizens on no less than six fronts.
The Iran-funded terrorist Houthis in Yemen have been attacking ships unconnected to Israel, for simply passing through territory close to Yemen. A lot of shipment companies from around the world have announced they will not be sailing through this area for at least a time, which means they would have to sail all around Africa, to pass goods between the far east and the western world. This will hurt the entire world's economy, as shipment prices are expected to rise (think of the Evergreen ship blockade of the Suez Canal... these ships will not be trying to get anywhere near the canal. Symbolically, Evergreen is one of the companies announcing they will no longer sail through the Red Sea due to the threat of the Houthis). This will financially hurt so many countries, including Egypt (which operates the Suez Canal), the US and China (this means Iran's move has created a rare moment when American and Chinese financial interests align). The biggest question is, when will the world fully take in the fact that the biggest threat to world peace is the Islamist regime in Iran, and start acting accordingly?
This is Haj Amin al-Husseini.
Out of all of the people who helped shape the Israeli-Arab conflict, he's probably the most influential one, an antisemite, a Nazi collaborator, and a believer in pan-Arab nationalism (he didn't want to fight Jews to establish a Palestinian state, he wanted to exterminate the Jews and establish a greater Arab Islamic state, a new chaliphate, if you will. There is a FASCINATING docu series in Israel, dedicated to the Arab and Muslim leaders who have fought Jews and Israel, interviewing intelligence agents from many countries. The ep dedicated to al-Husseini is unbelievable, and I wish everyone could watch it. It's available online, but sadly, only in Hebrew. The truth is, I don't think anyone can understand the Israeli-Arab conflict without understanding the role of al-Husseini in it, and how different things could have been, if only the more moderate Arab leaders in the Land of Israel at the time had managed to squash his influence, or if the British hadn't tried to "tame" him by appointing him to the position of Jerusalem's grand mufti.
This is the Belchassan family, 31 years old Yuval and Ofir, and their two years old son Tai.
Tumblr media
On Oct 7, Yuval left Ofir and Tai to hide in the bomb shelter, and went out to fight off the Hamas terrorists. He and his friends saved their kibbutz, but now, as Ofir is due to give birth to a daughter, they have no home to bring her back to.

How would Dare respond if a basement wife began to isolate themselves/otherwise became noticeably unwell from the psychological trauma of the captivity and Dare being Dare?
Camping trip time. Time to get out into nature, show them some beautiful sights - far the fuck away from anyone else. In a place so isolated the spouse will know full well that running off alone equals death via the elements. Scottish Highlands, most likely. Maybe Lake District. Wouldn't risk putting you on a plane just yet. Only broken spouses get to go to the Great Lakes and Alaska. Reminder that Darius is English, lol, lmfao.
A hobby will be permitted after that. Mostly something harmless, something that you're least likely to hurt yourself or him with. Honestly if you asked him for a pottery table he'd happily put one in his garage for you to use with his supervision (and his tools locked the fuck up). You like plants? As part of the morning routine you and he can do a trip around the house to check on the houseplants he's gotten you, then into the greenhouse out back where he'll let you grow fruit and veg for your meals together. After that, he's off to work and you go back to the basement.
If that doesn't work? Well fuck, here's some antidepressants in your breakfast, hope it works! (They're his prescription, he's severely depressed and will take advantage of it to get you medication but goddamn does he hate talking to Doctors about his mental state. The things he does for love).
If that doesn't work... eh stay miserable then, ya whiny git. He's tried his best to be helpful and empathetic, but if you'd rather handle your health like he does then he won't stop you. He will be sad about the mirror image you're holding up at him every day, though.

Day Four
Author’s Note:This is Day Four Of Hagiel’s Terrible, Awful, No Good Mission. First. Previous. Next.
Tagged: @egrets-not-regrets @the-pure-angel @i-am-a-dragon34 @gallifreyianrosearkytiorsusan @bleedingichorhearts
Warnings: infidelity mention, ask me to tag something if it bothers you/I missed it
Summary: Hagiel learns some information from the Ultramarines and works alongside the mortals repairing the spaceport. Gossip begins to spread at the end of the shift, distracting the mortals, much to Hagiel's frustration.
Hagiel woke up five and a half hours later, a small frown appearing on his face. He had only meant to sleep for four hours. The extra hour and a half was an hour and a half that he could have been doing something in preparation from the Ultramarines’ arrival and inspection of the capital hive city. He muttered a mixture of curses and his morning prayers as he swiftly ate and got into his armor.
Once his helmet was on, he checked his vox for messages, a mixture of uncertainty and hope accompanying this task. Each of the leading mortals on the teams who were repairing the major hospitals had checked in with him.
[This is Marius of Repair team Aleph. All major repairs have been completed on the North-Eastern Hospital. We have left a quarter of the team behind to aid in moving the recently arrived medical equipment in place, and to wait for the paint to arrive to get the hospital back to it’s full-shine state. Heading to the space port to begin assessment and repair. God emperor be praised, lord angel.]
[Amrice of Repair team Besh. Major repairs of the North-West hospital have been completed. We have left half of our team to finish the spit-shine repairs needed and to move bodies out to the cathedral to be sanctified and burned. The rest of us will be focusing on repairing the infrastructure along the east-west corridor on the upper levels. God emperor willing, we will complete this task on time, My Lord.]
[Beliath of repair team Calit. All repairs of the West-Central hospital have been completed. Sending excess paint and tiles over to East-central hospital. Currently working on the infrastructure on the North-south corridors. Those repairs should be completed on the upper levels by the end of the day. Will keep you up to date on timelines, Lord Hagiel]
[Penji of repair team Delta. All external repairs of the South-Eastern hospital have been completed, with the aesthetic repairs to be completed by the end of the day. Currently working on repairing the infrastructure of the mid-levels on the east-west corridor. Will keep you up to date on how repairs are going at shift changes, or if something drastic happens. By him on Terra, we might be able to pull this off, Lord.].
[Jacq of Repair team Elid. Major repairs of the South-western hospital have been completed. Aesthetic repairs postponed due to lack of paint and other supplies. We have been deputized by the Arbites to aid in body-removal and food-distribution. Team in good spirits, Lord Angel. Will update you on when we are free to continue fixing the city.]
[Manek of repair team Falco. All external repairs of the mid-levels hospital have been completed. Aesthetics repair of the hospital projected to be completed by the end of day. Next task will be aiding repair them Gat with repairing of the underhive infrastructure. Will update you as needed, Lord.]
[Ignis of Repair team Gat. All external repairs of the underhive hospital have been completed. Aesthetics repair of the hospital deemed to be low-priority and may be completed if time-permitting. We are currently working on repairing the infrastructure in the underhive. Will update you on how it goes at shift-change, Lord Hagiel]
Hagiel tasted the hope on his tongue at that, but it was tempered by the wariness beating in time with his hearts. Yes, all of this was good news. He had actually been surprised that the Arbites hadn’t deputized more of the repair teams for body disposal and food-distribution… On the other hand, the city desperately needed to look as if it hadn’t been half-destroyed by several xenos factions if they wanted to make at least an unremarkable impression upon the soon to be visiting Ultramarines.
Speaking of the Brothers in Blue, Hagiel took a moment to center himself before checking both his vox, as well as The Resolve’s vox-system, to see if they had sent him any messages updating when they would be arriving. It would be just his luck to receive this much good news, only to find out that instead of having three more days to get the city and people into a semi-functioning state he had three hours before they were arriving… His mouth was very dry as he looked through the Resolve’s vox-logs. They’d seen fit to tell him who specifically, he and the mortals here were going to be playing host to.
By him on Terra!
They were definitely going to need to throw a welcome parade. Not doing so, despite the fact that this city, this system, was reeling and healing from attacks from Orkz, Eldar and Tyranids… There was little chance that the Captain of the second company of the Ultramarines would see anything less than a full welcome-parade and likely a feast in his and his brothers’ honor to be an insult to them… Especially as they were coming here on behalf of the new Regent of the Imperium - whoever the fuck that was. Hagiel wished he had a name, or at least a planet of origin, so as to have a guess as to what they might be like.
The tone of the message strongly implied that the Regent might deign to grace this world with his presence in-person. Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck! He was going to contact Governor Shyrc and Captain-General Qvelt immediately, so that both of them would be able to start preparations for that particular incoming clusterfuck. God-emperor Hagiel hoped that it would be just the Captain of the Second company and a selection of his direct underlings visiting… As laughable as Captain Sicarius being considered just anything. The Maveric captain was well-known for his impressive feats on the battlefield… And infamously short temper and harsh tongue.
He sent a mass-message to the mortal repair team leaders. [Focus efforts on repairing the spaceport and the surrounding infrastructure that will be most visible to our incoming Ultramarine guests. As Captain Sicarius is of noble descent, it is unlikely that he will take much of an interest in seeing the middle-levels or the Underhive.]
The Dark Eldar had landed in the spaceport, and had tried to descend upon the mortals who lived here like the vile parasites of suffering and misery they were. Dozens of his brothers had died valiantly pushing them back to the spaceport and off of this world. He had recovered his brothers’ bodies after the fighting had stopped, but he worried that the Drukhari may have left a nasty surprise or six for them to find while trying to put everything back to rights.
He received acknowledgements from all seven team-leads currently on duty, though with a certain amount of unhappy undertones from those who had been focused on efforts in the mid and lower levels of the hive. Hagiel genuinely wanted all of the city repaired to the best of it’s abilities… But the Lamenter was also trying to be realistic as to what could be completed in the short time frame that they had and limited resources available to them.
His next order of business was to call Qvelt, waiting with as much patience as the God-Emperor was willing to grant him. His call went to voxmail. Granted, it was early in the morning, so Hagiel left him a brief voice message, informing him of Captain Sicarius’ impending visit - and the possibility of the new and deeply mysterious Imperial Regent possibly visiting this city in person as well. Hagiel then vox-called Qvelt, hoping that the captain-general would pick up.
Qvelt did not see fit to answer his vox. With an internal sigh that the Lamenter suppressed from becoming an External one, Hagiel duly informed the current head of the Arbites of this system who was coming to visit for certain, and who he also needed to prepare additional security for, just in case the new Imperial Regent did deign to visit their world. Every time Hagiel said that, a wave of nausea threatened his ability to keep the rations he’d eaten earlier inside his stomach, where they were supposed to be.
God-emperor grant him the patience to deal with mortals. Perhaps they were both simply asleep, and would answer later. Hagiel tried vox-calling both of their second in commands. Elgath did not answer, but Lady Sablescar did.
“Good morning, Lord Hagiel. How may I be of service?” Lady Sablescar asked, the baseline human sounding a little tired.
“I am calling to inform you that we will, unfortunately, be needing to organize and throw a full Welcome parade and banquet for the Ultramarines who are coming to inspect this city. The second company captain and several of his officers are coming… In addition, it was strongly implied that the new Imperial Regent may be deigning to visit us with his retinue as well.” Hagiel explained, an apologetic note in his voice.
All subtle sounds of exhaustion were replaced by an intense and gratifying focus “I see. Has the timeline for their arrival changed at all? I have yet to go through the repair reports, but the projections when I went to sleep last night were promising. As were the reports about handling the minor scuffle in the lower levels. Have you spoken with the Lord Governor, or General Qvelt about this yet?”
“I tried, neither of them answered their vox-messages. Neither would Lieutenant Elgath. I am aware of the early hour of the morning, but I would not be calling if it was not an urgent matter.” Hagiel answered honestly, doing his best to bite back the irritation that bubbled up within his hearts.
“That’s… A little strange. I’ll see what I can do to reach them on my end, as well as begin preparations for the welcome parade and the feast. Just so that I know where you are likely to be, in case you need to be reached, what are your plans for the day, Lord Angel?” Lady Sablescar responded.
Hagiel answered “I will be working alongside repair team Aleph to repair the spaceport and surrounding upper-level infrastructure and buildings, unless something more urgent comes up during the day.” Part of him wondered if he should talk to the Inquisitor… But… Inquisitors. Ugh. No, he would reach out to the other, to be diligent in his duties. Maybe the Lord Inquisitor would also know who the new Imperial Regent is, or find out before they arrive. Or at least get a read on how they intend on ruling the Imperium.
The fact that the Ultramarines seemed to back this new Regent up - as evidenced by Sicarius apparently being at the Regent’s side currently, from the implications that he could read between the lines… It was possible that the new Regent was of Ultramar, rather than one of the Lords of Terra.
“Noted, thank you for informing me, Lord Hagiel. If you’ll excuse me, there is much I need to organize in the next three days - unless the timeline of their arrival has changed?” Sablescar asked.
Hagiel found himself shaking his head as he answered “From what I was told, they are still projected to arrive in three days… It’s just that we may be playing host to not just Ultramarines, but the Regent they are backing as well.”
“... I see. I will send you an update on how preparations are by the end of the day, my lord.” SHe demurred.
“Thank you.” He murmured before hanging up. He paused, looking at his chronometer and huffed, All of this phone calling and people-wrangling had eaten up several hours of his morning that could have been spent rebuilding. But he should contact the Lord Inquisitor anyways. Even though they were pretending to be otherwise.
… Then again, they may not be a full Inquisitor, they were a member of the Inquisition, and from what he had observed, the highest ranking member of the Inquisition still alive within this system. Which was why he was calling one Lady Von Flint, waiting for her to pick up his call.
“Greetings, my lord. What may I do to aid you? I am a humble adminis-” The Inquisitor started.
“Don’t. Don’t start with the whole humble civil servant thing with me. I know that you’re a member of the inquisition. Quite possibly an Inquisitor, as you’re the one who slipped me the Astartes-grade snack at the party earlier this week.” Hagiel answered bluntly “I’m not done speaking yet, so do not interrupt me with lies and denials. Neither of us have the time for it. The Captain of the Second Company of Ultramarines is going to be the one inspecting this city… And possibly the new Imperial Regent as well.”
Von Flint was silent for a frustratingly long period of time before she spoke “I suppose it was teh astartes grade snack that gave me away? While I am aware that the relationship between the Inquisition and your chapter is… Fraught, to say the least, this headsup is a gracious one that I will not forget. I will begin preparations on my end. Do you have any idea as to the identity of this Regent? The frequent warp storms that plague this system make long-range communication incredibly difficult to rely on with any regularity, due to a number of factors that I am sure you are already aware of.”
“Apart from the strong implication that the Regent has the full support of the Ultramarine chapter, along with possibly all of their successor chapters? I don’t know. Captain Sicarius is the head of their bodyguards.” Hagiel informed the Inquisitor quietly. “The regent has apparently been moving from system to system, asking for the loyalties of the Imperial worlds they find there… and if the leaders of those worlds do not bend the knee, they use the might of the Ultramarine fleet to enforce compliance.”
“... Oh… That is… Well. Alright then. I am guessing that, at best, those noncompliant rulers are killed quickly and publicly.” Von Flint managed out, voice trembling for just a moment “Some of my preparations will go towards speaking to Governor Shyrc and the other ruling noble families to strongly consider being very welcoming to the incoming Regent. I am sure that his good sense will prevail over any prideful notions that he may have.”  Von Flint answered. They paused for a moment before answering “I do need to ask this question as while you are a newcomer to this system, you as an Astartes, and one who helped lead our forces to victory when defeat was all but assured… Where do you stand?”
“I have sworn vows to Him on Terra, and to my chapter master. Unless I receive orders from either of those two superior officers, or evidence to suggest that this Regent does not rule because He ordained them to, I will heed the Imperial Regent and swear loyalty to them, as His representative ruler.” Hagiel answered truthfully. He also knew that this was the correct response to give, when speaking to an Inquisitor/a member of the Inquisition. He did have some private reservations, but he would not speak them aloud to anyone, save perhaps a trusted Brother or two… But all of them were dead, or too far away.
“Naturally. Your call has been a surprise but a… A welcome bit of news. I will speak with my network and begin preparations for the Regent’s arrival. Have you informed the Lord Governor, or the Captain-general?” The inquisitor asked curiously.
“I attempted to contact both of them, and their second in commands earlier this morning. Only Lady Sablescar was able or willing to actually answer her vox this morning. If you need to speak with me in person, and I am not answering my vox for whatever reason, I will be aiding in the repair of the spaceport and the damaged surrounding structures and infrastructures. I will have my vox on me, but given the kinds of metals used in the spaceport, the communications aspect of my vox could be interfered with.” Hagiel explained, before asking “Is there anything else that you wanted to talk to me about at this time?”
“Not at this time. I will vox if my network uncovers something urgent to handle that I am unable to handle on my own… Or if I get additional intel on who the New Imperial Regent may be.” Inquisitor Von Flint answered, “May The Emperor’s light guide you.”
“May His LIght guide you as well.” Hagiel answered automatically before ending the vox call. He briefly checks to see whether or not the three high ranking mortals he sent messages off to earlier have tried to contact him while he was speaking with the Inquisitor.
None of them have, which is a little out of character for the three of them, but perhaps they are dealing with supply issues, or another riot has broken out on one of the nearby mining colonies and they are trying to handle that. Hagiel squares his shoulders and heads out to the reconstruction site with swift and purposeful steps.
~
The rest of the morning and afternoon passed in a blur of physical effort and reconstruction, in an unseasonable heat that would have dehydrated the mortals something dangerously, had Hagiel not insisted that they properly take care in the heat, by moving slowly and working in the shade whenever they could, and hydrate frequently. He had pulled on some of the few strings he had in this system in order to ensure that all of the repair teams currently working got the breaks and hydration they needed to not weaken in the heat.
Hagiel’s armor provided all the thermo-regulation that he needed, but he did gratefully accept small sips of cool, refreshing water, as there was only so much recycled sweat one could tolerate before the tang started to turn one’s stomach. Besides, him clearly hydrating and taking small breaks throughout the shift encouraged the mortals to do the same when the liquid rations were being handed out.
The spaceport had taken relatively little damage as the invading Xenos had used it as a staging ground for trying to invade and assault the hive city, which also held true for the surrounding infrastructure. This meant that the repair team that he was working alongside had finished all of the necessary repairs in the surrounding area and in the spaceport itself by the setting of the sun. There had been a tense moment when Hagiel had been called in to disarm several Dark Eldar traps and an unexploded Orky big boomer, but he had been able to skillfully and easily disarm all of the xenos trickery without much difficulty.
With the spaceport and the surrounding structures and infrastructure fully repaired, it had been decided that they would continue to work on fixing the major damaged roads and the like starting from the Space port until it was time for shift-change, whereupon the next group of mortals would take over. Currently, Hagiel was helping to clear away some debris, placing them into a large device that ground up the chunks of road and turned them into new road paving, which the mortals were spreading in the spots that needed patching.
The sun was low in the sky, and there was about an hour or so left before the next shift of mortals relieved this one. Hagiel intended on working until he had to stop for his optimal four hours of sleep, as he still felt bad for oversleeping this morning, and how long it took him to vox-wrangle information to the mortals who needed it most. Not that Governor Shyrc, Captain-general Qvelt nor Lieutenant Elgath had seen fit to actually send him so much as a vox-text acknowledging what he had told them. Part of him was concerned that meant that whatever they were dealing with was a potentially Serious matter… One that the mortals had not seen fit to loop him into.
He was trying to ignore the slowly growing sense of impending Trouble their continued silence gave him, instead focusing on what he could do, what he could control. Which was ensuring that the Ultramarines who were coming to visit had no reasons to nag at him because the Hive City had not received the aid that they needed in order to properly recover from three consecutive Xenos attacks.
One of the mortals had stopped working, stretching and yawning a little before looking over to another and asked “Did you here? Lieutenant Elgath was caught by an Early morning patrol, leaving mister Raskoa’s home, just before sunrise this morning.” They revealed with a small smirk on their face.
“So? He works for the Lord Governor. It was probably some kind of late night meeting for getting the system back into order.” The other mortal pointed out.
“Yeah… Except that he was leaving the house without his pants on and a huge love bite still wet on his neck.” A third mortal chimed in, also smirking “At least, that’s what I heard.”
“Aren’t they of rival noble houses, or something like that?” The first mortal added. None of these mortals were working as diligently as they should be, and their rumor-mongering was starting to attract attention of the rest of the mortals on the repair crew.
“Nah, it’s just that Shyrc and the captain general have hated each other since, like, forever and that kind of fraternization would get them both fired, at minimum.” A fourth mortal chimed in.
“Aren’t both of them married to other people? Infidelity is a sin… Or at least it should be.” Th third mortal huffed, having stopped even pretending to work, their arms crossing over their chest as they leaned a little on the long-handled shovel they’d been using to shift debris.
More mortals were gathering around the gossips distracting them from their tasks.
A sigh left Hagiel as he rolled his shoulders and turned to the gathering crowd of chatty mortals. They had perhaps half an hour before the next shift of mortals arrived… But that was no reason o slack off, in the Space Marine’s personal opinion. It was bad optics for the oncoming shift to see the previous shift in a loose gaggle doing frak-all, rather than working. He was trying to come up with a tactful way to order the mortal to get back to their tasks without coming off as a high-handed asshole. The last thing he wanted to do was to antagonize these mortals three days before the Ultramarines - and maybe the Emperor-blessed Imperial Regent arrived on this world.
The mortals could potentially do a catastrophic amount of damage in that time, and it was not a headache that Hagiel wanted to try and handle. Not when there was already far too much to do and next to no time to do it in.
Before he could speak, the mortal shift leader stomped over, calling out “There better he a good reason all of y’all are standing round talking, rather than working. Did you find another knife-ear trap that the Lord Astartes needs to handle?”
The gathered mortals startled into motion, once again going back to their tasks “We were taking a brief break, ‘cause of the late night heat.” One of the gossipy mortals called out.
The shift-leader harrumped at that “Fine. Break time’s over. You can talk if you want to, but keep working.”
The rest of the mortals answered with a collective “Yes ma’am.” as they all returned to their various tasks.
Hagiel checked his vox-messages via his helmet vox as he continued to shift debris. Von Flint had sent him a message a little over an hour ago. It read,
[Potential political issue has come up. Two high ranking members of opposing political factions have been caught having sex with each other. From my initial investigation, there was nothing Ritualistic or Chaotic to the nature of the sex. Simply two people cheating on their partners at an inopportune and stressful time.]
Thank the god emperor for that. Slaaneshi grox-shite spread really fast amongst the Imperial Elite upon a world, once a cult got established most of the time. To stop the taint spreading further, full execution of all of the ruling mortals was generally needed, alongside their servants who had been exposed and likely tainted (often against their will), which was deeply unfortunate. [Anything you want me to do about the situation?] He sent, letting out a breath of relief. Hopefully that bit of grox-shite was not something that he had to deal with personally, as this sort of internal nonsense was squarely the purview of the Inquisition on non-Chapter worlds, such as this one.
[Not yet, though I thought you should be made aware of it. Both the Governor and the Captain-General are furious about it, but I am attempting to get them to refocus on issues that actually matter… But do I have your support, should I need your assistance in putting this matter to rest?] The inquisitor asked.
Hagiel hesitated for a couple of moments. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to say yes to that, with such a blanket statement from an Inquisitor he did not know. But it wasn’t as if he had many other options, and they needed this issue resolved quickly. [If I say yes, will you be able to get this matter resolved before the Ultramarines arrive? They are known for being highly political and with keen insights. A united front must be able to stand up to their keen-eyed scrutiny… Especially as they have the backing of the Imperial Regent.] He wouldn’t put it past the Ultramarines not to meddle in the affairs of this system if they felt that they could get away with it. The brothers in blue and gold were meddlesome types.
[I should be able to. And you bring up several excellent points that I had not considered. I will bring it up with both Shyrc and Qvelt. This kind of petty nonsense is wasteful and not something we can afford at this sensitive time.] Von Flint texted back. [How goes the rebuilding efforts?]
[Despite the heat, the spaceport and the surrounding structures have been fully repaired. I will be receiving the reports from the day shift leads in roughly ten minutes from now, but I have good reason to suspect that, barring anything unexpectedly unfortunate happening, we will have the city looking back to normal by the time the Ultramarines arrive.] Hagiel texts back. He is hesitant to say such a hopeful statement out loud, given the… Often unfortunate circumstances his brothers in gold often find themselves in, but this sex scandal is exactly the sort of nonsense that happens.
[That is indeed good news. I am off to wrangle unhappy nobles.] Von Flint texted back,
[You have my deepest sympathies, and I wish you well in your endeavors.] Hagiel texted back, before refocusing entirely on the work before him. There was much left to do, but he did have hope that the physical structures of the city would be ready for inspection in time.

If you have mysterious chronic pain and have the means, here's a list of doctors you should see other than your primary and a rheumatologist:
Neurologist and/or sleep specialist
Pain management doctor (also sometimes called pain and spine doctor)
Therapist that specializes in helping physically disabled people (having chronic illness sucks and you need someone to talk to)
Psychiatrist (most people with chronic illness also need psychiatric meds)
Physical therapy or rehabilitation center that specifically has procedures for chronic illnesses. My chiropractor acts as this for me but I'd only recommend that as a last resort. If you have something like fibromyalgia or ehler dahlos syndrome you need to be very careful with how you stretch and how much exercise you do. My chiropractor has special exercise equipment that is very gentle and has a lot of padding to reduce pain.
ENT (Ears, nose, throat doctor)
Nutritionist
A primary care doctor will at most only perform blood tests. Many illnesses do not show up on these blood tests. You want to get checked for rheumatoid arthritis, lyme disease, and lupus. Even if your doctor tells you it's because your vitamin d level or iron is too low, I would still recommend further testing.
They'll most likely refer you to a rheumatologist regardless, but unless you actually have arthritis I wouldn't rely on them too much. Mine charged too much for a 10 minute appointment where all she did was give me meds and would not discuss any other treatment or management options. She also laughed at me when I asked about a mobility device. It might just be I had a bad experience but it seems like those doctors are just given chronic illness patients cause no one else wants them.
You need to get your spine looked at. An MRI is essential. At the very least get an xray of your neck and spine. A neurologist or pain + spine doctor will most likely order one.
Neurologists will check your nerves and brain function. They'll check if your nerves are overly sensitive or unresponsive. You'll get stabbed and shocked a lot.
Pain and spine doctors are the ones who will give you pain medicine. It will not be immediate. They will need to examine you (MRI) and try other medications and treatments first. This is because insurance is not going to pay for stronger drugs until you've exhausted other options. You'll most likely start with something like duloxotine, gabapentin, prescription NSAIDs, and/or muscle relaxers. Once my results came in from the MRI I was given steroid shots in my spine. They will give them in different spots first to see which spot is most effective, so don't worry if it only works one time and not the others. I cannot stress the importance of having this type of doctor on your care team. Being able to have the power to manage my pain has helped so much. This is also the doctor that signed my form for my handicapped parking permit.
Sleep studies are expensive, but sleep is extremely important for your quality of life. So many people have sleep apnea and don't know it. CPAP machines today are really quiet and comfortable. This will be essential for tackling chronic fatigue.
An ENT doctor is only if you end up having sleep apnea or have any issues with your sinuses. I had to go and get my nose fixed because even with my cpap I still wasn't getting enough air.
You need to have some way of moving your body. Only do this after you are already on a treatment plan. It's hard to do things like exercise when you are still dealing with pain and fatigue. Doctors will want you to do physical therapy first but that's not a good idea because you won't stick with it due to pain. You need to deal with the underlying problems before working on stuff like exercise and nutrition. Able bodied young people who don't exercise and don't eat well are not in constant pain, so you shouldn't be either. If they tell you to lose weight drop the doctor, that's a cop out response.
I haven't reached the step to get a nutritionist, but changing what foods you eat and when can really help with pain management. You also may find that something you eat is exacerbating your symptoms.
With my insurance plan I can pretty much call up a doctor and make an appointment without a referral. I know some plans need referrals, so either call your insurance for one or get your primary care doctor to give you one. Idk how this works for medicare but I think you can just make an appointment with anyone who takes medicare.
I have not been able to obtain a script for a mobility device from any of my doctors. If you have a type of doctor you'd recommend for that please chime in. I've heard occupational therapists are the way to go though but still need to look into that myself.
Also do not feel bad if you cannot afford these. It is not your fault. Healthcare especially in the USA fucking sucks. This is mostly only useful for people who are in the investigative stage who have insurance. I'm not saying "oh just do yoga". Your pain is not your fault, and it can take a long time to figure out a plan that's right for you. I didn't know what doctors I was supposed to see when I started out, and was just given to a rheumatologist since there isn't a fibromyalgia doctor. I only had blood tests at that point. Hopefully this helps people save time and make sure they can fully investigate the cause of their pain (or at least how to manage it better)

Kitty (part 9)
Parts 1-8 here. Rei x (afab) reader, usual fluff but also... Warnings: Implied gun violence, kidnapping, blood, panic attacks
This chapter is suuuper long, so buckle up! --
Kazuki and Rei get assigned some reconnaissance work from Kyu that takes place over the weekend and into the early week. You reassure the blonde you’re perfectly happy to watch over Miri whilst they’re out, keeping her entertained and fed as they spend the next three days on the job. They’re up early and back late, but Rei sends you sweet text messages to check in whenever he can.
It’s now early Tuesday afternoon – Kazuki dropped off the information to Kyu this morning, and you’re working on the breakfast and lunch dishes with Kazuki. Rei is tackling the folding of the laundry, though Kazuki is keeping a close eye.
As you dip a pan in the hot, soapy water, a sharp pain shoots through your head and you let go, instinctively rubbing the side of your head when you flinch – it’s the telltale beginning of a headache.
“You okay there, Kitty?” Kazuki questions, a cloth in hand as he dries. You nod your head, continuing the therapeutic scrubbing of the pans but he’s leaning forward now, trying to get a good look at you. “You’re looking a little flush.”
The back of his hand is suddenly pressed on your forehead. “Huh, you’re feeling a little bit warm too.”
“A fever?” Rei questions over his shoulder.
You shake your head, “No, I f-feel okay,” but another pain twinges through your head, ruining your performance. The two men stare at you. “OK, maybe m-my head hurts a l-little, b-but it’s f-fine.”
Kazuki side-steps between you and the sink now and hands you a cloth to dry off your hands. “Go sit down. I’ll get the thermometer.”
You nod, walking around the counter to go sit on the couch, unsure why but it’s obvious that Kazuki isn’t going to let you bluff your way out of it. You’d always worked through illnesses in the past, he was hardly going to give you a day off.
Moments later, Kazuki is kneeling down in front of you, asking you to stick the thermometer under your tongue. There’s a beep and he muses over the results, Rei hovering over his shoulder. “Temperature’s running a little high, but only a little. I still think it’s the beginning of a fever. It must be something from daycare, Ms Anna warned there was something going around.”
“Should we go to hospital?”
Kazuki smiles at his room-mate’s concern. “It’s just a bug, no need for that.” The blonde gets to his feet, clearing a path in front of you. “Go on, to bed with you. I’ll send Rei up with some medication in a minute, okay?”
“B-bed?”
“Yep – you need to rest. Go on.”
“B-but I can finish the d-dishes first…” You frowned at the counter.
“You’re sick.” Kazuki stressed. “Pyjamas on, in bed, rest.”
“Go on, Kitty. I can do them.” Rei nods, hoping that might encourage you to listen.
“Okay. Just f-for a b-bit.” You hold the railing as you go up the stairs, knowing that every step is being scrutinized.
By the time you’ve changed into your pyjamas – an activity that seems to make you feel more warm than anything else – and got in the bed, Rei arrives with a tray in hand, balancing a glass, pitcher of water and a box of medication, looking concerned. “Kazuki says to take two of these – that’ll it help with the temperature and the headache.” He places it down on the bedside table before removing the tablets from the box, popping out two and holding them out to you.
You’d be skeptical of taking them if it wasn’t Rei offering them to you. You pop them in your mouth and wash them down with water, leaning back into the pillows.
“I r-really don’t f-feel that bad…”
When Rei was young and sick, Boss made him run. Sweat it out, boy. All he’d wanted to do was sleep, but he wasn’t permitted a day off training for such a trivial thing as a fever. He has a job to do, it’s not going to wait, and Boss said working through it would only strengthen his immune system. He’d been sick once soon after Kazuki had moved in – he’d blamed the blonde for bringing his germs in – and Kazuki had manhandled him into his actual bed, got him to drink some disgusting medicine, put a wet cloth on his forehead – he had to admit that bit had been nice - and promised him unlimited ramen cups if he’d remain in the bed the rest of the day and night. Hell, the man had even stayed besides him, switching over the cloths periodically, getting him to drink more medicine, watching him like a hawk.
The next day he had felt much better, he had to admit.
“I know,” Rei kneels down besides the bed, “but better to be cautious. Just rest a bit - for me, okay?”
You’ve been getting better at saying no, but how can you say no to that face?
“Okay, you mumble, shuffling down in the bed a little. “Are y-you r-really going to w-wash the dishes?”
“Kazuki started doing them as soon as I headed up here. Said we still need to work on a ‘proper scrubbing technique’, apparently.” Rei huffs. “Why are you so worried about the dishes?”
“I’m n-not,” you avoid eye contact, staring at the bed covers.
“Kitty…”
“I w-want to e-earn m-m-my place.”
“Earn?” He frowns.
“Y-yeah. I d-don’t h-have a-any m-m-money or a j-job and I k-k-know Zuki is a-always k-keeping a c-close eye on the b-b-budget and I’m an ad-ad-added ex-expense”, you’re growing flustered, your breath catches in your throat and your stutter is out of control. You dig your nails into your palms, “so the l-least I c-can d-do is c-clean a-and…”
Rei’s hand is now on your cheek, tilting your head to face him. “Breathe,” he reminds, gently. Looking in his eyes grounds you for a moment and you nod, inhaling deeply and purposefully.
“You don’t need to earn anything here. What’s mine is yours, okay? I don’t even need to ask Kazuki to know he’d say the same. Plus, he’s the original couch crasher, so that position’s already taken.” He jokes.
“I w-want to b-be useful, h-have a p-p-purpose…”
“You are and you do, and we can figure out some things when you’re feeling better. But, for right now, I just need you to rest. Please?”
You nod, a little shakily, before laying down fully. It is nice to be lying down.
“Thank you.” He gets up to his feet and pulls the blinds down, blocking out the early afternoon sun.
“C-can you s-stay f-for a bit?”
“Of course.” He returns to the space besides the bed, leaning up against the bedside table. “Close your eyes, I’ll be here.” He lays his hand on top of yours, gently before he withdraws his phone with his other hand, muting the volume and loading up a game. You close your eyes – your head hurts less so with the darkened room. You could just lay like this for a while, right? Then the headache will pass and you can get up and get on with the housework, just lay there for a little longer, listening to Rei tap away at the phone screen…
--
“Come on,” Kazuki whispers. “We haven’t picked Miri up together in a while. Kitty’ll be fine – she’ll probably sleep better without you hovering over her.”
Rei nods, getting up from his vigil. He hadn’t wanted to leave you really in case you needed anything, but Kazuki is probably right. It isn’t a long trip to the daycare, at least, and you do seem pretty asleep now. He leans over you to brush some hair out of your eyes, noting you still feel a little clammy. He grabs hold of the lion he got you from the zoo – it’s lived in your bed ever since – and tucks it into your arms.
“I’ll be back soon, okay?” He murmurs, before leaving the room quietly and pulling the door to behind him.
--
You wake up a few hours later, a dull pain in your head but nothing as bad as earlier. You sit up and reach over to the bedside table, taking a swig of water from the glass, before getting to your feet. The alarm clock suggests you’ve been asleep for over three hours and Miri should be home from daycare and you get to your feet, hoping Kazuki and Rei will deem that enough of a rest to let you help out with the evening activities. Your bedroom door is slightly ajar and you hear Miri squeal – she’s usually quite excited when she first gets home but this level seems new. You wince, the noise sending a sharp pain through your head as you approach the door.
You then hear a distinctly female voice, followed by Kazuki. That’s different. Unexpected. There’s a short sentence that you recognize as Rei, then Miri giggling. You push the door shut, softly, unsure what to do. You think hard, trying to remember any female friend that they’ve mentioned before, but nothing springs to mind. You’re also not sure what rules there are, if any, around guests. They’d never had guests before. He always had guests – don’t talk unless spoken to (that one soon became unnecessary), show them respect, serve them as you would him. You turn and climb back into the bed and wait.
Downstairs, the little girl clocks your absence.
“Papas, where’s Kitty?” Miri frowns.
“You have a cat?” Misaki asks, politely.
“No.” Kazuki grunts. “She’s… a guest. Kitty wasn’t feeling very well, Miri, she’s resting in bed.”
“Oh, poor Kitty.” Miri frowns. But then her attention span drifts as she sees her pile of drawings, dragging her mother over to look.
“I should go check on her.” Rei suggests, getting up from the sofa but Kazuki grabs hold of his arm as he tries to walk past and pulls him back, hissing in his ear, “You are not leaving me alone with this woman, who knows what I’ll do?! I’ll go, you stay.” Rei pouts a little. He doesn’t want to be left alone either.
Kazuki knocks on the door gently and he finds you sitting up in the bed, looking nervous.
“H-hi.”
“How are you feeling?” He steps in and closes the door. You can tell his mind is preoccupied though.
“A l-little b-b-better, thanks.” You lie. “I w-would’ve come down b-but I heard so-somebody e-else and…” You don’t finish, feeling a little cowardly.
“Mm. Yeah, we have a ‘guest’. She’s called Misaki and she’s… Well, she’s Miri’s mother.”
You frown. “I t-t-thought…”
“Me too.” Kazuki sighs, leaning against the closed door. “Misaki seems to have had a change of heart. She wants to take Miri back.”
“Oh.”
“Can she do that? It’s been nearly a year. She just… She let her travel across the whole city on her own with nothing but a letter and an envelope of photos. She can’t just demand to take her back, can she?”
“I… I’m n-not sure.” You wish you could comfort Kazuki better. “You’ll n-need to s-sit and t-talk p-properly.”
“I know, I just don’t want to.” He sighs. “Do you feel up for coming downstairs? Miri was asking for you.”
You don’t really want to, but you do for Miri and Kazuki’s sake. You nod, getting out of the bed, grab the black zip up hoody and pull it over your pyjamas, following the blonde out the bedroom door.
When you get downstairs Misaki is nowhere to be seen, but Miri is delighted to see you, cuddling up against your legs. “Kitty, Mama’s here! Well, she was here, but she’s coming back. She’s going to make us dinner!”
“T-that’s exciting.” You smile, warmly.
“Are you feeling any better?” Rei stands besides you, scrutinizing your face.
You nod, give him a smile and lower your voice. “Is Z-Zuki okay?”
“Not particularly.” He shrugs. “We need to keep calm in front of Miri though. Are you sure you’re feeling better? Come on, sit down.”
A little while later, the buzzer goes.
“Do I have to let her back in?” Kazuki grumbles, but Miri has already sprinted to the front door and is jumping up and down, waiting for Kazuki to let her mama back in. He frowns as he sees her laden with shopping bags in hand, informing that she’s going to make Miri’s favourite dinner.
“Oh…” She smiles at you, unsure, looking you up and down. You wish you’d got changed out of your pyjamas. “Hello, I’m Misaki.”
“Mama, this is Kitty!” Miri beams, giddy with excitement to have all her favourite adults in one place.
“Oh, yes, the, er, guest?”
“Yes. H-h-hi.” There’s the look – the one you always get when you stutter. “N-nice to m-meet y-you.”
“What’s all this?” Kazuki asks, gesturing to the plastic bags in Misaki’s hands - thankfully ending this awkward interaction.
“Oh, well, I’m going to make Hamburg steak. I’m afraid I’ll have to use your kitchen…”
--
Dinner is awkward. There isn’t enough steak for everyone – Misaki only buying four – but that’s okay, you reassure, your appetite is a little off and you’re happy with rice and vegetables. Then there’s not enough chairs at the table, so you offer to sit elsewhere. Kazuki mutters that Misaki should offer to sit elsewhere, like in her own home for one, she’s the one imposing…
You can hear the stilted conversation - Kazuki getting upset as both Miri and Rei compliment the store-bought steak, but Miri is happy to have her papas and mama all together. You’re knelt down besides the coffee table with your dinner, trying your best to not feel excluded. You’d ate worse places and you’d offered, after all…
Rei comes and sits with you on the sofa after dinner, asking if you’re okay, squeezing your hand. You nod – it’s not like Misaki is moving in, you reason in your head, you’ll get your place back. Kazuki is mumbling angrily under his breath as he wipes the dining table, Miri and Misaki working together on the dishes. Miri is telling her mother about how they’re going to sing Silent Night at the daycare’s Christmas party. It’s clear how much Miri loves her mama, but you’ve seen how much the little girl adores Kazuki and Rei too. Not long after the dishes are complete, Miri jumps up besides you on the sofa with a loud yawn when Misaki visits the bathroom and in the time it takes her to return, Miri is snoring happily away. Seeing this, Kazuki takes his chance.
“Talk.” The blonde orders, sitting down at the table and pointing at a chair for Misaki to take.
“Can we do it in, er, private?” She asks, sitting down. You look down at Miri – maybe she hasn’t realized she’s asleep? But when you look up to clarify, you realize she’s looking at you.
“Kitty stays, she’s part of this family too.” Rei replies in a tense tone. You avert your eyes again, looking back at Miri sleeping peacefully on the couch. You’re not sure how this conversation is going to go – you know Kazuki is finding it difficult already and maybe tempers will fray. Miri is a solid sleeper… but, still, you’d hate for her to wake up to find her mama and papas having heated words.
“It’s o-o-okay. I’m f-f-feeling a l-l-little t-tired, so w-why don’t I t-t-take Miri up t-to b-bed?” You suggest. What would you add to the discussion anyway? You worry that you being there will give Misaki ammo, somehow. What are you exposing my daughter to?
“Are you sure?” Kazuki asks and you nod, perhaps a little too eagerly. “Okay, thank you.”
You gently pick the little girl up and she unconsciously snuggles into your arms. Three pairs of eyes of eyes linger on you as you walk up the spiral stairs, padding into Miri’s room and tucking her into her own bed. When you exit, you can hear Kazuki finding it difficult to contain his anger, but you head straight into your room, closing the door to behind you and climbing into bed, cuddling your lion to your chest.
--
“Run!” A voice demands. “Run…!” It’s your father, of course that’s your father’s voice – how could you have forgotten? He repeats it again, but this time, he says your name, or what you think is your name. The thing is, it’s muffled, almost as you’re underwater – you can’t make it out but you know that’s what he’s saying. Why can’t your brain comprehend it? “Run!” You know, somehow, he doesn’t mean out the front door, so you head to the one at the rear of the property – the one that overlooks the woodland. There’s screeching tyres from the front but you don’t look back. The ground is unsteady and you stumble over roots, branches scratching at your legs. It’s muddy – it’s not ideal for running and your shoes are getting stuck in the mud, you’re clumsy, you’re causing a racket. Why are you running? Where are you running to?
You trip, crashing into the ground, mud splatters up on your face. You know there’s no time to waste – your father’s tone had been desperate - so you grasp above you head blindly, trying to find purchase on a branch or a trunk or a rock. You manage to get back up to your feet, but there’s a sharp twinge in your ankle – you must’ve twisted it in the fall. You stagger forward but it’s useless, you’ve lost your momentum, you’ve lost the little bearings you’ve had, but still you limp forward. There’s a racket growing behind you and you try to increase your pace. Your ankle burns with every step, the mud seems to be grow stickier, pulling back at your feet every time you lift them. Pathetic. An arm grabs you around the waist, and you elbow back, demanding they get off you but you know it’s over then. They’re so much stronger – your elbows don’t even make them flinch.
Your wrists are pulled tightly behind your back, feeling like they’re trying to pull your shoulders out of their sockets. Something’s looped around them – a zip tie? – and tightened until it feels like it’s cutting deep into your skin. You’re span round and you get a glimpse of a face – not one you recognize - before you’re thrown over your assailant’s shoulder. They grumble at the state of you, the mud from your fall now sullying their suit.
You struggle but it’s pointless. Fingers pinch into your thighs as they begin to walk back to the house with you, or at least you think they are. It’s hard to tell, the way you’re being held means you can see nothing but the back of your captor. He’s looped an arm through your bound arms to keep you snug against him, and every jostle the restraints cut into your skin more. You know you’re not screaming – you know there’s no-one around here for miles.
You’re back inside the house now, but the room smells different – tangy, bloody…
You’re dropped down on the floor, opposite your father. His nose is bloody, his eye is blackening rapidly. You stare at him but you don’t say a word. Someone new enters the room and you look down at the ground.
“Aktomi, please.” Your father pleads, “If you just give me a little more time…”
“I’ve given you plenty of time.” He replies. “You haven’t even begun to scrape the surface. I need to collect today.” A pair of well-polished shoes appear in your view and the newcomer crouches down in front of you. A hand grasps your chin and tilts it up so you have to make eye contact and you try and swallow back down your fear. “And when I came to collect, you sent the most valuable thing you have running out the door.”
“Please, sir, I beg of you. My mistakes are nothing to do with her. She has her whole life ahead of her…” Your father is on the verge of tears.
He’s still holding you by the chin, fingers digging into your jaw as he twists your face side to side. You don’t what to think what he’s looking for.
“How old is she?”
“19, sir. She’s a dutiful daughter. Ever since her mother died, she’s been so good to me. I don’t deserve her…”
“No, you don’t,” he lets go at last, seeming happy with his findings and gets to his feet. “Put her in the car.”
“What?” You gasp, but you’re hoisted roughly off the ground, an arm looped through your bound wrists again, a hand grips hold of the back of your neck and forces your head down as you’re dragged out. You can’t get purchase on the ground to make a step, tripping over your own feet as they half-carry you. “Father!” You cry out, but it’s useless – you’re already out the door and up the footpath to the dirt road. Every step further they take you, you can hear your father plead and plead and plead… until there’s a solitary gunshot and you know.
There’s the sound of a door being opened and your neck is released, only for you then to be swept off your feet and dropped into the trunk of a car. You try and sit up but a hand pushes your shoulders firmly back down, causing your head to bang against the side console, making your vision swim. Then he appears, smiling at you.
“Enjoy the ride, sweetheart. I’ll decide how you can pay your father’s debts once we’re home.”
The world goes black.
Your eyes shoot open as you sit up, your breath already caught in your throat, covered in a cold sweat. It takes a second for your eyes to adjust – you’re in bed, you’re in Rei’s bedroom, you’re not in a car, you’re not back there… You’re fine, you’re fine, you’re fine - you try to reassure yourself but you have the sickening feeling once more of your breaths not being enough.
“Kitty?” The voice to your side startles you and you’re hyperventilating now, tears trickling down your cheeks and you’re gripping the bedsheet with both hands – willing yourself to just breathe but you can’t. Your head is trying to remember what Kazuki told you, breathing in and out for so many seconds, but you lose count and maybe you’re not breathing deep enough? Did it feel deeper last time? It’s not getting in.
Misaki had left a little while ago. Kazuki had stormed off to bed, but Rei couldn’t sleep. He wanted to see you, make sure you were okay, talk about what had occurred. The bedroom door had been slightly ajar when he’d got upstairs, so he’d poked his head in to find you tossing and turning in the sheets. He’d just made it to your side when you’d shot bolt-right up in the bed, panting.
He’s kneeling besides the bed now, pulling your hand from the bedsheet and gripping it tightly. He’s saying something but all you can hear is the pounding of your heart in your ears – why’s it so loud?  Rei is panicking too - should he get Kazuki? No, he doesn’t want to leave you on your own, not even for a moment. If he shouts for him, that’ll wake Miri too, surely. He takes a breath himself and tries to repeat what Kazuki told him but it’s soon clear you’re not focusing on him at all, staring blankly ahead of you as your eyes are damp with tears. He thinks back to his training – his instructor used to put his hand over his to adjust his positioning on various weapons, so maybe that could work here too. Could he get you to feel how he’s breathing? He gets to his feet and climbs behind you in the bed. His long legs are now either side of you and he reaches forward, grabbing your hands in each of his. He pulls you back and into his chest and he squeezes your hand one, two, three, four times as you feel him inhale behind you, his chest expanding. He’s exaggerating the movements, hoping to get through to you. One, two, three, four, he counts with a squeeze as he holds the breath. Another one, two, three, four as he releases the breath and starts the sequence again. You close your eyes and just try and focus on the rise and fall of his chest, mimicking the motion, and on the squeezes of his hands on yours. You don’t know how long it takes – minutes, hours? – but your breaths become deeper and calmer once more, returning to almost normal as Rei continues holding you tight, squeezing and breathing.
“Feeling better?” His voice murmurs in your ear, his breath tickling your neck.
You nod. “T-thank y-you.”
“No problem.” He hesitates briefly, before letting go of your hands. You immediately grab hold of his left arm, pulling it around your stomach. He tenses for a second but relaxes soon after.
“D-don’t g-g-go. P-please.”
“I won’t.” He soothes, “I’ll stay as long as you need me to, okay?”
You squeeze his hand, taking a shuddering breath. “N-ni-nightmare.” You confide before Rei can ask. He leans his head on your shoulder, wrapping his other arm around you without prompt, leaning back into the pillows. “A-about t-the n-n-night my f-father died. F-father, he… H-he was s-saying m-my n-n-name but I c-couldn’t h-hear it.”
“That must be frustrating. I’m sorry.”
You sit for a few moments, enjoying the grounding feeling of being wrapped in his arms as you continue to breathe in sync. As your thoughts begin to rationalize, you remember what had occurred before you’d fallen asleep.
“W-what happened with M-Misaki?”
“She’s got cancer. She doesn’t think she has long left to live.”
“Oh, t-that’s aw-awful.”
“Mm. She wants to live out the rest of her life with Miri, live her life now for Miri.” A pause. “She said she knows about our line of work, and that if we truly care about Miri, then we’d do what’s best for her.”
“T-that’s not f-fair.” Rei doesn’t reply, musing over it in his head. “What d-does Zuki t-think?”
“He didn’t say much – he just went to bed. I don’t know what we should do.”
You wish you knew the right thing to say, but you don’t. You know Kazuki and Rei love and adore Miri, they’ve done nothing but good for her. You don’t know much about Misaki’s life, but Miri obviously adored her so she can’t have been a terrible mother. Then again, how could a mother send their little girl out alone…?
“S-sleep on it.” You suggest. “Everyone’s e-emotions a-are high. S-sleep w-will help.”
You feel him nod on your shoulder. “And you, will you be able to sleep?”
“I… I d-don’t k-know.” You bite your lip. “I… I don’t want you to go.”
“I won’t go. I told you, I’ll stay as long as you need me.”
You close your eyes.
--
The first conscious thought is there’s a sharp burst vibration on his right leg. It’s signaling a text. The second is he has his arms wrapped around you, spooning you into the wall and he’s in your bed. It’s pleasant – your breathing is steady and you feel so soft and warm… There’s another vibration against his leg. He carefully removes his arm from around you to retrieve his phone – his other one will have to remain trapped under your sleeping form for now.
He turns away as he unlocks the device, not wanting the light from it to cast on your face. It’s a number he doesn’t have saved, which makes his gut sink because it can only mean one thing.
Boss wants to see you – immediately.
It’s a little after 6am – Boss has always been an early riser. It hasn’t been that long since he last saw him on his birthday, but so much has happened in that time. He was meant to be tying up loose ends, but then you came along and… Well, dominated his thoughts.
Rei slides his arm out from under you but you abruptly turn, mumbling in your sleep. He freezes, he doesn’t want to wake you up because of the Boss of all things. He spots the plush lion and presses it under your arm. You sigh, squeezing it and your breathing returns to its steady state.
He know he’s stealthy – it was a large part of his training, after all - but it doesn’t feel right to get changed whilst you’re in the room. He gathers up the necessary pieces of his suit and heads towards the door, pausing briefly to glance back at you and smile.
He dresses in the bathroom, checking his appearance in the mirror as he ties up his hair. He puts a change of clothes in a bag – the suit’s been feeling more constrictive recently, and not due to Kazuki’s cooking, so he doesn’t want to wear it longer than necessary. He’s halfway to the front door when he turns back, finds a scrap of paper and leaves a note on the dining table.
Taken the car. Back later – Rei.

Hihi can we get some Caitlyn x Undercity(gn)reader hc
Oh also you're doing a great job 🤘
Why thank you good person for requesting, haven't gotten a request in ages lol, and ty that really means alot ☺️
¤Caitlyn with a S/O from Zaun HCs¤
Tumblr media
your probably thinking "how did these crazy kids meet?", well allow me to explain
You, not being a big fan of Silco and his crew, try your best to "rebel" in a way by disrupting shimmer production to the best of your ability
Once you got word by eavesdropping in on a conversation with Sevika and another crew member about the trap for the enforcers, you rushed over to topside to try and stop it from springing
Of course it was too late, but there was one line survivor, that survivor being Caitlym Kiramman in the flesh
You couldn't just leave her there! So doing what was right, you took her to a medic (I'm not sure what they're exactly called in Piltover) to get her some medical attention
Few days go by and you check up on her in her room as she was recently permitted to go back, and your met with a gun to the face
Thought she trusted you? She didn't even know you saved her life yet
"Wait! Don't shoot! I'm not a threat!" "How can I be so sure that you won't take me to be interrogated for info in the undercity." "Because I'm the one who saved your enforcer ass from Jinx's trap!"
... she had no words
A Zaunnite saving an enforcer? Not a likely thing to see
You two start to form a bond and start to find out you had more in common than you know
One thing being that the two of you try to minimalize distractions and get straight to the center of a problem
Another being your shared hate for Silco's shimmer empire, shes glad to know that even people from the undercity are not fond of it
The more you hang around her the more you become attracted to her, just something about her captures you, and you can't tell what
She finds out about your feelings for her, she reciprocates the feeling
Caitlyn was... unsure to say the least in the beginning of your relationship, she didnt know exactly what to do in the case of having a S/O as she's never had one, especially one from the undercity
You do your best to make sure she doesn't over exhaust herself with her work, as she's known to get carried away...alot
Cuddling? She'd be the big spoon on most occasions, just how I'd view her being
She is usually up and awake before you, so when your awake before her for once, you surprise her with breakfast in bed, you can imagine she's taking time to register this, but don't worry she is appreciative of you <3
"You did this.. for me? Your too kind darlin."
When she isn't occupied she likes talking to you or watching you do your own hobby, she is very intrigued in what you do, she may even tag along and do it with you
She will listen to you rant about anything that comes to mind, don't worry about her leaving because she will stick by your side until your done, she is a good listener
Another thing you two would like to do is go on dates to stargaze and have a nice dinner, as you didn't have that kind of luxury in Zaun
I know, it's not really my best, but I try. I hope it's good enough : )

DP drabble
So, a while ago I saw a bit of a message on here that Jazz actually showed interest in the show into doing either neuroscience, becoming a lawyer or a professor. And i remember me in the notes giving a bit of a random angsty idea.
Either way, while at work today that idea decided to kidnap me and hold me hostage for a bit.
So now I am writing and posting this to get it out of my system so i can continue my actual fanfic project. It doesn't even have all the things i thought about adding but I just went with where my brain took me for now and that is it.
Fair warning, It is a bit of a long read about 3600 words and it is unbeta'ed and no editing. Trigger Warnings: murder, mention torture, mention unethical/inhuman medical experiments. mention suicide. non detailed home surgery (dont do this at home kiddos). slight gore (not graphic but heavily implied).
Have fun. and feel free to use it as a jump off point for your own ideas.
DP drabble - Neuroscience doesn't seem fun anymore
Jazz stares right ahead as she grips the steering wheel. She refuses to look away from the dark road and only permits herself a small glance into the mirror to the back seat every ten minutes. Shequickly realised she couldn't keep herself from checking on her brother and so instead just stopped checking the time.
It is dark outside and without all the street lights there is only darkness around them. She takes comfort in that, The GIW always come with a lot of noise and sound. As long as it is quiet no one will try and take her brother away from her again.
This had been supposed to be their year.
Jazz had been accepted into her first choice of college and she had been preparing her dorm room to include Danny. The year before had been hard but Jazz had managed to convince Danny that he could leave the lower risk ghosts to Valerie as the Red Huntress. That it wasn't Danny's responsibility. Afterwards she had sat down together with him, Sam and Tucker and gone over what the plan had been to help Danny pass and be able to finish High School on time.
In the end Jazz had gone to talk with Mr. Lancer and after a long story about how Danny has a bad fear of ghosts and with her parents being obsessed wiht them and always talking about them it put Danny under a lot of stress since the ghosts actually showed up. And if he could please help with setting up a program of some kind to help Danny pass.
Mr. Lancer had seemed doubtful but had tried and given Danny the chance to study in peace and with help. And Danny flourished!
That together with the less ghost attacks he had to take care of they had been hopeful that Danny would actually pass and he did!
Summer vacation had been about to start and Danny would just have to finish his last year and he could escape Amity Park too. He would have come to her and join one of the colleges there. They had both given up on their parents ever accepting Danny and had accepted they would just be on their own. Tucker would go to his own dream school and Sam would first do charity and than go to school before they would all try and meet up again when things calmed down.
They had had a plan.
Which is why it had felt like a stab through the heart when she came back early for the summer holiday to go collega touring with Danny, only to see GIW having set up a parameter around her house. She had demanded to know what had happened and they had just said that that menace of a ghost named Phantom had killed both her parents and her little brother.
Bull. Shit.
But she knows how to play this part. She immediantly started crying and sobbing as she planned. She needed to get to the lab, she needed the security footage they had there. She needed to get into her house to get Danny's emergancy bag.
She continued to sob and went to a hotel, gracefully paid for by the GIW in her trying and hard times. She went there, searched the room for any listening or spying devices, none had been installed. and she immediantly set up a phone call wiht Tucker and Sam, both had been out on trips with their parents and one check in later and they both agreed to ditch it and come to Amity Park for their last Back Up plan.
"Paris" or the long version and the song line they had worked off of "If we go down, we go down together."
Next, Jazz set to work on getting the last member they would need for this. Valerie. She called her and Valerie agreed to meet with her. Valerie had tried to start and say how sorry she was for her loss but Jazz hadn't let her start. She had looked Valerie straight in the eyes and said "Danny is Phantom. And I know the GIW lied as Danny would never hurt anyone. They have him, and I need to get him out. He never meant for you to be hurt in that ghost attack but he fears your rejection more than your hatred."
It had been a lot to take in for Valerie but she had already meet Ellie after all. It didn't take her long to connect the dots and she agreed to help.
With Valerie helping as bait to lead the GIW to a 'high level ghost threat' Jazz managed to get into her house and ran straight to her brother's room. It was a mess, the GIW had clearly tried to search it but Jazz knew they wouldn't have found it. After all, why hide something under your bed when you can hide it in walls? Jazz pulled out her own lipstick blaster and blasted a hole right into the wall. She pulled out the overly stocked medkit and his emergancy bag. She moved to rush out of the room before spotting the little astronaut build a bear in the corner, she had a matching doctor one. It held a recording of their parents telling them they love them. she grabs it mostly on impulse before rushing down the stairs towards the lab.
It seemed like the GIW had locked it but one swipe of her hand and the door happily swings open with "Come right in jazz-pants princess!" in her father's cheerful voice.
She runs down the stairs and-
Found her parents.
Both dead.
On the ground.
Covered in bullet marks.
The only thing making her able to move is the adrenalin rushing through her body. She naps evidence pictures before running to the main computer. She slaps in an USB and starts up the security footage as she closes the portal. Machines connected to it start to sound loudly but Jazz ignored them. Jazz knows that reception in the lab is terrible and unless it is special Fenton Tech there is no signal coming out of this radioactive hell hole that her parents made.
She starts copying files as she looks through the old and dirty filters. She will overload the portal with one and the GIW will never be able to use it against anyone. Jazz finds the right one and switches the filters around. The portal immediantly dings the warning and Jazz mutes it. She returns to the computer where the USB is whiping all the fiiles after copying them and sees the last file being played. It is a video.
The GIW stand in the basement with their guns out at Danny, human Danny. Her parents are shouting at the GIW and move between them and Danny. And the GIW just... tell her parents what Danny is and with somekind of electric shock force Danny to transform. Danny had stared fearfully at their parents but then... mom just.. kicks the GIW agent that shot at Danny. Shouting about how they dare to shoot her baby boy!
The GIW yell about ghost being unfeeling and that THEY had said so as well. And her father... her father just tells them that obviously they had then missed something because Danny clearly feels and is sentient and if he is part ghost it means ghost s are as well.
JAzz feels tears leave her eyes. their... their parents accepted him. They didn't even need convincing.
Sure, her parents may be absentminded, obsessed with work and may have been technically neglectful. but they loved them. and they fought for them.
And then the GIW shot her parents and managed to capture Danny as he tried desperatly to stop mom from bleeding out.
Jazz sobs real tears as the download finished as she grabs the USB. she runs to the weapon vault and grabs her weapons of choice, the creep stick, the booo-morang and the Fenton Peeler. Next she locks the vault and changes the password. She leaves the lab and locks the door behind her as she ignores the red flashing light. The blast would destroy the lab but the shock doors should keep it contained to the lab, the foundations of the house would crumble and collapse and bury the molten and destroyed lab.
By the time she returns to her hotel room she has gotten messages from Tucker. Tucker had found the location of the base from the GIW after hacking some cameras to follow their path.
Jazz met up with Valerie and together made a plan to storm the base. Valerie would set off every single ghost alarm in the city before meeting up with Jazz at the base with a car for Jazz to use.
The base.
Jazz sudders and pulls herself out of her memories. the road in front of her is still dark and her hands shake on the steering wheel. A glance to the back shows Danny, still breathing in his little cocoon of blankets. She can just see the top of his head.
which is covered in white bandages.
The room had been covered in blood. Danny had just laid there, lifeless. With the top of his skull removed while a surgeon had stood over him with a scaple.
Jazz sobs and her sight grows hazy with tears. She had stiched her little brother up before. Had helped with setting bones before. stitching on a scalp as much as she could have been terrible. She had almost vomited when she saw the cut of part of his skull just in a bottle.
Jazz can't take it anymore and stops the car. she turns off the engine and sits in the darkness for a while. She steps outside and looks upwards. In the distance she spots Valerie on her hoverboard. And that helps her relax.
Valerie's suit had something that caused ecto detectors to just not notice her tech. She would stay near to make sure to keep danny hidden. Sure they could have used an Ecto blocker or something but Jazz didn't want to risk messing wiht Danny's powers. One of them was accelerated healing after all. And she is counting on that to help save her brother.
She gives Val a thumbs up to show it is no emergency before opening the back door and checking Danny. the white bandages she had put on to help protect the wound were becoming very red and she grabs a new roll as she starts to process of making sure the wound is clean and protected. Ironically the moment she starts working on this task her hands still and become stable again.
Seems like her first year at collega had helped, especially all those extra classes to learn and look in on surgeries.
After it she checks his pulse and his breathing. Both stable even if a bit slower than she would like but she will accept it for now. She gently checks his temperature, still running a slight fever. She will take the fever over the ice cold she had feared that was common with corpses.
Jazz gently, oh so gently, places a kiss on his cheek before backing off and going to the side of the road for a moment. she needs a moment to breath before she can keep going.
She only gives herself a minute before climbing back behind the steering wheel and driving again.
It is just before sunrise when she finds the right city and drives in, she had been driving for a good fourteen hours to get here but it had been worth it. She gets to the address Sam had send her and easily says the name Tucker had send her.
While she had been rescueing Danny wiht Valerie. Tucker and Sam had been on their way back to them. Tucker had crafted new identities for them to who Sam wired pretty much half of the emergency stach she had been saving and getting from her grandmother.
They wouldn't have needed it if Vlad hadn't been a coward. Vlad, the moment he learned that Maddie and JAck had died had just, stared lifelessly ahead of himself. Jazz had been trying to get his assistance in saving Danny but he had just. not cared. He had told her to leave and while Jazz and Val, who had broken into his lab to get more gear, left they heard a gunshot.
Jazz shakes her head as she walks into the lobby and smiles pleasantly at the security guard, trying to ignore how uncomfortable the lenses are. It are brown ones and that together with having her hair hidden in her clothes and a cap it should do enough. the man, barely awake. asks for indentification and Jazz nervously hands the copies of her new ID. the man nods and gives them back before handing her a key "4th floor. to the left and then the second door. numer 416" and he turns back to his book. Jazz thanks him quietly before rushing outside to get her things and more importantly to move Danny.
With Val's help they get everything and Danny up to her new home in one trip where they find the pre-furnished studio appartment.
Sam had outdone herself, after Tucker made them new IDs Sam had moved quickly to get them housing near the collega where Tucker transfered her too. Jazz doesn't even want to know how Tucker managed to get her own credits over to her new identity while not tripping any wires but she will just trust him. she owns them big time and she prays they will stay save.
Talking about save.
She pulls out her phone and easily connects to the secret server Tucker had set up as she types her message "We are here. Red will help get us settled before leaving. please stay save you two."
To which she only gets thumbs ups as replies. ugh. sixteen year olds.
JAzz turns to Danny and smiles before looking at Valerie. Valerie has taken a hold of Danny's hand and whispers to him "You idiot. you better live you hear me? Because after this i want to her the truth from you. and then we can figure things out okay?" valerie stares at danny before sighing as she pulls away and straightens herself.
"Okay. What do you need?"
Jazz frowns as she looks to the side "I need stuff from a hospital but i can't ask that of you."
Valerie rolls her eyes "I asked you what you need. Just give me a list."
Jazz frowns but writes down a list that has been forming since the first moment she saw what had happened to Danny. She gives it to the other girl and Val reads it over. Jazz rubs her arm "I am so sorry I am asking this off you but-"
Valerie cuts her off "Don't be. I... I never tried to listen to him. Even after Ellie. It is the least I can do." she puts on her helmet again as she kicks open her hover board "I left the signal blocker with you. I won't need it as long as I don't use my weapons which I don't plan on. Stay save. I will also get you some food." and she leaves through the window.
Jazz sits down on the ground next to the bed holding Danny and waits. her heart still beating a mile a second as she holds Danny's hand and counts his pulse.
It doesn't take more than 30 minutes before Valerie reappears with her arms full of bags. she lays it all down and moves some salads into the fridge and some macaroni boxes into the cabinet. she shrugs "and the sink has water. that should be fine and won't go bad as long as you eat the salads first." she walks over toJazz nad Jazz wraps her arms around Valerie.
"Thank you."
Valerie hugs her back "Don't be."
"Please stay save on your way home."
Valerie nods against her shoulder "I will. keep Danny save?"
JAzz chuckles as he grip tightens "With my life."
They stop hugging and Valerie starts to walk down in her normal outfit "I am leaving my blocker here. that should keep you guys save. I will drop the car off a cliff somewhere before going to look for Ellie to keep her save."
Jazz looks at the other "And your dad?"
Valerie sighs but gives a grin "I will call him after getting rid of the car. And just explain the situation to him, he has been understanding about this for so long... I am sure once I explain it he will just tell others that I am off doing some road trip." she grins "Don't worry about me. I know what i am doing."
Jazz nods and wishes her luck before locking the door behind the other girl. She takes a moment to quickly eat a salad and drink water before starting to close all the windows and double checking the place.
Everything else on operation 'We go down, we go down together' now rests on Tucker's hacking skills and Sam's photoshop and editing skills. Jazz has her own mission to complete.
Which is.
She opens one of the bags with her and carefully removes the bottle holding part of Danny's skull.
She needs to put her brother back together.
she starts undoing the bandages and checks the head wound. still bleeding but slowing down, seeing the open wound Jazz is convinced it is because Danny is loosing what he has. She takes a deep breath and grabs the bag that Val had brought and takes out the operation gown, gloves and tools. she disinfects a tray and gently places it under Danny's head and takes another deep breath.
She had only had theory about this. she had been lucky to have even been allowed to look in on a surgery of two.
Now it is time to put her limited skills to the test and it was drown or swim.
And damnit she was going to swim no matter what.
Once she starts to doesn't get easier. it gets worse and worse the longer she has to look at the brains of her little brother. the fears of what kind of lasting damage this will do to him get worse and worse. the fear of her accidentally killing him gets worse each second. The only thing keeping her from a panic attack, the only thing keeping her from breaking down. is the slow rise and fall of her brother's chest. it is the weak pulse she feels when checking it.
It guides her forwards.
She isn't even sure how long it took her and she doesn't want to know.
But at the end. She somehow managed.
Jazz finishes the bandages again and smiles at her little brother. and for a moment sees the tiny five year old version of him dressed as a mummy made of toilet paper, ready to go trick or treating.
And she has to run to the toilet to vomit before she breaks down sobbing and crying. she stares at her hands covered in bloody gloves and throws them in the sink before rushing back to her brother.
Still breathing.
Still alive.
She sobs as she sits down next to the bed. one hand takes a hold of his hand, it feels cold, and she checks his pulse. Still going, still alive.
Jazz takes out her phone and finds the server. the last message she send was two days ago. She takes a moment to breath before sending the last needed message for a while.
"alive. time to burn the bridges." and she watches her phone.
Two thumbs ups appear within seconds. and a moment later a third tumbs up appears from the newest added number.
Jazz opens the news app on her phonea dn waits. moments later every artical gets replaced by a list of crimes that the GIW has commited and proof about ghosts having feelings in the form of interviews with Kitty, Johnny and Ember.
She keeps watching for as long as it takes until it appears. An edited version of the GIW attacking Phantom and taking him. of her parents saying they had been wrong and ghosts clearly do have feelings and to release him!
Then... the crime of them killer her parents. moments later of Danny trying to save their mom and them shooting him with something.
A short edited shot of the GIW torturing Danny in his phantom form.
Honestly? The cutting and pasting had been masterful. It shows the whole story but skips the part where Phantom and Danny had been the same person.
Then she sees the bit about herself. about her entering the GIW base as herself and then later a message from the GIW that Jazz had died. the GIW said heartbreak but now no one will believe that.
Jazz smiles as she puts her phone down and turns around until she can lay with her head on Danny's chest, where she can hear her little brother's heartbeat.
Now Tucker and Sam woudl make their own get away and they would go back to the original plan of eventually meeting up.
She smiles as she falls to sleep with the sound of her brother's heartbeat and knowing that the public will tear the GIW apart for what they did and the inhuman acts they commited.
If they want to hurt her brother.
They will have to deal with her.
And unlike Danny, Jazz has no problem fighting dirty.

You should talk about the remnant parasite au more you really should i am wiggling my magic fingers at you and casting a spell at you that makes you talk about your interests and ideas forever💥💥💥💥💥
WAHHH it took me a hot minute to get to this ask but I am smiling big and wide and am ready to ramble about this AU. I may repeat some information from previous posts and some info might be different since I ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT IT more. This will mainly be about Xylitol Nova's fall to the parasite and is somewhat of a preamble to the Cyborg stuff.
WARNINGS: Talk of Parasites, Terminal Illness
Xylitol Nova is infected with a parasite caused by his Xyl-Suit breaking during his search for XyL-Q. He seems alright for the first week or so on the ship that the Xylitol population is stuck with living in. After which, Nova begins to show small signs of infection. They're minor things. Mouth pain, eye aches while waking up, anxiety... And appearing a bit out of it now and then.
The leader "goes missing" for recovery, which essentially is him going into hiding (none of the other residents aside from Xylitol Researcher know) in one of many residential rooms on the ship while Researcher gives him the usual check-up.
Give it another week, and the symptoms have not gone away. If anything, they have gotten worse. Not to mention Nova being alone in his containment, as comfortable as it is, does not help his mental state. Thoughts of violence and destruction that once cropped up very rarely appear in his mind more often, scaring Nova much more than it should.
Researcher arrives to give Nova another check-in, getting some... odd results from the scans that they run. They run it again, and... It's shown to them that the infection that their leader has is sourced from the very thing that destroyed Planet Xylitol. The parasite is attached to Nova's heart.
Researcher emplores Nova to make an announcement for recovery, because despite all this, he doesn't want his citizens to worry about anything. Especially not after the whole disaster they've endured. Nova reluctantly agrees.
Before any more notes can be made, Researcher is spooked by the whites of Nova's eyes being blackened. They're blood-shot, but rather than blood, it's some black bile produced by the parasite.
Other symptoms that Nova experiences over time: Blood being replaced by the black bile, lethargy, an increase of violent thoughts and an increasing desire to act on those, a lowered ability to take in nutrients, replacement of existing teeth with much sharper versions, various aches and pains ranging from mild to debilitating, other parasitic symptoms...
Rather than having only Researcher working on this task, Nova permits them to have a group of medical staff (hence where Cyborg comes in). Progress is slow, practically non-existent.
The leader becomes less and less peaceful and willing to participate in tests and scans. There's a moment where Nova nearly wails his staff on Researcher but stops himself just before. The horror between those two lingers and only becomes worse the more time passes.
And though Nova becomes more intent on destroying others, after a particularly bad scuffle with Researcher, he stops attacking them. Particularly them. Testing is resisted, but Researcher isn't harmed. It's odd- as if there isn't a point to that any longer.
Researcher has the idea of throwing Nova into space or just. Killing him outright. That way the infection doesn't get any worse- though that only means the parasite would spread through the rest of space. This thought scares the hell out of them and gets them to check themself for any form of infection. And, unfortunately, the readings come back positive for the black hole's remnant parasite.
Not only have they caught the parasite, not only is the leader unable to act like himself and needs to be actively restrained in due time, but... Testing the other medical staff almost all come back positive. With no progress on slowing or stopping this parasite, the ship may very well be doomed. It doesn't help that the infection's symptoms halt any progress between staff members.
Note the Almost. Cyborg, not being a Xylitol and being made of different components and bodily composition, is resistant to the parasite. They essentially become the last hope the more the parasite spreads and the more hosts it begins to inhabit.

Ch 3
A few days later, you were in your room, double-checking to make sure you hadn't forgotten anything important. Minho, Hyunjin, Felix, Seungmin, and Jeongin came in early to bid you farewell and wished you a safe journey. They were sad that they couldn't accompany you as their schedules didn't permit them. Although you weren't going to be away for long, you were eagerly looking forward to your flight back to Seoul. As you packed your last-minute items such as your toothbrush, contact lenses, medication, etc., there was a soft knock at your door.
“Come in,” you answered. Changbin and Han peeked their heads in as the door slowly opened. They didn't have classes till later.
“Hey,” they greeted you with smiles.
“Hi,” you said.
“You all packed up?” Han asked. You nodded.
“Yeah, just packed up the last-minute stuff,” you said pointing to your toiletry bag that sat on top of your backpack. Changbin stepped forward.
“Well before you go, I didn’t want you to leave without this,” he said as he pulled out a squishmallow he had behind his back. It was a large taro boba squishmallow.
“What’s this?” you ask as you stare at it with adoration.
“We know you were talking about getting yourself one. We were going to give it to you on your birthday but decided maybe you needed it more now,” he said with a smile. You slowly accepted the squishmallow and you held it close.
“You guys are amazing, thank you,” you say sincerely, pulling them both into a hug. They would truly do anything to help you feel better. When it was time to leave, you saw Chris walking out of his room with his favorite sweatshirt in hand, ready to give it to you. You folded it and put it in your backpack along with the squishmallow. The boys hugged you goodbye and you left. The ride to the airport was terrible and the flight was worse. While the flight itself was smooth as can be, you couldn't sleep for the 12-hour flight, despite trying everything from listening to music, podcasts, and the ASMR links that Felix sent you, but Chris's sweatshirt and squishmallow provided some comfort. You curled up with them, feeling the scent of Chris's cologne. When you landed at SEATAC, you messaged Peyton and the boys to let them know you made it back.
It's The Spamming For Me
Me: Just landed in SEATAC
They all must’ve had their phones surgically glued to their hands because they all responded immediately.
Father of 7: glad you made it safely!
Cowife: eat and sleep well y/n!
Twin: miss you already!
Disney Prince: sleep well y/n, see you soon
BBG: sending you so many hugs
Angel Baby: you’re already missed!
Minnie Mouse: THE APARTMENT IS CHAOS COME BACK NOW
It's just a Little Guy: we love you y/n
You giggled at their messages as you quickly responded.
Me: I love you all too xoxo
After retrieving your bag, you headed towards the sky bridge that connects to the parking garage. Peyton was already there, waiting for you. Seeing only Peyton pick you up instead of her and Carter made your heart hurt, but you sucked it up and walked quickly over to Peyton. As soon as you were in each other’s arms, you could hear her sniffles, but you stayed strong for her. Peyton was Carter's only legal guardian, so you had to be there for her.
“How was your flight?” she sniffed as she helped you with your backpack. You shrugged.
“Fine, I guess…I didn’t exactly sleep,” you said scratching your neck. As you both walked towards the parking garage, she threw an arm around you. She then threw your backpack into the backseat before starting the engine. The drive to Peyton's place was quiet and uneventful. Once you arrived, you tossed your belongings onto the bed in the spare bedroom. While you were unpacking, Peyton walked in with two glasses in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other.
“It probably isn’t ideal, but Carter would’ve done it for either of us,” she said with a slight smile. You snorted because yes, Carter would’ve 110% gotten plastered the night before either of their funerals. The two of you made your way to the balcony and plopped yourselves down on the couch. Even though you felt like crap, there was a gentle breeze and at least the stars were out, and the skyline was gorgeous.
“How have you been?” Peyton asked. You shrugged.
“It’s been a rollercoaster for sure,” you said, swirling your glass. Peyton nodded.
“But how about you?” you ask. You had no right to be feeling the way Peyton felt. That’s what you told yourself at least.
“I can’t bring myself to even sit in the living room sometimes,” she says looking down at her glass. You nodded; Carter used to always sleep on the couch when she’d stay the night, claiming it was comfier than Peyton’s bed.
“I’m sure the guys have been there for you?” Peyton asked before sipping her wine. You smiled.
“Yeah, they’ve been nothing but amazing. One night I had been up for almost 72 hours cause I couldn’t sleep and I was studying, but the guys got me to participate in our weekly Friday night movie marathon night, and I ended up getting a decent amount of sleep.” Peyton smiled at that.
“It’s nice having friends like that,” she said genuinely; she was a little concerned though. She could sense you were distracting yourself more than just feeling the emotions. The thought of your boys made your heart sing.
“They’re the best…,” you said before taking a swig of your wine as Peyton watched.
“Damn down the hatch,” she says with a wet chuckle.
You spent the rest of the night with your friend, sharing your favorite memories of Carter. It was a way to remember her, especially the stories you wouldn't dare tell at the funeral. The day of the funeral came around too quickly. You woke up feeling heavy-hearted, wrapped in Chris's hoodie, holding a plush toy close to your chest. It took all your strength to get out of bed and ready for the funeral. You couldn't believe you were preparing to say goodbye to your best friend.
You tried to remain composed for the sake of Carter's family. The funeral went by in a blur, and you were grateful there was no open casket. It helped you stay strong for everyone, but you couldn't help denying the fact that Carter was in that casket, about to be buried six feet under. You tried to push the thought out of your mind, but it kept coming back.
You let your friends know you needed to study at your apartment for a few days, but you'd be back soon. They understood and said you were always welcome to come back. When it was time for you to leave, you said goodbye to Peyton and sent a text to your friends to let them know you were heading home. You knew you couldn't stay in the States any longer without it feeling too real.
It's The Spamming For Me
Me: I’m heading home
Father of 7: have a safe flight y/n!
Twin: see you soon!
Disney Prince: xoxoxo!
BBG: Minho and I wish you safe travels!
Angel Baby: YAY! Get back safely, I need my cuddle buddy!
Minnie Mouse: Have a safe flight! Jeongin says hurry back and save him from Minho
The second you stepped foot in your place, it didn’t feel right. You pulled out your phone and dialed the first name in your contacts list.
While he was in the shower, Chris’s phone started ringing.
“Hannie, can you grab that for me please?” Chris called out. Han grabbed the phone and checked who it was before answering.
“Chris’s phone, his favorite child speaking,” Han joked, pretty proud of himself.
“Yah!” Chris scolded but with a big smile plastered on his face. You snorted.
“Felix?” You said biting your lip trying not to laugh. Han’s eyes went huge.
“YAH!” He yelled even louder. Chris laughed as he did his best not to get water in his eyes from leaning so far back. You shook your head.
“Can I come over? I was going to study at my place but I need a change of scenery,” you say playing with your shirt.
“You don’t have to ask y/n, you're always welcome,” Han said sincerely. You smiled at that.
“Okay, I’ll see you guys soon then!” You said enthusiastically.
“See you soon!” He said before hanging up. He set the phone down and looked at Chris.
“Y/n is coming over so get unnaked,” he said jokingly before going to open the door. Chris laughed.
“She lives 10 min from us. I think I have time!” Chris shouted back with a big smile on his face. You kept your composure when you walked in, despite the lump in your throat upon opening their door. All of the boys greeted and chatted with you briefly before you retreated to your room. Instead of unpacking and relaxing, you decided to work on your computer. Despite not getting any sleep on the flight, you felt that you should be productive. It was around 9 pm, and although you were exhausted, you didn't want to think about the funeral. While reading case studies, you came across one that deeply affected you. It made your heartache. This particular case study caused one of the subjects to take their own life because of the trauma they went through. Once you were about to finish writing a sentence, you got a call from Carter’s sister.
“Hey Peyton,” you say as you continue typing. You heard sniffling on the other line.
“Pey? Shit did I forget to let you know I made it back??” You ask. You heard her take a shaky exhale before speaking.
“No no, you did…um…I don’t know how to say this so I’m just going to say it. Y/n…Carter’s death wasn’t an accident,” she choked out. Your eyes went huge.
“What do you mean?” You ask frantically. You were hoping with every fiber of your being it wasn’t what you thought it was.
“I was sitting in her room and I…I found a letter…” and your heart stopped.

There's a worker there when Pac wakes up - it's the first worker anyone has seen since returning to the island. They're in Ramon's nook, doing something with his IV and taking notes in a book.
Pac immediately grabs Fit; the man is awake in seconds.
"Pac?" he asks, more awake in moments than Pac could ever be.
Pac puts a finger to his lips, then points at Ramon's nook.
Fit looks over, and Pac sees when he notices; immediately Fit is on his feet, storming over.
"Oi," he calls. "What are you doing with my son?!"
The worker hesitates a moment, finishing what they are doing before grabbing another book, and stepping down. It takes them a moment to write, Fit quivering with tension while Pac's hands wrap themselves in knotts.
The book is passed to Fit, who holds it where Pac can see.
'I am WA008,' it reads. 'I have been transferred from the Federation Infirmary to tend the EGGS.'
"You're a, er, doctor?" Pac asks, squinting at them - they look like every other worker on the island, bar the blue surgical mask they are wearing.
They nod.
"How are they?" Fit's attitude does not quite entirely flip, but he's bitten down the the edge. "When will they wake up?"
Scribbling again, this time for much longer - Pac can see WA008 flip to multiple book pages.
'All six EGGS here are in critical condition. The EGG named Dapper's condition is less serious, so is resting elsewhere. All seven eggs are responding well to treatment. Their injuries are complex, and further complicated by radiation sickness for these six. I do not know how long healing will take. They are not yet stable enough to survive infection, please refrain from breaking past the barriers. They are for the safety of the EGGS. Only myself, WB011 and WB022 are permitted here, and only if clean. They are my assistants and are also caring for the EGGS.'
Pac clings to Fit's arm as he reads, Fit reaching up to squeeze his hand as he frowns at the words.
"They will be okay though, right?" Pac glances around the children. "Richas? Leo? Tallulah?"
WA008 nods.
"What injuries do they have?" Fit's voice remains harsh, but he has clearly backed off even further with the news. "You must have more information."
WA008 pulls out the book they were writing in earlier, quickly adding a line, and then having it over. Fit tucks the other book into his bag before reading it.
Inside are more complete medical records for the eggs; Pac cannot translate all of the medical terminology, but he understands the numbers well enough. Assuming they are accurate, it seems WA008 is speaking true; their conditions are improving, and Dapper's - on the first page, arriving soonest - are better, and their immune systems are in shambles. Fit glances at him; Pac nods, and rests his head on Fit's shoulder.
At the end of the records book is a request to give it back. Pac sees Fit quickly photograph each page before it is returned.
WA008 waits for a moment, before nodding to them both, and letting themself into Chayanne's nook instead.
"They were telling the truth?" Fit quietly whispers.
Pac nods, "my English is not good enough but... The numbers are right."
Fit shudders, then nods. His eyes are closed for a long moment; when he opens them again, he gently removes Pac's hand from his arm.
"Hey Doc!" Fit calls.
WA008 turns to look at him, summoning another book.
"You should probably give Bad a check over. He's not doing too good."
"Maybe all of us need a doctor," Pac adds. "Purgatory was bad."
Unlike every other time, WA008 hesitates. When the book comes this time, their body language reads almost apologetic.
'I do not have time.' this one reads. 'The other medical staff are sick, or working on quarantine wards. I must give my time to the EGGS. If you are still conscious, I do not have time to treat you. Emergencies and EGGS only.'
"Bad is... Kinda an emergency. He's bleeding everywhere and has big head trauma."
WA008 visibly winces, gesturing for the book back. To the end they add, 'I'll ask WB011 to check in when he visits Dapper. It is unlikely we will be able to provide proper treatment at this time, but he can ensure Resident BadBoyHalo is not going to die. Head injuries require more resources to fully treat than we have available.'
"That's kinda shit, then," Fit replies.
WA008 seems visibly distressed, but nods in agreement.
"Three workers for seven critically ill eggs is not enough," Pac quietly tells Fit. "As it is they won't be getting to sleep properly."
Neither of them like that knowledge at all, but it's true.
"And what is it going to cost us?" Fit asks.
'I am not being paid for this. If someone tries to charge you, stab them and I will introduce them to my needles *-*'
"You're sure?" Pac asks. "Medicine costs a lot if you have to buy it..."
':) says it is so you enjoy the island, and all workers serve the island. I want to make people better.'
:) is... Cucurucho. Pac supposes that makes sense; however much he doesn't want Richas in Federation hands, he knows they don't have the expertise to help his son.
Or any of the eggs, for that matter.
"Alright. I'll believe you for now," Fit takes a deep breath, then waves towards the Federation Doctor. "Good luck out there, fellow worker."
WA008 perks up a little, but the wave they give Fit as they hop back into Chayanne's nook is definitely stressed. With a tug, Fit leads Pac back towards the beds where the collection of parents have been staying.
"They're that bad but there isn't a doctor always here?" he frowns.
Pac shrugs, "probably have warp plates and monitors. If Mike had to treat seven people, I'd do it so he could sleep. It's not good but... It's better than a sleep deprived doctor missing things."
"Mike's a doctor?"
"No," Pac shakes his head a bit. "But... We didn't always have access to one, so he learnt."
'Never had access to one' would be more accurate, but Pac doesn't say it. Fit, at least, seems to understand; he just nods.
"Yeah," Fit says. "A lot of guys like that in the wasteland. It's a useful skill if you need to trade something."
Pac isn't sure what to say to that, or to the distant look on Fit's face. So he just hums, and leans against him once again.
Fit's arm comes up, and nervously tucks him closer. Pac snuggles in.
"They'll be okay?" Fit says it like he means it to be a reassurance, but instead it sounds like a question.
"They'll be okay," Pac repeats back, a little more certain.
Together they watch WA008 tend to their children, taking readings and changing dressings and IV bags. Pac doesn't see them do anything wrong, or especially dangerous, and so he allows himself to relax. They seem calm, too, or as calm as they were after the interruption at least. It's unlikely there are new complications then - with radiation and long-open wounds in play, its always possible.
"We should get gifts for them," Pac says. "For when they wake up."
"That'd be nice," Fit's calmer now, too, drifting a bit. "We can get started in the morning."
Pac nods, and slips down to lie on the bed. After a few moments of looking at the pillow, he places his head in Fit's lap instead.
There's a startled noise, and Pac hides his smile.
"Good night, Richas," he calls to his unconscious son, before turning his head and whispering. "Good night, roommate."
Fit puts a hand on his shoulder, body and voice both stuttering a little, "yeah, um, g'night roommate. Sleep well."

tomorrow is my first day back to work and I'm a lil nervous
I haven't been able to get anything written for here bc I've been trying to get a couple other things written (updating my Bill Cipher redemption fic and starting a Gyutaro x reader x Daki because I make poor life choices)
but I'm on light duty for a month, basically just sitting at the register checking people out, unable to do any stocking or anything bc I'm not allowed to lift anything over 15 pounds so I can't lift totes, bend much, or reach much, so I'm allowed to bring something to do in between customers... maybe I'll get some writing done? I feel as if I'll be slacking off bc that's how my brain works
but you know what, I kill myself for that store normally, I don't work full time simply because I can't afford medical insurance if I did, but even working only part time I give my all while I'm there, I'm not someone who slacks off. so if I'm healthfully and approvedly permitted to slack off and take it easy for a month, I guess I'll take it (... plus, I mean, I'll still be working, just light duty, it's not like I'll show up and get paid to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, I'm still gonna be ringing out customers)
ANYWAY MY POINT IS-
get those last requests in! after I get home from work tomorrow, I'll be closing the askbox and won't open it back up till this batch is finished and I swear I mean that this time 😂
